| | J.K. Rowling's Pottermore beta testing invitation emails sent out beginning today
The Pottermore Insider blog has revealed that the Beta testing for J.K. Rowling's interactive site has begun. Emails are beginning to be sent out to those first million who successfully signed in through the Magical Quill challenge. More on that is below. We’re excited to announce that early access to Pottermore has begun, so if you’re one of the million people who found The Magical Quill and registered for early access, please read the rest of this Insider post carefully.
The most important thing to know is that we need to stagger entry to the ‘Beta’ (early) version of Pottermore so we can properly collect all the feedback. To begin with, we’ll be inviting a very small number of people onto the website, so you may not receive your Welcome email straight away.
We’ll be sending those Welcome emails out over the coming weeks and, once yours arrives, you’ll be able to log in and start helping us develop the Pottermore experience.
As Pottermore Beta users, you’ll be exploring all the different elements of the site and, hopefully, sharing your thoughts with us along the way. How? By using the ‘Beta feedback’ button. You’ll find it located at the bottom right-hand corner of every page on the site, and this is what it looks like.
It’s important for us to know what you enjoy about the site, what you would like to see improved, and that you tell us about any parts you think aren’t working smoothly.
As well as the ‘Beta feedback’ button on the site itself, we’ll also send each Beta user a survey to complete, asking some detailed questions about the Pottermore website.
All this information will be collated and analysed to help make Pottermore as enjoyable, interesting and easy-to-use as possible. A note on registering for October
Very soon, we’ll be opening Pottermore registration for October. This means:
- If you have submitted your email address to be notified when registration is open to all, then you’ll be hearing from us soon, and you'll be able to register for entry in October.
- If you asked to be notified when registration was open to all but also registered for Beta, then you may receive two emails from us. You do not have to register for October if you already have a validated early access (Beta) account. In other words, if you received a Beta ‘Congratulations!’ message then you can ignore the ‘Pottermore registration is now open’ email (although do feel free to forward it to your friends!).
We’ll be updating the Insider with all the latest Pottermore news and information, so please continue to visit the blog.
See you soon!
Let us know if you have received your email! |

It's just completely random I think... because the only way I would have thought they could put an order to the way they let us in is by 'first come first served' and that's not how they are doing it. Ok, it was just an idea.
Yes, that would be fair. |

Oh, I've thought about all the ways they could be sending them out too
I thought age/name/timezone/language etc. but I think maybe they just scrambled us?
Ahh *hopes I get it tomorrow*

So why did they even bother coming up with 7 clues? I mean, they're not letting people who solved the hardest clue in first, so why haven't they just given us the stupid DH clue and treat everybody equally? Why announce this 'first come - first served' bull, if it's not true?
Had to get it out of my system I guess I'm just upset, because I want this email so much.

Finally got mine! I was freaking out when I saw it, I couldn't believe it.
Sadly, the website is down for maintenance right now, so I am gonna have to do a little more waiting until I can play. |

I'd say just be happy you get to get in earlier than everyone else. Sure, the way they did it made it seem that it was a first-come first-serve basis, and that the clues got a little harder, but that's not how they are doing it and they aren't going to change it. If you stop checking your e-mail every 5 minutes and wait a couple of hours, it won't be so bad and agonizing. And just like a few people that already said, I think it's fair that they are doing it randomly. It was anyone's decision to stay up late/wake up early, you didn't to actually have to do it.

I actually do think it's fair to make it random. It means that younger children aren't forced to get in last just because they couldn't stay up all night or were unable to answer the first few questions. It makes it fair across the age and time-zone board.
From what I've read and seen, the Pottermore people are doing a cross-section of ages, countries, time-zones, etc. That's in their best interest and actually makes the most sense, so that they can ensure all parts of the site, for all ages and languages, work properly.
That being said, I would LOVE to get my email soon. |

In the end this is BETA. Not for everyone.
We waited all day on Day 1.
But no one knew when the "window" registration will be open.
First come first served.
Children can wait until October.

I don't think it's anything to do with age...I'm sure some younger kids got in on the first few days, and I KNOW that older fans got in on later days.
I DO think it's totally fair that they are doing it random...even though in order would benefit me (I got in on the first few minutes of day 3). But I see people (not nec. HERE) who have said it's only fair to do it in order because the day one people stayed up late to get in on day one. But they're forgetting that there are people who stayed up late and DIDN'T get in on day one... did it again on day 2...and so on and so on, and I know some people who did that and didn't get in until day 7. It almost seems that it would be more fair to do it in reverse order, since those who got in on the first day could just sit back while everyone else continued to try to get in.
So really, random just makes sense.
Still...I hope I get my e-mail soon!
Erin

I think a lot of these posts saying that "It's not fair", "first-come, first-serve" and "we stayed up all night" show how immature some people are. Again I say to those, be happy you registered early and get to see it before everyone in October. You didn't have to stay up all night and you didn't have to register on day 1.

Oh, and good point you made earlier...some people have to work and COULDN'T try to get in on some of the days (dependent on work schedule).
Really...random is the most fair way to do it.

The randomly is only fair for the people, who found the quill around the third day or later, cuz if fans would be allowed in the site in sign in order they would be let in later and about the children's chances: what do you think what chance would a nine years old kid has in my country? most of the people doesn't even know where hungary is and a kid here can't speak english as well as anywhere else,
and some people woke up at midnight or didn't sleep at all cuz we didn't know when the site will be updated and than clue, in the later days people were told that from an hour to an hour the clue will be up and the first three questions were the hardests, and sorry for my grammar mistakes!
So everyone can decide if it's fair or not.

Still waiting for mine too. From what I can see they must be doing this randomly which to me, I think, kind of defeats the purpose of when we had finished the challenge. According to what the Pottermore site said it was first come-first served. So unless they changed that rule, those that got the challenge the first day should be the first to get the emails and then the 2nd and so on. Oh well, I'll guess we'll have to continue to be patient and while we are waiting, enjoy our time here on SS.

I think it's great that they're doing it randomly. That helps to level out the fact that the Quill registration wasn't random for time zones.

So sad. Haha that's me! My inbox keeps saying "Woohoo! No unread mai!" And I'm all like -flail- I WANT unread mail. Not woohoo.
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm resisting looking at all these images until I can get on myself. Although knowing my luck I'll be one of the last few |

How am I supposed to start college and pay attention if I can't stop looking at my inbox, hoping for an email from Pottermore??? And when I finally do get into the beta site, how am I going to find time to actually do my school work? I'm going to fail out of college for paying more attention to Hogwarts! irony?? YES

I think the First come First serve was only in relation to the clues. Because the people who found the clues first got the letters, and those who found them later missed out because it was full. And they said - not everyone who is able to find the magical quill is guaranteed.
I don't think the Pottermore people care if it's fair or not, because they only need us to make sure everything is okay and as people have been saying, there's a LOT of diversity amongst the fans. I guess they need older people and younger people to check the games etc. are easily done, and not too hard. And languages need to be fine-tuned, and all that jazz.
I'm a bit bummed about it being random, only because we were all under the impression it was done on day registered. But hey, I still have SS and my books

That happened to me once... I haven't tried again, I know I'm still not in! But I think that's probably just one of the site things they need to check for, so don't worry!!
