The Scotsman claims that J.K.Rowling is threatening to take legal action against a man from Missouri for his online James Potter story. The computer animator, author of the sequel James Potter and the Hall of Elders' Crossing, tells his tale of Harry's son's first term at Hogwarts - the work is referred to as the "eighth" Harry Potter book. Trailers, using "Harry-Potter style theme music, thunder and lightning sound effects and icons" have appeared on his website to promote the fanfiction. His intention is to release a chapter a day in December, for free. So far he has attracted more than 40,000 visitors.

UPDATE: It is now being reported that the author has been given the okay to go ahead with his project.

She's becoming WAY too litigous all of the sudden. Fanfiction has been a tradition of fandom for as long as I've been alive. PLEASE tell me I'm not the only person who thinks she's sort of getting a little high and mighty. Yes she delivered the baby, but it's the fans around the world who have paid for its' upkeep....if anyone gets what I mean when I say that.
Update to update-Phew, so she reportedly gave the go ahead. But reading the initial news feature as I did, there was no NEED for a go ahead. This is just like Spike Lee suing the tv channel Spike TV because he automatically assumed that people would think the word "spike" means him. So....can we still name our children James or Harry? What if I have a son and want to name him Albus Severus, or name my girl Hermione Jean? Is that allowed or would I have to go thru lawyers?

Seriously.If he does not sell it,why sue?
Then,that makes all FF writing ,like,criminal.
If this continues,we'll all have to stop reading/writing FF's.Which is so sad.I mean,we are just keeping the HP spirit alive by this FF's,aren't we?
