J.K.Rowling talks family, depression & fame Showbiz Spy has some moving quotes from the recent documentary J.K.Rowling...A Year in the Life, in which Jo speaks about her family life, the depression she suffered following her mother's death & the breakdown of her first marriage and the things fame has brought. I can sure relate to what Rowling went through! I lost my mom two years ago and my dad seven weeks and one day later. I have been undergoing treatment for depression for a little over a month now. I divorced my husband decades ago after a marraige that lasted a little over three years and struggled as a single mom to raise my two daughters. Now here I am writing my first book! I hope to have it finished in a month or so now that I am settled. |
I almost envy those who have a reason to be depressed. I don't know what's harder... suffering losses and becoming depressed, or being depressed regardless of circumstances. Battles with depression, regardless of "reason," are always difficult and never fun, though. It's been 12 long years of depression, and having to piece my life together through it. But I have to say, anyone who has faced depression and managed to muddle through it is incredibly strong. I know I still doubt myself, and fight to keep going, even with a successful marriage (okay, only two years), 2 incredible children, and the encouragement from friends and family to go back to school and write my first book. |
am amazed how open jkr is abt her life, her speech and thoughts r so natural and unforced.emma's right-jkr is honest and straightforward and one of the most umpretentious folks ard..when i c her doc and d clips,it made me think tht too..great doc. :harry3: :hermy: |
wow i am amazed. |
Woah, I never realised Jo had been through so much. I just hope I never experience depression. |
oh god, i have said it before, joes story is always sad to hear! I'm happy her life is alot better now. |
Yeah, Jo's story is a sad one but since her creation of Harry Potter her life has become a lot better as well as many other peoples lifes which were touched by Harry.:sunny: ^_^ |
The way she described depression is very accurate. You feel like a total failure in life, and it will never get better. You have no hope for a better future. I respect her for pulling out of it. |
I think that it is a bit "car crash" hearing Jo talk about her life like that. Kind of uncomfortable, but you can't help but watch. Unfortunately, bad things happen and it's great that not only did she become so great in spite of those bad things, but she's great because of them. She didn't let it overcome her (which is so easy to do), but she took it and turned it in to something productive. It's one of those things that you look at someone's life and see all the glory and good things. It was nice to watch the documentary and see that even though she gets the good and the bad, she's still grounded. She isn't embarrassed by her wealth neither does she flaunt it. A good role model all round, I think. |
J.K. ur so good 4 sharin a story like that. U must of been very depressed. But don't worry that didn't affect any of ur books. |
I swear that if I came across that first husband of hers I don't know what I'd do <_< Not that I'd be able to actually recognize him, I believe, but still :P |
Well Jo I feel very awful knowing that and i am glad you became famous because your books changed my life,I love them.I am so happy that you know have a better life and I am glad that you are so opened,so...truthful.It means a lot to me. |
Jo, I'm sorry for your loss. Trust me, I know how it feels to loss someone very close to you. I love your books, writing is your passion. |
i feel her pain....i too lost someone very close to me |
Yeah, death was some sort of motif in the books...though no one died in PoA! but still...there were deaths in all the other books... |
Jo is such a strong woman.. To have gone through all of that , to be the great writer she is today.. God bless you Jo |
Well....I'm sure that most of use knew that death was kinda the main motif of the books....... |
Whoa! Very nice interview. I can't completely understand what she has been through in her life, simply because it hasn't happened to me. Jo is a strong woman and a great inspiration to all. |
Very nice interview! She's an extraordinary woman and much of her past can be seen in her writing. |
great interview! |
wow, that really gives an insight to the Harry Potter books that I had never understood before... |
I really love this documentary. Jo's life is really interesting, sad, exciting, happy... and just normal... I love it... And she seems so be a really nice person :) |
That is some crazy stuff! She did a wonderful job of putting her pain into books though. I felt so much pain for Harry and Dumbledore and the Weasleys |
amazing!! |
