Hours after revealing the history of North America's Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and its four Houses, author J.K. Rowling announced her own Ilvermorny House. Remember that the author was sorted into Gryffindor at Hogwarts through Pottermore.

The idea of naming the houses after themselves, as the founders, was swiftly abandoned, because Webster felt a house called ‘Webster Boot’ had no chance of ever winning anything, and instead, each chose their favourite magical beast.
For Chadwick, an intelligent but often temperamental boy, it was the Thunderbird that can create storms as it flies. For argumentative but fiercely loyal Webster, it was the Wampus, a magical panther-like creature that was fast, strong and almost impossible to kill. For Isolt, it was, of course, the Horned Serpent that she still visited and with which she felt a strange sense of kinship.

Though then again, it says they favor scholars which means it's kind of Ravenclaw-ish?? How strange cause I've always thought of that as my least house... But I am into the sciences and you need to be scholarly for that

But I am into the sciences and you need to be scholarly for that If we're equating Ilvermorny and Hogwarts Houses, they might pair up like this (or at least in my mind they do): - Horned Serpent (mind, favours scholars) = Ravenclaw (wisdom, wit, individuality, etc.)
- Wampus (body, favours warriors) = Slytherin (ambition, resourcefulness, cunning, etc.)
- Pukwudgie (heart, favours healers) = Hufflepuff (loyalty, kindness, patience, etc.)
- Thunderbird (soul, favours adventurers) = Gryffindor (bravery, nerve, chivalry, etc.)
Obviously the Houses between the schools are not exactly the same and the correlation isn't absolute (one could totally argue that Wampus fits Gryffindor better and Thunderbird, Slytherin). After all, Hogwarts seems to go more by personality traits, whereas Ilvermorny goes by something deeper, more inward. It's still pretty cool, though, how the Houses share those similarities yet are so very different from each other.

Awesome, I got sorted into Thunderbird as well. I think Zoe touched upon it well on the correlation between the two school's houses, since it all goes down to the reasoning.
The mention of 'soul' for example could also translate into Hufflepuff for internal feelings and good self-fulfillment (loosely for Slytherin too). With 'seeking new adventures' not only for Gryffindor but Ravenclaw with the quest for new knowledge through experience.
