Rumors are up again that Warner Bros. has pursued Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson to reprise their iconic roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermione in a film trilogy adaptation of
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which, if made, wouldn't see theatrical release until 2026 at the earliest.
However, J.K. Rowling already pounced on the rumors, saying that, for now, there are no rumors to bring the
Cursed Child to the bring screen.
Jim Hill of the
Unofficial Universal Orlando Podcast noted that he knew insiders at both Warner Bros. and Universal Parks & Resorts, and that Warner Bros. wants to create three movies for
Cursed Child, with much older version of Dan, Rupert, and Emma, akin to the recent release of Star Wars: The Force Awakes. For those interested, despite what Rowling already said, go ahead and read below.
Quote:
“I have heard that Warner Bros. has actually had conversations with [Emma Watson], with Rupert [Grint], and, of course, Daniel [Radcliffe] about Cursed Child, because they want this to be, for lack of a better term, Harry Potter: The Force Awakens.”
“They want this trilogy of movies to have the actors that we know and love from the original films, that we watched grow up, as adults.
“And, of course, they’re hiring a bunch of new, younger actors to play their children with the hope that, if we can lean on J.K. [Rowling], maybe there’ll be The Cursed Adolescent.”
The 2026 release would tie in with previous reports that Warner Bros. will bring the
Cursed Child to screen after the completion of the five
Fantastic Beasts movies, which will hit theaters every even year, for now, until 2024.
It was reported back in August that Daniel Radcliffe allegedly heard from Warner Bros. about playing Harry Potter as an adult again (Dan would actually be around 37 years old by then, Harry's age in the epilogue), and that the production company would pay an incredible amount of money to have him return.
Again, all of this is rumors and this is many years away. For now, very lucky fans can see
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the West End for now, and on Broadway sometime next year.
