| | Harry Potter tops American, British, French & German lists
Internet retailer Amazon recently conducted a survey to determine national stereotypes. What they found was that Harry Potter topped four out of the five lists, showing that the series 'surpassed all national, cultural and social boundaries'. Deathly Hallows, the latest and final story, topped the American, British, French and German lists, with the seventh Harry Potter ranking at #3 in Japan. Quote:
A survey of global reading habits has revealed that we all adapt our national stereotypes, with the French opting for morose highbrow tomes, the Americans for self help guides, the British for trivia and books by celebrities, the Germans for holidays and the Japanese for more eclectic tastes.
But the survey also revealed that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was voted the number one read across UK, US, France and Germany, barring Japan, wherein it was placed at number three behind two health and beauty titles, Yukuko Tanaka's Face Massage and Inspiring Exercise.
Quote:
Amazon has compiled the bestselling books list from sales on its global sites. Kes Nielsen, head of book buying, estimated that three-quarters of those on the list had been boosted into their positions by people buying for Christmas, which may shed light on why novels do not make a more prominent appearance on the UK version.
He said: "People don't tend to buy fiction as a present as it is a very personal thing."

We spent time here. We made friends here. That's a part of us.
Cause Hogwarts is bigger than any of us, of any of it's founders,
and it's going to be around long after we're gone.
Maybe we'll see our kids come here one day.
That's the thing about Hogwarts.
No matter how long you're away from it, there's always a way back. |

Fiction is indeed very personal ... that's why I only write it for people I love.
But ... this means that Harry Potter equals globalization, and globalization is the death of the individual and all creative thought ... so wouldn't that make HP bad?
OMG!
It's so bad but it feels so good ... *dies but reads the books again anyway*
