| | Harry Potter on most & least loved reads lists The National Year of Reading campaign and networking site Piczo ran a survey entitled Read Up, Fed Up which involved 1,340 children aged 11 to 14. Harry Potter featured on both the most and least loved reads lists. Quote:
Honor Wilson-Fletcher, director of the National Year of Reading insisted: "We should all appreciate that many young people are reading creatively - widely yet selectively.
"Teens are challenging our traditional definitions of reading as being all about books but reading enthusiastically nonetheless."
Quote:
Putting the best face on the findings, Schools Minister Jim Knight added: "It is vital that young people have the opportunity to read widely.
"It is wonderful that 80 per cent of the teenagers surveyed write their own stories and keep up-to-date with current affairs by using sites like BBC Online."

Whaaaaat?! How could anyone dislike reading encyclopedias? Quote:
lol most on that list don't even count as books.
The list is about things that people read, how "teenagers have redefined reading". lol I quite like reading the sides/backs of cereal boxes and shampoo bottles.

That's just stupid... How can it be on the most loved and the most hated list at the same time???
Saying that the way things are it's not surprizing... People would rather read 'Heat' about a bunch of d-list celebs than something like Romeo + Juliet or any of the Shakespeare works... Insanity!!!
Oh yeah... looking at the least liked list it looks like all of these kids just dont want to read anything that will help them learn...

Homework! Haha, I agree xD
Huh, I guess it's a misteke, that they put it on the 'least' and 'most' loved...
It HAS to be a mistake! :o

Okay, so I guess either they polled bi-polar kids or HP freaks and anti-HP kids; probably the second.

If you look at the article, it's pretty clear the that kids they're interviewed were teenagers in the UK, and that the whole point of the article is that people chose things to love and hate about reading that weren't typically considered reading materials.
Plus, I know some people who like HP but when it comes to "Fed Up" (again, name of the article), they're sick of all the hype about HP. Not everyone is a die-hard HP fan, and I'm sure that while they like the books, or tolerate the books, they're sick of hearing about them. I'm pretty sick of hearing about some fandoms that I don't LOVE and I wish they'd just keep themselves to themselves .
But really, I don't think anyone is bad, intolerant, or stupid for preferring something over HP. That's why we're all so interesting. It would be nice to be tolerant ourselves of those who don't like HP... or we're falling into our own stereotype.
