| | Harry Potter is "a hard act to follow" In a recent survery conducted by Waterstone's book chain, nearly one fifth of Harry Potter fans admitted that they will skip to the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows before reading the first 608 pages. In fact, that makes seventeen percent in the 500-children poll.
However, a third of them admitted that they will be willing to say up all night to finish it - chances are, girls will read it faster than boys in as little as 30 hours. Nine out of ten children believed that it will be more difficult and upsetting to say goodbye to Harry than Tony Blair, the Prime Minister.
Wayne Winstone, the Waterstone's spokesman, was quoted saying: Quote:
"There's no doubt that Harry will be missed, he's a hard act to follow."

I won't be staying up all night. I'll be staying up all week! (Slow reader here!) But I will definitely not be skipping to the end (unless I get untra-tempted or something)

I'm defo going to stay up all night to read the book. I already warned my mother lol
As for the part of reading the end... erm.. let's just say that I usually read the last sentence or paragraph of a book? XD I told myself I'd do that with HBP but with the excitement I only remembered of doing that once I was halfway through the book so It kind of makes me want to reach the end of the book even more to understand what it meant.

Why do people want to skip to the end??
Serioulsy when you do that you dont understand why a certain character ended up like they did or something like that....plus it wont be that exciting when youre reading the rest of the story!!
Personally im going to stay up all night to finish the book!!

Fifth Year | I never start at the end of a book, so I won't be doing it this time. I will also be staying up as long as I can to finish the book. It'll probably take me a couple of days though. I'm really going to miss not having a new Harry Potter book to read.

I always read the last sentence of every book I read first.... But thats it. If Its 2 words long then thats what I read... I dont know why... I just started doing it... Its not like reading the whole end first though... Because that would ruin the surprise.. Im staying up for the whole night and what not! I will definatly have a harder time saying good bye to Harry than Tony Blair seeing as how I wont miss Tony Blair at all and the faster hes out the better Lol |

I'd never EVER skip to the end. My mom reads books backwards, for some reason... she knows what happens at the end before she knows how they got there!!! I never understood that, and yes, i will be one staying up all night to finish it.

| Talk about spoiling the entire book. NO true fan would skip to the end!
Just read through an entire day and night if you're really into it. I probably will lock myself in my room all day and read... if I can My parents'll probably be all 'get outside!'.
I'll go outside... I'll go to the nearby elementary school park, sit down on a swing or something, and read
But seriously, no true fan would spoil their reading by skipping to the end...
I can't believe it's the last book tho... (my mom thinks J.K will probably do another book but I don't believe that). Seriously, it all seems... wow! Scary cause I don't even remember when OotP (book) came out anymore. I just started cause I saw it on my brother's shelf and was very intruiged (before the movie was known to come out) - I got stuck at the Sorting Hat cause my imagination kinda couldn't grasp it.
After I saw the movie I finished the book and was able to continue. He had the first three books, and when I was on book 2 my grandma bought me book 4 so i skipped to that... was confuzzled and put it down. By the time I got to it, the PoA movie was out
Great books... I can't believe the era is about to end... all in less than a week now

Usually, I read the very last sentence, so I'll want to keep reading, but this time...not so sure. I don't see how they can skip it all, tho. Like (approaching partial spoiler...) Like when Dumby died, my friend and I were s'posed to be reading at the same time, but she skipped ahead and read something like 'and Dumbledore was dead.' When you skip ahead you don't get the essence of the good and important parts...it takes away from the flavor of the book.

OK, I don't understand...
How in living daylights can you read the ending and still live through the suspense and intrigue of the book!?
That's part of the magnificence of the HP series, the just-revealed-in-the-nick-of-time suspensefulness in the writing. No blurting out of information, no ridiculous overdramatisation, nothing unnecessary. Just good (well truly superb, really) edge-of-your-chair suspense.
I've already told my other-half that he'll have to set aside next Saturday morning so he can come with me to the shopping centre (about half an hour's drive) so I can buy the book and read it on the drive home (He'll have to drive home so I can READ!). He said "Um are you going to be reading that book ALL WEEKEND???" I said "No, Dear. Just until it's finished". :evillaugh
Then I'll start at the beginning again.
I usually read the whole book through in one sitting (only really desperate loo and cuppa-tea breaks, food optional) then start at the beginning again and read it more slowly. Luckily my son is at his father's that weekend, so I get the WHOLE weekend with the book before he steals it!
Oh, and, by the way, Pigwidgeon Took: Quote:
