Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone rare copy at Oxford library for public view

The first edition copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone annotated by J.K. Rowling that was sold on auction via Sotheby's to benefit charity last month will indeed be available for viewing by the public in a local Oxford library, reported the Oxford Mail. The book, which contains over 20 new hand-drawn images by the Harry Potter author and over 1000 words of text, will be available for viewing at the Bodleian Library found in the University of Oxford in the U.K. from now until June 10.

The book will be featured in the Magical Books - From the Middle Ages to Middle-earth exhibition running through the end of October, but the Harry Potter book will only be available for public viewing for the next few days.

Quote:

The book has been lent to the library by the anonymous phone bidder who bought it, and has been delighting schoolchildren from Oxfordshire on half-term holiday all week.

Dr Judith Priestman, the exhibition’s co-curator, said: “It is enormously popular I can tell you that – it is so noisy in here at the moment, you can hear the excitement.

“I’ve just seen a group of young boys holding each other’s arms jumping up and down. “JK Rowling has written on it and done 22 of her own illustrations. They are her reflections, so they are really interesting.

“We are really lucky to have them here.”
