Oscar nominee Gary Oldman presented the Motion Picture Showmanship Award to David Heyman, producer of the Warner Bros. Harry Potter franchise. "This year, we honor the producer of the most successful film franchise of all time," he said. "We're delighted to recognize the person responsible for a collection of films that represents the best example of what can be accomplished with creative and smart publicity and promotion."

Congrats to David Heyman!

much deserved!! ^_^ although honestly i think the Academy should give a special award to Heyman as well, or something to honor the impact of what the Harry Potter films have done for the arts.

Steeley, I couldn't agree more. I feel that it is shameful of the Academy to not honor the Harry Potter series and the actors and many people who worked on the largest movie franchise of all time with at least more nominations than what they were given, while movies like Hugo were nominated for best picture....

Congrats to David Heyman! :woot:

I agree with everyone about HP. There have been so many people who have worked on Potter for a decade, and they deserve more credit than anyone else.

The Academy's Irving G. Thalberg Award for Excellence in Producing would be perfect for Heyman: Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If Albert R. Broccoli can receive it for James Bond, and George Lucas can receive it for Star Wars, and Walt Disney can receive it for his empire, despite no Best Picture awards for any of them, then there's no reason David Heyman shouldn't be honored for his work on Harry Potter.

Oh people, it saddens me to tell you all this but for David Heyman, it is not going to happen anytime soon. They were lucky that they were recognized as a successful franchise. I am a huge HP fan but I have to say it again, it is hard to convince me that the movie was good enough to be recognized by the Academy.
FYI ---HUGO, touches on a subject close to the Academy's heart George Meilies. The man who gave us THE TRIP TO THE MOON. --- The Academy is very fickle.
I find it funny that most are offended by the U.S. not recognizing the movie when the Golden Globes and even their own country, the BAFTA awards did not nominate HP and recognize their own. Cant blame one award show when the rest of them turned their noses at HP DH2.

Congratulations David!! :D

Oww I'm bummed Gary Oldman didn't win the Oscar :( he deserves 10 Oscars!!

Hermionespell 02-27-2012 02:39 PM

That's fantastic!

oh its Erik ok 02-27-2012 03:58 PM

too bad he did not win the Oscar last night for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Slytherin's Talon 02-27-2012 11:18 PM

It's too bad they couldn;t win: The Acadamy Awards are DYING. Everyone knows it. In 2009 they didn't acknowledge The Dark Knight, enraging many. Then they made the biggest movie in history(Avatar) lose just because they thought it was anti-American. And Harry Potter has never won. In 2011 most were angry at the results. And now Harry Potter loses.

I find it heart-warming however, what Oldman did.

Congrats!!! Much deserved :D
