| | First signed US HBP makes its journey Yesterday J.K.Rowling signed the first author-signed copies of ' Half-Blood Prince' - one UK edition and one US edition. The UK is to go to the National Library of Scotland while the US will go to one lucky American library chosen in a prize draw.
Scholastic made an announcement about the US book, focusing on the security aurrounding its journey to the States.
"After J.K. Rowling signed the book in her office in Edinburgh, Scotland, a Scholastic executive traveled with the book-under tight security-to Southampton, England where it was placed in a 5 foot by 7 foot steamer trunk which was then locked and loaded by crane onto the Queen Mary 2 for its journey to America. When the ship docked in New York City harbor, the steamer trunk was unloaded and transferred by the ship's porters to a Dunbar Armored truck and taken to a secure and undisclosed location. It will remain there until Friday, July 15 at 9:30am when Dunbar will deliver the trunk to Scholastic headquarters for a press event. There the trunk will be unlocked and the book will be presented to the grand prize winner of Scholastic's nationwide public library sweepstakes. More than 9,000 public libraries nationwide entered the sweepstakes for a chance to win the book."
An image of Jo Rowling signing the book can be seen here.
Pictures from the novel's trans-atlantic journey can be viewed here, here and here.
A video of JKR signing the UK copy can be seen here.

I wish I could have a signed copy too... Great for them to have one! It might be such an honour!

^ We've seen that before It's rather hefty. I bet if you threw it at someone, it'd do some serious damage. To the book that is.

*stares* Sounds like they're shipping the Hope Diamond instead of a signed book.

Yeah it is. The 1st UK signed copy. The first US signed copy goes to a US library.

Wow, they have everything planned down to the minute of its journey to the US. They make it seem like a rare diamond (which theoretically speaking it is similar to for the fans).

That's a good question? I wonder too. I can't wait to find out which library won!
That's some pretty big security. Wow...they lifted into the ship? lol That's kind of weird. But I guess it's expected for these kinds of books.

Seriously......it's a bit nuts. That case he carried it in? Pfft, should have done more security! All someone would have had to have done was tackle him, grab the case, hop into the get away car, change every so often, break the lock, put the book else where, and hop on a plane wating for them else where. I've seen too many movies.
The size of that trunk was crazy, it's like 100 times bigger than the book. Then, they put it with storage............the guy should have just traveled with it. And why a boat? Why not a plane? Nevermind, who knows why anyone does anything?
