'Fantastic Beasts' sequel reportedly taking place in 1928 Paris, says David Yates
Two different sources are quoting director David Yates in stating that the sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will start off two years after the first installment - taking place in Paris, 1928. In this latest film from the Potter cosmos, Rowling moves her wizards and fabulous creatures to New York from 1926. The next film is only two years later. "Paris in 1928 is a place where everything is possible," Yates said. The magical world is very different from the English, the home of Harry Potter.
| Yates also admitted that the very close relationship between Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) and Dumbledore (to be cast) will be explored 'in later movies'. David Yates: The character of Grindelwald appears a lot more in the second film. Johnny Depp’s a gifted actor who has a fearless approach to his work and is ambitious and wants to go to some strange wonderful places, which makes him perfect for Grindelwald.
Grindelwald is a dark wizard, a very gifted wizard with a very dangerous ideology, and he had a relationship with Dumbledore – a very close relationship, which we’ll explore in the later films.
