Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them nearly hit $500 million in its international box office for the first 12 days of release, since opening on Wednesday, November 16th in overseas markets like France and South Korea.

The five-day Thanksgiving domestic take for Fantastic Beasts - which came in second in the U.S. and Canada to Disney's latest animated movie, Moana - at $65.8 million from 4,144 theaters. Fantastic Beasts has now made a total of $156.2 million in the U.S. and Canada since its release on Thursday, November 17th. Overall, Fantastic Beasts has brought in $474 million, and rising.

The Middle Kingdom launch for Beasts on 11,600 screens already exceeds the lifetimes of all Harry Potter movies, save the finale which grossed about $61M there. In Japan, the five-day opening drew 72% of the market, topping the bows of all Potter pics — save Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows 2 with which it was on par.

The sequel to Fantastic Beasts has already been greenlit by Warner Bros., and begins filming next July at Leavesden Studios in the UK.
