| | |  English school incorporates Potter in its curriculum
Three years ago, a primary school in Nottinghamshire, England, adopted a unique new curriculum. Every term, a theme is picked by the students, to which every class is adapted. Previously, the students have picked such themes as Titanic and Africa. For this term? You guessed it - every class includes particular aspects revolving around the world of Harry Potter.
In maths, for example, the students learn to subtract while pretending to cast a spell as the boy wizard would. In English class, they write plays based on the novels, and in history, the plane is discussed and compared to the broomstick.
Over the last three years, Robert Mellors Primary and Nursery has climbed up from the bottom 25% of the countries schools, and are now nearing the top 5%. Behaviour and the interest level shown by the students has generally improved.

Don't get the math thing either... I mean, how does subtraction do with casting a spell?
That'd be SO cool if my school did that... I'd so ace it! It'd be sweet. But that's what you get for not being in England... or in elementary school

That's great, I think more schools should include elements from the Harry Potter books, or include the books altogether. Taking elements from pop culture and incorporating them in the classroom is a really interesting idea, no wonder it's effective. It makes school seem more fun and less stoic.

That is a great idea. When you relate school to something that kids like they tend to pay more attention. Obviously it is working for them. More schools should adopt this method of teaching.
