Post Emma Watson talks Hermione, insecurities, acting with Gloria Steinem

Emma Watson sat down with renowned author Gloria Steinem on Wednesday evening to discuss their ideas of feminism and growing up as women at a special event held by How To Academy.

The two discussed life, books, and the perils and struggles of the world around them as part of promotion for the release of Steinem's new book My Life On The Road, at the Emmanuel Centre in London. The Harry Potter actress noted how much she was like her counterpart Hermione Granger during the discussion, and how she learned to embrace and overcome her insecurities, both outside and in. A few highlights can be read below.

Quote:
Emma Watson: 'I used to hate that I had strong eyebrows. As a nine-year-old I desperately wanted to pluck them and make them two thin lines.'

'You come to embrace these things. My mother desperately tried to tell me that they gave my face character, don't be ashamed.'

'I feel as though I spent a long time trying to pretend I was not like Hermione. And, of course, I was rather like Hermione. I've finally come to accept the fact.'

'I just shake and am really embarrassed and conscious that people can see me shaking. So I try to keep my hands out of view, then I try to introduce them later on so I don't look stiff.'

'Acting is the most transcendent amazing experience, and I love what I do. But to speak from my own experience is really amazing for me,'

'I was disturbed by how long a conversation I could have with any woman about what she didn't like about herself.'

This is all in part of Emma's new online book club, My Shared Self, and one of the things she wanted to do while taking a year off from acting.
