Emma Thompson, Dame Maggie Smith win at London Evening Standard British Film Awards
Harry Potter actresses Emma Thompson and Dame Maggie Smith were winners at Sunday's London Evening Standard British Film Awards. Smith won for Best Actress for her work in The Lady in the Van, while Thompson got best comedy performance for The Legend of Barney Thompson.
Photos of the two ladies with their awards can be seen below, as well as Thompson's thoughts on the Academy Awards' latest racial controversy.
Thompson dedicated her award to her longtime friend, the late Alan Rickman.
Quote:
"I'd like to commit this moment in time to dearest Alan Rickman who many of us are dearly missing tonight. It's so depressing but there it is, it does happen."
"He was the finest of actors and directors," she said. "I couldn’t wait to see what he was going to do with his face next. I consider myself hugely privileged to have worked with him so many times and to have been directed by him."
