Eddie Redmayne seems to have merged himself with his wizardly alter-ego Newt Scamander so much that he will talk ceaselessly and lovely about the magical creatures he carries in his enchanted briefcase, as shown in this latest interview with the actor to promote the November release of
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
The new article released a brand-new promo from Fantastic Beasts featuring Newt and Tina Goldstein speaking to Graves (Colin Farrell) in what looks to be the Wand Permit Office:
Redmayne discusses his adoration (and sometimes bemusement) from working with the animals.
The bowtruckle, of which Newt owns four, and of course has a favorite in Pickett:
Quote:
Eddie Redmayne: They’re wonderful at picking locks. There’s a specific Bowtruckle called Pickett who Newt loves. Pickett has attachment issues, and Newt lets him swing along in his top pocket.”
The Swooping Evil, which Newt milks venom from to study and use in potions.
Quote:
Redmayne: “My inner 9-year-old is obsessed with the Swooping Evil. He’s like this spiky ball with a thread that hangs down from Newt’s finger. When you spin him out, almost like a yo-yo, he unfurls into this terrifying creature.”
The Demiguise, which has a precognitive vision and is fairly difficult to catch.
Quote:
Redmayne: “It has this capacity to go from being visible to invisible, so their pelts can be used to make invisibility cloaks,”
The niffler, which the actor likens to an anteater and even uses the tactic of tickling it in order to make it uncurl.
Quote:
Redmayne: “It would curl up into a little ball, and in order to make it relax, she would tickle his little belly. There’s a moment where the Niffler has gorged himself on glittery stuff, and Newt is trying to get him to release his jewels. So he ends up tickling him.”
