Deathly Hallows: Part 2 top-grossing 2011 film in U.S. & Canada; 3rd all-time int'l

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 has now surpassed Transformers: Dark of the Moon today, becoming the top film of 2011 in the U.S. and Canada. As of Tuesday, August 9th, Deathly Hallows: Part 2 brought in $344.9 million in the domestic box office, just passing the third installment in the Transformers series, which has so far made $344.7 million since its release in late June 2011.

Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is also now the third highest-grossing film of all time in international markets, behind filmmaker James Cameron's Avatar and Titanic, and has thus far brought in $1,136.0 billion. It is assumed that the film will probably never pass Titanic's record of over $1.8 billion, especially given the blockbuster's 3D re-release in 2012.

If Harry doesn't over take the titanic i will be disappointed. I'll conceed the top spot to Avatar very reluctantly. But surely all us 'potter fans for life' worldwide should get it to 2 billion? it hasn't been out a month yet!

Yeah, I don't think so - BUT I also think that the sales of Titanic 3D won't add to the original version. I think it will be released as a '2012' version - even though it's the same movie. I hope so anyway... But YAY!! Harry Potter, I knew you could do it. Now we all have to make sure Twilight doesn't get higher....
