David Yates opened up about the current production of
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child plays, and the rumors going around that they would be turned into films.
The
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them director was completely against the idea of bringing the
Cursed Child to the big screen, and admitted he has had his fill of making
Harry Potter movies, since directing the latter half of the series.
Quote:
David Yates: "There's something unique and special keeping it as a play. It's a shame to then say 'Let's turn it into a movie'".
"It's a brave and incredibly successful way of presenting these classic characters. The guys who created it have done such a wonderful job and it's such a different medium."
For those wondering, Yates saw the
Cursed Child plays during the Lumos gala performances back in September, along with producer David Heyman,
Fantastic Beasts star Eddie Redmayne,
Harry Potter film actors Evanna Lynch, Warwick Davis, and Jason Isaacs, author J.K. Rowling, and many others.
The rumors around the possible Cursed Child movies note that they would not be going into production with Warner Bros. until the
Fantastic Beasts series is complete, and that could be a decade away, as there are five movies planned for release.
