David Heyman, Dan Fogler talk Johnny Depp's 'Fantastic Beasts' casting & controversy

At this point, it should not be of much surprise that Oscar-nominated actor Johnny Depp has officially been cast in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film series.

For now, we won't say who he's playing (but that will be revealed soon enough, if fans haven't seen it online already), but SnitchSeeker did talk exclusively to producer David Heyman and Fantastic Beasts' actor Dan Fogler this week not just about Depp's casting, but the controversy and backlash that surrounded the report made last week of his involvement.

More on that can be watched and read below. Please note that there are some spoilers for the first Fantastic Beasts film, out this November 18th, so do heed with caution. Neither Heyman nor Fogler mentioned who Depp portrays in the series.

SnitchSeeker: So, with Johnny Depp's casting, I do have to say there was quite a bit of a backlash. Do you have any opinions going forward with him and the rest of the series?
David Heyman:
A couple of things. One, when we cast Johnny, it was before this all happened. Two, any form of abuse is unacceptable. It's central to Jo's writing. But I don't think any of us know what happened in that room.

All I can say is that he's a wonderful actor, he was a pleasure to deal with. He's been a pleasure to deal with on all aspects of Fantastic Beasts. And, speaking to people who have worked with him in the past, people who have known him, gone out with him, and been married to him, they speak of him in glowing terms.

I don't know what happened, and I don't think it's fair for me or us to judge. What I do agree on is any abuse, anything physical, is unacceptable.

And you'll continue going forward working with Johnny?
Heyman:
Absolutely.

SnitchSeeker: Talk to me about Johnny Depp - the surprise casting and working with him (so far)?
Dan Fogler:
I didn't work with him (yet).

You know, I've always been a fan of John's work, and, you know, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - he's one of those guys who could have just gotten by on his looks, but then, he became a great character actor.

We didn't know we were already in a movie with him. We thought he was in the next couple of movies. So when Alison [Sudol] and I saw it, we were like 'Whoa! He's already in it!'

And he has had some controversy as of late, but I am one to wait till the verdict is out, before we make any judgements.
The clips above are just part of the exclusive sit-down chats SnitchSeeker had with Fogler and Heyman earlier this week; the full pieces, which include more spoiler-filled details about the Fantastic Beasts movie plots and deleted scenes, as well as Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, will be up shortly.

Also, SnitchSeeker will be covering the red carpet premiere of Fantastic Beasts on Thursday afternoon at Lincoln Center in New York City, so do keep an eye on all social media feeds, including Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram, for that. Prior to the premiere, SnitchSeeker will take part in a press conference for the movie, which will include J.K. Rowling, Heyman, David Yates, and stars Eddie Redmayne, Fogler, Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller and Alison Sudol.
