The longlist for the potential nominees of the 2016 Evening Standard Theatre Awards were announced by the publication on Wednesday, and the West End production of
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was recognised in the Best Play, Best Director, Best Design and Emerging Talent categories.
Scene-stealer Anthony Boyle, who portrays Scorpius Malfoy in the
Cursed Child production, was the sole acting long listed recognition from the entire play. J.K. Rowling, playwright Jack Thorne and director John Tiffany would be nominated in the Best Play category.
In addition to the
Cursed Child, several
Harry Potter film actors were recognised in the long list as well, including Sir Kenneth Branagh (Lockhart), Ralph Fiennes (Voldemort), Simon McBurney (Kreacher), and Helen McCrory (Narcissa Malfoy). Noma Dumezweni, who plays Hermione Granger in the Cursed Child plays, got a potential nod for her performance in
Linda.
The actual shortlisted nominations will be announced on October 24, 2016, and the awards ceremony will take place on November 13, 2016 in London.
