| | 2.5 million copies of HBP unsold in the US The Independent is reporting that 2.5 million copies of ' Half-Blood Prince' remain unsold in the US. The chairman for Scholastic, Richard Robinson, expects that the release of ' Goblet of Fire' will create a renewed interest in the novel series however the release of ' Prisoner of Azkaban' last year resulted in the sale of only 60,000 copies of the book.

Well I guess, people are gonna buy it sooner or later !!!! But I also realised here in Indonesia, on the 16th of July, I was ready to go get my book as soon as the stores opens at 10AM, cause I pre-ordered the book and everything... And when I got to the mall, I was stunned to see that there was nobody there, I was the first to get there and there was nobody else, and the thing is there was at least 3 or 4 bookstores that were all prepared for the launching and everything u know, with all the posters and decorations and stuff... I expected lots of fans (well maybe not as much as in England or something) queuing up in from of the cashier and stuff... Well, maybe cause its in Indonesia, people are more waiting for the translated version I guess... But still... When I read it on my way back home on the bus and on the street people were like "Is that the new harry potter ?? Is it out already ?? Was it today ??"... But they werent that interested... Oh well...
Its true that the 5th book wasnt that exciting, the 4th is, so far, still my favourite... I agree when u guys said that maybe cause the 5th wasnt all that, that people didnt really want to buy the 6th or something... But still, I think, if u read the 5th, u really wanted to know what happens next dont u ?? Well, I prefer HBP than OoTP thats for sure...
Maybe not after the 4th but after the 5th movie people will take more interest in HBP... I dunno...

It's quite obvious, since the OoTP has just one proper kiss in it (unless you count Fleur, who just likes the "action" ). What else is there to read about, for haven's sake?
I agree with Kelann, that's exactly how I felt.
I even started to think... maybe JKR is just getting tired? :toilet2:

that's a lotta copies... Both Sold and not. Hey, think positive, I'm sure they'll all be gone in a few years. Kinda like the Lord of the Rings series!

it's kinda dumb printing out a lot more than they would expect. some parents might've refused to buy their kids one because they noticed that the books are getting darker and they think it might be a little bit too much for the kids. but with the movie coming out soon, i think it will boost the sales.

That's really not that bad. They printed... what? 10.8 million copies, right? And they haven't sold 2.5 million. That's actually a really good ratio. It means the wold 8.3 million copies which is definitely something to boast over rather than moan over that many not selling.

The should eventually sell. You never know the GOF movies could get people more interested.

they will probably sell eventually. You just have to wait until more movies come out. People might be more interested to see what happens after the gof so they will buy the remaining books.

I say donate them. There are thousands of kids out there who maybe can't afford to buy the books and want to. It would sure make someone's day!

We spent time here. We made friends here. That's a part of us.
Cause Hogwarts is bigger than any of us, of any of it's founders,
and it's going to be around long after we're gone.
Maybe we'll see our kids come here one day.
That's the thing about Hogwarts.
No matter how long you're away from it, there's always a way back. |

I certainly didn't expect there to be excess copies hanging around. I should get a few copies to hand out to my lit class... bunch of Muggles, I was the only obsessive fan in the room.
But I agree that the best move would be to give the books to charity. I'm sure there are many kids out there who love HP but couldn't afford their own copy of the book.

I think that once the Goblet of Fire comes out, there will be a renewed interest in Harry Potter. That book was my favorite out of the series and if they don't read it then it is their loss. It is a shame that they aren't selling. |
