| | 2.5 million copies of HBP unsold in the US The Independent is reporting that 2.5 million copies of ' Half-Blood Prince' remain unsold in the US. The chairman for Scholastic, Richard Robinson, expects that the release of ' Goblet of Fire' will create a renewed interest in the novel series however the release of ' Prisoner of Azkaban' last year resulted in the sale of only 60,000 copies of the book.

| It's a shame that they didn't sell them all but they shouldn't have printed so many in the first place. Maybe GoF will make people read it. Who knows.. |

I think that they will be more likely this time round to buy the Goblet of Fire novel as it really does look so amazing. (I found it really hard not to swear then) I cant express other than in swear words how cool I think the movie looks!
The book maybe a bit slow paced for people who've only seen the movie when its out but they defo wont be upset with what they see!
Im sure those books will clear if not some time soon but in the future. Ill look for ward to hearing when they have all cleared off the shelfs!!

When I got my copy (Scholastic one) I thought it was too dark-colored, Bloomsbury is way better. Then I read it and found that the book is, let's face it, clearly worse than its predecessors. I don't know why, but that's my feeling. |

They do this everytime, they make more then is needed. I remember they had pleanty left over from OotP. It's their mistake, they should estimate the amount needed based on previous sales.

yea well, they never know hgow many new fans they're going to get from the books. Plus I think new readers look at the size of those things, (let's face it, theyre bigger than the bible lol) and maybe get intimitated.

i guess it's complacency..yes,the books are awesome! but not every household buys one. and in each house, say there are 2 fans, they're probably going to buy only 1..unless they're all fanatics like us (i wont share my HP books..)

GoF is the best HP book and there're also lots of negative critics about HBP

Yeah! I was really surprised to see so many copies of it in the store! I just couldn't believe it! Maybe they have read the fifth book and didn't think it was very good, so they thought maybe this one wouldn't be good either.
I thought that book five wasn't as good as the others. It just wasn't as exciting as the others. And the climax wasn't very cllimatic. I didn't think that it was that descriptive either. But I still enjoyed reading it.
Maybe some of the people who didn't want to buy it had friends who told them that SOMEBODY died in the book. [Sorry for those of you who haven't read the book, but I refuse to spoil it!]
And for those who haven't read book number six, I'd give it 5 stars! :bnawtf:

yeah, I figured, becuase everytime I go to Borders, I see this HUGE pile of books in the middle of the store, and I don't see it getting smaller. I think I saw that happen everytime, well, at elast with GoF and OotP. You would they would learn from their mistakes.

Aw, that's too bad. I would've thought taht more were sold. O well, at least they'll have a lot after fans see GoF and want to read the books. Then for sure they'll be sold!

Those copies will be sold eventually, there are always pps who think the prices will drop after a while... Quote:

It's always going to be a guess on how many copies one should get. I rather see some left then standing in line for several hours to find that there weren't enough copies...

Hogwarts RPG Name: Jenna Reetz | Dumb Americans. (I'm not trying to offend anybody cause I'm an American too.) Alot of people want to read the book but htey just check it out of the library or borrow it from somebody else. Well that's from my experience.
But that's also weird because all of my friends bought a copy. Well maybe that's because they would be scared that I'd chop their heads off if they didn't but still...

All that in reply to KissingR'G
Well, as a matter of fact, I enjoyed OoTP much more than this. I mean that I DID like HBP (who didn't?!), but less than OoTP and GoF. May be the reason is that I found Umbridge-Harry relationship much more interesting, than R/H, which is mainly what the HBP is about. That secret societies (the Order and the DA), that torment of Harry that none believed him and DD didn't seem to bother, the Occlumency and the episode with Snape, the climax, when DD explains his mistake... oh well, I can go on forever. I know that JK didn't like OoTP 'cause it was too long and "unorganized" and I say NEVER the book you love is too long. In the opposite, its always too short! Much like LotR - JRRT once said he agrees with many fans that "the worst thing about the book is it beingtoo short" (only about 1100 with appendices).
And compared to all this - the ordinary outbrake of teenage hormones seems a little dull (imo), sorry. The treason of Snape was FAR from being unexpected. It is interesting when the baddie turns out to be a good guy, and if it finally becomes clear that he really was a scumbag (HP word ), well... you don't jump to the ceiling, do you? You just shrug and go on reading. And I never shipped H/G, and it seemed to me very far-fetched that they got together. Their characters are very much alike, and when we seek a partner, we usually look for opposite qualities. Opposite to Gryffindor is Ravenclaw (Leo-Aquarius), so I thought it would be Luna, who is as typical an Aquarius as one can imagine. (concerning R/H, by the way, its Virgo-Pisces, so it matches).
So, sorry for dragging it too long (and "a little" off topic) I liked the previous book more than HBP. And not me alone, I asked a few people, they agree.

There are only so many people in the world tht like hp...and only so many that like to read! some rather wait till the movie comes out! than read the book. personally i like all the other books better than hbp! i can only read it once and thats a shocker for me! i was kind of bored untill like the last three chapters or something like that...it didnt get interesting to me untill harry and dumbledore left for the cave! while i think that the harry/ginny story line was obvious....i didnt care for it it was like he was following the same line as his parents i kind of wanted him with luna...and i wanted some more ron/hermione action and there wasnt any really not untill the last chapters
