Chapter 23

I watched as both of them looked over at me. They stared at me for a long time, as if they didn’t believe it was true. Then my mother was crying.

“Elliot.” She said softly, quickly getting up from the table. Her arms found me quickly, and wrapped around me tightly.

“I’m sorry mom.” I whispered into her chest.

“No. I’m sorry Elliot. I’m so sorry. This is all my fault.” She said, releasing me to look into my eyes. She set her hands on my face, wiping the silent tears that had escaped.

Giving me a light smile, she said, “I love you. Please don’t ever do that again.”

“I won’t.” I promised.

She looked up from me, and saw Aleksander standing with a smile on his face. “Aleks. Thank you for saving your brother.”

“Not a hero mom. Just missed Ellie Bellie.” Aleksander chuckled. I rolled my eyes at the nickname, but smiled inwardly. The name was growing on me.

“Is she ok?” My mother asked, looking at Loanna in his arms.

“Yeah, she should be.” He replied and walked into the living room. Gently, he set her down onto the couch, and Jacoby handed her a blanket.

“Thank you.” She said in a tiny voice.

“Your welcome.” Jacoby said politely.

“Where’s dad?” I asked.

“How could I forget?” She hit her head with the palm of her hand. “Milo! Elliot’s back and Aleks!”

Everybody turned at the sound of running footsteps comming from the hall.

“Elliot!” My name was screeched. I had to brace myself, as Otto threw himself at me, locking his arms around my waist. He then hung on like his life depended on it. I chuckled and wrapped my arms around him.

My father walked out next. As soon as he saw me, his shoulders dropped in relief. A smile erupted on his tired face and he made his way toward me. “You don’t know how I happy I am to see your safe.” He gave me half a hug, as Otto was still latched to my waist. He then walked over to Aleksander and embraced him. “I’m glad you both made it out of there.”

“Come on Otto. I’m not going anywhere.” I said, trying to break free of my little brother’s grasp.

Everybody let out a small chuckle. “He missed you.” My mother smiled.

I let a smile slip onto my lips, as I ran my hand through his brown hair. “I missed you too Otto.” He finally let go of my waist, his eyes wide.

“Don’t ever leave again Elliot. I’ll give you my best running shoes and do all your chores. I’ll even read some of your poems.” He said in a quick breath.

“I’m not going anywhere. This is my home.” I told him reassuringly. He bounced on the toes of his feet excitedly and gave me the biggest smile I have ever seen. I had missed this too.

“Do you want me to get you some pain relieving potion? I’m sure we have some in the house.” I turned to see my mother looking down at Loanna.

“No I’m fine. Thank you.” Loanna replied, graciously.

“Get her some Mum.” I said, receiving a stubborn look from Loanna. She didn’t fool me. I knew she only refusing to be polite. I could tell she was in pain.

“Jake, do you know where some is?” My mother turned to look at my brother.

“It’s in the bathroom. I’ll get it.” Jacoby replied, leaving the room.

My mother turned back to Loanna, with a motherly look on her face. “How long did they keep you there?” she asked softly.

“Almost four days.” Loanna said quietly. I felt a lump form in my throat.

“After you get some potion, we will take you home. Your mother must be worried about you.” My mother smiled, turning her attention to Jacoby, who had reentered. She missed the frantic look Loanna had given me.

“Um, Mom? Do you think it would be all right if Loanna stayed the night? I don’t think her mom will be home. She…works nights. So Loanna would be home al by herself.” I made up quickly.

“Are you sure your mom won’t be home?” My mother asked, as she gave Loanna a cup of blue liquid.

“I’m pretty sure she won’t be home.” Loanna said, not looking her in the eye, and taking the cup. I could tell she hated lying to my mother. But she hated her home more. “Thank you for the potion.”

“No problem, and of course you can stay here for the night.” She smiled.

“How about we all get some sleep?” My father said with a cheery smile, setting his hands on Aleksander’s shoulders. The rest agreed happily and began walking toward their respective rooms.

I made sure they were out of hearing range, before walking quickly toward the couch, and knelt down in front of her. “Do you think your mom is going to be mad?” I asked her.

“No. She is going to be furious.” Loanna said sadly, taking a sip from her cup.

“But it wasn’t your fault! How can she be mad for you being kidnapped?” I asked angrily.

“Do you think she will believe I was kidnapped? And even if she did, she will be mad I came back.” She looked away from me.

“Do you really think that?” I asked her. Nobody could be that cruel, could they?

“Elliot. Come on. You can talk to Loanna in the morning. Lets get some sleep.” My mother said, her tone happy. I didn’t want to upset her, so I didn’t argue and got up from the floor.

“Sleep well.” I heard her tell Loanna, before slipping into my room.

I quickly undressed and threw on some clean pajamas, thinking about Loanna and her mother. It was hard to believe all the bad things Loanna said about her mother were true. But then again, Loanna never spoke ill about anybody. Even the morons at school. She wouldn’t say anything bad about somebody unless it was absolutely true. I didn’t want her to go back home. I didn’t want her to have to deal with her mother’s wrath. I didn’t want her to be in pain anymore. But what could I do?

Just as I was drifting off to sleep, I heard my door creep open. I sat up and let my eyes adjust on a small shadow in the doorway.

”Otto?”

“I just wanted to make sure you didn’t leave again.” He whispered.

“I’m still here. I promise you, I won’t go anywhere again.” I said, trying to reassure my little brother. I saw him nod in the dark.

“I can’t sleep.” He said, after a moment of silence.

“Do you want to sleep with me tonight?” I asked. I saw him nod again, and I smiled. Raising the covers, I motioned for him to climb in. Joyfully, he ran up to my bed and carefully jumped underneath the covers.

“Thanks Elliot.” He said, laying his head on my pillow.

“Good night Otto.” I whispered.

“Night Elliot.”

Chapter 24

“Elliot! Wake up!”

I jumped, my eyes popping open and my body shooting up. It took a second for my eyes to adjust to the light coming in from my window, before focusing on Otto. He had a grin on his face, and pillow hair.

“Otto.” I groaned, falling back onto my bed.

“Come on Elliot. Get up! Mom made waffles!” Otto said excitedly, pulling on my arm.

“Alright, I’m up.” I chuckled, sliding out of my bed, and out the room.

He pulled on my arm to make me walk faster and soon we were running to the kitchen. I never realized how fun it was just to run. It made me feel like a little kid again. I could see why Otto loved to run so much now.

“Hey, what’s the rush?” My mother smiled, as we entered the kitchen. I laughed and sat down at the table.

“Waffles!” Otto said eagerly, sitting down next to me.

“They are almost done. After Jake is done with the third batch, we will eat.” My mother said, beginning to take plates down from the cupboard. Jacoby was stacking the waffles onto another plate, and I sniffed greedily. They smelled so delicious, my mouth was beginning to water.

“I smell waffles.” Aleksander walked in, his hair in disarray and still in his pajamas.

My mother chuckled, placing plates around the table. Next Jacoby was bringing the plate stacked with waffles to the table. I could have laughed at the eager looks on Aleksander and Otto’s faces.

“Wait!” My mother said, as Aleksander reached for a waffle. Everybody turned to watch as she sat down, a sly smile on her face. She then looked around the table. “Go!”

I watched as my brothers all reached for the waffles at the same time. They all grabbed the same one and began to pull. Otto was squealing with laughter, as Aleksander began to pull harder, his tongue in between his teeth. Jacoby had a smile on his face, as he pulled the waffle free from the other two.

“No fair!” Aleksander cried.

“Life isn’t fair.” Jacoby chuckled, pouring syrup onto his waffle.

“Aren’t you hungry El?” Otto asked, slipping a waffle onto his plate.

“Here.” Aleksander grabbed a waffle off the stack and set it on my plate. It was such a nice gesture, that it threw me off for a second.

“Thank you.” I said slowly. Aleksander grinned at me before taking a bite off his plate.

As I ate my waffle, I sat quietly in my seat, watching my family interact with each other. They all seemed so happy. Every once in a while, they would turn to look at me, and smile. I couldn’t help but smile back at them. At times, I use to dislike my family. But now as I sat around the table with them, I knew I wouldn’t be able to give up any of them. Being away from them made me realize that. Having no brothers would make my life miserable. They kept me on my toes. Before I hated being on my toes, but I can’t see my life any other way now.

“Why don’t you see if Loanna is awake while I clean up, Elliot.” My mother said, as she stood up from the table. Otto was the only one still eating his half eaten waffle. Everything about Otto was fast. But when it came to eating, he was always the last one to leave the table.

I had almost forgot about Loanna, as I stood up from my chair. Walking into the living room, I found Loanna still sleeping. Gently, I shook her. “Lolo.”

Sleepy green eyes opened, and she let out a yawn. I waited until she sat up and rubbed the exhaustion from her eyes, before speaking.

“Mum is going to take you home as soon as she is done cleaning up the kitchen.” I said, frowning. I really didn’t want her to go back home. I could only imagine what her mom had in store for her.

Loanna woke up fully at these words and bit her lip. “Ok.” She replied.

“Do you want me to ask my mom if you can stay longer?”

“No. I don’t want to trouble her.” She said, her cheeks turning pink.

“It won’t be any trouble.” I said, my gaze growing intense. If her mom did something to her, I don’t know what I would do. I had just gotten her out of danger, and now there was a change I might be putting her in it again.

“You’re awake. Good. How are you feeling?” my mother said, entering the living room. I knew I had lost the battle, and sighed as Loanna stood up.

“Feeling much better, thank you.” She said in her low tone.

“That’s great. You ready to go home?” she asked, an unknowing smile lighting up her face.

“Sure.”

“I’m coming too.” I said, standing up. Quickly I slipped on my shoes that were by the door and walked out of the house behind my mother. I walked a little behind her and Loanna, trying not to let my bad mood be noticeable.

“I live right here.” Loanna said quietly, walking up the steps to a gray house.

My mother smiled at her, as she knocked on the door. I glanced at Loanna and I saw she was biting her lip again. She was nervous. It was obvious by the look in her eyes. I swallowed hard as the door opened and a middle-aged woman answered it. Her hair was pulled up in a messy ponytail, the same color as Loanna’s hair. Her eyes were pitch-black, and looked menacing. She wore a pink bathrobe, and had massacre running down from her eyes. She looked at me, then my mother before landing on Loanna.

“Oh for goodness sakes!” she snapped. Loanna flinched. “Again Louise? I am getting tired of your nonsense. Get in the house!”

My mother gave her a baffled look and said nothing. I felt my fists clench.

“I didn’t do anything. And my name is Loanna.” Loanna mumbled, her head bowed down desolately.

“Just like last time? Is this the boy that you have been messing around with? He better not be a muggle.” Loanna’s mother scoffed.

“Excuse me. But your daughter is not messing around with my son. She was kidnapped a few days ago. Have you not noticed that Loanna has been missing?” My mother stepped in. I could see the anger beginning to enter her eyes. My mother angry was never a good sight. I’ve never welcomed it more at this moment.

“That’s rich. Did my daughter tell you to say that?” she sneered.

My mother just stared at her in shock. I wanted to snap my fingers in front of her face. I think she was on the verge of losing it.

“I said get in the house! Now!” Loanna’s mother screeched, and grabbed Loanna roughly by the arm.

Loanna cringed at the touch and threw me a fearful look. I turned to my mother who still had the shocked look on her face. “Mum!” I said, bringing her out of her stupor.

“Excuse me. But you do not treat a child like that.” She said, breaking the hold on Loanna. I grabbed a handful of the back of Loanna’s shirt and pulled her toward me, away from her mother.

“And where do you put off telling me how to raise my child?” Loanna’s mother crossed her arms defensively over her chest.

“Elliot, take Loanna home.” My mother said, her eyes locked with Loanna’s mother. Loanna’s mother didn’t try to stop us, but I saw her eyes narrow at my mother.

I didn’t need telling twice, as I took Loanna’s hand into my own and walked hurriedly home.

Chapter 25

When we walked back into my house, two sets of eyes focused on us. Jacoby and Aleksander were both sitting on the couch looking at us, confused expressions on their faces.

“What’s she doing back?” I heard Aleksander say, but I ignored him. I was watching Loanna’s face, as it slowly turned from fearful, to panic.

“I’m sorry Elliot. So sorry. I shouldn’t have…I should have gone home by myself. I…I…” Tears filled her emerald orbs and her hands were trembling.

“Loanna don’t be sorry. You did nothing wrong.” I said, trying to calm her. She didn’t seem to hear me, turning away so nobody could see her.

I heard footsteps, then my father walked in. His expression resembled his sons on the couch as he asked, “What happened?”

“Where’s mum?” Aleksander asked.

I tried my best to ignore them, as I focused on Loanna. She was sniffing and rubbing frantically at her eyes. I set my hand on her shoulder, showing that I was there for her, when the front door opened again. Everybody’s eyes turned to look at my mother, except for Loanna’s.

“Samantha?” My father said hesitantly.

“I can’t believe that woman. She is absolutely ridiculous!” she was saying to herself.

“What happened?” My father asked.

She was about to answer him, when Loanna sniffed again. Her attention was captured by my best friend, and she walked over to her. She slowly turned Loanna around. “Don’t cry dear. It’s over.” My mother said gently, and pulled her into a hug.

“I’m sorry Mrs. Edwards. I don’t mean to be such a bother.” Loanna cried into her chest.

“You could never be a bother. How that woman treats you is not right. I would never have left you with her the first time if I knew she was that terrible to you.” My mother said calmly, running her hand soothingly through Loanna’s hair.

“Did she get yell at you? I’m sorry.” Loanna began to cry harder.

“Shh. Don’t worry about it. Everything is ok.” My mother said hugging her tighter. “You don’t have to worry about going to that awful woman anymore. You are going to be staying with us from now on.”

My eyes grew wide, and I felt my mouth drop slightly. Was she serious? Was Loanna really going to be living with us? She never had to go home to her crazy mother again?

“Really?” Aleksander asked, looking as surprised as I felt.

“Yes. Is that ok Milo?” she said, turning to my father. He gave her a calculating look, before running his hand through his hair. Then he smiled lightly.

“Of course it’s ok with me.” He said sincerely.

“See? You have nothing to worry about anymore. Now, how about I heat up some waffles for you?” My mother smiled down at Loanna.

“I ate them all!” Otto yelled from the kitchen. My mother rolled her eyes but let out a chuckle.

“I’ll make more.” She said simply.

Loanna gave her a shaky smile, wiping a tear from her cheek. “Thank you Mrs. Edwards.”

“Call me Samantha. And call him Milo. He doesn’t like to be called Mr. Edwards.” My mother said, throwing a sly look toward my father. My father shook his head with amusement.

“That’s cause it’s not my last name, Mrs. Edwards.” He replied.

“That’s not what it says on our marriage license.” My mother giggled. My father grabbed her around the waist and kissed her gently on the lips. My mother let out a gleeful chuckle.

“Gross! Can you please not do that while I’m in the room?” Aleksander said, his face looking disgusted.

“Well then, why don’t you leave the room?” my mother laughed.

“I’m out!” Aleksander said, retreating to his room.

“Me too. That is not right.” Jacoby followed after him.

“Come on, I know Otto didn’t eat all the waffles. He can barely eat two.” I said, directing Loanna toward the kitchen and away from my parent’s public display of affection. Loanna chuckled lightly, following me into the kitchen.

A smile began to spread on my lips. It seemed like my Little Greek Story was finally over. Now I could truly be happy.

I gave you a lot of my reactions while you posted, but for the comments you didn't get to see, well here they are.

Quote:
“Come on Lo. Wake up.” I whispered, a tear falling down my cheeks.
You always say I make you cry, well the tables have turned, my friend! I almost started tearing up at this point; so unfair.

And this is where I DID start tearing up, very nearly cried. Funnily, it was for the opposite reason, kind of. I giggled too. This was a VERY, very cute moment but so sad at the same time. <3

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeek! I cannot say it enough, I really can't. I LOVE Sammy to absolutely no end. She truly amazes me. And YESSSSS! Loanna! She's FREEEE!

That was a perfect way to end it; though I wish it didn't have to end. *sniffs* Every time I read your FFs it makes me want write, too. You are inspiring, my dearest Quad #2. Expect to be bugged about writing more in the future. I love youuu! <333 I'm going to go tear up now, and then maybe re-read this FanFic from the start. You are BRILLIANT.
