A dozen white feathered Pekin ducks could be found gracefully swimming or sunning themselves in this pond in this pond. With their orangish-yellow legs and feet and short yellow beak, this particular variety of feathered creatures is among the friendliest of its species you will ever come across.
The rocky ledge surrounding the pond allows you to take a seat. You may even dip your feet into the pristine water if you like, just beware of the ducks wanting to take a nip at your feet for the fun of it. Or maybe theyve mistaken your toes for a tasty treat? Speaking of treats have you brought along a snack for these magnificent creatures? While bread is not high in nutritional value for them, they will accept fresh and small pieces of it. Lettuce, oats, seeds and cooked rice will also suffice.
Play nicely with the ducks! While they are social, they will not take kindly to anyone being cheeky with them!
OOC: You are free to RP for the ducks though there should be no serious injuries!

Addyson was finally alone and she was enjoying it.
At home, she always felt like everything she did- she did with her siblings. They had always been a trio and now... They were separated into different houses. Avalon in Gryffindor (very fitting), Taliesin in Hufflepuff (also fitting), and herself in Ravenclaw. Being in different houses was a welcoming reminder that they were all different. In the past, she felt as if others clumped her with her triplets calling them all the same. At least, at Hogwarts (still an odd name for a school), she wouldn't have people constantly confuse her and her sister as they were identical... While she enjoyed the independence, there was a tiny - no, miniscule feeling of longing for Avalon's brightness and Taliesin's calmness. But Addyson would never tell them that. At least, Castamere (their beloved cat) would find and keep her company.
She wiggled her toes in the water, enjoying the peace and quiet. "I should have brought some bread," she spoke to no one in particular. Maybe the ducks could speak back?

Squuuuuuueeeee! There was a duck pond! Her big brother has told her many many things about his first year at Hogwarts but for some unknown reason never once had the boy mentioned a duck pond. Really she didn't understand why he hadn't told her. Like why keep it a secret? Perhaps... Maaaaaayyyybe, it had something to do with the way she reacted to ducks. No, she wasn't at all afraid of them, it was in fact very very much the exact opposite.
This first year LOVED them! So much so that she even has a stuffed plushis of one up in her dorm sat on her bed. She may also have a much small plush one that she also carried around in the pocket of her robes. Ducks were fabulous!
So one could only imagine Gabby's utter surprise as she came across the pond during one of her exploration walks out on the grounds. There was a LOUD squeal of pure delight, bouncing on her toes and clapping of her hands. This girl was beyond thrilled! Hopefully none of the little duckies were startled too much... Because oops!

Bria skipped across the lush green grass of the Hogwarts grounds, her vibrant red scarf trailing behind her like a banner in the crisp autumn breeze. The sun hung low in the sky, casting golden rays across the trees whose leaves were beginning to turn shades of amber and crimson. The air was sharp but sweet, filled with the scent of damp earth and wood smoke from distant chimneys. The house elves must be busy preparing for dinner already!
She hummed happily to herself, her boots crunching over the fallen leaves as she made her way toward the duck pond. The sound of quacking and the occasional splash of water reached her ears long before she could see the water. She had been eager to come here all morning, her heart light with excitement as she rounded a bend in the path. The pond came into view, shimmering beneath the golden afternoon light, and Bria quickened her pace to a near sprint. A group of ducks swam lazily near the edge, their feathers a mix of brown and white, bobbing in the gentle ripples. A few of them were waddling along the muddy banks, flapping their wings and quacking loudly, as if to greet her. Brias laughter bubbled up as she clapped her hands together, delighted by the response. I knew youd be in a good mood today! she called out, her voice full of affection and laced with laughter.
Brias laughter was cut short by a high-pitched squeal that seemed to come from nowhere. The Gryffindor turned, startled at first, but her expression softened pretty much immediately. A girl, no older than Bria herself surely, was bouncing on her toes, clapping her hands excitedly. Her wide eyes were fixed on the ducks, who, admittedly, did seem a little taken aback by the noise but Brias heart swelled with an immediate sense of camaraderie nonetheless. You like ducks too? Bria asked, her voice bright and inviting, completely unbothered by the fact that the girl had probably startled every feathered friend within a mile radius. Very relatable, honestly. Bria had been THAT kid plenty of times and at least ducks were more mellow than hippogriffs. "I mean, I GET it. They're fantastic. I mean, just look at them!

Oh me, oh my! 😳 Oops!
Where had this other girl come from?! Had she been here the entire time and I. Gabby's excitement she hadn't noticed? The thought was very much plausible seeing as to how the other young girl was much closer to the ducks than she herself was. Hopefully the ducks.. and the girl give her for her loudness.
"Yes, I love them! I didn't realize anyone else was here though, sorry if I startled you." Her dark eyes moved between the girl to the ducks. "Sorry duckies. I'll try not to be so loud." It was only right that she apologized to them as well. This was their home after all.
At least it didn't appear that she had scared any of the ducks off. And the girl didn't seem at all angry or upset with her. "Right?! How can you not like them. The waddle and fly and swim! They're just the cutest!" Gabriella giggled. "Do you have a favorite one? I'm Gabby by the way." Can't forget to introduce herself!

Bria chuckled, her smile warm and welcoming as she waved off Gabby's apology. "Oh, no worries at all! Honestly, I get it. I get just as loud when I'm around them sometimes too - maybe even louder." She laughed again, her voice light. As Gabby apologized to the ducks, Bria couldn't help but admire how considerate she was and quickly added, "Yeah, theyre probably used to the noise considering this IS Hogwarts and there always seems to be something or another going on, but its really sweet of you to apologize to them. They definitely appreciate it. This is their home, after all."
Her gaze flicked from Gabby to the ducks, her eyes sparkling with affection. "And I totally agree! Theyre just so adorable. The way they waddle around like they own the place, or how they flap their wings like theyre the kings of the pond - it's impossible not to love them!" Though she had met a handful of people who took great issue with things that could fly or anything that happened to have feathers. Bria couldn't quite understand why anyone could feel such a way, but that didn't mean she couldn't also be empathetic.
Bria took a few steps closer to her fellow duck enthusiasts, squatting down to get a better look at the ducks. "As for a favorite... Oh, that's tough!" She sighed dramatically, as if it were the hardest question in the world. And, honestly, in this moment is certainly felt that way! Bria crouched low by the edge of the pond, her eyes scanning the flock of Pekin ducks that had gathered near the water's edge. They were beautifuleach one with its soft, snow-white feathers gleaming in the autumn sunlight, the gentle ripples of the pond reflecting in their beady, curious eyes. There was the one with a little tuft of feathers on its head, looking more regal than ANY duck had the right to be. It waddled with an air of dignity, and Bria imagined it must be the oldest or wisest of the group. But then there was another, a perfectly round little duck, its body so plump and its waddle so endearing that Bria couldnt help but giggle as it stumbled on to the bank. That one had such a joyful energy, always moving in quick little bursts, like it was constantly in a rush to experience everything. Bria sighed softly, leaning back on her hands as she flopped on to the grass entirely at last. How could she POSSIBLY choose? Every duck had something special about it...something that made it irreplaceable in its own way. Some were full of spunk, others calm and serene, but all of them were amazing. Bria paused, giving Gabby a sheepish grin. "I can't choose!" she laughed, tossing her head and shaking her blonde hair free from the loose fastenings that had been keeping it out of her face. She was pretty sure she finally understood the faces dad and mum made whenever she asked them if they liked her or Emrys better.
"Oh! Ever so nice to meet you, Gabby. Im Bria!"

As usual, Phoebe needed to think. Her preference was to do it alone, but alone was hard in a huge castle like this one. That was a not-insignificant part of why, after more than four years at Hogwarts, she was considering homeschooling. With the vision of her garden and of her very own room, and with the walls of Hogwarts seeming to close in on her, it was harder and harder to find reasons to like this school.
The duck pond, though... that was a nice place. Phoebe loved the nearby rocks and plants, and she loved the peace and brain-quiet (despite the loud ducks), and she loved the ducks most of all. She escaped the castle once again today with the intention of committing the ducks to memory. There was a small part of her that wanted to believe that a duck could remember her, but she wasn't sure if that was possible.
"Seeds and lettuce are much better for ducks than bread is," Phoebe said aloud to the voice and the back of the person that came into view as she approached the pond. She hadn't intended to say it, and she hadn't intended to get involved in a conversation right now... and yet, here she was.

Oh, thank the heavens! Hearing the girl admit she was just as loud as herself took Gabby's guilt away. It was really difficult containing all of her excitement about different things sometimes. So knowing she wasn't alone in that helped. "I don't know how others remain so calm all of the time. Especially being here at Hogwarts were everything is so.. so.. exciting!" She had been about to say 'magical' but of course it was. Gabby smiled. "They have feelings too and it's only fair if I include them in the apology." Bria was right, this was the ducks home and it should be respected.
Gabs giggled, nodding her head and sending her brown hair flying into her face which only made her giggle all the more. "That's what I love about them too. They do everything so matter of factly and without a care in the world." Sometimes she wondered what it would be like to be a duck. Surely it had to be fun? Although, she supposed it wasn't fun all of the time.
While Bria moved closer to the waters edge, Gabby remained where she was looking from one duck to the next. Each one had it's own little distinguishing detail that made it stand out from the rest. Yet, they were all still similar in one way or another. A wide smile spread across this first years lips, joyful giggles following. "Me either! They're all so special in their own way."
At seeing Bria flop onto the grass, Gabby decided to follow suit. Dropping right down onto her bottom a few feet away from her new friend. "Hiya Bria! Is this your favorite spot so far?" Because she thought it was hers now!

Bria’s grin widened at Gabby’s words. It was so nice to meet someone who just got IT - who understood how impossible it was to stay calm when surrounded by things that made the world feel so alive and special. Mum and dad had been right in assuring her she would find people with like interests and hearts. "Right?! Everything here is just so big and wonderful and... and I don' think I have a big enough vocabulary for it all!" She flung her arms out wide, as if trying to encompass the sheer magic of it all. Mum was amazing with words though - Bria wished she could be as eloquent as her. "I think I’d actually explode if I had to bottle it all up."
She propped elbows up more on her knees, her chin resting in the bowl her palms made, and glanced over at Gabby with a bright laugh. "I think you’re absolutely right - they do do everything so matter-of-factly. Like, ‘Oh yes, I meant to fall into the water just now. I am graceful and dignified and definitely not flailing.’” Bria cast another affectionate glance at the ducks, who were now preening and splashing about, clearly unbothered by the earlier commotion. “You know, I’ve always thought ‘water off a duck’s back’ is such a wonderful expression,” she mused, watching the ducks now. “They just let things go - no matter how much rain or splashing or fuss, they shake it off and keep waddling. I think people could learn a lot from that.”
When Gabby asked about her favorite spot, Bria tilted her head in thought. "Ooooh, that's a hard one!" She glanced at the pond, then up at the towering castle behind them, then back at Gabby. "It’s definitely up there...but I think I need to do a bit more exploring before I pick an all-time favorite, you know?" Bria's gaze shifted back out to the ducks, giggling a little at their antics before a uncontrollable urge came over her. With a thoughtful hum, Bria sat up a little straighter and cupped her hands around her mouth. The Gryffindor blonde let out a soft, rhythmic whah-whah - a rather impressive imitation of a duck’s greeting call. The sound carried across the pond, the call almost seeming to cause ripple to appear over the surface of the water, and a few ducks perking up and turning their heads toward her. The plump little one she had noticed earlier let out a delighted quack in response, its orange webbed feet paddling furiously as it made its way onto the bank. Another followed, this one slightly larger duck with a charming little head tuft, and waddled over with the casual confidence of a bird that knew it was important. Bria giggled as the smaller duck wasted no time in waddling up to her and settling into her lap - its warm, feathery body pressing comfortably against her legs. "Well, hello there," she cooed, running her fingers gently over its soft back. The tufted one, not to be outdone, plopped down right beside her, tucking its head under its wing like it had just decided her thin shadow was the perfect spot for a midday nap.
"You know," she mused, glancing at Gabby, "Pekin ducks aren’t actually native to Scotland. They were originally domesticated in China ages ago before people started bringing them all over the world. Kinda wild that they ended up here, of all places, at a magic school in the middle of the Highlands." She scratched lightly at the base of the smaller duck’s neck, earning a contented wiggle. "Kind of like how it is by happy happenstance that kids like us, all from different places, find their way here and get our feet wet."

Smiles were contagious! So was excitement. Gabby was that type of girl that loved seeing others happy, especially if it was about things she could relate to. For instance.. these ducks! "Yesssssss! My big brother told me a lot about Hogwarts but it's not the same as actually getting to be here and see it all with my own eyes!" Plus, Feliks is only a second year now she he didn't really know all there was to know about things around here. Gabby nodded in understanding. "I don't know how others contain their excitement rather than letting it shine through."
Lookit me with my head in the water and bum in the air!" She giggled, trying her best to 'imitate' a duck. And no, she wasn't at all good it. Impressions weren't at all her thing. Hmm, Gabs tilted her head thoughtfully at Bria's words. "I've never thought about that before but I like it. How simple things would be if we all lived that way." Life would be loads calmer if it was easy to let things go.
Nod nod. "I get it. There's soooooo many places to explore or just sit and relax." It had her wondering now how many spots haven't been found yet. Surely there were hidden ones? Dark brown eyes widened at not only that perfect duck call buuuuuuut at how all the duckies came over! "Whoa! Where did you learn to do that?!" Could she teach her?! Consider this girl highly impressed with it all right now. Bria didn't even do anything and she had a little duck sat on her lap! Gabby shifted around to sit criss-cross and her hands on lap. Maybe if she was quiet one of them would sit on her lap too?
"No I didn't know that about that them. That so cool. Their all a happy little family here now and all of us traveling from all over to here are kinda like a really big family in a way." In the sense that they were all living in the same place. "How do you know so much about Pekin ducks?"

Bria beamed at Gabby's enthusiasm, feeling warmth spread through her chest. She loved meeting people who got just as excited about things as she did - especially when it came to creatures and especially when it wasn't home on the reserve or out in the field with her parents because it was much less an expected result and more a sign from the universe that she was walking down the right path. "Right?! There's just so much to see and do here! I've been trying to explore as much as I can, but I feel like I've barely made a dent. Not to mention that Hogwarts just changes on a whim sometimes, like the castle itself refuses to become stagnant. Dad always raves about the grounds and mum liked the Astronomy Tower a fair bit...also their common rooms buuuuut... I'm in a different house then they were so, just a tad unfortunate."
At Gabby's attempt to mimic a duck, Bria let out a bright, bubbling laugh, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "You certainly encapsulated the spirit of a duck" she clapped. "I think they'd respect the effort." Bria sat up a little straighter, pleased but also a little bashful as she took a couple strands of hair and began twirling them around her fingers. "Oh, it's just something I picked up from my parents," she admitted, scratching at her cheek. "They run a sanctuary for magical creatures, focusing on rehabilitation and release, and I kinda grew up surrounded by birds of all sorts ... chickens, owls, a very opinionated augurey... You get the idea. I suppose I got really good at mimicking calls just from listening to them all day! Mum says I inherited the talent of mimicry from dad - he became fluent in bowtruckle just by listening to them while he was here at Hogwarts." Bria's smile brightened. "I find that the call of our feathered friends comes easiest to me...and since I love birds, I've read a lot about them," she admitted sheepishly. "Plus, we had some Pekins at home for a while! They're actually from China originally, so it's kinda funny to see them all the way here in Scotland. But I guess we're all a long way from home in some way, right? don't remember how we got them, I was too little, but mum told me I used to chase them all the time once I learned to walk," she chuckled, giving the duck in her lap an affectionate little boop on the beak.
