| | |  Professor Hernandez's Hut
Off the edge of the grounds near the border of the Forbidden Forest, Professor Javier Hernandez has taken up post as Groundskeeper. He now spends his off days and evenings in his new hut, relishing in the peace and quiet out on the grounds. To the side of the hut, Javier has started a small garden - mostly common potions ingredients, but he has a few tomato plants there as well. Huge signs at state "NO GNOMES ALLOWED" line the edge of the garden - doesn't hurt to try, right? The wreath on the door also changes depending on the season, which is how he shows his holiday spirit in his own little way.
If you have any questions about potions, this is the place to find your professor. You can also stop by if you notice anything seems off with the grounds - or if you just want to have a cup of tea with your grumpy potions professor. he actually DOES enjoy the company every once in a while, believe it or not. Chances are he's in, so knock on the door and wait patiently for him to answer.

Being that he was now officially a fifth year with little to no recognizable skills in magic of any kind, Edric supposed it was time to approach his Head of House for the dreaded "what do I do with my future" talk. Or something like that.
He'd taken his time approaching and asking for help, doing his best to keep his zoning out problem(s) to himself, and in similar fashion, took his time wandering down to the groundskeeper potion master head of house's hut. He first inspected the little gate and the NO GNOMES ALLOWED sign, pointing to himself in confusion as though asking if it applied to him?? Then he sighed, dragging his feet over to the front door to inspect the seasonal wreath (cute, how cute), before raising his fist and knocking three times.
Maybe he wasn't home!!!! |

He was a bit surprised to see Edric there, however, and gave the young Slytherin a small smile. "Oh, hello Mister Grantham. How can I help you today?" he asked. Please don't be reporting another incident with Peeves....

Ahhhhhhhh so, he WAS home. Edric tried not to wince too visibly.
"It's Cambridge, actually, sir," he politely corrected the man, bobbing on his tippy toes and back down for some reason. He'd shot up like a bean sprout this past summer but was still in the habit of tippy toe walking from time to time. Had to keep the toes limber, he supposed.
Oh right, right, he wasn't here to talk feet. Unless the professor was interested....?
"I need a bit of help," Edric continued, tapping a finger on his chin. "Can I come in?" He was going to invite himself in anyway, leaning foward and peeking around the potions groundskeeper head professor man. "Might be a bit of a convo, ya see, the kind that goes well with tea."

Hint HINT HINT. "Of course, Cambrige, so sorry about that," Javier shoot his head in embarrassment. Why THAT name had popped into his head, when Bernadette hadn't even been in his house in her time at school, was beyond him. How many hours of sleep had he had against last night? Not enough, apparently. "Grading potions essays for hours on end tends to make the wires cross in the brain," he chuckled as he opened the door.
"Ah, yes. Tea. I think I can arrange that," he said with a soft smile as he motioned for Edric to come in. Probably something decaf, though, since the boy was practically bouncing where he stood. Although he had noticed that was just...kind of how he walked. He waved his hand lazily and a kettle started to prepare itself magically over the stove. "Now what's on your mind?" he asked him. And, more importantly, how could HE, Javier, help him?

When Ed saw an opportunity, he took it. And this right here was an opportunity indeed. One, to gain access to his Head of House's Groundskeeping and Potioneering chambers, and two, to shake down the man for some biscuits and tea. Surely they were different biscuits than the house elves provided, yeah? Might even be premium biscuits, being that they WERE all the way out here and surely the Groundsman required ample sustenance after a long day out caring to the... er... grounds and whatnot???
He cleared his throat and entered the hut. "Right, sir, perfectly acceptable mistake." Never mind that he'd never met a Grantham, and Cambridges were all around, but suuuuuure.
He floated in an over to a seat, watching the kettle with interest. "Well, sir, you see, I'm a fifth year, which is a terrible year on account of the exams and all, and I got to thinking about my future, and how I'm not very good at any magic...? And I was wondering what to do with myself, then, after I graduate? Does keeping grounds require any specialized knowledge or advanced study?" The last bit had just come to him just now, as it were, as he looked around the hut and realized it was much bigger on the inside. Wasn't such a bad life, what Hernandez had here. | |

He poured out cups and walked back to where he was seated. "Uh, sugar or anything?" he asked. He usually just drank his tea plain which always made him forget other people didn't...
He raised an eyebrow as he kept talking, sitting down opposite of him. Edric wanted to be Hogwarts groundskeeper? Of all the jobs one could do after Hogwarts, he wanted...this one? Merlin, he didn't have the heart to tell the kid his primary motivation in taking this post had been the appeal of a hut out on the grounds all by himself, away from most people...
"Well," he cleared his throat a bit and then took a sip of his tea. "The good news is, you don't have to have things figured out when you leave here. In fact, you might find yourself working plenty of jobs before you find one that sticks. I worked at the Ministry in between teaching jobs, and when I came here, I wasn't initially groundskeeper," he explained. "I took on the post after I already started. And as for what groundskeeper does...well, it's a lot," he admitted with a chuckle.
"For one, I have to do daily patrols of the grounds," which was honestly his favorite part. An hour alone with his thoughts every day? It was beautiful! "And of course make sure security charms are all in place every day. Basically act as the first line of defense if something goes wrong."

AWWWWW what an absolutely TOUCHING heart to heart between a student and his head of house. WOULD BE A SHAME if someone or something were to come along and RUIN IT!
HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE!
"Don't forget tea for PEEVES!" the poltergeist cackled as he ZIPPED through the Groundskeeper's hut, knocking over some random potion vials he had stacked in the corner and WHOOPING in delight as they smashed to pieces on the ground. "HERE, add some of THIS to it!"
With that, the poltergeist threw a handful of magic at the boy - and one at the grumpy old groundskeeper, just for good measure! THAT WAS FOR THREATENING HIM WITH THE BARON ALLLL TERM! Couldn't the old man have a BIT OF FUN?! SHEESH! He then blew a loud raspberry at the both of them, knocked a few of GRUMPY groundskeeper's books over, before SHRIEKING in delight and ZOOMING out of the hut and off back towards the castle.

"PEEVES!"
Javier stood up and immediately turned his attention as the poltergeist RUDELY broke himself into his hut - this was a step too far! It was one thing to constantly annoy Javier on the grounds he was quite certain he was a bit grayer than he had been at the start of term but to come into his home?!
He stumbled a bit as Peeves sent...something?...his way, hitting him square in the chest with whatever energy he was lobbing around today. Thankfully he didn't feel anything where the spell had connected, so he assumed it was just a harmless Knockback Jinx - and turned his attention back to Edric. He was far more concerned about HIM than himself. Once he made sure Edric was ok, he was going STRAIGHT to the Baron and getting this sorted once and for all.
"Mister Cambridge, are you alright?" he asked, doing a quick glance of the boy - so far, no extra limbs or spontaneous transfiguration into a weasel like animal - so that was a good sign, yes? He sighed and watched as Peeves flew off, no doubt to go cause more havoc on the grounds.
"I swear, that poltergeist is determined to give me a heart attack this t - " he stopped abruptly when he realized - there were BUBBLES coming out of his mouth! He clamped his hand over his mouth in shock. Oh no, no no no no no....

"Oh lots of sugar, yes sir, and milk, please, and biscuits if you have them," Edric answered without much prompting at all. He flashed the groundskeeper a winning grin and did his best to focus on the man as he made the tea. And in the meantime, he sat himself down on the couch.
Mhmm, mhmm, yes, right, odd jobs, worked at the (ew) Ministry... Edric was nodding and trying his best to absorb all the information the (surprisingly helpful) groundskeeper was lobbing his way. He should have brought a bit of parchment or something to write things down on. Ed started patting his pockets for a quill or a pencil... when....
Whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
Peeves.
Edric gasped as he was hit square in the chest by a spell from the poltergeist. He fell over sideways on the couch, but just as the groundskeeper came to check on him, sat up with a sudden gasp, as though he'd just regained life.
"Sir!" he started to say, before he burst out laughing at the bubbles. Ed pointed at one but jolted as a bolt of light shot out of his finger and straight through the bubble. Um, what? Eyes widening, he glanced down at all his fingers. Did he have torches for hands?! Why did it look like his hands were GLOWING as if lit from below?!? WAS HE TRANSPARENT NOW?!
Ed gasped LOUDER, his voice trembling as he spoke up again: "Sir! Did Peeves just turn me into a poltergeist TOO!?"
