A trail of blue bell flames spelled to be clear of remnants of the latest snowfall provided a clear but not too brightly lit path to where the domes normally reside out on the grounds. You never want to distract from the clear night sky that is a welcome blessing for an evening such as this. One such dome has been enlarged to fit many more people than usual and set aside for Professor Gert’s plans for the evening. Blankets and cushions are available to perch on and a table off to the side offers warm beverages enticing after a day of the usual December chill just outside the glass.

Four telescopes have been set in the four cardinal directions on the outskirts of the dome to allow for closer viewing of whatever is on the agenda. You’ll just have to wait and see what that is as everyone gathers and the night sky darkens for better viewing. Professor Gert is there in her human form, standing near the telescope nearest the dome door as if checking last minute touches. The woman cloaked in scarlet robes befitting her former house and perhaps reminding you of the holiday not to far away.

ANYTHING that involved the stars, moon, sun or the Universe in general and Jude was there! His long fascination with Astronomy {his best subject at Hogwarts!} saw to that. Fun fact: this Hufflepuff usually peeked out at the stars before he retired each evening; such a beautiful sight they always made.

With Heating Charms in his clothing, the seventh year made his way out to The Domes, gaze taking in the blue bell flames and the telescopes. The latter only served to make him anticipate the activity even more. “Hi, good evening, professor!” Jude eyed the blankets and cushions. His first instinct? Wanting to make a blanket fort! Those things were his weakness.

Mouse took her sweet time making her way down from the castle to where the domes were located, the blue bell flames and the magical ambience they created giving her a moment of just wanting to enjoy. She'd settled on jeans for the evening, with a vary shades of blue plaid and a bronze vest over it - charmed to provide a little extra warmth than it usually would. The colors were very Mouse, but the style was very Jessie from Toy Story.

Reaching the domes though, was also a site on the inside. Professor Gert had really made the whole thing feel very cozy. Besides, who also didn't like taking a look at the stars in the sky? "Hi Professor!" She chirped, spotting Jude as well and gently bumping her shoulder with his. "Mr. Jude."

Ah yes, the first person to make an appearance wasn’t a surprise at all to Celeste. The seventh year Hufflepuff was one of her best students, truly talented and clearly interested in the subject of Astronomy. Not her favorite though….as years of being a professor had showed her it was best not to try and pick…or label such a student. Instead nurturing all and just being happy with all the ones who give the subject a chance. “Good evening, Mr. Anders,” she returned his greeting with a smile.

“Hello Ms. Durand,” she greeted the slightly younger Ravenclaw as she joined the small party. “Please feel free and enjoy the sights...both of you…it’ll only get better as the evening progresses.” Hint hint. Her experienced eyes had already caught a glimpse of the first small meteor earlier, the ones not so visible as they came before the larger groupings. The astronomy professor only hoped more would take her up on what she was taking a moment and showing off this evening. Though she supposed not everyone was like her and liked both the night and the cold of the winter.

Jude spotted Mouse as she approached but figured he’d be his usual polite self while she greeted the professor. There was this thing where every time he saw her, he automatically thought of Davet. This evening was no different and when she bumped his shoulder, he grinned before bumping her right back. “Ms. Minnie Mouse! Care to hang out with me this evening?” Unless, of course, Mouse had plans. In any case, he was pretty sure that Keigh would be hanging out with Olivia and Charlie.

Professor Gert surely knew how to perk up his interest even further. Jude thought that it would be unfair to ask for more hints about what treat they were in for so he just nodded enthusiastically. “Can’t wait, Professor! I'm just going to go grab some hot cocoa.” With extra marshmallows. This was yet another one of Jude’s weaknesses.

Brandon wasn't used to cold weather yet, and he had 4 layers on: extra warm undershirt, shirt, sweater, and proper jacket. He also had gloves, a hat, a scarf, thick pants, and super warm socks. It was cold to him. Cold and bright. Entering the dome, which was obviously bigger than the others, he immediately grabbed a warm cocoa. Then he sat on one of the pillows with a blanket, not taking up too much physical or social space. "Hi," he said to everybody.

...maybe the scarf, gloves, and hat were overkill. at least in here, where it was warmer than outside. He took them off, and noticed everything in the dome. Jude. Mouse. Human Professor Gert(her default). Telescopes. Coziness.

He found himself looking up at the sky.

While astronomy wasn’t one of Desiree’s best subjects, she couldn’t help but feel a little intrigued when she heard about this activity. Stars were pretty to look at, even if she couldn’t remember all their names and positions, and besides, this would give her something to take her mind off her excitement for the upcoming holidays and her birthday!

Ooh, pretty! Desiree thought as she followed the bluebell flame trail to the domes. The flames matched her outfit, too! She went with a Blue Fairy- inspired ensemble in honor of the starry-themed occasion: a blue dress with a star print, matching leggings, shoes with stars on the toes, white cardigan with embroidered fairy wings on the front, and a blue headband in her hair. “Hello, Professor Gert!” she greeted with a smile and a polite wave. “I like your robes, very Christmas-y!” Would the woman be transforming into an owl again tonight?

Mouse’s outfit likewise got an approving nod from Desiree. “Hi, Mouse!” she said. “Love the outfit! Was there a Disney inspiration?” It sort of gave her Toy Story vibes, more so the style than the color. It needed more red and yellow to accurately match the colors! She smiled, waving at Jude and Brandon. “Hi, Jude and Brandon!”

Another nighttime outdoor activity… Norman was sensing a pattern here! While he still wasn’t one for big social events, this one seemed more his speed than the creature sleep out. He was no slouch when it came to astronomy! His bluish-green eyes scanned the area as he arrived, taking in the cushions, blankets, and telescopes, He had to admit, those beverages looked awfully tempting, but he’d hold off for now… at least until the students had their fill.

“Good evening, all,” he greeted his colleague (Celeste) and the students alike, nodding to each person in turn. He stood to one side, glancing up at the sky. “Nice night for stargazing,” he remarked offhandedly.

"Thank you, Professor!" The Ravenclaw responded, smiling at the invitation to just enjoy themselves. She glanced up at the sky and thought she saw a shooting star, which of course just sent her humming softly, before attention turned back towards Jude. "I would be beyond honored to hang out with you this evening. Can I join you for that hot cocoa?" Because warm chocolately goodness certainly sounded like a winner in her book.

The other entrances as well got her attention for a moment, heading turning to send a smile as Brandon joined them, "Hi Brandon!" and then soon followed by Desiree and Professor Carton. "Hello, sir." She greeted Carton first, knowing she'd certainly take longer and have more to say to Desiree. Though most importantly first, she had to survey tonight's look - which was stunning! "You look great! Certainly well dressed for the occasion!" She loved it! As for her own? "Loosely tonight. The style was influenced by Jessie from Toy Story, but I went with my favorite colors instead of the traditional." Red and yellow was only tolerable to her for the sake of Belle.

This activity had sounded intriguing, and Kayla didn't have any other plans for tonight, so she dressed warmly, Hufflepuff scarf wrapped around her neck, and made her way down to the designated area on the grounds. She had even decided to paint her nails for the occasion, a dark midnight blue with an assortment of small white dots for the stars.

Following the pretty bluebell flames, she found the larger dome easily, appreciating the warmth of the room as she entered. There were a few students here already, along with Professors Gert and Carton. "Good evening, everyone," she said with a smile, before heading over to the beverages table. That hot cocoa was impossible to resist.

More arrivals! This was going to be so much fun! Then again, it was going to be this way even without the crowd. “Hi, Bradon and Desiree! Hi, Professor Carton! Hi, Kayla!’’ Yes, Jude would greet the entire Hogwarts if he had to; this was how excited he was to be here this evening.

He grinned at Mouse, extending his arm to her in a gentlemanly fashion. “Of course you may!” As if he’d ever refuse her. “Your cousin started my hot cocoa addiction, by the way.” The Hufflepuff led the Ravenclaw over to the goodies to begin prepping himself a mug. “The extra marshmallow thing is my doing though.” Jude was delighted to see that there were marshmallows in the shapes of moons and stars. How perfect given what everyone was gathered here for!

Raj was all for outdoor activities, regardless of whether or not creatures were involved. And he had made the promise to his dads to keep to the fun things as much as the studying he was doing outside of classes. So he had thrown his cloak over his clothes, tied his house scarf around his neck and made it down to the grounds following the helpful flames that led the way. There was definitely a chill in the air for late December but thankfully he found they were outside but also INSIDE one of the domes. A happy medium to better enjoy the evening.

“Good evening, Professor Gert,” he greeted the astronomy professor first as it was her gathering then noticing his head of house was also there. “Hello Professor Carton.” Taking in his surroundings, Rajesh thought he noticed something falling outside over the shoulders of the adults. “So what’s the surprise?” he mused curiously.

It appeared her news of interesting happenings had only excited the seventh year further. Thankfully he wouldn’t have to wait much longer, a glance at her watch telling her so as long as her notations were accurate. “Of course,” Celeste said with a nod as he took his leave for some hot chocolate. Ah there was the young Mr. Fox joining the group and partaking in the goodies that the house elves had helped her prepare. “Hello Mr. Fox.” Hopefully the warmth of the dome would be enough for the young boy who seemed completely bundled up.

Oh goodie they were getting more and more people to join the gathering. “Hello, Ms. Marchand,” she said returning the girl’s greeting and smiling at the compliment. “Why thank you,” Celeste remarked. “You look very pretty yourself.” And look. Well…well…well, a certain transfiguration professor had decided to join them as well. “Guid evening, Norman,” the astronomy professor greeted her colleague before nodding. “Aye…that it is…and nearly time for the best part.”

Was it just her or were the Hufflepuffs greatly outnumbering the other houses. Maybe it was the out of doors. “Guid evening, Ms. Cloud,” she greeted the sixth year in return. No look…another one of Carton’s own house, the seventh year earning a smile. “Guid evening Mr. Atreyu-Rehman,” she greeted before adding, “You’ll see…”

Because it was probably about time she drop the mystery. The astronomy professor moved into he center of the dome to gather everyone’s attention. “Welcome! I’m sure you all are curious as to why I planned this gathering,” she began, her voiced raised to the tone she used when teaching. “Well, its because this year…this month…this week lined up on the astronomical calendar for a treat. “ She had been quite pleased when she had been setting up her lesson plans for the year and realized this information, knowing from the get-go she had to share it with her students.

“If ye look aloft, particularly in the direction ye find Ursa Minor,” she instructed, pointing to the north where the constellation was currently situated, “ye will begin to see the Ursid Meteor shower.”

Hope was still out of breath from running out to class this evening, but thanks to her hand-knitted sweaters, socks, and mittens, she was toasty warm. She greeted the professor and a few fellow students and then settled into place to listen to what the teacher had to say. Ursa Minor--that was the little bear, wasn't it...Hope cocked her head from one side to the other, widened her eyes and then squinted them. No, it didn't look much like a bear to her. Hope's father used to name the stars for them at home and Hope had never been able to see the shapes of the mythic creatures in those constellations of stars. Maybe she just wasn't looking from the right angle.

But--what was that? A meteor shower! Now that was exciting--Hope was quite sure she would be able to make that out.

The Hufflepuff who joined was not someone Mouse knew well, but that didn't not stop her from still giving a wide smile and a wave the girl's direction, "Evening." It really was a perfect night for such an occassion. And the new Ravenclaw was really loving these bonding type events being held in the evenings by the Professors. The CoMC one had been just as fun and she expected stargazing would too!

Seeing Jude extend his arm, she laughed softly before looping hers through his and following along after him. The information that it was Davet who had influenced love of chocolate beverages just got a fond eye roll from her as her smile softened. "I'm not even remotely surprised. He's been like that since we were kids. When we used to celebrate Christmas together, Davet would always disappear before dinner and we'd find him tucked underneath the table with just... this giant cup of chocolate goo. He put so much of the powdered stuff into it." She giggled at the memory. Letting go of Jude, she took a cup as well and began to start putting hers together too. "I was always a white chocolate cocoa girl with some whipped cream." And while she didn't have the white cocoa powder, she did see some cream that she squirted on the top of her cup before taking a sip - effectively getting it on her nose and burning her mouth a bit in the process. "Marshmallows, and a mountain of them, are always a good choice too."

Raj's arrival and another younger Puff got another smile and wave from her, but then her attention was turning up towards the sky. She had been hoping there would be more of the potential lone shooting star she thought she saw, but the information still got her all excited and as giddy as a kid all over again. Eyes roamed over the sky, before she leaned towards Jude, "Am I looking the right direction?"

Brandon mostly kept to himself in the socializing, though he ended up next to Professor Carton and decided to stick next to him. "It's the perfect night for stargazing," he said quietly in response to the professor's comment, just as Professor Gert began to talk about special astronomy moments. He didn't know that it was a special night. He just had a feeling.

He looked up at the sky, finding the little dipper and the shape of a bear in the sky. A meteor shower? He wanted to see! He watched intently as the shooting stars began to fall. "Is the Ursid Meteor shower a big one? How often does it happen?" He had all the questions.

From the space of time that Jude fell for Davet in August {even though he hadn’t figured it out as yet} to now, Jude had spent an increasing amount of time talking about Dav to Keighley and to Mouse. With Mouse though, there were always stories about his boyfriend that regaled him. The current one made him chuckle. “He’s always certain of what he likes and not afraid to let everyone know. Was his hair as messy back then as it is now?” The Hufflepuff busied himself with doling out the marshmallows strategically atop the generous amount of whipped cream. He peeked over at his friend then started laughing at the vision before him. “You have some cream on your nose. Right on the tip.” Jude held out a napkin for her. “White cocoa is great, as great as white chocolate is! Maybe I’ll make myself one of those after I polish off this.” A tap on the mug indicated what he meant.

And they were getting started! Anyone would have thought that Jude couldn’t have gotten any happier but he did! And with good reason too for… METEOR SHOWER

Those were as pretty as Earthrises were! In his opinion, Earthrises were better than sunrises and sunsets. But that was just his opinion.

Okay…

So first they needed to find the ‘Little Bear’ - the constellation that housed Polaris. It was pretty easy to do. “Yes, you are,’’ the seventh year confirmed to Mouse. “Just… a little more to your left.” He raised a hand to try to shift her gaze. “It can easily be found since it houses one of the brightest stars - Polaris or the North Star.” Already he had located Polaris, lyrics to an old Muggle song in his mind:

I get lost in the world sometimes, star-crossed, looking out for a light. But it won't shine so North Star come and guide me to you

“You found Polaris, Minnie Mouse? Once you do, you know you're looking at the Ursa Minor, even if its in a general point of view.”

Professor Gert watched as the attention of the group turned mostly in the direction she had motioned. Ms Durand was on the right track, Mr Anders perfectly capable of assisting his fellow upperclassman so she turned her attention more to the first year eagle. The woman coming up beside her with a friendly smile. “Good evening, Ms. Archard,” she returned the girl’s earlier greeting. “The easiest way to find Ursa Minor is find the brightest star to the north which is Polaris,” she instructed, echoing the Hufflepuff’s words. “Polaris will be the tail of the bear with the ‘Little Dipper’ of the rest of the constellation making up the body.”

Ah there were questions that she could and would answer gladly. “They are an annual event…usually happening at times between the 17th and 26th of December here in Scotland,” she answered Mr. Fox. Down in Portugal where her parents had retired to it shifted ever so slightly earlier. “My husband once teased our son that they were a present for his birthday seeing as the peak tends to be around the 24th/25th and his birthday is Christmas.” She couldn’t help chuckling at the memory of the instance.

“And the Ursid meteor shower is actually one of the smaller meteor showers,” the astronomy professor admitted. “But is also the meteor shower that lined up well with timing and weather for seeing it. The Leonids for example, is much larger and were at the end of November, however very much in the middle of the night and early morning and we had a bit of snowfall during its peak moments.” Celeste could only imagine the reaction she would have gotten from both staff and students if she had tried to trudge them out during that mess of things.

Well perhaps Mr. Anders wouldn’t have minded.

"Most are on the smaller side but there should be upwards of 10 or so meteors an hour that are of decent size to be seen by eye. Though the telescopes are set up in case you would like assistance in catch one."

Hope was glad the professor volunteered the help and saved her from having to ask embarrassing questions that might reveal her cluelessness. Hmmm....Polaris--that was the North Star, wasn't it? Hope turned to the north (that was a quarter-turn clockwise from where the sun had set]--okay, she thought she had it! And...the little dipper did look sort of like a dipper, so..she guessed that was it (she still didn't think it looked like a bear, though)

If there was one thing Mouse was full of, it was stories of her times with her cousin when they'd been small. And she liked sharing them - especially with someone who cared so much about Davet as Jude clearly did. She quite liked them as a pair, liked seeing them both happy. "He's an open book. Which is ironic considering he's an actor but... when he's not playing a role, Davet is just 100% who he is. I was always kind of jealous of that." He wasn't afraid to show his own emotions. But Mouse? She preferred to let people see surface level Minerva Adela Durand and no further. Further meant vulnerability and that made her feel icky. Apparently she hadn't really learned everything from Disney movies. She laughed at the question, glad for it's distraction and nodded. "Almost always. My aunt loves it like that. But Davet was so mad about how much it got in his way when he was 9, he convinced sweet impressionable 7 year old me to cut it all off." Ohhh the trouble they'd gotten into over that one. But she smiled fondly about it now.

Accepting the napkin with a laugh, she wiped at her nose before taking another sip only to cause the same issue which was again immediately fixed. "I hope that means we're gorging ourselves on hot chocolate this evening." She smiled teasingly at him before attention once again on the sky as she listed to Professor Gert's explanation. Smaller meteor shower or not, she was just excited to be seeing any.

Hearing Jude's instructions, she followed what he said - then easily spotting the area and seeing another splash across the sky. "Oooh, going to make a wish?" Shooting stars were meteors right? Hearing the mention of telescopes, eyes averted from the sky to where they were set up and she gave a nod of her head in that direction. "Should we go try one?"

Yes, Jude cared a ton about Davet. No, two tonnes. Three? A zillion! No, no, it was an infinite number of tonnes. “I hadn’t thought of him in that way.” There was actually surprise written on his face too. “I mean, I’ve always seen the genuine side of him from the first time we officially met.” Jude hadn’t known any other side of his boyfriend but the kind, lovable and funny side. In any case, Davet hadn’t a single stand of bad DNA in him. So yes, it was very ironic. “Do you mean today you sometimes hide the real you?” he asked half jokingly, half seriously. "You're perfectly safe with me in all the ways, you know." Wait. “Whaaaat?!” Jude laughed heartily. “Oh, man! You actually went along with it?” It was hilarious to picture a little Dav and a little Mouse getting into that sort of mischief. “As long as you guys don’t conspire to do something like that again, we’ll all be fine.” This was meant to let Mouse know how much he adored Davet’s hair; Dav himself already was aware of the fact. Ahem.

“We are,’’ Jude replied happily. “We’ll get high on sugar rush and then crash in a cascade of regrets a few hours later.” What a great plan! And what a great person to be his sugar-rush buddy!

Jude kept his gaze fixed on Polaris and its nearby surroundings. Smaller meteor shower or not, this one was going to be SPECTACULAR! The Hufflepuff still thought it was rather dope of Professor Gert to have arranged this activity though he almost sputtered out an indignant protest about missing the Leonid Meteor shower. He settled for a simple, “I would not have minded, Professor.”

The seventh year thought about Mouse’s question. He had everything he wanted: a wonderful family, a great bestie and awesome friends and the most supportive boyfriend. Maybe he could make a wish for them instead. Yes, he’d go with that! “We can give it a shot! Also, would you want to use one of the telescopes?”

“Ah look…there is one!” Celeste made sure to announce it though if they were still looking in the direction of Ursa Minor they wouldn’t have needed it. There was the sight of a streak along the sky that was definitely noticeable. “It may appear to be going slowly, though it is actually moving quite fast given it is so far away from us.”

As for Ms. Archard’s question…” Actually they are. Ye see a meteor shower happens when the earth passes through comet tails in its rotation around the sun. The ones you actually see…are the ones that are falling to earth in the process and burning up in the earth’s atmosphere, hence the lighted streak you see. But not to worry…most of those are either completely consumed are really really small when they fall to earth and not a danger. Though occasionally there will be reports of those larger ones found out in a field or even rarer hitting buildings.” Nothing they were in danger of tonight as usually something of those size gave some warning of its path and nothing had been seen either by her or reported by the Royal Astronomers.

Now see…she had predicted correctly that Jude wouldn’t have an issue and sort of felt bad she hadn’t offered the option even for a smaller interested group. “Well perhaps we shall see about the Quadrantids after the holidays,” she mused, thinking of another larger but later meteor shower happening in the early half of January. Perhaps the weather might hold out for another expedition. There was always the Eta Aquariids in May which were a more medium sized shower though she supposed that was more crunch time for certain exhaustive exams.

And unless she was very much mistaken…another streak might be starting a bit further out.

He was glad he hadn’t missed it. Rajesh waved back to Mouse as he made his way further inside, surveying the goodies before making some hot chocolate for himself. His attention drifting towards the north where the constellation in question was located. Yep, there was the Little Bear, something he could always find when it was clear at home, the sky quite open over the reserve. The seventh year was continuing towards his friends when Professor Gert had spoken once more clearly excited, the sighting of their first clear meteor quite clear as he looked back up.

WOW!

“Almost like a dragon’s spray of fire,” he mused coming up beside Mouse and Jude with a smile.

Hmm...that was reassuring, somewhat. But the Professor must know what she was talking about, and wouldn't bring them out here if it was dangerous, so Hope relaxed back and continued looking up. Oh--there! Yes, there was one---and another!! "Oh, I see them!!!" she exclaimed excitedly. Actually, it would be rather fine to find a really small meteor rock--maybe she'd look around here after the shower was over. "There was an old woman back in my home village who had a small rock she'd found. She claimed it was from a meteor, a "sky-rock" she called it, and she wore it around her neck for good luck."

She wasn't surprised Jude hadn't seen him that way, despite the fact the Hufflepuff clearly was. His chosen profession made it really hard to jump to how genuine her cousin was. How could someone who literally chose to become someone else in their work, also end up being so sincere? He was an oxymoron, her cousin. But that's what was one of the things that she loved about him. Though she was very much biased. Davet was the closest thing she'd had to a sibling until Rosie she supposed. At the question she just grinned at him, deciding to focus on the joking part of his question. "I'd tell you, but then I'd have to poison your apple." She giggled, before getting a little more serious and giving a nod. "I know I am. It's not about that." It was hard for her to explain, but it had nothing to do with distrust of anyone else. The only person that she knew was going to judge her, was herself. "Oh you should have HEARD the scolding we got. I didn't know my sweet, quiet aunt could get so loud." It would have been nice if she'd already been magic and could have just... fixed it. Maybe it would be a fun prank to play now on her family - once they all knew anyways.

"Regret? Never heard of her." She teased, taking another sip of her hot cocoa and giving a grateful sigh. It was delicious - chocolate always hit the spot, especially on a cold night.

As for her own wish? She wasn't quite sure if there was anything she truly wanted right now. She was not Charlotte Labeuf and had no need of asking for a Prince - even if she wasn't opposed to the idea of dating. Though perhaps she should wish for the ability to be more open on her own feelings? She was never going to get anywhere with anyone if she didn't. But... that could be a problem for another time. There wasn't any rush. As for telescopes? "Absolutely! I'd love to get a closer look." The view with the naked eye was beautiful, but she was a girl that liked detail.

Hearing Raj, her head turned a bit and she smiled in greeting as he joined her and Jude, a small laugh at his comment. "That is something you'd be familiar with, isn't it?" But she liked the comparison too. Putting additional imagery to a sight was poetic in it's own way. "We were just talking about trying to wish on them. You have any wishes Atreyu-Rehman?"

Ugh. Jude and Mouse could be biased by that perfect guy together. Jude knew already that he couldn’t see his life with Dav being in it so he was perfectly happy to be biased for as long as he lived. There was yet another laugh from him; he really loved Mouse’s Disney references and he thanked the stars that he was able to understand them all. As for her being reluctant to open up, well… that was understandable. If not to him, then he hoped Mouse be okay enough with discussing all the things that bothered her with Davet. Jude would still be here if she ever needed him. “Hang on. Cosette Durand? As in Davet’s maman???” No, impossible. Davet’s maman, whom he had come to love SO much, was a quiet and gentle soul.

The Hufflepuff snorted. “Sounds like a challenge. It’s on, Minnie Mouse!” Loads and loads of cups of hot chocolate for them this evening then!

“I’ll be holding you to that, professor,’’ the seventh year said, grinning. Maybe he’d even show up to her office sometime to remind her. Would that be considered stalking? Oops.

Then Raj joined them and Jude was agreeing with Mouse about Raj knowing all about a dragon’s firey breath. One did not spend a whole lot of the previous summer giving Bryony Paton dance lessons without the young cousin going on and on about Raj’s brother and the dragons and hippogriffs.That girl was obsessed with Aryan. “And do you want to join us at a telescope?” Jude was already bustling towards one because the shower was starting. He was actually walking backwards to the thing because his gaze was fixed upwards, his face glowing with excitement about the meteor that zipped across the sky.

Jude was so happy, so at peace in this moment that nothing {except maybe for the certain insecurities that plagued him every once in a while} could alter his mood.

Brandon didn't always talk. But he always listened. He listened, to the directions on how to find the right stars(he'd found them), to the professor's cute family story(cute family stories always made him jealous, but he thought it was cute anyway), to various conversations going on, to the answer to his question. "Can we watch meteor showers every year?" He'd certainly enjoy it. Were the Leonids also every year? "Can we try to see the Leonids next year?" Brandon talked the most when he had questions. He had questions now. He liked watching these... it felt special. Sure, they happened every year, but he hadn't seen many of them before. Only once or twice in hiw whole life, which was disappointing.

Brandon watched one meteor slowly streak across the sky. He liked that it was going 'slowly', because it meant he could clearly track it across the sky. He drew a little shooting star in his astronomy notebook, which he had conveniently brought to take notes. "I'd love to see the 'Quadrantids'. I'd love to see as many of these as possible," he commented earnestly. This was exciting! He moved to a telescope, looking through it to see if he could see a smaller meteor that was invisible to the eye. "What would happen if a really big one came down? Would it be like the dinosaurs again, or could it be deflected?" He hesitated. "Not that I expect that." He did have a bit of a reputation for constant worrying. He only worried about present things. And past things, and future things. He didn't worry about this.

Celeste listened as she started hearing students confirm that they were seeing what she was pointing out. First Raj and his comment about dragon’s fire…than Ms. Archard and her excited exclamation. “Not an uncommon action,” the professor confirmed the girl’s story. “And its certainly lucky if you don’t get hit by it,” she mused with a chuckle. And then a certain 7th year Hufflepuff made a remark alerting her that he had in fact heard her comment about the Quadrantids. “Duly noted, Mr. Anders,” Celeste assured him. As long as he didn’t camp out by her office or up in the astronomy tower until she complied they were a-okay.

Now that was an interesting image that might raise comment.

Ah, Mr. Fox would also be interested in trying to see the Quadrantids. “Then we shall see how the weather holds.” That would of course be the first detriment to any sort of observation of the future event. One could only hope it was nice and clear. And a big meteor like the one with the dinosaurs….that was a question to make one think. “There could be a large one like that….however between both the muggle and wizarding world astronomers, something that would be big enough to cause such a threat would definitely be predicted and observed ahead of time and I do believe the muggles have ways to take care of it.” Hopeful that would keep any dark thoughts on the matter at bay. She wouldn’t want any fears and nightmares of earth shattering meteors.

“Quite a bit,” Rajesh confirmed, smiling at her laughter. “The joke is that is a good thing that Dad is a potioner so Papa is well stocked with burn salve…just in case.” Sure there were incidents of all sorts that were bound to happen, but they still did their best to avoid what they could. As for his wish…“I wouldn’t mind a favorable end to the term,” he offered, though he wasn’t going to say the actual wish aloud lest he ruin his chances of it actually come through. Plus, one would interpret what he said in more than one way, though his main attention was on his NEWTs.

“Sure…has to be just as cool in larger scale.”
