Gringotts Wizarding Bank Rules

General Information All fan works here at SnitchSeeker MUST be Harry Potter related. If you're not sure if your fan works idea is appropriate, PM a Fan Fiction Moderator or an Administrator. All stories and comments must follow SS Board Rules at all times.

If you have ANY questions at all, please feel free to ask in the Q&A thread or PM a Fan Fiction Moderator.

Ratings
All fan works on SnitchSeeker MUST contain a rating in the title.

pSa - Intended for preschool level and younger children between the ages of 1 and 4; free of any coarse language, violence, adult themes and ideas very young children cannot comprehend.

Sa5+ - Content intended for general audience 5 years and older; free of any coarse language, violence, and adult themes. Zero detail on nasty hexes, zero detail on Crucio and zero romance beyond holding hands.

Sa9+ - Some content not suitable for young children; Suitable for more mature childen, 9 years and older, with minor action violence without serious injury but free of any coarse language. Should not contain any adult themes. Wizards can duel and use unforgivables, but don't go into detail about the effects of Crucio or any nasty hexes. Hand-holding, friendly embraces, flirtatious looks and brief kisses on the cheek or pecks on the lips are okay, but nothing beyond that, romantically.

Sa13+ - Contains content not suitable for children; Suitable for teens, 13 years and older, with some violence, and minor suggestive adult themes but free of any coarse language. Wizards can duel and use unforgivables, but don't go into detail about the effects of any nasty hexes like Sectumsempra. Hand-holding, romantic embraces, flirting and brief kisses on the cheek or the lips are okay, but nothing beyond that, romantically.

For the High Security Vaults only:
Sa16+ - Contains content suitable for mature teens and older; Not suitable for children or teens below the age of 16 with possible strong but non-explicit adult themes (depression, suicide, cutting, mild mention of alcohol or drugs) and references to violence (detailed description of unforgivables, and minor description of hexes such as Sectumsempra), but free of any coarse language. Hand-holding, romantic embraces, flirting, brief kisses on the cheek or the lips are okay, minor snogging sessions but no sexual touching or explicit bedroom scenes.

Not allowed anywhere on SnitchSeeker, EVER:
Sa18+ - Contains explicit content for mature adults only; Content is only suitable for mature adults 18 years or older. Contains explicit language, sex, violence and adult themes. If you're describing your characters in sexual scenes, using profanity, explicitly using drugs or alcohol, describing Sectumsempra in detail or roasting them alive with a flame curse of some kind, you've gone way too far. Stories of this rating are forbidden on SnitchSeeker.

Inappropriate Topics
Fan fiction stories and poetry containing explicit language, sex, violence and adult themes are forbidden on SnitchSeeker. If you're describing your characters in sexual scenes, using profanity, explicitly using drugs or alcohol, describing Sectumsempra in detail or roasting them alive with a flame curse of some kind, you've gone way too far.

Plagiarism
Plagiarism is not allowed in any fan work on SnitchSeeker. What is plagiarism? It's when you use another person's work (words, ideas) and forget to give proper reference to who it belongs to. This is why you MUST give credit when using song lyrics from a recording artist, and even crediting J.K. Rowling when starting a fan fiction story that incorporates characters she created. What if you use a familiar scene or lines from one of the books? Give proper credit at the beginning of your post.

Anyone who is found to be guilty of plagiarism will receive an automatic SnitchSeeker infraction that will not expire. Repeat offenders will be permanently banned from the site.

Graphics
Fancy story banners are welcome at the top of your poetry, fan fiction story, or even within each chapter. All header images cannot exceed the 450 pixels in width and the 200 pixels in height. The maximum file size allowed is 60 kb (61,444 bytes).

Graphics must be your own, or you must have acquired permission for use. All graphics must follow SS Board rules.

Direct linking or "hot linking" is not allowed. Direct linking is the use of bandwidth from another site without permission by directly using their server to post images.

Common Courtesy

Other members are allowed to give you constructive criticism. They may assist you with correct spelling and grammar suggestions in your fan fiction story or poem, and by asking questions regarding plot. These suggestions should be made kindly. If someone insults you or your story or is otherwise rude in your thread, contact a Fan Fiction Moderator immediately.

If you are commenting on someone else's thread, please be diplomatic and kind always. Keep in mind that some members may not want a lot of help and if they give a hint that they don't then please just back off. Always remember the Golden Rule: Treat others the way you want to be treated.

You must never make rude comments or harass SS members about or in their fan fiction story or poetry thread. If you don't like a story or poem, don't comment at all. If you don't have something nice to say, refrain from posting. Do not harass a writer to update his/her fan fiction story or poem. He/she will update at his/her own speed, not because you ask or demand it.

Any rude comment or criticism in a person's fan fiction or poetry thread will be deleted, and you will be PMed by an Administrator or Moderator about your comment. This could also result in a warning or suspension, depending on severity.

If you wish to discontinue your story, send a Fan Fiction Moderator a PM and ask them to delete the thread. You can also make this request in the Request Thread
.

Spam
Do NOT spam in any fan fiction thread, including your own. Spam includes posting PAMS and a bunch of smilies without providing any comments about the story. It just isn't right, and brings people off the subject of the story. If we see load of pointless spam in a thread, we will ask the offending member to stop and issue an official SnitchSeeker warning, or we'll just delete it and ask you to start another thread. If you really like a story, say so in one post after each update, not six times in a row within 5 minutes. If you wish to add more comments after posting, edit your post rather than posting again. If you want to add more comments, you might want to leave the author VMs or even send a PM expressing how much you love their story.

Advertising
Please do not advertise your fan fiction story in someone else’s story. As much as you want to, don’t. This also applies to advertising in PMs and VMs. You should provide links in your own signature if you wish to draw attention to your own stories.

Finished Fan Works
When you finish your fan fiction story or poem, please include the phrase “The End” at the end of your last chapter post or as the title of your last post. This will tell readers that your story has finished. Two months after you finish your story, a Fan Fiction Moderator will move it to the Finished Fan Works Vault.

Either as you post your story or once your fan fiction story or poetry is finished, please go through it and find all of the posts. Put links in your first post to each story/poem post, in order; this is a courtesy to those members who wish to read your story/poem and not have to sift through all of the comments.

Inactive Fan Works
If your fan fiction story or poem is not updated within two (2) months of your last update, it will be moved to the Inactive Fan Works Vault. After this happens, a Fan Fiction Moderator will notify you of this move via PM.

If your story or poem is in the Inactive Fan Works Vault and you’d like for it to be reactivated, please send one of the Fan Fiction Moderators a PM with this request. In your message please include a link to your story and tell us which section it belongs in (Regular Vaults, High Security Vaults, SSRPG Vault, Script Crypt).

Fan works in the Inactive Fan Works Vault will be deleted after four (4) months of being moved to this section. Prior to deletion, a Fan Fiction Moderator will make contact with you and ask if you want the story saved or not. If you do not respond to the PM within one week, your story will be deleted.

IC Books
We're very excited to combine two of our favorite parts of the site: the RPG and our FanFiction section. IC Books are writing projects that are written from the voice and perspective of a fictional RP character, and they can be referenced within the school, Diagon Alley, and Ministry of Magic RPGs.

There are two sections of our FanFiction section that provide opportunities for IC Books. Our Copyright Office of published works.

The other section for IC Books is our SSRPG Vault forum. Along with stories about your character, this section now houses stories written by one of your character. Fiction, history, texts, opinion pieces, travelogues, collections of stories... any book that fits with RPG canon and meets SS rules can be worked on within our SSRPG forum.

Submitting a Fan Work

Step By Step Instructions
1. First, write your fan work (story or poem) in MS Word or another word processor (remember to use the spelling and grammar check). Save your work before posting it to SnitchSeeker.
2. Go to the subforum where you want to post your story or poem.
3. Click ‘New Thread’ button in that subforum. This will open the window that will have the title ‘Post New Thread’ in the upper left corner.

4. From the drop down Prefix menu, select the genre of your story or poem.

5. In the title box, type the name of your story or poem.

Make sure you include the rating for your fan work (every fan work MUST have a rating in the title – no exceptions!) For example, the correct format for your fan work title is My Awesome Fan Work – Sa13+.
  • Not sure of what rating to use? Please refer to the ratings guide located in the first post.
  • If you decided your fan work will be mature enough to warrant a Sa16+ rating, you must post it in the The High Security Vaults (Mature Fan Fics) regardless of genre.

6. Copy and paste your fan work into the large message area. Take a few minutes to check the following:
  • Did you select a genre?
  • Did you include a rating at the end of your fan work title?
  • Did you include a disclaimer at the beginning of your fan work?
  • If you included a banner, does it meet the graphics requirements?
  • If you're submitting a drabble/ficlet to the SS50/100, did you include the first drabble/ficlet?
  • Did you double-check your spelling, grammar, and punctuation?

7. If you answered ‘Yes’ to all of these, then click ‘Preview Post’ so that you can see what your fan work will look like.

8. After previewing your post, click ‘Submit New Thread.’

9. The new thread will then go to the Moderator Control Panel, where a Fan Fiction Moderator will check it the next time they go in there. If it complies with the site and Gringotts rules, we will validate it for you, and it will appear on the list of threads in the forum in which you posted. Posting your story more than once will not speed up the process!

10. If your story isn’t approved, you will receive a PM from a Fan Fiction Moderator explaining the reasons why it was declined.

11. Once your thread has reached the forum, you may post new chapters in it by clicking "Post new reply" and pasting your finished work into the reply field and clicking "Submit". Your readers will also comment in this thread.

Tagging a Thread

What are tags?
Tags are a useful way to search for threads with similar subject matter and content. This complements the normal search system, which searches only for certain words or phrases and/or posts by specific users.

To add a tag to a fan work, scroll down to the bottom of the thread. Just above the quick reply box, there will be a box that will say ‘Tags’ in the upper left hand corner. On the right side of this box are the words ‘Edit Tags’ – click on this.
  • This will open the tag box
  • In the box, type the name of the tag you wish to add and click ‘add tag.’
  • The tag icon will then appear.
  • You can tag a fan work with up to 25 separate tags.

Tag Cloud
The Tag Cloud is a listing of the most popular thread tags. Click on one of the words, and every thread tagged with that word will appear on the next screen. You can also perform a search by tag.

Benefits of Tagging a Thread
Tagging a thread makes it easier for someone to find what they’re looking for. Let’s say you wanted to read a fan work about Scorpius Malfoy – all you would need to do was go to the drop down menu for ‘Search’ and click on ‘Tag Search’. This will open the Tag Cloud.

Rating a Thread

Rating Stars
The stars that you see next to different fan works are the Rating Stars. The forums allow you to rate threads between 1 star (terrible) and 5 stars (excellent). Once enough votes are cast for a thread, stars will appear next to its name in the listings. These show the average vote, and can be an easy way to see which threads are worth reading if you are on a busy forum.

On the forum viewing page you can also arrange threads by rating, with either the highest or lowest at the top.

It therefore makes sense to rate threads because it helps all users. To do this, click on the 'rate thread' link at the top of the thread viewing page. Choose the number of stars you feel best represents the quality of the thread. You may not be able to change your choice of rating at a later date.

Gringotts Wizarding Bank FAQ
For a more complete list of answered questions, visit the Questions and Answers Thread.

What if I go on vacation and I have a fan work to be taken care of?
PM a Fan Fiction Moderator or make a post in your fan work thread that you will be on vacation or leave for a while. Providing dates of absence is helpful!

What happens if someone starts a chat in my fan work thread but I had no say in this?
Just PM a Fan Fiction Moderator and they will take care of it. You will not be held responsible if you didn’t start the chat and it was against your knowledge.

What if my fan work is like someone else’s and they accuse me of stealing their idea?
Many fan works will have some similarities to others. It is very important that you make sure that your story is 100% original and that you didn’t get your idea from some fan work that you happened to stumble upon. If this does occur then just PM a Fan Fiction Moderator regarding the situation and he/she will take care of it.

How long does it take to validate a new fan work thread?
It depends - there are many Fan Fiction Moderators that are working hard. Validation shouldn’t take long. It may vary from a couple hours to a couple days.

How can I tell if my fan work was approved or not?
The quickest way is to view your profile and click on "Find all threads started by <your username>". If it was validated, you'll see your thread in the search results. If your story wasn't approved, you should have received a PM from a Fan Fiction Moderator who would have explained the reasons why your fan work wasn't approved.

What if my fan work is in the wrong section?
Just PM a Fan Fiction Moderator and tell him/her where it's located, what the title is, provide a link and tell him/her where you would like it moved.

My fan work was moved to the Inactive Fan Works Vault. How do I reactivate it?
Politely PM a Fan Fiction Moderator and ask for your story to be reactivated. In your message, please provide the link to your story and where the story should be moved to. Another option is to provide the same information in the Request Thread located in the Gringotts Lobby.

What if my fan work has a little cursing in it?
It will not be validated, as a general rule, if there is any profanity or cursing and a warning will be issued. On occasion, a Fan Fiction Moderator will change the offending word to something more appropriate if he/she feels the story otherwise deserves to be validated. Some of us will substitute the goofiest words we can think of, so don't break this rule or you'll probably be disappointed with your post.

Does my fan work for the SS-50/100 have to have a prefix?
Yes. All fan works published on SnitchSeeker must have a prefix.

Do I have to include my first story in my fan work for the SS-50/100?
Yes. All fan works in the SS-50/100 must contain a list of topics and the first story all in the first post.

Do I really have to include a rating for my fan work?
Yes. All fan works (stories, drabbles, poems) MUST have a rating included in the title.

What if I can't locate where my fan work is, or anyone's at that?
Just use the search options located in the drop box menu at the top of the page (or from the forum jump at the bottom of the page). Or you can ask a Fan Fiction Moderator for help. Members in the "Newbie" member group cannot view fan works.

I finished my story/poem, what should I do now?
You should ask for it to be moved to the Finished Fan Works Vault. You can do this by PM-ing a Fan Fiction Moderator or by using the Request Thread, which is a thread specificly for asking for Mod action of any kind on a thread.

I want to put the link of my fan work in my siggy. How do I do that?
Go to the SUBMIT YOUR SIGNATURE HERE topic, located in Scribbulus Everchanging Inks. Be sure to read all the rules and be patient.

When is sorting?
For one, this is not the place to be asking that. You can find that information on the front page, Harry Potter Friends :: SnitchSeeker.com - Deathly Hallows News.

Someone is commenting with rude remarks! Who do I tell?
Please, tell a Fan Fiction Moderator or an Administrator immediately. Harsh criticism or disrespect is not tolerated in our forums, and anyone who posts offensive or hurtful remarks in a fan work thread will be reprimanded.

What if someone plagiarized?
PM a Fan Fiction Moderator or Administrator immediately and this will get taken care of as soon as possible. There will be no tolerance and no excuses accepted for plagiarism.

Does my fan work have to be Harry Potter related?
Yes, yes, and yes.

How can I tell if my fan work needs to be moved to the High Security Vaults?
If it contains ANY kind of mature themes such as suicide, violence, more mature romantic content or other things that we do not allow in other Gringotts forums, it might be suitable for The High Security Vaults (Mature Fan Works).

What are IC Books?
We're very excited to combine two of our favorite parts of the site: the RPG and our FanFiction section. IC Books are writing projects that are written from the voice and perspective of a fictional RP character, and they can be referenced within the school, Diagon Alley, and Ministry of Magic RPGs.
