Default Fourth-Floor Corridor

The fourth floor is the quietest floor in all of Hogwarts. Those who have been here long enough and know the layout know this as an obvious fact because the primary features of this floor are the Library and Study Hall. To soften your steps as you make your way around, a carpet drapes the entire floor of the corridor. Remember to keep your voice at a whisper because there's important studying going on in this part of the castle!

You will find large green vases placed in the corners of the corridor as well as a number of portraits. There really isn't anything exciting about the vases, though Peeves is known to pick them up and throw them at unsuspecting passersby -- it is strongly advised that you always stay alert. Somewhere along this corridor, you will come across a long tapestry concealing an old riddle, courtesy of a creature now living in the forest; the riddle has been preserved by staff but concealed, ready to be rediscovered by curious new students.

As for the portraits, you will likely notice right away that most of them are of peaceful landscapes. Nevertheless, you will eventually come across Brutus Scrimgeour (author of The Beaters' Bible), Hengist of Woodcraft (founder of Hogsmeade), and Edward Rabnott (a wizard with three different personalities).

follow me; everything is all right.

The fourth floor corridor, seemingly like many of the passageways of Hogwarts, was starting to look a little disheveled. The usually well-swept floor was dirty from the shoes of wandering children, the corners of the walls weaved together with cobwebs from lack of dusting and the odd discarded wrapper or item of food was left to fester on the ground.

It was strange considering the House Elves were usually efficient and consistent with their cleaning.

Amongst the mess on the floor are old Daily Prophet articles dating back throughout the years. One in particular stands out, a particularly weathered broadsheet with torn corners and a man of period dress glancing back out at you.

SPOILER!!: Text Version (Click image for larger view)
The Burke and Black family are desperately seeking answers after the sudden disappearance of eighteen-year-old Mr Macarius Burke.

Mr Burke was due to wed his betrothed Maud Black on the 21st September 1858 at Burke Manor however never showed for his nuptials. The scandal that has befallen both families has become the talk of the Wizarding World with both sides seemingly holding the blame with one another. Numerous important figures were in attendance at what was to be the wedding of the season uniting two of the most prestigious pureblooded families in our community.

The Department of Magical Law Enforcement asks that anyone with information of the whereabouts of Mr Burke should contact them immediately.

Zara was humming to herself as she made her way down the corridor. She was minding her own business, she was, picturing a bit of banana bread she'd snagged from brekkie and wrapped in a napkin and left in her dorm. Yeah, sure, she could have just popped by the kitchens and asked for one, but with the state of the castle these days... who knew what those elves were up to.

See, just look at this rubbish, she thought, picking up the extremely old looking bit of newspaper and crumbling it up without a second thought. One of these clubs really ought to organize a castle clean-up day.

And this was why she wasn't involved in any clubs. It wasn't her duty to keep the corridors clean, but here she was, tucking a paperwad in her robes pocket until she came to a rubbish bin, like the civilized citizen she was.

How clean the corridors usually were wasn't something Ezra had ever really thought about until they suddenly...weren't. It was strange to see the place dusty with rubbish items scattered about. He didn't consider himself a stickler for picture-perfect cleanliness - his area of the dorm could attest to that - but even so, he noticed the difference.

And it appeared he wasn't the only one eyeing all the mess - and super old Daily Prophet papers??? - as he noticed the girl just down the hall pick one of the papers up. "Wonder who's been discarding all this stuff," he commented aloud, plucking one from the ground himself. Some editorial from 1899. Mildly interesting, actually, but this seemed the sort of thing that would be stored in the library, not thrown out in a corridor.
