Working hard or hardly working, right? Riiiight?

Wrong. Jasper had been working hard, actually, and was quite looking forward to his break. He was a little tired, not so much because of his actual job, but more the additional night classes he was doing alongside it. Though after three years he was very much used to all being so busy, it never stopped tiring him out. But that didn't mean he wanted to stop doing either; quite the opposite, in fact. He wanted more. He was thriving.

But yes, break time, and he had made a beeline for the Juice Bar. Something fruity and fresh ought to wake up up a bit, get him nice and invigorated for the rest of the work day.

Jasper scanned the bar, eventually deciding on a cup of simple orange and mango. He poured himself a cup, and took a sip of it right there and then. Mm, exquisite.

Truth be told, Yassi had only discovered the juice bar a couple of months ago. Even then, she had only tried it a few weeks ago. There was something quite intimidating about attempting something new in the presence of others. The fear of making a fool of herself while trying to understand where the line formed and which juices were which is what kept her from taking advantage of the space.

But ever since that first juice, she had made it a tradition to try a new flavor every week. Until she had tried them all. It was also just another excuse to stand, as desk work was awfully redundant.

She took her time making way to the bar, taking advantage of each second spent away from her desk. Finally, she reached for a glass and paused in order to contemplate her choice. "Oh, let me guess!" Yassi wasn't the forward type, but she hadn't spoken to anyone all day. The words just spilled out of her.

She smiled warmly at the unfamiliar man (Jasper). "Mango... Pineapple, peach!?" She had that one last week, it was absolutely divine.

There was another person, and that was perfectly fine with Jasper; he seemed to spend half of his life either sequestering himself among the the prophecy orbs down on level ten (or studying the skills that would help him know how to make said orbs) that it was always nice to interact with another person.

He shifted slightly to the side, subconsciously moving over just in case he was in the way of a flavour she was eyeing up.

"Mango, yes," he replied, in his strong French accent. Oh, but peach? Why did that sound so appealing? "Mango and orange, it is very refreshing. The peach, is it good?"

She reached forward to pour herself a glass, but paused. His words were just about all the convincing she needed to pour herself a glass of mango and orange instead of the berry juice she had reached for just moments before. Again, she smiled warmly, this time in thanks. Refreshing was needed, especially today when the work seemed to drag on and on.

"Quite," she nodded, filling up her glass. "But very sweet, which I do enjoy, though perhaps it is not to everyone's taste." The mango and orange was sweet too, however.

Look at that.

His influence.

Jasper broke into a smile to match hers, and took a sip from his own cup while she poured one for herself. "I personally believe sweet is best when it comes from fruit." He wasn't much of an actual-sweet-eater, with his one exception being chocolate. Melted chocolate, specifically. It... mm, no... no, no, he wasn't going to think about it. He was being healthy. With juice.

An introduction seemed like the next logical step. "I am Jasper." Extra heavy accent on the name; he couldn't help it. It would have been much easier to say 'Gaspard', but Jasper had never introduced himself as such outside of France. It was just how he liked to operate.

Yassi tucked her black ringlets behind her ear, nodding in agreement. "It is certainly a healthier way to satisfy a sweet-tooth." Though was this juice healthy? Probably not. She didn't want to be that person, so she kept the thought to herself, but there were probably artificial sweeteners and sugars mixed in. This did not bother her though, she didn't mind either way. Life was far too short to get hung up on the details. She would much rather indulge and enjoy her time on earth, you know?

His accent made it difficult for her to understand, though her own accent was just as foreign. It was watered down over time, but one could still tell she was not an English native. "Jah-sper," she paused. "Did I butcher it?" It was always important to clarify, there was nothing more disrespectful than mispronouncing someone's name.

It was her turn now, yes? "I am Yasmin, but most everyone calls me Yassi." Except for her parents who used the traditional Yah-sah-meen. She couldn't possibly expect that from others though.

Jasper allowed himself a smile. "No, you say it just fine," he replied. She had maybe been a little heavy on the 'ah', but then, so had he. The rest was there. Despite the fact it was rather difficult for him to say the English variation of his own name, it was still marginally better than hearing people - especially the English, but others too - try to call him 'Gaspard'.

And fail.

Which they usually did.

Not that he resented that or even blamed them but... yes.

"Yasmin. Yassi," he repeated the names back to her, a way of trying to cement them into his memory. "A lovely name." Both lovely names, actually, but yes. Jasper went to take another sip of orange and mango, then had a thought. "Did I butcher it?" It would be terribly bad form for her to be so invested in pronouncing his name correctly, only for him to fail to repay the favour.

She wore a look of relief, before taking another sip of her juice. Mmm. It was an exceptional choice. One of her favorites thus far, actually. "Thank you," she grinned into her cup before lowering it. "It comes from the Jasmine flower," she explained. "Yas, is what they call it in my country." She paused before adding, "What does Jasper mean?" She was quite curious.

Yassi was mid-sip when he asked his question and accidentally spilled a small amount of juice in the process of hurrying to answer. "Oh no, not at all," she sheepishly reached over for a napkin. "Your pronunciation was perfect."
