| | Quidditch Pitch If you follow a winding path from the Training Grounds, eventually you will arrive at the Quidditch pitch. The oval structure itself is a rather remarkable sight to see as it stands at five hundred feet long and a hundred and eighty feed wide. Because of the popularity of the sport, the pitch is used quite regularly. Here tryouts are held, in addition to scheduled team practices and a number of inter-House matches throughout the term. When the pitch isn't booked, it is available for general use from anyone who wants to casually fly around or play various broom games.
The maintenance on the pitch is of utmost importance. The three silver goalposts at each end of the pitch are regularly polished so they shine brightly in the sunlight, and the white markings outlining the exterior of the pitch as well as the middle are regularly painted. During the fall, spring, and summer months, a lawn mower has been charmed to cut the grass of the pitch mid-morning every three days just after the dew has dried. When it is winter, the mower is set aside and a magical snow blower is used to clear up as much of the pitch as possible. To keep the pitch in prime condition, all are asked to do their part as well by not littering or vandalizing it in any way; otherwise there will be consequences to face.
Anyone who wishes to use the Quidditch pitch is allowed do so, but it is expected that all rules regarding it are adhered to at all times and the curfew listed is followed. These rules can be found posted on the noticeboard at the entrance of the pitch. ooc: please do not play for the flying professor: PhoenixRising

| YesJess! | Captain Goggles | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers Quidditch Tryouts: Term 69 After a rough start needing a few days recovery, Amelia was ready to get these Tryouts underway and see what sort of talent Hogwarts brought this year. There were always those quidditch 'prodigies' that seemed to pop in every couple years. While she might have been on bedrest, that didn't mean her brain wasn't constantly swirling with ideas of how to discover new talents. The next few hours should hopefully uncover the best of the best for each house. "Welcome to another year of Hogwarts Quidditch. I'm Professor Adara, your flying instructor and quidditch referee, when I'm not down in down the dungeons teaching potions. Some of you also know me as your coach for the England Under 17 team," She looked over to Nadia and Jansher and Emma. Although Jansher played for Scotland, that didn't mean she didn't see him when England and Scotland played each other. "I presume if you're trying out for quidditch you're familiar with the selection process, but each house team will consist of three chasers, two beaters, one seeker, one keeper. There will be three reserve players selected for each team. Just because you were on the team last year does not guarantee a spot this year." Behind her was the familiar obstacle course set up. "Various stations exist to showcase your speed and agility, those chaser and keeper hopefuls should head to the goalposts to take turns passing the quaffle while a keeper tries to defend them. Beater hopefuls aim their bludgers at the targets over there - let's save bludger attacks on your opposing players for an actual match." She was still feeling not her full self and thereby didn't fancy having to heal anyone. "Seeker hopefuls - there's at least two snitches flying around, catch them. You can try out as many of these stations as time allows, even if it's not your preferred position."
Looking around at each of the prospects, she then flicked her wand behind her. "Oh and one more thing to help offer a bit more of a challenge this year. I've manifested a snowstorm on the pitch to see how each of you fare with the decreased visibility. And you may begin. Good luck. " As she said so, she kicked off into the air to hover on her own broomstick for enhanced reffing abilities. ooc: As was the case last term, only one post is required in tryouts, so I've laid out all the instructions in my first post rather than a welcome / waiting period. If you've yet to make your three posts for the term, posts here do count but that just means you need a total of four posts, whether that's all four in here, three elsewhere and one here... whatever combination, as long as at least one post in tryouts. Please indicate your position preference in your title - or at least what 'station' your character is at. Be realistic. You'll have ten days, so until January 28th to complete the required post(s) and questionnaire. With rosters hopefully to be posted around January 31st. We'll be around for reactionary posts and/or guidance. Any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to ask myself or the Wizarding World Admin (Charley Potter or sweetpinkpixie). Happy flying

Jan was feeling good about his chances this term. Last year, he had nerves with making the team but that was the old Jan. The new and improved Jan learned to keep his nerves in check and it wouldn't be the end of the world if he didn't make the team. He'll just keep up with his practicing. Jan smiled when he arrived, "Hello Professor." and smiled at his teammates and friends before listening to the rules. Yep, summers with U-17 were fun, even though he had to play for a different team based on where he lived.
Anyways, he blinked at the news about a snowstorm. Great. Jan had already tied his hair into a ponytail, but now he will have to wear his night-time black silk bonnet. Snow was wet and cool. And wet did things with his hair texture that he didn't want to work on fixing after. Good thing I brought it incase it rained. Even if he felt a tad silly wearing it in public, but hair care was important!
After Jan secured his goggles on, he then wrapped the silk bonnet nice and snug over his head. Making sure no locs slipped out before he mounted his broom. "You guys excited?" He asked before he felt the nice breeze taking off towards the Chaser and Keepers section. Or at least, he was sure of that by the looks of the hoops.

| chaser | slytherin astronomizzle ♧ gryffinDORK | & the rest is drag ♣ #badluckDerf Calliope strode confidently onto the pitch, her broomstick slung over her shoulder, lucious brown locks tied tightly in a long braid, and her eyes narrowed with determination - so much so that she entirely neglected to greet Professor Adara. The crisp autumn air bit at her skin, but she barely noticed. She had one goal today: to secure her spot on the Slytherin Quidditch team as a Chaser. She didn’t care what anyone said about her build, or how some people helpfully suggested she might make a good Seeker instead. They, like Maddox's stupid dumb moronic decorative pieces of paper, didn't know what they were talking about.
Her frame was lean, sure, but that didn’t mean she lacked strength or speed. She’d spent enough time training herself to prove her worth in a position that was about finesse and not just a natural knack for flying and chasing after Snitches. Seeker? Please. Calliope wasn’t about to be some hovering figure in the sky waiting for the little golden ball to appear. No, she wanted the thrill of the chase, the exhilaration of playing offense, taking the Quaffle and outmaneuvering the opposition. And with Zinnia Shacklebolt's endorsement from the past summer still carrying her spirits, there was no way the reversed Fool was right.
As she took her position on the pitch, she scanned the area. Her eyes briefly flickered toward the stands and, for only a moment she wondered if he had pulled his head out of he dragon dung and come to watch her. He’d probably be sitting there all smug, waiting to pass judgment and whatever - after all, he had to know better than anyone else, right? She tried to push the thought of him and his stupid tarot cards out of her mind - maybe catching a glimpse of Alaric in the stands to accomplish just that. The last thing she needed was some cryptic nonsense about recklessness or lack of commitment clouding her focus. Professor Adara was already doing plenty for that with her snowstorm. Too stubborn for her own good? Duh, naturally, but that only made her more determined.
She took a deep breath and walked toward the goalposts, her eyes already zoning in on the quaffle. The snowstorm that had suddenly manifested was a challenge, sure, but it wouldn’t slow her down. If anything, it made this whole thing feel more intense, more real. This wasn’t just some casual tryout or little kid camp. It was a battle for a spot, and she wasn’t going to let some weather - or anyone’s or anything's doubt - get in the way. Excited being a far cry from how she was feeling, no offense objectively decent looking housemate.
Calliope mounted her broom, adjusted her goggles, and kicked off into the air, the cold wind rushing against her face. The flurry of snow around her only heightened her focus, her senses sharpening. She blocked out everything else: the distant hum of the other students, the older boy she was currently trailing en route to the posts, the perceived sneaky glances of her peers. Today, the only things that mattered was this pitch, the quaffle, and her.
And...maybe this ruddy snowstorm too.
The snowstorm swirled around her in a chaotic blur, but Calliope’s eyes narrowed, cutting through the haze as snowflakes clung to the edges of her goggles - she had been right on having mamma double and triple up on the Impervius Charm. She spotted a flash of red near the ground and zoomed toward it, her broom darting with precision - the quaffle. She extended her hand, fingers brushing the icy surface before she gripped it tightly. With a quick, practiced flick of her wrist, she lifted the ball from the ground and prepared to pass it in combination with someone or simply take it to the goal herself ... once she sorted out, again, just where everything was - like that objectively decent looking housemate who had been so chatty earlier and rivaled her dad when it came to hair protection. She ought to at least be able to hear him through the flurry.

| Seeker - Hufflepuff YesJess! | Captain Goggles | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers Emma was feeling more confident this year than last year as she'd strode out onto the pitch for the second time. She had her own broom, thanks to making reserve seeker during the summer for the England U-17 which she felt maybe her odds were good this term. Although she still wasn't feeling too over confident as the last thing she wanted was to get her hopes shattered.
She listened as Professor Adara went over the familiar instructions but added a spin to tryouts this year with a weather enhancement charm. The magicked snowstorm would of course make things more challenging but during a real match she knew well enough that they weren't privy to perfect weather conditions. Mounting her broom, the Hufflepuff surveyed her competition a moment, noting Jansher's presence of course, "nerve-wrecked but excited," she replied to Jan, along with a young Slytherin she hadn't the opportunity to meet yet but seemed confident in her abilities. Adjusting the goggles on her face and muttering the impervius charm to help with some some snow glare and repelling the water, Emma kicked off into the sky and hovered from a decent vantage point allowing her eyes to adjust to the snow as she scoured the skies for the elusive snitch.

| Chaser l Slytherin Swedishfish Girl! Madame Librarian! Jess's Soul Sister! Sweetest Swede! JT walked out onto the quidditch pitch with his prized jolleyrocket slung over shoulder. This year he was more confident at tryouts since he had worked on his speed, strength and most of all how he steered his broom. JT had avoided some collisions last year with a cry and a quick swerve to the side. This year he was more confident in his flying. "Good day Professor Adara!" JT greeted their Flying Instructor and Potions Mistress with a winsome smile, and a wave before listening attentively to her tryout instructions. Today they had to deal with a snowstorm ontop of showing off their abilites. Great, good thing he had his cap on head and goggles that he had placed impervius charms on for just this kind of weather.
Kicking off from the ground on his jollyrocket JT was immediatley hit in face by the strong wind and snowflakes. Luckily he had some experience riding in this type of weather since a few of the quidditch matches he had taken part in last year had been both rainy and stormy. Spotting a red quaffle JT zoomed after it, lying low on his broom, trying to block out the howling wind, and snowflakes flying past his goggles all focus on catching the quaffle. When, he neared it reached a hand out and grabbed it. Looking around for Jan or Calliope he spotted them not too far away, and in a better position to score and hollered over hoping that his house mate heard him over the storm. "Catch Jan!" before passing the quaffle over, and seeing how his peer scored. Some several minutes later JT was fllying closer to the goal posts when a red quaffle was passed to him and he turned towards the goal posts, aimed and shot the quaffle, cheering inside his head since nobody else could hear him when his quaffle went through one of the goal posts and scored a goal for Slytherin.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Maddox Robicheaux Slytherin First Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Felicity Morose Hufflepuff Fourth Year | Beater | Hufflepuff The Gay Agenda™< >Homiesexual uwu Felicity came flouncing onto the pitch, Bludger bat in one hand and broom in the other. She was excited not just for the tryouts, but also to see what everyone else was bringing to the table. She bounced on the balls of her feet while she waited for Professor Adara to finish her explanation. She nodded to Jan, hoping that he would make it onto Slytherin's team so that they'd be able to play a real game against each other. She didn't have any doubts that he would—she had seen how he'd played over the summer and knew he'd have no issues. Even with a little snowstorm.
She kicked off of the ground on her broom and made her way over to the beater's area. Through the snow it would be more difficult for her to aim where she was hitting, but she knew she'd have no problem spotting the Bludg— WHOOSH!
She dodged just out of the way as a Bludger flew right past her, doing a barrel roll with her broom. She whipped around so she could watch as it looped back to try and hit her again. The targets were behind her, now, so there was no use in trying to hit it back in the direction she was facing. So instead she played chicken—the ball got closer, closer, she readied her bat, and—! She flipped the tail end of her broom to the side, effectively sidestepping it in midair, and struck the ball as it whizzed past her. The momentum of the Bludger sent it rocketing forwards, and since she wasn't quite facing the targets when she struck, she only hit it in the general direction of where she knew one was. And still, she was able to strike one on the outside edge with enough force to make it shudder. She twirled her bat as she swooped forward to chase down some more Bludgers. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Max Krauss-Marshall Slytherin First Year | Seeker | Slytherin books and cleverness | i like you a latte Seeker hopeful? That was Max Krauss-Marshall, alright. So he had to catch at least one of the Snitches flying around. He felt that the snowstorm on the pitch would challenge his preferred position the most, since visibility was most important for those who had to seek the smallest ball, but he couldn't complain. After all, it was what he got himself into, and it would be good simulation for real bad Quidditch weather.
Like many of his peers (competitors?!), he had goggles that were pre-protected with the Impervius Charm. These he secured before his eyes, but not before staring curiously at an older housemate. "Do we have to wear the ... the bonnet?" If so, where could he get one?
Max kicked off into the air and SCREEEEECHED at the cold wind slapping his face. Also because of adrenaline, lots of it! He stopped making the sound and chuckled excitedly when he reached a good distance from the ground, where he hovered to survey the entire pitch. He found himself adjusting to the snow, both in temperature and sight, and allowed the white snow to serve as a background to spot the Golden Snitch better.

| astronomizzle ♧ gryffinDORK | & the rest is drag ♣ #badluckDerf Calliope’s pulse quickened as she gripped the Quaffle tighter, her focus laser-sharp despite the blinding snow swirling around her. The wind howled, battering her face, but she barely noticed, eyes fixed on the goalposts ahead. Her hair whipped behind her, but it didn’t matter as her goggles were steady and clear thanks to her mom’s meticulous charm work and Calliope's own persistent nagging. She wove expertly through the air, twisting her broom into sharp, fluid turns as she darted past a couple of the hopefuls who were still struggling to navigate the storm. Ahead of her, something-T’s shot had already sailed through one of the posts, and while that was a nice bit of Slytherin team spirit, it only fueled her determination. She wasn’t going to let anyone take the spotlight. Not today.
Zipping through the snowstorm, Calliope was nearly flung right off her broom by a frosty gale, narrowly avoiding a collision as she approached the goalposts after a dramatic course direction. Her heart hammered in her chest as she adjusted midair, calculating the trajectory of her next move and trying not to be made a fool by the wind again - it so wasn't the vibe.
Calliope’s heart was still pounding from the adrenaline of her near-fall - stupid wind - when she spotted a flicker of movement in the stands. Through the flurry of snow and the blur of shifting shapes, she recognized two figures perched together, standing out even against the white haze and house banners. She could really only make out their outlines - Maddox and Alaric's, that is - but her pulse still quicked for reasons completely unrelated to bludgers and snow. Alaric was grinning, probably, giving her an enthusiastic thumbs-up, probably, like he always did, but Maddox’s unreadable expression nagged at her, the one she imagined him wearing anyway. "For Circe's sake, FOCUS, Barrington," she chastised herself. With a sharp, calculated burst of speed, she leaned forward, twisting her body into the shot as she flung the quaffle toward the right hoop. It sailed through the air, a blur of red against the white storm, and the first year returned both her hands to the handle of her broom just in time for another strong gust to whoosh her off trajectory. Maybe those people had had a point about her size because she was this close to being whipped around like a leaf in this overzealous snow storm of Professor Adara's.
Calliope leaned back, letting the wind rush through her hair as she pulled up, barely holding on to the handle of her broomstick and unable to see just how fantastic her shot had been - she assumed, however, that she had scored. It was then that Calliope’s sharp eyes caught a glint of gold, and her heart skipped a beat as the snitch zipped past her and darted across the snowy haze, disappearing momentarily into the swirling snow before reappearing in a flash of the sun's light leaking through the enchantments. She hesitated, just for a moment, feeling the undeniable pull of the chase and the luster of pending glory. Her fingers twitched, the instinct to go after it bubbling up, despite her steadfast decision to focus on becoming a chaser. But then her gaze flicked towards movement to her left, sobering her real quick, where Max was hovering nearby, his broomstick steady beneath him. She caught his eye and immediately shouted, her voice cutting through the flurry. "Max! Stop pretending to be an owl and Go get it! Snitch, over there!" She truly deserved a prize seeing as it took a fair amount of her willpower to not just take off after it herself. It wasn’t her position, not in this tryout, not ever. "Come on, Max!" she yelled again, finger now thrusting in the air towards another peek of gold just before it was shrouded in white once again. "Get it before someone else does!"
As for her, well, she went on back to retrieve another quaffle. "OOOOOOOOOOOI! Someone do loop with me!" Some might call her terribly bossy for a first year, but Calliope preferred to think of herself as eager and someone who takes the initiative.

Whether others were excited as Jan wasn't as important as the task ahead. Though he did want to make sure his potential teammates were comfortable enough in the air. "No worries, there's no rule that says you need to wear this." He smiled at his younger housemate (Max). Maybe the regular helmet, but that helmet's inner material wasn't as protective with hair styles as a bonnet.
Thankfully the cold never bothered Jan as he flew against the snow flakes beating against his face. "Thanks JT, good throw!" He smiled as he scooped the Quaffle easily from the pass. And look, now they have matching brooms so it'll be even easier working together if they both make the team again.
There was some shouting overhead, but Jan didn't hear too much of it with the wind gusting. But he did recognize their movements as wanting something to do. "Here you go, think fast!" Jan threw a pass over to (Calliope)'s direction. |

| Beater | Gryffindor Bathes in Maple Syrup | Dancing Lobster | Mrs. Charlie Weasley | Seneca's Beard | That's So Fetch Beauden adjusted his grip on his broomstick, taking a deep breath to steady the nerves that had been creeping in since the moment he stepped onto the pitch. His heart raced—not from fear, but from anticipation. This was his second shot at making the team as a Beater, and he wasn't about to let it slip by. Last year's experience had been a mix of highs and lows, but this time, he was more prepared. He'd spent the summer when not at the owl emporium honing his reflexes and working on his precision, and he was determined to show Professor Adara and everyone else just how much he'd improved.
As the snowstorm swirled to life around them, Beauden squinted against the flurry of white, his lips quirking into a small grin. This'll be interesting, he muttered to himself.
He jogged over to the bludger station, saluting a few familiar faces from the previous year and giving nods to everyone else. Beauden grabbed the closest bat and felt its weight in his hand, giving it a quick swing to warm up. The targets loomed in the distance, obscured slightly by the falling snow, but he could still make out their shapes.
Then a bludger was released. It shot into the air, its trajectory erratic, and Beauden tightened his grip. As the ball came hurtling toward him, he shifted his weight, raising the bat with practiced precision. The crack of impact rang out as the bludger hurtled toward the nearest target, striking it dead center.
Beauden exhaled sharply, the adrenaline kicking in as he prepared for the next shot. Each swing felt sharper, each hit more deliberate. He focused on keeping his form steady. His goal wasn't just to hit the targets—it was to hit them with power, accuracy, and control. He knew that a Beater's job was more than brute strength; it was about strategy, protecting teammates, and creating opportunities.
Between swings, he stole a glance at the other beater hopefuls. "Not bad," he commented to the Hufflepuff (Felicity).

Nadia was definitely more than ready for another term of quidditch as she met everyone else down at the pitch for try-outs. It didn’t matter that she had played all summer on the U-17 team (Yes she caught that look from her coach/professor) it was in her blood, hopefully her future, and she enjoyed it quite a bit. And as she listened to Professor Adara’s speech, it seemed like the woman was having her own bit of fun with her addition to the try-outs Nadia had faced last year. Oh goodie…some snow to make things very interesting.
As she kicked off from the ground and flew off to begin once they were released, Nadia made her way towards the goal hoops. It seemed to be a popular area as three Slytherins were already there with the quaffle in one hand or another as it was tossed around. “Hey guys,” she greeted the younger students with a polite smile as she got closer, turning a bit to face them as she got between the group and the hoops. It wasn’t like they were her competition…yet…since she had to be tried against her own housemates first. “Need a keeper?” Sure she much preferred chaser since it seemed like less pressure as a trio on each team, but she could help out where needed.

| Seeker - Slytherin Otter This World ♡ Catpurrccino ♡ Slotherin ♡ Pandamonium It was time!
To show Professor Adara, her friends and all those watching that she had kept up her practices and gotten even better since last term. While her summer had been as chaotic as always that hadn't stopped Bryony from still finding time to push herself at the skills she already had and those she needed to work on. Today, she had every intention in doing the best that she could. And maybe, just maybe she might do even better than she had last term. "Hello Professor Adara!" Bry beamed at the woman, bouncing on her toes in readied excitement, broom in hand. Fingers were wiggled in greeting in the direction of her friends, housemates and even those she didn't directly know. Hello everyone! Were they all as excited as she was?
Listening closely it was confirmed that the tryouts were pretty much the same as last year. This was very good to know as she has plans to start off at one spot and work her way through. However, there was something new to this set-up. A.. snowstorm?! Really, Professor?! Now that was certainly one way to test their skills! She wasn't dressed for a storm.. she wasn't even dressed all that warmly for the cold. Thank Merlin she knew a decent amount of charms that could help her! Particularly the warming charm which she very thoroughly placed on herself. Good thing she also kept her hair tied back into two French braids, and she often wore a headband as well while flying. So hopefully her hair wouldn't be a huge issue for her. As for her hands, her flying gloves were pulled from her pocket and tugged on.. as was a pair of googles. She wasn't taking chances! A girl needed to be able to see as best as she could while on the air!
Now time was wasted when they were told to get started. The blonde mounted her broom, kicked off hard and took off taking a lap around the pitch. Unable to spot the Snitch right away through the snow falling and swirling around her, she hovered off to the side, blue eyes scanning the entire pitch for anything that glittered.

| Beater | Ravenclaw Lovely™ | Captain Hurted | Ariana's Bane | Resident Antagonist | Unparalleled Delight "Whaaaat?! We don't get to take anyone out?!" But that was half the fun!!! Fancy having to make it onto the actual team before you could WHAM people with bludgers. "No fair." Still, not to be deterred, he hopped onto his broom and did not so much kick off the ground but leap into the sky and the flurries of unseasonable snow. He did not have a hat. He did not have goggles. He did not cast the Impervius Charm. He shot like a spell into the elements without hesitation all the same, swinging the Beater's bat in one hand and whooping as he went.
Achilles had signed up for tryouts more or less on a whim, just as he did most things. He had spent plenty of time messing around on the Quidditch pitch back home, throwing quaffles through hoops, catching practice snitches, etc., but Beater was by far his favourite. Keepers were too still, and Seekers only really got a few seconds of real action. Chasers and Beaters always had something to do, and Killy's tendency to be pretty much everywhere and notice everything and have a frankly overwhelming amount of energy AND fly with reckless abandon (aka how he did all things in his life ever) was perfectly suited to either. Beater just pipped Chaser to the post, though, being - in his opinion - more physically and mentally taxing. You really had to keep track of all your own teammates, to keep them covered, and all the opposing teammates (especially the Seeker) to take them out, AND both of the bludgers, AND the quaffle, AND the race for the snitch once it was on, because a well-aimed bludger could very well help win the game. Yeah. He was all about it.
His broom was by no means the best model there was. Actually, it was second-hand - maybe third, he didn't know, he'd not asked - because he did not have the luxury of parents to spoil him, and the gifts they got at home couldn't be too extravagant. The second-or-possibly-third-hand one was fine. Achilles did keep trying to save up money for a better one, but had a terrible habit of spending every last coin he obtained almost before he even had it.
But what Achilles lacked in broom-power and proper Quidditch experience, he certainly made up for in enthusiasm. He didn't look like he could pack a punch, small and slender as he was, but being full of pure, unbridled energy was perhaps his greatest advantage in more ways than one.
As he reached the Beaters' section, Killy spotted another couple of kids trying out, and did a loop-the-loop under and over them, then veered away in order to cut off a bludger and - WHAM! - sent it soaring at one of the targets, hitting the thing closer to the edge than the centre, but hitting it all the same, and with incredible force.
Achilles never stayed in one place for too long, and that was no different when he was on a broom. He zig-zagged back and forth and round and round, zipping away from the targets in a swerve or a dive or a steep incline only to whirl around and - WHAM! - send the bludger he'd cornered back at one of the targets. He did not hit one every single time - no doubt partly due to the lack of experience, partly due to the snowstorm, and partly due to the fact that when he let his energy get the better of him, he tended to become wild, verging on ungovernable - but his success rate was definitely as high as eighty percent or so. And ANYWAY. What were practices for if not for getting better? Achilles Zacharias was a diamond in the rough, and don't you forget it.
Yet again Achilles swept around the tryout area, blinking water from his eyes as snowflakes pelted him and melted snow dripped from his hair into his face. Releasing his broom to clutch the Beaters' bat with both hands this time, he used his knees to whirl his broom around on the spot and swung hard at the bludger that had been pursuing him. The momentum of the broom plus Killy's swing sent the bludger roaring through the air, blasting through the target dead-centre... which was probably more luck than judgement. "'AVE IT!!!!"

| chaser - Slytherin Shoe!Girl │ Rebel Ravie │ Confundus Queen │ RP Addict It was a slightly more confident brunette that had made her way over to the Quidditch Pitch when tryouts were scheduled. Not that Teagan felt she was infinitely more skilled at the sport than she had been the previous term, but at least she’d been able to learn more from the practices and such that she’d taken part in as a reserve. Plus, Papa Adair had bought her her own broom over the summer, so she didn’t need to depend on the school brooms. Quidditch was still very different from skateboarding, but she felt like she had as much fun playing it as she did working on tricks with her board.
Granted, it seemed as if there were a lot more people trying out from Slytherin this year, but she was still hopeful. At the very least, that she’d get reserve again, but preferably she’d rather make the team outright. Even if she didn’t make it as a chaser again. The reminder from Professor Adara wasn’t discounted, however.as she’d sent the woman a smile. She’d just have to prove herself, and she was anything but unambitious when she applied herself. Obviously.
The snowstorm wasn’t ignored either, as she’d quickly plaited her hair before mounting her broom to join the others at the goal hoops. Greeting the others became less simple with the raging storm, but she figured they’d understand. Catching the quaffle when it was tossed her way definitely too precedence, even more so given there were keeper hopefuls guarding the posts as well. She wasn’t about to drop the ball, either literally or figuratively.

| YesJess! | Captain Goggles | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers It didn't take long for hovering before the first students kicked off into the air, Amelia noting how they reacted to the difference in weather. It was a testament to how prepared they might be during an actual snowstorm in a game rather than one magicked. There were a couple younger students - namely Calliope and Max - that caught her eye in how they performed today. Young though they might have been, it was easy to tell this wasn't their first time on a broom. She'd verify their experiences later, but in observational she was willing to bet that they had played in youth broomstick games. What was Max asking about a bonnet? She spared a glance around the different players to see what he was talking about but Jansher provided an answer first. It was for weather reasons not quidditch, so no rule indeed.
Teagan was another one that she was sure she noticed increased confidence from last year. She smiled at Achilles, shaking her head. "There will be plenty of time for taking out the opponent after prospects make their respective team." It was just a tryout after all, she wanted to see how they all played without too much injuries. Nadia willing to step in as keeper was always helpful - the girl, no young woman now - was a solid player and seeing how she adapted into various positions was warming to her soul.
Felicity was a newcomer to Hogwarts Quidditch, but she was familiar with the Hufflepuff from the summer league having witnessed her on the opposing team. She was a solid beater from what she could tell, as was Beauden.
Then there were two more seeker hopefuls, other than Max, Emma and Bryony. She watched them circling the pitch and adjusting to the swirly white stuff. Seeker was a hard position to judge talent for as sometimes it was mere luck. Whereas the other three positions required much more raw talent and skills. Not that seeker was unskilled but it was just .... different. Her self-moving quill jotted down a few notes including of course Calliope's obvious enthusiasm and sense of teamwork as the girl hollered for Max to get the snitch. Perhaps she was the one who should be trying out for seeker, not Max? ooc: just throwing in some reactions, still plenty of time to hop into quidditch tryouts for this term!

Hogwarts RPG Name: Maddox Robicheaux Slytherin First Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Felicity Morose Hufflepuff Fourth Year | The Gay Agenda™< >Homiesexual uwu Felicity glanced over at the older student (Beauden), giving him a slight nod and smile. "Thank you. You're pretty good, too." She had an admiration for beaters, especially the good ones, and he seemed pretty good to her. She liked to watch what they did, apply it for herself, get better every day.
And then she had to hold on tight to her broom, because someone had flown around her in a little loop-de-loop. "Oh!" she exclaimed as he (Achilles) passed. She watched as he flew around frantically, hitting as many bludgers as he could willy-nilly. She hummed. Not the most skill with that one. But he was hitting the targets at least?
She flew around and began practicing more, swinging at the bludgers and hitting them towards the targets. It always took her a bit to warm up. She was getting better about hitting them at the target, even in the snowstorm. She, at least, did have goggles on to protect her from the snow. Her eyes started adjusting, being able to pick out the bludgers in between the snow. Her swings were more confident, stronger, and she was laser-focused on her goal. She began flying back and forth, swinging on the bludgers herder, harder, sometimes snatching a clear shot from someone else without even realizing. She started hitting closer to the center of the targets, then began hitting the dead center consistently. "Ha!" She released a shout with one strong swing, knocking one of the targets clean over. She smiled a bit to herself, giggling just a bit. If that was a real person, it would've been so funny if they fell over. |

| slightly rearranging some reply ordering for the sake of fluidity #dramallama astronomizzle ♧ gryffinDORK | & the rest is drag ♣ #badluckDerf Nope. No Seeker for her. This snowstorm would have to fling her right off her broom and into a goalpost before she’d ever seriously consider it.
Calliope’s eyes darted up at the sound of an older girl's voice, catching sight of the older girl as she maneuvered toward the goalposts. She raised an eyebrow, her fingers tightening around the quaffle she had just retrieved and shifted her weight on her mediocre school broom. "Be foolish to turn down the opportunity to watch a seasoned player," she nodded, her voice light but competitive. Calliope kept an eye on the U-17 rosters, though she wasn’t exactly memorizing names. She was more focused on who’d be aging out soon so she could figure out her odds when it was finally her turn to try out. With a quick glance to gauge Nadia’s position, she snapped her arm forward, sending the red ball soaring through the air. "Think fast!" Calliope called out, pivoting mid-flight, her broom handle gripped tight as she watched the quaffle arc sharply toward the older Gryffindor.
Calliope’s attention snapped back to the flurry just in time to see her housemate's pass flying toward her. Her eyes narrowed in focus, quickly calculating the best angle to intercept it. Without missing a beat, she darted into position, reaching out and snagging the quaffle with a smooth, practiced motion - though there was a bit of bobbling due to rigidness in her fingers from the cold. The icy air bit at her cheeks as she tucked the ball under her arm and she adjusted her grip on her broom. "Thanks," she called out, her voice cutting through the gusting wind as she shot him a quick, confident grin. "I'll meet you at the posts!" She didn’t waste a moment before making a sharp turn, speeding toward the goalposts once again.
You see, the first year had noticed Professor Adara watching and the snakette had to capitalized on the attention while she had it.
Calliope adjusted her grip on the Quaffle and took a sharper line toward the goalposts. Thighs gripping the handle of her broom for additional stability - stupid wind - she raised her arm, the quaffle balanced on her palm, and flung it ahead where she hoped her older housemade would be to intercept. Back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, with her finishing the sequence off to really leave that lasting impression on the Flying instructor's mind.
Which, of course, meant that this was the precise moment everything would go topsy-turvy.
Calliope’s stomach dropped as a gust of wind slammed into her, sending her tumbling sideways. The icy chill bit at her skin, and for a split second, she was sure she was going to throw her right off her broom. Her hands clenched desperately around the handle, fingers numb, but she refused to let go even as her legs dangled in midair. Her arms, still a bit too twiggy for comfort but stronger than most would expect, began to ache as she strained to pull herself back onto her broom. Her heart raced, adrenaline pounding through her veins, but the effort only seemed to make her grip slip. She kicked her legs in frustration, trying to fling herself back over the broom’s handle. But of course, the stupid school broom, with its infuriating safety enchantments, started lowering itself toward the ground. Before she could even process how she’d failed, her feet hit the grass with a soft thud.
She could feel the heat rising in her cheeks as she stood there, a mix of disappointment and embarrassment creeping up on her and nearly making her eyes water. She knew she should’ve been better than this - she was better than this. She blamed the whole mess on Maddox’s stupid tarot reading, like somehow that was the reason she’d lost her focus. He’d probably cursed her with that stupid upside down Fool card, and now she here, grounded like a total idiot. Like a fool.
Great. Juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust great.

| Seeker | Ravenclaw Baguette | there is no D in my name | TRAITORclaw | Queenie of Narnia Zephyr had bounded eagerly onto the pitch, broom in hand, before tryouts began. He had shifted his weight from one foot to the other as he waited, raring to go and get started.
And soon, they were given the go-ahead! And- wait, snowstorm?
He still quickly put on his goggles, mounted his broom, and kicked into the air, but at that same moment a strong gust of wind smacked into him, and it took a few seconds to regain the direction he'd been going, hands and thighs gripping tightly to his broom.
Phew. This was, uh, going to be a little tougher than he'd expected for a tryout. But it wasn't going to deter him! It was good practice for if he did make the team and a snowstorm did happen to occur during a game. So no complaints here.
He squinted his eyes as if that might help lengthen his sight-distance through the snow billowing all around him. Trying not to think about how cold it was, he continued in a lap around the pitch in search of the snitch, passing two Slytherins and a Hufflepuff who seemed to be doing the same.
Zephyr thought he heard someone shouting about the snitch, but it was difficult to be certain with the wind whipping in his ears. He turned his broom in an arc in that general direction anyway. By the time he got to that area - or what he thought was the area - he didn't immediately spot any hints of gold, so he continued onward, boosted a little by a gust of wind that happened to blow in behind him.
Surely the golden snitch had to be around here somewhere...

It was Nadia’s turn to raise an eyebrow at the remark returned to her offer, not necessarily just because of the words, but the way they sounded. Alright, so said seasoned player was going to see if she could make this interesting…while not getting too full of herself. Especially as another Slytherin flew up near them as she absently brushed some falling snow away seemingly making it four snake chasers to one lion keeper, a non-traditional advantage against her. Bring it on!
She nearly chuckled at the warning, watching the pull back and release and trying to anticipate where the quaffle was headed. Leaning into her broom’s handle she took off to her left, managing to block the ball’s path with relative ease before flying downward slightly and grabbing hold of it to throw back into play amongst the others. But as her previous opponent caught another quaffle from a housemate’s pass, Nadia watched as Calliope sped closer to try again. The chaser turned keeper adjusting her position in the freezing air so she better defended all three snow-dusted hoops to try not allow any big obvious openings to shoot for.
The quaffle was thrown…at another Slytherin…and Nadia turned her attention to await the next move. Except the movement she caught out of the corner of her gaze brought her up short. Calliope had apparently been knocked or slipped from her seat. The seventh year was caught on what to do, flying forward a couple of feet as if moving to help though there were others closer. And then the young snake had righted herself, only to drift back down to the ground as Nadia sat curious as to what happened. At least she had landed safely as the Gryffindor shook her head and got her focus back onto the try-outs.

It was the rush of quaffles and bludgers through the air that Edgar was gleefully floating onto the pitch. He may have unintentionally floated through a student or two on his way, but adorned in his usual quidditch attire, Edgar Cloggs was never one to miss anything quidditch related and demanded a front row spectatorship.
Well he didn't really need to demand anything being a ghost. "What a marvelous afternoon it is!! Oh it's snowing!! How delightful!" Not that he could he could feel it. His sense of feeling had been gone over two centuries, but he was able to witness it through sight.
Floating up through a student or two on broomsticks, he stopped only once at a good vantage point for all the happenings. Befuddled a moment by seeing all the houses in the air, he realized this wasn't a match. His focus on the girl who just went barreling towards the ground like the falling snow. At least the snow offered a cushion for the falls which he had to admit was rightly clever of Adara. Nature's ice pack. Still - falling in front of one's peers was never a good thing as he recalled his own demise so many years ago.

JT was flying around in the air on his beloved jolleyrocket broomstick, and doing his best to avoid colliding with other players as well as bludgers while looking for quaffles to catch and shoot. It wasn't an easy feat with the icy wind blowing, and snow falling to blur his vision momentarily every now and then. JT suddenly gave up an abrupt shout out in irritation "Hey, watch where you're floating mister!" after he was flown through by an overly excited ghost in quidditch attire [Edgar Cloggs] which made him feel even colder and more soaked straight down to his skin. JT wanted this quidditch tryout session to end.
Surveying the air for red distinctive quaffles, he spotted one which he made a beeline for. Not seeing any other snakes to pass the quaffle to, JT continued to fly towards the goal posts, doing his best to not get knocked off his broom by the still strong gushing wind. When he came close enough to attempt a throw, he lifted his arm, aimed and shot when the nearest keeper wasn't looking making a "Wohoooo!" sound as the quaffle went through one of the goal posts, scoring another goal. JT then flew down to land on the pitch, he was freezing cold from head to toe.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Max Krauss-Marshall Slytherin First Year | Seeker -> Beater | Slytherin books and cleverness | i like you a latte He was listening to the howling wind, hovering steadily, when he heard HIS NAME through the noise. OHMERLINthiswasit. A personal invitation from one of the Golden Snitches. He was BORN to be a Seeker. He was … pretending to be an owl … what? In just a second, Max matched the voice to be that of Calliope Barrington, whose silhouette and long brown braid he recognized, but he did not waste another second as he raced toward the peek of gold that he too saw this time. Not having to care about potential Bludgers threatening his precious life in this tryout, he did not let his eyes leave the small golden ball and leaned forward on his broomstick to push it faster. He changed directions this way and that, sensing the Snitch try to shake him off one last time, but witnessing with a surge of excitement its distance from his fingertips close up all the while. “Woohoo!” Finally wrapping his fingers around the Snitch, the young Slytherin released another screech of joy that he had to hold in during the chase in case he attracted more attention from his competitors. He also called out to his helper - and hopefully future teammate - as he relaxed a little and let the wind push him back down to the ground. “Thaaank youuu Caaalliiiooopeeeee …”
Perhaps an attempt at Beater tryouts now. Max reluctantly released the Snitch he sought and was gearing up differently, when he saw none other than Calliope float back to the ground some distance from him. He hesitated, then resumed tightening his helmet. He felt bad for her, of course, but did not think she would appreciate his sympathy. Carefully avoiding catching her eye again, he picked up a bat, and kicked off toward the targets.

| Seeker - Slytherin Otter This World ♡ Catpurrccino ♡ Slotherin ♡ Pandamonium If this girl had taken notice to those around her, it didn't look like it. Bright blue eyes were trained on one thing... Locating the Snitch. Which was starting to feel a bit impossible with the winding blowing like it was and sending the snow right into her face. Honestly, it was seriously rude but it was also fine. This is what happened when playing a game of Quidditch. The weather was unpredictable, as was being able to spot a small golden ball that flitted around at high speeds.
Now of it deterred her from her goal. Not even... Wait.. Was that? It was! There was a ghost out on the pitch! Ha! His excitement was so infectious and Beyond absolutely LOVED it! Then again... Everyone was in a great mood. Nothing was going to stop her now. No one mind her as she took a lap around the pitch a few times.
It was on her... SEVENTH lap around that she spotted it. Or um.. she thought she did. A distinct twinkle of something shiny. Shiny and golden. Bry took off across the pitch, strands of hair flying loose of her braids and clinging to her face as she was pelted with ice cold snow.
Up, down, and around some of her fellow classmates. "Excuse me! Sorry!" She wanted to catch that snitch before it got away! However, she DIDN'T want to crash into anyone. As she got closer the snitch zoomed away. Right, left and downwards across the pitch! She leaned down flatter on her broom, arm outstretched and fingers reaching for the snitch. It was right there!
Her fingers grazed the ice cold Snitch and....
Just like that, it was gone! "Nuuuuuuuuu!"

| YesJess! | Captain Goggles | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers It was the nerves she told herself. Fortunately when the snowstorm started by Adara she couldn't feel anything which Emma wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing. Instead she just focused her energy on one tiny golden object, feeling discouraged when she saw the small Slytherin boy exclaim a 'woo-hoo'. Beginner's luck, she whispered to herself trying to pull some feelings into her as she searched the skies for more movement. It was then that something chilling went through and she blinked horrified when she realized it was none other than the quidditch ghost. "Well someone's a little excited," she grinned, shaking her head.

She didn't, as the little snitch seemed content to fly the other way. The snow wasn't making it easy on her either. Maybe if she just held still it would fly to her, since chasing it only seemed to empower it to evade capture longer.
There it is again. This time feeling emboldened by courage, she zoomed forward, frozen hand outstretched, and felt the wings graze her palm as she couldn't quite close her fingers. "noooo... gloves needed," she reminded herself, sighing into the cold. Some more movement was happening and Adara did her best to keep track of it all. Including the untimely visit from Edgar Cloggs through JT and Emma. She made a note to check on the two rising quidditch stars later, knowing the shock they must feel.
Seeing Calliope on the ground, flushed with pain? Embarrassment? Her eyes trained on the girl to see if any emergency assistance was required. If the scrimmage needed to be halted at all, but they were nearly done and the girl didn't seem in any dire need from initial glance. Give her the opportunity to get her bearings and kick back into the air if she wanted another go. Not that she was doing terrible, she knew the school brooms were awful but apparently not in the budget to replaced except every 50 years or something.
Hearing the apology from Bryony had her amused. What was she apologizing for? It was cute sure, but during a match, there would be no need for apologies. Her goal would be on catching the snitch whatever it took. Sensitive girl, definitely not beater material.
And it was time, whistling sharply, the magicked snowstorm slowed to a gentle falling, "Alright everyone, thank you for participating in tryouts. Go get changed for your next lessons if you have them." But first, she gave a look around at three students, "Mr Forsfelle. Miss Montmorency. Miss Barrington, you as well, I'd like to encourage a visit to Healer Feirgrund." She didn't seem seriously injured, but just better safe, after loosing her grounding. The first two for their ghostly encounters. ooc: that's a wrap on Quidditch tryouts (and gobstones) for this season. Rosters will be posted by Friday for both! Thanks for your participation <3
