| | |  Mr Aguilar's Office
Located in a tower that overlooks the Training Grounds is Mr Aguilar’s office. This is where the flying instructor works when he is not teaching. One of the walls has a large window that provides an excellent view of the grounds, allowing misbehaviour and accidents to be spotted easily. Another wall is decorated with photographs of every single Quidditch team that he participated in, from his first year as a Beater in Castelobruxo to the most recent U14 team that he coached. Some of them are signed by the teammates or students who moved on to become well-known professional players. Next to this display is a cupboard that stores his personal brooms (he has quite a few) and the official school sports supplies that should not be tampered with. A shelf holding books, magazines and famous player figurines stands by the back wall, along with a rolling blackboard that will often show wiggling diagrams of broom game tactics.
When in his office, Aguilar usually sits behind a handsome desk beside the window. On the desk are some more photographs - though these are of his family and girlfriend - as well as a small flag of the Argentine team and a bowl of fresh fruits. If it is still early in the day, you may also see a copy of the Daily Prophet that he has not finished reading. He makes full use of the rest of the space by spreading out the material that he is working on. In front of the desk are two wooden chairs (that he built himself!) with cushioned seats. If you wish to speak to Mr Aguilar outside of lessons, please knock on the door and wait to be invited in. | |

Whew, the correct answer. Mamie exhaled, visibly more relaxed. It didn't take much to set her on edge these days.
"I don't think so," she said quietly. She was pretty sure that venting about the Neo-Alliance invaders was a bad idea, even if Aguilar would have shared her sentiments that they were scary and bad. Plus, she had Quidditch pamphlets to read! She stood up from the fancy handmade chair.

Camilo hoped the conversation had been helpful and encouraging for Mamie. He certainly enjoyed talking about flying and Quidditch - not only were they his favourite activities that he could rattle on about for days, but it also allowed him to take his mind off everything else going on at school for a brief period of time. AND he learned about a new board game, Snitch Snatcher!
"See you on Tuesday. And take a fruit!" he gestured at the bowl of fresh fruits (bananas, apples, oranges, cucumbers) on his desk. Picking an apple for himself, he also stood up to see Mamie out.

Nodding in reply, Aguilar checked that Mamie headed down the corridor safely without being ambushed by scary Muggle haters, before he closed his office door and locked it with a series of charms.
Now ... he had been researching some Quidditch tactics before the impromptu meeting took place. Camilo bit into his apple as he walked back to the blackboard. He was ready to focus on the task again!

Ash had some major doubts about coming up here. She had double- and triple- checked that she wasn't being followed, and at the door she had the sudden urge to leave and not come back. But she stayed. Because she had an important question that needed a muggleborn adult to answer. And she was pretty sure Mr. don't-eat-ice-cream was a muggleborn. She knocked. Twice. Hesitantly but firmly. Weird combo. SHe paced outside of the door while she waited for an answer. Should she leave? It wasn't too late. But no. She really wanted an answer to her question. | |

"Like a, I save you and your friends for a few years and then make all of your lives miserable kind of deal. Like in the books." She took a big bite of the apple, looking nervously at the flying nutrition guy. Did that sound stupid? Because if Ash had been able to pick, she definitely wouldn't have made a deal with the devil. Everyone knew that devils had loopholes. Even if you are about to die, you should still not deal with the devil. Was this a weird question? It felt like a weird question. It did not sound stupid and was not a weird question, considering the emotional and physical pain she was experiencing at the moment because of her identity as a Muggle-born witch.
"Yes, I was born to non-magical parents. First of all, I can assure you that you did not make a deal with a devil." He didn't know for sure, but it was very unlikely. "Whether being a wizard is worth it has no definitive answer. I think that my magical abilities are useful and enjoyable, though they come at great cost. But the cult didn't like the statute, so know Ash was happy to uphold the statute. "Being sad is usually guaranteed. But you don't have to be as careful if you know how to talk your way to safety." He was more concerned about something that she was constantly mentioning since the beginning of this meeting.
"Are you having difficulty making friends, here at Hogwarts?" Aguilar asked carefully, leaning forward slightly. She said that she would do the cool and fun activities by herself until she left Hogwarts and hang out with her Muggle best friends. He got the impression that she had no one to rely on in this school - perhaps that was the fundamental problem here. Having friends to talk to would help withstand these times in so many ways.

But there was a bit of truth to the joke as well. Between crying in a closet and pretending not to cry to pretend to be strong for someone else, the second one was better. And the only thing you could do to stay together in one piece is hang out with people who make you see the good. Like Sammy, and Mamie, and Heath and Claudine, and Minjae, and Eden, and actually almost everyone. You would still be lonely, but at least you would never be alone, which was worse."Nah, nothing else. I was just wondering." Well, he was a muggleborn, and he was still alive. So maybe there was some truth in what he was saying. "I should probably leave." She took a big bite of apple, turned around slowlyyyyy, and walked in the direction of the door. | |

Well, that was not the real prize," he explained as he opened the desk drawer and pulled out a coupon, which he handed to the Ravenclaw. It read: 25% off any one item under 50 galleons, Quality Quidditch Supplies. "Don't let the inquisitorial squad find out. Hope you use it well in the summer."

He grabbed a peeled orange, checked that his wand was in his pocket, and stepped out of the room, locking the door behind him.
A stroll in the grounds sounded nice! As long as he stayed away from tent city by the lake.

Mamie had finally, actually, read a non-fiction book for fun. The Quidditch one. Sure, it had taken over a month, and most of the actual reading had been done during their holiday break, but when there was no actual flying available. And no family to argue with or holiday treats to bake. What's a girl gonna do?
This girl had read the book.
She still had it checked out from the library, too, so she brought it with her to Aguilar's office. Three fun knocks, then she clutched the book with both arms and waited. | |

With so many cult followers moving into the grounds and the castle, Aguilar was spending an increasing amount of time outside his office: mostly walking by the lake and patrolling corridors. He wanted to make sure that students were safe - staying in the Training Grounds tower for more than a few hours at a time, not knowing what was happening in the rest of the school, made him feel anxious. After almost getting in trouble with a Neo-Alliance invader for having a harmless conversation with Nearly Headless Nick, he trudged back to his office just in time to see Mamie knock on the door.
"Hello, Miss Turov. Come in, take a seat," he smiled and unlocked the door with a series of enchantments. He recognised the book she brought by glancing at the cover. While in normal circumstances he would have been delighted to see a student actually take his advice to READ a Quidditch book, he had to make a conscious effort to keep the smile on his face as he pushed the door open for Mamie. He had a feeling that this conversation with her about Quidditch was going to be painful.
"Would you like a - er, glass of water?" he asked, noticing with annoyance that his fruit bowl was, once again, empty. He could not understand why this kept happening; it wasn't like someone was stress eating fruits everyday and forgetting to refill them.

The appearance of Professor Aguilar instantly cheered Mamie. "Hello, Professor Aguilar!" she said as he unlocked the door. That was a lot of enchantments. Did all wizards have to spend so much time locking and unlocking their doors, or was this just a product of their circumstances? Regardless, it made her feel safer to go inside. Mamie made a mental note to ask later. Later, which meant, probably never.
She took a seat as directed, still clutching the book. "Yes, please," she said. She wasn't particularly thirsty, but knowing Aguilar, a "no" could result in a lecture about hydration. She did not notice the empty fruit bowl, because she was not a particularly observant twelve-year-old. Self-preservation instincts? Check. Observation skills? Needed work.
She tried her best to wait to start talking until he sat down, swinging her legs to release some of her nervous energy.
"I read your book!" she finally blurted out, holding the book up so he could see. She had forgotten half of it. But history wasn't important, y'know? | |
