My sister, Anna, told me they were really good because her teacher had been reading them to the class. Now I'm totally hooked, and she doesn't read them anymore, sadly. Well, it's one less person I have to fight with as to who gets to read the latest book first.

My sister's the one who got me interested in reading the books. She borrowed the books from her school library and since Potter-mania was all over (with the release of GoF at the time and the anticipation for the upcoming OoTP) I asked her what was so good about HP and she tried to explain to me, but I said I'd rather read it. Needless to say after reading CoS (I skipped PS coz I already saw the movie before reading the books) I was hooked. I read books 2 to 4 before reading the first book. *lol* And since then I am hooked on HP!

I've been into the books from the very beginning, basically since they were released in America. I doubt many of you remember the wait for Chamber of Secrets - but I do. It killed me, and that time it was only a couple of months in between books - if I'd known that one day I'd be waiting three years in between books, I would have cherished the short wait. I went as Harry Potter for Halloween the year I first read Sorcerer's Stone and my friend was Hermione - no one knew who we were! Now, it's like 'how original' when you see a wee Potter walking around on October 31st.

All the people who jumped on the HP bandwagon late - step off. Just kidding. But, I do find it funny how many people started likeing HP only after seeing the movies... I would hate not having the experience of imagining everything for myself first. I had been in love with HP for years before the films came out, so when the first movie was released it was one of the most exicitng days of my life (the fact that my 13th birthday involved thirty or so of my friends and I going to the theater to see it did nothing to calm me down)! I remember the whole theater gasping when Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone came up on the screen. :sorcerer:

I guess I owe my thanks to my mom, because she pointed SS while we were at a book store, but she says she got the suggestion from the Rose O'Donnell show. So, thanks Rosie and Mom!

After I read the first book, I recommended them to all my friends and my cousins and now they're all hooked so now they owe me one!

^ I agree with you that many people get hooked on the HP only after watching the movie. The person who first introduced it to me to the books was my best friend, which I have known for about six years. When I met her, the books hadn't come out yet, but when they did, she read them and she liked the books, and told me to read them. So I read the first one and I loved it. Honestly, it was one of the first books I read in its entirety. (I didn't much like to read at the time). And then we waited for the second book, and then the movie...and well...since then I haven't been able to stop my fanatism with HP.

BTW this year I think I'm going to dress up as Hermione, and my best (guy) friend says he's going to dress as Harry. I tell him the Sirius costume fits him better...j/k. Heh

^ I don't really think that everyone will read the books if they saw the movie, because that wasn't the case with me. When the first movie came out, my big sister took me to see it in the theater, and I thought "oh that was a cool movie". But I wasn't really interested in it that much, it was just like seeing any kind of regular movie. But when I read my first Harry Potter book, which coincidentally was the Goblet of Fire (I though the characters were a little confusing, since I first read the fourth book in the series ), I was fascinated! Then that book sparked my HP juices to start flowing.. I started to read the 3rd, then the 2nd, and finally the 1st book in late 2002. Its is odd that I got interested ( more like hooked now!) in the Harry Potter series by reading the series entirely backwards, from the fourth book to the first. Then, in late January of 2003, Mugglenet (the only Harry Potter site I would go on back then) announced that Book 5 will come June 21.. I was so exstatic! I would go on nearly :online2long: every day or week for nearly four months counting down the days until book 5. Then in April of 2003, my friend Katie( obsessed even more than I am about HP! You should see her room! ) introduced me to Snitchseeker, and this has become my most favourite site! This site has enabled me to express and discuss all I want about my favourite hobby... Harry Potter anything! (especially the books!) :hail:

It was such a long time ago. I'm having a hard time remembering. I think I was in 4th or 5th grade and at my elementary school we have a Library Class. In class we got to take out some books. On one of the Newly Released bookshelves there sat the Soceror's Stone. And I was like okay I'll get this cause the cover looked interesting(I always pick up books based on their covers). I think I finished the book within a couple of days. So really I must thank my school for allowing us to have Library and buying the book.

well my sister read the books before me and she liked them and then i saw the commercials for the first movie when i was like, 7 and my mom said i had to read the books before seeing the movie(i bet she regrets it now )and she read me the first chapter and said we would read a chapter every night. but my mom is a procrastinator, so i started reading it myself and i got hooked. it got to the point where she had to get me out of my room reading, so i could eat. then the 5th book came out and now i'm a full time harry potter junkee. THE END

well i actually never read any of the books before the first movie came out. i didn't even want to see the movie but it was the only one on at the time we were there (we watched it in a tin shed down the coast). i thought it was alright but i didn't even know there were books about it. when i did i went and brought all the books (minus number 5 cause it wasn't out) and i fell in love with them. i still to this day have not read number one, because i dunno, i hate it :/

When I heard of Harry Potter I thought it was gay and stupid. I HATED it. I wished people would just stop talking about it.

Then one night I was watching channel 3 (The Christian channel) and I got interested in what they were saying. My Uncle had read 3 of the books and I happened to be over there, so I borrowed his copy of SS, read it and was hooked.

A lot of people in my family read Harry Potter. My Uncle, Aunt, cousins, and all of my Uncles friends. They got us premier tickets for movie 1.

i was introduced to the books four yeas ago in fifth grade by the bookworm in my class. i checked out SS from our school library and quickly hunted down the next two. since then, i have been highly anticipating the following books, often waiting up till midnight to get my copy right away.

I first heard about HP from my old friend Adriana when i was a freshman in high school, 1999-2000. But i didn't really care, and only got into it after my dad bought the first movie and i was wondering why the heck he got the movie, but once i watched it, i loved it! and chamber of secrets came out in theaters a month later and after i saw that, i decided to read the books my senior year 2002-2003.

I thought HP was stupid when I first heard of it. I was in the 5th grade and didn't want to read the book everyone was talking about. My secret santa that year gave the first book to me as a present, and I decided to read it because I felt it would be rude if I didn't. Well, I loved thebook immediately. And I've loved the series since.

I never really heard of Harry Potter until I meet my husband. When I was in High School, I heard hushed whispers of it; but I never knew anything about Harry Potter until the 1st movie was about to come out. Then my hubby handed my the first book and dared me to read it before the movie came out. I was like... "Uh. Okay." I started to read it and thought "This is going to be lame" (I have a really hard time reading books and getting into them) But man o man. Was I in for a surprise. I loved it. For the first time in my life I actually finished a book in two days. I couldn't put it down. I had to read the rest. I was lucky though because by the time I finished all the books to the "Goblet of Fire" the Order of the Phoenix had came out and didn't have to wait for "years" as my lovely and his parents had said. I have read all the books more than five times.... I am still working on reading the Pheonix again, but I am like a wiz. I am obsessed. Needless to say, all the thanks to introducing to the Harry Potter and his friends, adventures, and excitement goes to my Husband. The best man I've ever meet.

When I first got the books I hated them so much! But then one day I picked one of them out from the book shelf I started reading them and I got so attached to the book that I took the book where ever I went and every time I had spare time like when my mom goes grocery shopping I read HP. :sorcerer:

It's one of my best friends actually. She's a great reader and when she gave it to me, I didn't think much about it. Mind you, I didn't read them all in a row. 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 1st and lastly 5th is the sequence. Queer, huh?
