What's your favourite HP book?

Whats your fave JK book... the original, the new or maybe even the textbooks... which one is yours?

anhaire 12-28-2003 05:27 AM

Yay, I`m the first one. I think the worst by far were the textbooks...they were boring and (obviously) plotless.

Lupin Jr 12-28-2003 05:30 AM

Prisoner of Azkaban, it is really intellegent and well thought out. It is deceptive and has secrets to the last page. It also has the legend Lupin in it!

lauradonaghy 12-30-2003 10:42 PM

PoA is fantastic. It was my favourite book for AGES (till I read LOTR and HDM). I loved the schoolbooks, too, but OotP was just a series of excellent scenes weakly linked.

SnakelikeShorty 12-31-2003 09:18 PM

For me CoS was the best of the books, and I think that part of the reason is because it is scary. It was the best written horror book I have ever read. It had some of the best lines of the series and had a wonderful plot.

i agree. This book had a lot of surprises in it for me

1 - POA
2 - GOF
3 - OOTP
4 - COS
5 - PS
6 - QUIDDITCH THROUGH THE AGES
7 - FANTASTICS BEASTS

Emmaline_Vance 02-14-2004 05:31 AM

My fave's Goblet of Fire. i love it coz it's so rich-with the Yule Ball and the tournament, voldemort's return, i think it's brilliant!
and the textbooks were great too, harry n ron's comments in fantastic beasts was fun.

Dainsie 03-31-2004 07:48 AM

I agree that the textbooks were plotless... cause they're textbooks! They arent meant to tell a story.

I thought they were great, filled with fun facts and a fair bit of backstory... plus they were for charity! Its great that JK gave up her time to help! GO JK!!

lightstar1154 05-30-2004 05:16 PM

^ I agree. You have to admit, the textbooks are really useful in learning some stuff about the wizard world. It would have made the books even longer and more detailed had she put in all of that info.

I think JKR is a great person. She donates tons of money, is very friendly to her fans, and she wrote 2 books solely for the purpose of being donated to the Comic relief fund, lets hear it for JKR!

Now back to my vote... I voted PoA like many people, basically for the same reasons :)

ToMGiRL 06-02-2004 02:18 AM

My favorite book would have to be the fifth one, he starts acting like a teenager! Finally! I mean thank god he got some anger out!

grindylow713 06-02-2004 02:22 AM

Book Three Azkaban, then Five Order

hp391 06-02-2004 02:25 AM

I like PoA b/c it is not the sam I gotta save to whole world form voldermort in this one he gets his godfather but what is said is that he looses him in OotP

Hermione Evans 06-05-2004 04:07 PM

I like POA! The idea of Dementor and Patronus, make me realized JK is a brilliant author.

Singularity 06-06-2004 09:09 PM

PoA, OotP, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and Quidditch Through the Ages.

Kazters 06-06-2004 09:13 PM

POAis the best JK Rowling book out of the series so far.

tonks26 06-07-2004 10:14 AM

i like books 3, 4 and 5

DracOFan04 06-07-2004 08:11 PM

Hi. I definatly think that the Goblet of Fire was the best book because I liked trying (keyword: trying) to put together the puzzles and riddles. :whisle:

Mike_The_Mighty 06-07-2004 08:14 PM

i liked the 5th book it was just plain cool. with Vold. and Dumble. fighting it wa just the best.

Didymus 06-07-2004 08:53 PM

Order of the Phoenix and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them.
I love all the books but these are my favourites. :bouncepea:

Ally_W 06-09-2004 06:57 PM

i like GOF because its so interesting and fun, they are all brilliant, amazing books. my least fave would be COS. (not including the other books for cominc relief)

bookaholic 06-11-2004 05:58 AM

OotP all the way!! It was definitely the best-written...JKR gets better with every book!! Besides...the longer, the better!! Go OotP!!

slytherin_gurl13 06-18-2004 09:22 PM

I love all of the books! But my favorite would have to be Prisoner of Azkaban. All kinds of secrets come out about Harry's past and it's all put together perfectly! And also, of course, Lupin's there and I love him!

KekeTicky1221 06-18-2004 09:36 PM

I like The Prisoner of Azkaban more or less even though the movie stank...... but i liked it more well because there was a lot more info there where jk rowling wrote i dont mean jk didnt write enough in the others but the focus on aftr the 3rd was more serious, love warming and self righteous sweet........ before that i was really and truly getting fed up when harry kept asking how do people kno me though i kno he hadnt been included in the wizarding world for quite sometime.......but the only th@$ really the reason why i like it cuz there more info and it was like alfonso liked directed jk wut too write or else the book would have STANK as well........
i kno im being rude and crude , but im really sry for my ranting and misbehaving but its just i expected alot more wah:bye:

funky monkey 07-06-2004 10:51 AM

lol.. i didnt think the movie was bad at all . . . oh well, everyone is entitled to their opinions . . . . i think i like prisoner of azkaban . . . or used to . . bt after all this fuss ova it . . i think im kinda liking goblet of fire betta . . it had always been both of em.. but i think that GoF has more exciting issues . . . geez thats gonna be a good movie

Swizzlestick 07-10-2004 01:40 AM

POA is my favourite out of all of them, but here is my list.

1. POA
2. GOF
3. OOTP
4. COS
5. PS
6. Fantastic Beasts
7. Quidditch

I like PS and COS but I thought the last three were better because they were more adult orientated, but then I am an adult reader so that is probably why!

I think what she did with Fantastic Beasts and Quidditch Through the ages was remarkable.

It still meant alot of work and thought went into those books and yet every bit of money and time she spent on it went to charity. She is inspiring!

Hermy_Ly 07-18-2004 05:29 PM

I loved Goblet of fire, but I also like PoA and CoS.
There was something strange abou book five, I don't know if it was because I read it in english (missed some things because I'm Portuguese).

Siriusly_in_Love 07-25-2004 05:42 AM

For me Prisoner of Azkaban is the most readable, so I say it's my favorite - but I think the writing gets better with each one, so I consider OotP pretty much tied with PoA. My list goes:

1 - Prisoner of Azkaban
2 - Order of the Phoenix (until page 805 - then it's my least favorite book. >_< )
3 - Goblet of Fire
4 - Sorcerer's Stone
5 - Chamber of Secrets
6 - Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
7 - Quidditch Through the Ages

And you can insert the Half Blood Prince as number eight, because without Sirius, I don't see the point.

No, not really, I can't back that up...

me too. for me book 4 is where alot of the action starts.

sirius27 07-25-2004 05:51 AM

Everything JK has written has been great. But, my favorite is POA. That's where Sirius and Lupin are first introduced! I also really like OOTP, but POA beats it. So anyway, here's my list.

1. POA
2. OOTP
3. GOF
4. COS
5. SS
6. Qudditch through the ages
7. Fantastic beasts and where to find them.

I agree with Siriusly in Love. What's the point without Sirius? Honestly though, I'm sure book six will be excellent as well.

TonksSB 07-25-2004 05:53 AM

1-POA
2-GOF
3-OotP
4-CoS
5-PS

I have to agree with Swizzlestick, that even though I'm not an adult, the last 3 are more mature, and also part of a greater story. PS was more character introducing and we got more history in POA to OOTP.

picchick2006 07-25-2004 06:00 AM

PoA is my favorite out of them all, but I like OotP second(partly because it has Tonks- I love Tonks!) :sorcerer:

MadameMalfoy 07-26-2004 03:47 PM

1. GOF
2. OOTP
3. POA
4.COS
5. PS

LavenderWeasley616 07-29-2004 04:40 PM

K this is my list:
1. GoF
2. PoA
3. OotP
4. CoS
5.PS

I haven't read the others so I can't judge them!

Genie 08-29-2004 06:22 AM

i'm not sure if i like prisoner of azkaban or goblet of fire best. they're all good though. but i liked the books a little bit more where sirius was more on the alive side lol

Patronus Potter 08-29-2004 06:34 AM

my favorite book is POA. then comes goblet of fire. then order of the phoenix, then the philosopher's stone and then the chamber of secrets.......

i don't like fantastic beasts & where to find them
and quidditch though the ages that much

LilRavenclaw 11-01-2004 02:42 PM

My favorite book... well books because I don't have a favorite but they go:

1. PoA
2. OotP
3. GoF
4. CoS
5. Fantastic Beasts
6. PS
7. Quidditch Through the Ages

WildAboutHarry 11-04-2004 10:43 PM

Well, if the trend holds out, my favorite will be number 7 -- I like each one better than the last. :)

And I love the textbooks. They're adorable (for textbooks, anyway).

tonks26 11-05-2004 06:49 PM

My absolute fave is Goblet of Fire--the action pace was just exhilirating, and at the end I cried and was moved by Dumbledore's speech about Cedric.

Next is POA/OoTP - they're on a same level cause I cant decide wihich is better...POA because there was a lot of history in it (Marauders, James and Lily's death, etc)...OoTP' s great too, but I can't help but feel a bit unsatisfied with it...I really thought that after Voldemort's return in GoF the action would really start in Book 5...

....oh well. I guess OotP is the 'calm before the storm'...the Second War begins in HBP :)

RedMartini 11-12-2004 11:13 PM

It's a tie between POA and OoP.

LordSidious 11-17-2004 09:45 AM

I really like Ootp

Padfoot-ranger 12-02-2004 06:51 AM

I have a bad habit of when the newest book comes out, that's my favorite. So when OOTP came out, it was my favorite. But after the "newness" of it weared off, it was actually one of my lesser favorites (but i still dont think i have a least favorite, they are all too good for that)

But defintily, my all-time favorite, is CoS. Dont ask me why cuz i can never really explain it, but i LOVE it. Its the best. Maybe because it stands so well on its own, but all of them kind of do.

But yeah, its CoS all the way!

TimeTurnerKeeper 12-03-2004 09:16 AM

i love all the Harry Potter books...

SeekerSmookyPoo 01-03-2005 04:35 AM

1) Goblet Of Fire
2)Order Of The Phoenix
3)Chamber Of Secrets
4)POA
5)Fantasic Beasts and Where to Find Them
6)Quidditch Through the Ages

PS isn't really on my list...

TeganWR 01-06-2005 03:32 PM

Well I originally liked The Prisoner of Azkaban because Remus came into the book, he's my total favorite, and then the whole Sirius thing came up, but now I can't decide between Prisoner of Azkaban and Order of the Pheonix because I love that book, even though its sad. I can't get enough of any of the books though, I wish they were longer though so maybe they would last me longer than a day.

Homing Hippogriffs 01-30-2005 10:06 AM

My Favourite book would have to be The Prisoner of Azkaban.

1. POA
2. OOTP
3. GOF
4. COS
5. PS

Ms. Patil 01-30-2005 10:36 AM

I like POA and GOF both. Can't decide which one's better. And yes! All the HP books are a class of their own, needless to say...

chantal 01-30-2005 06:32 PM

I lov all the books but my fav in order are:
1.GOF
2.COS
3.PS
4.POA
5.OOTP
6.Fantastic Beasts
7.Quidditch

TeganWR 02-14-2005 11:34 PM

Okay, here's the order that I like the books,
1-Prisoner of Azkaban
2-Order of the Pheonix, (Oh, so sad, Sirius was my fav character, lolz)
3-Goblet of Fire
4-Chamber of Secrets
5-Sorcerers Stone

IckleRonnyPrefectLuvrr 03-19-2005 01:13 AM

1.GOF
2.COS
3.OOTP
4.POA
5.SS/PS

But I have to say that I basically love them all the same! It is VERY close. They all just beat each other a little bit!

Lyra 04-10-2005 02:08 PM

I can't put them in any order, I don't even know which book I prefer. But when I first read HP I liked PoA most so I'll answer that.

VenusAngel21 06-01-2005 04:22 PM

1. GOF
2. PS
3.COS
4. POA
5.OOTP

I didn't care too much for Ootp. I just hope the HBP is more GOF style. :flower:

SnoggingLupin13 06-01-2005 04:26 PM

1. PoA
2. OotP
3. GoF
4. CoS
5. SS/PS

How could you not like OotP and PoA? they were sooooooooo good!

SASCH 06-01-2005 04:37 PM

i like POA the best..

Ozzy 06-06-2005 03:51 AM

i would have to say
Prizoner of Azkaban
reason
just is..

trixterrx20 08-10-2005 01:05 PM

1-half blood prince
2-goblet of fire
3-chamber of secrets
4-Order of the phoenix
5-prisoner of askaban
6-sorcerer's stone

Natisia 10-09-2005 06:11 PM

GoF is my fave

Mrs Felton 10-09-2005 06:16 PM

PoA is my fave by far.. Remus, Sirius, Marauders Map and an awesome plot!! Yep PoA!!

Fortune_Cookie 10-11-2005 05:23 PM

The Goblet of Fire is my favorite. It was really cool because you got introduced to all these new characters that are so different. The Yule Ball was a good chapter too; it showed the characters growing up a bit more. And, like all the other books, it was very unpredictable.

valera 10-20-2005 07:45 AM

i reread PS again recently and it surprised me that how different it is compared to GoF and above
PS seems to childish but it was not like that the first time i read it a few years ago, but still funny and entertaining nevertheless

so this is my list.

1. Goblet of Fire
2. Prisoner of Azkaban
3. Order of the Phoenix
4. Chamber of Secret
5. Half-Blood Prince
6. The Philosopher's Stone

but it doesn't mean that PS is a bad book
i love them all aalll of them of course :balloon:

Nabs 10-20-2005 01:47 PM

my favourite is definitely goblet of fire, i guess cos its the first one i read and then re read....again and again until i got the rest..but i still love it the most.

Lefty2410 11-19-2005 11:51 PM

Has to be HBP because of the twists and complications and of course the many romances.

X-Girl 12-07-2005 11:13 AM

OOTP NO DOUBT! I just loved this book. It was actually the first one I read completely the first day I got it....
I love Siry and the whole Snape Occlumency/Umbridge was sureal!
~~RQT

Yasminalina 12-16-2005 12:10 AM

For me its: GOF, because there was all the Yule Ball, and the competiton and stuff. And the chapter: The Unexpected Task is my favourite chapter in all the HP books which is in GOF. Then comes HBP after GOF, because of all the love and the relationships.

Lady_Voldemort 01-14-2006 03:23 PM

Either GOB or HBP. I found GOB exciting to read, and I liked how JKR introduced new characters with the Triwizard cup. The story signals the start of darker times with the return of Voldemort and death of Cedric *sob*.

HBP I liked also because it was well-written and detailed. It revealed Snape as the 'spinner' of lies-whether he is truly dark will (hopefully) be revealed in book 7. I hope not, although the odds are few. I'm sure JKR has a few twists up her sleeve.. ;)

Steffi 01-17-2006 07:47 AM

PoA was amazing. But my favourite book has to be the latest. As Harry gains more knowledge of the wizarding world I think the books get better. So Half Blood Prince is my favourite.
But I love them all so much!

best deatheater 01-17-2006 03:26 PM

1.Half Blood prince
2.Order Of the Phoenix
3.Goblet of Fire
4.Prisoner of Azkaban
5.Philosopher's Stone
6.Chamber of Secrets

Hlaf Blood plenty of Snape moments and questions answered. It is unique from the other books as the whole atmosphere is tense. Order is great cos it has Umbridge and a great battle sequence at the end. Goblet Voldemort at the end and Triwizard cup. PoA has Lupin and sirius and Snape. The marauders are introduced. The dementors and the knight bus all great qualities. Philosopher's Stone cos its what got me started and had a lot of Snape moments and Voldemort at the end. chamber is good but not as good as the rest the characters are good but theres something about the bit in the middle is slightly boring. But of course the whole Riddle ending is superb.

ashu_11 01-29-2006 07:59 AM

Ilove all Hp books but i`ll choose COS as the best. The list goes on as:
hbo
Gof
oop
poa
philosophers stone

Kira Radcliffe 01-29-2006 08:19 AM

love them all but:
1) gof
2) poa
3) hbp
4) ootp
5) quidditch through the ages
6) fantastic beasts and where to find them
7) cos
8) ps

rifraparo90 02-02-2006 02:30 AM

well for me it has to be HBP, its really dark & begins a new path for Harry to take , its really sad... i hope JK will still continue writing about Harry after the 7th book... or a new series of books with a different dtory perhaps. :wizard:

FearlessLeader19 04-03-2006 07:47 AM

my fave book is HBP

Kasia 04-03-2006 01:35 PM

PoA was the best imho. Then there's OotP. HBP it's after them, then GoF, CoS, PS.

griffin_girl 04-03-2006 01:42 PM

GoF! yeah!:woot:

lightstar1154 04-03-2006 07:42 PM

PoA has been my favorite forever, and will probably remain so... love the plot, the characters (Lupin :) ), the divination, the map... everything. I'm not saying it's the most well written... that would probably OotP, however it's the story I enjoyed the most, and I think that is what matters.

slytherin's_advent 04-03-2006 08:14 PM

Well, Im note a bookist and I'm not really interested in reading but I definitely love all the books of J.k especially the CoS.

britishgrl09 04-04-2006 01:49 AM

I love them all, so it was hard to choose, but I pick kthe Half-blood prince.

potterfantatio 04-04-2006 06:37 AM

I'll pick GoF, OOTP and HBP.

sparklystuff 04-04-2006 07:10 AM

OOTP is my favorite! It's the longest and the best! :P Then HBP and PoA, because I'm such a Marauder fangirl.

Firebolt 04-04-2006 07:16 AM

GOF and the HBP

SnoggingLupin13 04-07-2006 01:39 AM

Just PoA for me. That book is clinging to my heart and it won't let go... I think it's the wonderful plotting that sets up the characters for the rest of the series that makes me love it so much.

Unidentified101 04-07-2006 11:16 PM

My all time favorite book is Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and also Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is my third choice of my favorite books. I think I'm going to love the next book(s) because the darkness is increasing dramatically.

Egyptian_Blue 04-09-2006 09:47 PM

My favorite book was Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Most of myfriends hate this book, but I love the whole concept of Tom Riddle coming back as a memory. And of course, Lockheart is such an interesting, though idiotic, character.

siriusly_loving_gary 04-18-2006 06:33 PM

I'm with you there. PoA is an amazing book it has this wonderful and twisted plot that I love so much.

Egyptian_Blue 04-27-2006 08:03 PM

I have a tie...
Chamber of Secrets
and
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

They are great books

Faerilicious 05-11-2006 09:36 AM

I really like all of the books...but if u ask me which was the worst of the series so far...I would say COS....though I like the book....I don't like it as much as I like the others...if you know what I mean.

The text books were ok...not my fav...but then again...they are not supposed to be something you would enjoy(well Hermione is an Exception).

jk fan 05-14-2006 09:43 PM

i love Harry potter and the order of the pheonix

LadyNerd 05-22-2006 11:21 PM

I have to say that my favorite book is Order of the Phoenix!! I become an emotional roller coaster with this book and that is what I love about it. Harry's attitude iw aht makes this book for me, along with finding out more about Sirius and the Marauder's. I get so angry with Harry in this book because there are several things that he does that just....whoa....I cannot explain. The fact with the mirror and he never used it, blah, and the fact that Sirius fell through the veil (I will not say that he is dead, he is just forever falling), all I have to say is, wow once more!!!

Ally_W 05-27-2006 05:15 PM

It's got to be GOF. It's the most exciting, lots of fun stuff happens but it's also an emotionally turning point. I really enjoyed reading it. I also love PS.

Nienna 06-24-2006 12:04 AM

my fave books are HBP,PoA and GoF after is OOPT because Sirius died in that book

Ellen4Potter 06-30-2006 11:37 PM

its hard to say , between these great HP books I choose one, all of them are great and have thier own effects on a reader. but I think first Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and second Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix are great just because of perfect imag9inations which is for JO herself.
in other books we can just see recreating old legends and myths. but these two last books are so creative and mysterious :)

i-who-must-not-be-named 07-10-2006 09:09 AM

Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire!

Little Trooper 07-11-2006 12:07 AM

I liked both Harry Potter and the Prizoner of Azkaban and the Goblet of Fire

Hermionespell 07-15-2006 02:27 PM

Personally, I like all the books she's written later in Harry's life. Philosopher's Stone, Chamber of Secrets, and Prisoner of Azkaban are still a little too kiddish for me...but maybe that's just because there aren't any significant deaths in those books.
