Who else thinks that Remus and Dora were a bit... wow, rushed?
I mean, we find out in the first chapter that they're married, and I just fall off my chair and go "What, really?". Then, we find out a month or less later that Tonks is pregnant, which shocked me even more! And then we hear nothing of them until the Spring, when it's suddenly announced that she's had the baby! Does anyone else agree with me that it was (although very very very brilliantly amazingly) rushed?

Not at all. The relationship was started in the previous book so it was a natural progression.

Their relationship progressed in book 6, even if it wasn't all that known. It might seem WHAM cause you might've not read the 6th book before getting the 7th...
I didn't, but I remember the Half-Blood Prince clearly (definitely more clearly than the OotP, that's for sure!).
So it was somewhat rushed marriage-wise, but that's cause of the dark times. Remember Mrs. Weasley said Bill and Fleur were rushing it, getting married so soon? Dark times, more pressure to live, etc.

Quote:
Although i never actually realised that they were dead until i re-read the paragraph
I kept reading cause I thought it meant they were ACTUALLY sleeping! Seriously... it was written something along the lines of 'Remus and Tonks appeared asleep...' etc, so I thought they were taking a nap or something...
Then a pageish later I realized and burst into tears... I cried the most when Lupin said:
"I was trying to make a world in which he could live a happier life"
It was just the realization of their newborn son, Ted, not being able to know their parents, no memories whatsoever...
I'm happy Lupin and Tonks died together though, that's better than leaving Tonks alone or Lupin alone... suffering without the other being there...

But I do wish their death was explained more, it was more WHAM! They're dead compared to WHAM! They're married in the beginning and WHAM! Expecting a child a month later.

But overall it wasn't too rushed, not like WHAM or anything, just somewhat fast, but it was dark times...

I actually thought it was slightly rushed, because in the 6th book it was like, 'I can't be with you, I'm old, poor and a werewolf', and then they were all happy at the funeral. So really from that point I thought it was rushed, as the funeral would have been in June or July and they were married by the end of July. Unless they thought it would be best to get married incase something happened, or that they wouldn't have the chance later, I don't know...

It was somewhat rushed, but I think it still worked out well. The biggest shock for me was their death. That's the part I think was truly rushed, as in the way it was written.

I thought the baby was slightly rushed. One minute there married, the next Tonks is pregnant and the next she's had the baby! But I though the idea of a metamorphagus werewolf sounded so funny! Their deaths were so sudden, their deaths were the only deaths that weren't described in the book, it just suddenly happened with no explaination of how or why they died.

That's the whole point. As Molly said in Half-Blood Prince, war changes people. Feelings and emotions become heightened and intensified...baby booms are a well known pre-empt to war.

I don't think it was that rushed. I mean they could have gone slower but either way they would have died. I'm still in dinial about them being dead. I keep on telling myself that they had been stuned and everyone was just being stupid and not checking to see if they were alive.

Well in the end of the last book Tonks was yelling at Lupin telling him to get over the fact that he was a werewolf, that she didn't care and that she loved him!

I felt their storyline was rushed, yes. I also thought Lupin wanting to join the trio on their search for the Horcruxes was way out of character, even if he was feeling stressed in his relationship with Tonks. It was just weird. O.o

I thought that in the book it seemed rushed because we kept hearing just little snippets whereas with Harry we had almost day-to-day coverage so it just seemed like so much because it was all sprung on us.

Like Mrs. Weasley said in the 6th book, everyone is eloping because they think they're going to be dead the next day, which is what happened in their case. It sounded, by Tonks' description, like they had eloped since it was such a small ceremony...but it was like, 3 weeks after Dumbledore's death, which was a bit rushed. I know it was all sweet and romantic that they died together, but it angered me a bit that they didn't think about the baby before running off into the battle...poor Teddy is now subjected to Harry's fate, even if he does get a happier childhood than Harry ever did.

The REAL Sorting Hat: "Ravenclaw!" This monkey is bananas.

Dora and Lupin were meant to be together, the war just pushed them to get going. I was jumping up and down shouting my head off when I read they got married, then when the baby was born I completely flipped out...then cried my head off when they died, it was so tragic yet necessary in a sad way. They knew Ted would grow up in a new changed world, one without Voldemort, one with love and peace, which is what they wanted for him.

Though it was rushed it's actually not that unsual for people get / married have children in times of conflict. Sirus made the statement that its a war that was beginning and even in real life wars produce marriages and children due to the emotions that are created.

Also I am not sure if anyone else has made the connection but do you get impression that Ted is just a younger version of Harry.... He has no living family other than Harry who is his Godfather, a Godfather.

^ I did see the connection between Harry and Ted. Although I believe that Ted was raised by his grandmother; Andromeda, and that she doted on him, unlike Harry's upbringing.

I don't really think Remus and Tonks' relationship was rushed, I think their deaths were rushed! What happened to them??? I had to re-read the paragragh to make sure what I read was what I thought I read! I'm dissappointed that JKR didn't at least explain who killed them or how they died. I hold out hope that Jo writes a HP encyclopedia and explains all in there.

I think that it was kinda rushed, but remeber something that Mrs Wealsey once said, when Voldemort came the first time people were getting married and what not, and now that he's was back Remus and Tonks probably didn't want to die before marring, and they did die, but they had a kid..........

I think their deaths were definitely rushed and I want to know how they died!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But yeah, Teddy sounds more like a younger version of Neville though b/c he was probably raised by Andromeda his grandma. I wasn't expecting a baby so soon though, and Lupin's reaction (wanting to go on the Horcrux hunt) made me suspect that he'd been Imperiused or something!!!!!!! But at least they were together when they died. ♥

I didn't think it was terribly rushed. I mean, though I love Remus and Tonks, they aren't essential characters to the plot. I think that theirs was supposed to be a little bit of light and love in the dark world, along with Bill and Fleur.

What I absolutely hated, though, was their death. I figured they probably would die, but it felt as though there really wasn't any consideration given to it. Yeah, they got to utter a few final words at Harry's death march, but... I dunno. Considering he was the last of the Marauders, I would have thought that his death, at least, would get a bit more attention.

The relationship, when the kids were on the run, that seemed pretty normal for it to progress a little quickly.

I don't think that it was rushed.....considering it was a time of war, and they both knew they could die at any moment......Um, for a normal, non-war time relationship, I guess it wasn't rushed, but I mean, they were meant for each other, so why not?

Even though there's the point about it being wartime, and that makes people rush into marriages and stuff... I still think that it was really rushed!
When Tonks and Lupin were arguing in the Hospital Wing, that was about a month before the new book started, right? They were just talking about getting together then, and suddenly they're together. Then they get married two weeks later, and get pregnant a month after that... I'm surprised they had time to breathe! So, I was shocked, yeah!

(btw, does anyone know why Harry isn't taking care of Teddy when's he's his godfather? Just thought I would ask... )

^ Harry was only 17 when Tonks and Remus died - that's far too young to take responsibility of a baby, especially considering Harry is finally able to live a free life. Being godfather doesn't automatically make Harry Ted's guardian - I suspect Andromeda is Ted's guardian, and she is the best suited since she has just lost her husband and daughter, all she has left is Teddy. Only when she is unable to look after him would Harry take full responsibility of Teddy.

Yeah I noticed this too. I thought it was funny cuz it was a little like Neville and Harry together. No parents, but raised by grandmother, but has godfather.

I, too, thought that the whole Lupin/Tonks thing was rushed. I mean, one second they're married, the next she's pregnant, then they have the baby, and then they die! I was hoping there might be a mistake in the printing though when I read that part.
