If sitting inside just isn't your thing, Floreans offers you an alternative option to wandering the streets of Diagon with your tasty confection. Outside of the shop doors, in a small, well-kept courtyard out of the way of the hustle and bustle of the rest of Diagon Alley, there can be found small, colourful tables with a handful of equally colourful chairs scattered about. While our ice cream is charmed to be slow-melting, our customers, we assume, are not, and thus each table is equipped with an umbrella that can be opened or closed at your discretion. These tables, like the ones inside, can be pushed together or pulled apart to accommodate any size party, but please do take care to think of others who might be sitting around you!
A napkin dispenser can be found at every table, along with a small wooden stand bearing spare plastic spoons and a bunch of small, prepackaged wet-wipes to help clean up those sticky hands.
And please don't try to remove any of the tables or chairs from the courtyard. The seating, while not fixed down, is charmed to be unable to leave the small space. So don't get any ideas! Just sit back, relax, and enjoy your ice cream.
Another spoonful was eating and savored for a few seconds as the girl sat down and introduced herself. "It's nice to meet you, Nerissa. Are you going to Hogwarts in September?" Rylee thought she looked about the right age and assumed she was most likely going into her first year if she was correct. She didn't recall seeing her there this past term so it was a good guess if anything.
She smiled nodding in agreement, feet swinging back and forth as she couldn't entirely reach the ground on these seats. "I like all the seasons. Each one is different but always has something fun to look forward to." Rylee didn't care what the weather was if she wasn't horribly ill or the weather outside wasn't extremely dangerous it was a safe bet to make that she was somewhere outdoors doing something to burn off a bit of her energy. "Mhmm. I come here whenever I get the chance to. I like looking in the shops but mostly I enjoy coming to get ice cream and seeing my friends." Or making new friends! There was always people in Diagon Alley.
"Nice to meet you too!" The girl replied, nodding again and taking a small spoonful of ice cream. "Mmm, this is really yummy." She excitedly looked up when Rylee asked if she was going to Hogwarts this September. "I am!! I can't wait! Do you go there?" It was more a polite question than anything. Nerissa assumed Rylee did go to Hogwarts because she seemed to be slightly older than herself.
Nerissa listened to the older girl as she spoke about all seasons having something fun they could look forward to. "That's true." She nodded again, as she thought about the fun things she could do in each different season. Play in the snow when it snowed in the winter... eat some tasty fruits and walk on crunchy orange leaves in the autumn, eat ice cream and play outside in the summer and smell all of the flowers in the spring. "You're right!"
So Rylee also liked Diagon Alley. "You always come here when you come to Diagon Alley then?" As in Florean Fortescue's. She said she enjoyed getting ice cream and seeing friends? "I like it too, but I'm usually at Flourish and Blotts." The redhead added with a nod.
It wasn't often, in the past, that Kaiser had really had enough money to spare for something so simple yet so frivolous as ice cream. Weaving through the already situated people, Kaiser headed directly for one of the few tables that wasn't occupied, already attacking his ice cream as he went.

Laurel was at her best munching on her trio of strawberry, vanilla and rocky road scoops of ice cream when Imogen ducked under the umbrella that she was sitting at. Looking up a warm beam spreading her features at the sight of her very close friend Laurel said. "Yes, dreamy good Immy. Floreans icecream is always so yummy. What flavours did you get?"
Standing up to embrace Imogen in a hug, she waited to answer until she had pulled back. "I've missed you too Immy! I'm good and Oliver and Nicholas are both well. They are actually both engaged to be married and expecting children soon. So how are you and the girls?" She knew that Immy soon enough would be bringing up Kay. Taking a seat in the table chair again she took another icecream scoop before everything melted.
Imogen grinned when Laurel commented about the icecream always being yummy. It was the truth, no one could really top the Floreans brand of icecream…especially however they made it melt-free. That was a brilliant trick even if melting icecream was honestly a treat in and of itself.
”Oh, I got raspberry, lemon, and a bit of chocolate…I can’t not get chocolate that would have been so sad” truly, Imogen was a fiend for chocolate. Imogen was happy, really, to be there embracing her friend. ”Lau, I’m so happy for them and for you…so, you know you are always welcome to just pop into my place or floo there whenever you need to chat…its going to be lonely without the girls” she admitted and really, she wanted her friend to feel welcome whenever she needed an escape.
Right. The girls. ”oh,…Anabeth, well she demands to be called Beth now is a bit of spitfire, she demanded to go to diagon alley alone the other day and well, I made her think she was alone” she laughed more to herself than to anyone in particular ”I watched her meet this kid that told her she was littering and she had the guts to say she was feeding faeries…when we got home I found there was a hole in her pocket…she just, didn’t want to own up to it in the playground area with that kid” she smiled over to her, ”and Cord…she’s insisting on going to Beauxbaton like her gran did…they’re a handful but I love them,” there wasn’t anyway she wouldn’t love them, they were her flesh and blood. Her family.
”Um…I do want to ask about Kay…you know, more to ask if she’s feeling better after everything” because truthfully, after reading that article Imogen swore that Kay was obviously under someone else’s control…or she had been a really good actress while she had taught alongside of her. The muggle studies Professor had always been kind and sweet, and not…fanatical in the least. ”other than that…you know I want to ask about everything, I’ve missed so much”

The warm friendly smile on the twelve year old's face remained even as she ate another spoonful of her ice cream. "Mhmm... the ice cream here is amazing!" she giggled happily. "Uh-huh. I'll be a second year now. I was super excited when I started last term but I think I'm even more excited about this year." Rylee couldn't wait to learn even more and get better and all the spells she already knew. Not to mention Reese would be coming to Hogwarts with her too! "What are you most excited about?"
Rylee giggled between spoonfuls of ice cream. "Every season had it's own special qualities." Truthfully she did prefer the warmer calmer weather where she could be outside dancing, swimming, flying or exploring but the rain and snow had it's perks too.
"Well not always but I try to when I can." Rylee nodded. "During the summer lots of students from Hogwarts are here... it's one of the easiest places to make friends." At least in her opinion anyhow. Nerissa's reply got her attention and made her smile even more. "Oh! You like to read too?!"

It wasn't often, in the past, that Kaiser had really had enough money to spare for something so simple yet so frivolous as ice cream. While she'd found some of the other shops here more (or less) interesting, this appeared to be the most popular part of Diagon Alley. Which usually spoke to its quality. The weather might not have been as warm as summers were back home in New Zealand, but Anahera had found that it was still definitely warm enough for ice cream.
Holding her cone of pumpkin pasty flavored ice cream, she too appeared to have spotted the same vacant table and made her way over to it swiftly, unaware at first that she had competition. Almost there, she did, however, notice that someone else appeared to be headed for that exact same empty table which only made her walk faster. This was her table. Probably milliseconds before the boy reached the table, Anahera slid into one of the chairs and...grinned up at him.

Licking on his cone just like his sister Jackson, stopped mid lick to look amazed at a passing boy with a big snake in a cage. "Mummy, do they allow kids to have just about any pet they want at Hogwarts? I want something cool." What cool was the 7 year old didn't really know, but he had heard the word on the TV and he was fond of using it.
Smiling hugely up at his mom Jackson was about to ask about snakes when Gemma started to cry loudly and wibble which made daddy pick her up, in his lap to soothe her. Not wanting mummy to focus on his sister too Jackson got up out of his seat and walked across to his mother and asked hopefully with puppy eyes. "Mummy, can we go now and look at the snaksies?"
Oh no!
She watched as Gemma started to cry and Leo picked her up. She did enjoy the sweet moments. "Here sweetie just take the rest of mine." She really didn't mind and if it kept her from making a huge scene then it was well worth it. She smiled at Jackson as he watched people and commented. Her children were growing way too fast and she wouldn't be ready to send them off. So many Professors were gone since their time working there and still things going on there that did make her nervous about her children being there without one of them.
"No they don't, those children might just be getting it for home. You are only allowed to have an Owl, Cat, or Rat. Though Pygmy Puffs are allowed as well." She wondered if maybe they had updated the list by now, but it wasn't that big of a deal, her own children wouldn't be getting anything crazy.
Looking over to Jackson as he wanted to leave already she just smiled at him, "Not right now honey, let's just enjoy our ice cream for now and we will go see the animals in a little bit."
Now on daddy's lap Gemma put her face into his chest to whimper. She wanted her ice cream, but she did enjoy daddy's attention as well. So she kept the tears even though she heard her mom's voice asking about her own ice cream. "No, I want my own. I don't like your kind. Daddy pwease get me a new one." She didn't talk baby talk unless she was trying to get something and right now she wanted more ice cream.
Hearing Jackson talk about snakes she peared out of her hiding spot on her dad's lap to look at him through her tears. "No snakes they are scary." Her lip wibbled a bit more not wainting to see those things, they have her the creeps.

"Are you not in the mood to try some magical flavours?" Laurel asked as she scooped up another spoonful of ice-cream into her mouth. Granted she hadn't either but it was because her thoughts had gone to Kay so it had become muggle all the way. Beaming she said "Thank you so much Immy! I'll tell my brothers. It will be weird to attend their weddings I always thought I'd get married first."
Reaching a hand out to squeeze one of Immy's she said affectionately. "Thank you, I'll remember that. Circe knows that the last part of the school term wasn't easy. But your girl's wow they're old enough to start Hogwarts already?" Laurel had never been good at remembering ages of either relatives or friends children. The story of Beth's encounter with a boy that accused her of littering and her solution made her laugh out loud. "Good on Beth. She'll manage fine at Hogwarts I predict. But Cordelia going to Beauxbatons, does she know any French?" It was kind of needed wasn't it if you went to a french school?
Then of course Immy had to bring up the subject that Laurel least of all wanted to talk about; Kay. She took a breath and ate another spoon of icecream before she answered "Kay is getting better. She is getting treatment at St Mungos. I go visit her every other day." She had read the prophet article too but it hadn't said everything and she didn't know who was listening so she just left at it that. Raising her brow's next Laurel asked "What everything? I'm still dating Aaron as you know. Have you found someone to date lately Immy?"

Looking down into his daughter's eyes he smiled warmly. "Of course I'll buy you a new one sweetie. What flavours do you want on your cone?" Anything to avoid causing a scene, more tears and wailing. Gemma's voice could chatter glass when she was very upset.
Leo's attention momentarily went over to his son as he asked Cassie about going to look at cool creatures and most of all to look at snakes. Smiling over at him he said "As your mummy said Jackson let's finish our ice cream's first. I don't think the creatures shop owner will be pleased if we arrive with food. It might make the creatures anxious."
Looking over at his wife he asked "Do you want some coffee or anything if go get Gem a new cone of ice cream?"

"Owl, cat, rat, toad, pygmy puff." Jackson repeated after his mum had said what pet's were allowed at Hogwarts. Not understand exactly why there was a limit he asked dumbfounded "But mummy I don't get it why can't the student's bring any pet they want? Like if someone wanted to bring a pig, a goat or even a parrot?" It was confusing.
Turning away from the people passing by Jackson was focusing on licking on his ice cream when Gemma of course had to say that snakes were scary which made him huff loudly. "No THey are Not! Snakes are COol!" Next minute his lip was wibbling as he turned to his father since they couldn't go yet to the animal shop. "Daddy, tell her pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee?"
Reese made his way to the seating area with his ginormous ice cream cone. It was his most favorite flavors all stacked on top of each other, Pink raspberry, Razzleberry Blue, and Choco Fantasy! ... True.. It was an odd combination, but then again.. So was he.. His copper curls were somewhat tangled from him running around without much care for how he looked. He was always on the move. So, this was a rare moment of quiet stillness.
He found a table off to the side and sat with his feet dangling as he set to eating his frozen treat. He looked around and saw a lot of different faces.. None of which looked familiar.. Hmm?.. Maybe he should stick around and see if he might be able to meet some new people...

Emmalyn was exhausted and starving from all the shopping she had done that day. Her books were purchase, her new broom was on its way to Hogwarts, shipped early so she didn’t need to manage it herself on the train, and her new robes were packaged up and ready for the year to start.
After picking out her favorite flavors, a scoop of tomato soup on top of a scoop of jalapeno and cheese in a cup, she ventured out to the courtyard seating area. Not surprisingly, most of the tables were full of students and their families. Her bags were being carried in one hand, getting heavier by the second, and her ice cream was held in the other. She couldn’t just stand there and eat, so she headed towards the only table in sight that still had empty seats.
There was already a younger boy sitting a the table, seemingly enjoying his treat. He looked nice enough, and she was hungry, so she walked up to the empty chair next to his. “Mind if I join you?” She asked with her brightest smile. She sun was shining on her pale face, bringing out the tiniest bit of red in her dark hair.

", he replied just before trying to catch up with the melting ice cream that was dripping down the sides of his cone. He didn't think she sounded at all overly formal in her introduction. In fact he appreciated her straight shooter-ness " Mhmmm.. I'll be a first year when term starts. My sister's gonna be a second year too!.. Do ya know her?.. Rylee Prichard?!", Reese asked excitedly." No worries.. I wouldn't wanna hafta eat standin' up by myself all awkward either..", He added.
Reese smiled as she took and shook his sticky hand.. She was already okay in his book. She wasn't all stuck up and turn down his sticky paw. " The pleasure's all mine, Emmalyn. ", he replied just before trying to catch up with the melting ice cream that was dripping down the sides of his cone. He didn't think she sounded at all overly formal in her introduction. In fact he appreciated her straight shooter-ness " Mhmmm.. I'll be a first year when term starts. My sister's gonna be a second year too!.. Do ya know her?.. Rylee Prichard?!", Reese asked excitedly." No worries.. I wouldn't wanna hafta eat standin' up by myself all awkward either..", He added.
Watching his ice cream melt down his cone, she was glad she had decided to get her treat in a cup. Sure, the cone was one of the best parts, but she was never good at eating ice cream quickly and the day was too warm for a leisurely lick.
"Oh, yes! I do know Rylee! She's a Gryffindor." Her face lit up with excitement. "That must be neat being able to go to school with your sister." Emmalyn had always wanted siblings. A little brother was at the top of her list. "Do you think you will be a Gryffindor like she is?" Is that how it worked? She knew the Sorting Hat picked which house you were in, but she wasn't sure if it kept family members in the same house or not. "Well, if you aren't in Gryffindor with your sister, I sure do hope you get Hufflepuff. It's such a wonderful house and everyone is so nice."
Scooping up another bite of her ice cream, she let the coolness melt over her tongue and then slowly travel down to her stomach. The day had gotten much warmer than she expected, and the cold ice cream was hitting the spot.

"Owl, cat, rat, toad, pygmy puff." Jackson repeated after his mum had said what pet's were allowed at Hogwarts. Not understand exactly why there was a limit he asked dumbfounded "But mummy I don't get it why can't the student's bring any pet they want? Like if someone wanted to bring a pig, a goat or even a parrot?" It was confusing.
Turning away from the people passing by Jackson was focusing on licking on his ice cream when Gemma of course had to say that snakes were scary which made him huff loudly. "No THey are Not! Snakes are COol!" Next minute his lip was wibbling as he turned to his father since they couldn't go yet to the animal shop. "Daddy, tell her pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee?"
Her children were so fun to watch and so different from each other. She knew Gemma had her daddy wrapped around her finger, but what girl didn't for the most part. Gemma was a daddy's girl like she had been. She couldn't help but smile as she watched the two interact. "No, I don't need anything else, but thank you." Her husband was always thinking of her and it was sweet, even after all these years they were so in love.
Finishing her own ice cream she took her attention back to her son ad tried to explain the best she could as she reached for Gemma to sit back in her own seat so Leo could go get the ice cream. "Well if we were all allowed to bring any animal we wanted there would be chaos in the dorms and the mess they would make would be more trouble then what was needed. School is for learning, not playing, and animals can be a distraction." Especially if your seer abilities were with animals.
"Now no fighting, we are having a lovely day. Anymore of that and we won't be going to any stores once we are done." Which would be a shame with how nice the day has been.
She moved from her daddy's lap with a smile, "I want a sherbert one. Maybe the orange sherbert, please daddy." Giving him a very big puppy-eyed look she smiled happy that she was getting another one.
"They are so scary and gross. I want a puppy, puppies are cute." Kittens were too, could they get a kitten as well? She looked at her mom when she said they wouldn't go anywhere and gave her brother a mean look, it was his fault for wanting to go see snakes.
"I'm sorry mommy, I won't fight anymore but I don't want to go see the snakes." She wouldn't be giving that up too easy.
Lex walked out to the courtyard holding her ice cream cone. Nothing wrong with classic vanilla, she thought as she took a lick. Today's weather was perfect for ice cream.
She saw an open seat, and sat down. Her parents were somewhere around - they'd said to wait for them here. Lex had decided to buy herself an ice cream while she waited - she was hungry, and besides... she deserved to celebrate the occasion - her very first upcoming year at Hogwarts!
Lex licked happily at her ice cream, dreamily gazing around her at all of the other people who were enjoying a nice treat. She wondered how many of them were first years like herself. Hopefully she could meet some new friends before starting off her time at the castle. It would always be lovely to know some familiar faces.
Summer had been relatively uneventful, but Soraya had tried to make the best of it by doing little activities throughout the past few weeks. Her parents were more helicopter-y than usual, so it made things difficult for her, especially since all she wanted to do was hang out with her friends and just be free.
She'd decided that a day with her bestie~ would cheer her up, and there was really nothing better than eating ice cream in the summer with your friends. After purchasing her ice cream, Soraya found a table off to the side and sat down so she could wait for Tessa.

She wasn't sure what had gone wrong to make him such a grump. "I shouldn't say such negative things about him. His classes are hard, but I think he tries to make them interesting for us." That was better than saying he was just simply mean for the fun of it.
"Are there any classes you are especially looking forward to? I guess it would be a bit different coming from a family that had attended Hogwarts. It's not all a big mystery to you." She wondered if he already knew some things from growing up with wizards and witches in the family.

Harriet was happy for some time with her father. She didn't see him that much, considering she was away at Hogwarts for most of the year. But she was a daddy's girl, and so wanted to spend as much time with him as she could. After she had gotten her final Hogwarts letter, with the added weight of the badge in it, she had known she wanted to have a father-daughter date. Of course she adored her mother too, but she just wanted to spend some good quality time with her father. She'd suggested Floreans, since she knew that they both adored ice cream. And what better way to celebrate the start of her seventh year, and getting prefected, than with ice cream.
"Hmm.... What are you gonna have dad?" She asked, as she plonked herself onto a chair in the courtyard. She picked up the menu, and had a little look through. "Soo much choiceee" Which made it so much harder. What to pick!

She was quite aware that her name was a mouthful. "I don't mind one bit. I'm called Emma, Em, and Lyn as well as Emmalyn." She wasn't sure which nickname was her favorite. They were all a bit special to her. Professor Stewart was the one to first call her Lyn, which made it extra neat, but several of her quidditch teammates used Em.
"Potions can be rather tricky and dangerous. I almost cut off my finger last year prepping a pumpkin for one of the potions." That was a bit of an exaggeration. In truth, it had only been a minor cut, but just a bit to the left, and her entire finger could have been gone. She smiled, remembering how many students had injuries after that class and even one had passed out. So much excitement that she never had in her muggle schools.
She nodded as he told her about their shared owl. It did stand to reason they would share an owl. It wouldn't really be necessary to have two at the same place for one family. "I don't have any other pets at school either. I do greatly enjoying playing with the other pets, and those in the barn, but I'm afraid I would forget to feed them with all the classes and such going on. I can be a bit forgetful."
She was also in complete agreement that all creatures, magical or not, were fantastic. They had even been able to work with bats last year. "There is even a cave close by that has loads of bats. We got to feed them last year." Her eyes lit up as she spoke of the day. "They like fruit, and if you hold really still, they will land on your arm and take the fruit from your hand." Then a thought came to her, "Maybe we can ask the professor if we can visit and feed the bats once we get to Hogwarts. I bet they are lonely after the entire summer without students. Would you like to do that?" She figured she better ask. Some were afraid of bats and she didn't want to pressure him into doing something that he was afraid of.
The ice cream parlor had come to be one of the more favorable places to be in her opinion. While she'd found some of the other shops here more (or less) interesting, this appeared to be the most popular part of Diagon Alley. Which usually spoke to its quality. The weather might not have been as warm as summers were back home in New Zealand, but Anahera had found that it was still definitely warm enough for ice cream.
Holding her cone of pumpkin pasty flavored ice cream, she too appeared to have spotted the same vacant table and made her way over to it swiftly, unaware at first that she had competition. Almost there, she did, however, notice that someone else appeared to be headed for that exact same empty table which only made her walk faster. This was her table. Probably milliseconds before the boy reached the table, Anahera slid into one of the chairs and...grinned up at him.
Winning.
Given the way he had grown up, Kaiser was the type to take note of his surroundings almost always without even trying. Even as he zoned in on his target table-and-chair, his brain (and also probably his eyes) alerted him to the fact that he had inadvertantly entered into a race for it. It crossed his mind to stop and slow down, let the girl he was facing off with go ahead and take the table, but Kaiser quickly decided that racing her to it would be far more fun - and gave him a chance at having somewhere to sit - so he picked up the pace.
In the end it was a close call, very close, but a loss was a loss, and he accepted it. Uh. Sort of.
Though he'd lost, Kaiser simply grinned back at the girl, and placed his free hand on the back of the chair opposite her. "For second?" he asked in a mixed accent that was hard to identify in just a few words. A seat at the table, as a prize at least for second place? It probably wouldn't have taken long to wait for another table to free up, but he was here now, after all.

Vi smiled warmly at the older lady's words. Only the very best... It made her feel happy that Ace spoke so highly of her and so often... It must have meant that he really l- cared for her oh so very much. She had mentioned Ace on several occasions to her father and brothers but these days it seemed as if her brothers were more invested than her father was. Her father... just seemed tired -- drained by his taxing work days.
Emmaleigh, hey? She felt a little more relaxed than before. "Okay, Emmaleigh, it is then. Sorry, I Just never know what to refer to my friend's parents as. If its their first name or something else," she offered with a small smile. Ace was here too? He hadn't told her that he would be visiting Diagon Alley today. Sure, she knew that he would be spending the day with his family and she respected that but the likelihood of them both ending up shopping in Diagon Alley after Hogwarts graduation seemed a little small (but not too small) of a chance. Perhaps Ace would stop by later but in the meantime his mother had offered to get some ice cream. Her treat. OOh now Emmaleigh was being a bad influence... and Vi LOVED it. "Sure, ice cream would be wonderful. Thanks," she said with a grin. Though as for a tent... "I'm curious as to where you would purchase a tent from here in Diagon. Planning on going camping?"
Em smiled. “Yeah, that was always kind of confusing. Just wait until you run into your professors now that you've graduated, and have to figure out what to call them. But yeah, Emmaleigh, or even Em is fine. I mean, that’s what Mel and Sam call me.” Even Ace had called her that before she officially became part of the family. “And honestly, the only people who call me Mrs Salander are Sal's work... associates.” She paused momentarily when she was looking for the right word, considering they were definitely not friends. After all, Sal had said himself they mostly just wanted something from him, and now her. “Are you fine with me calling you Vi, or would you prefer something else?” That was what she had always heard her referred to as, but that didn't mean it was what she wanted her to call her.
“Wonderful.” she said thinking they were getting along fine. “And that is a very good question. I was thinking of maybe checking Wiseacre's, but if you have any suggestions, I'm all ears.” There were many shops in Diagon Alley she'd never been to, and maybe Vi had been in one that looked more likely. “Yep, a hiking and camping trip that is actually long overdue, so I'm pretty excited. We're all going with my best friend.”
Heading into Florean's as they chatted, she ordered herself a scoop of Earl Grey and Lavender, and a scoop of Clotted Cream. Once Vi placed her order, she paid for them both. “If we get a table outside, we might catch Ace when he heads back this way.” Leading the way to the courtyard out front, she found them a place to sit where they could see the south side of the street.
