Default The Hair, the Makeup, the Shoes - Sa9+
I'll be defying gravity April 29th!!!

Hey all! This is my 4th ff here and this one is (hopefully) going to be a series of ficlets. My main story is a work in progress: The Wedding and the other two are finished one-shots: Memories and Christmas Surprise. I also have an account and a running story on Wattpad. My account is: AddyRay and my running story that is non-ff is called The Reluctant Prince on Wattpad found here
The book mentioned is A Countess Below Stairs by Eva Ibbotson. It's a very good book. I've read it like 4 times I think and I suggest it as a good and easy read if you are looking for one
This one takes place during Goblet of Fire with Ginny and Hermione.
As always, I do not own anything related to Harry Potter--they are all Ms. Rowling's creation.
Edited version is 14 posts below.
Enjoy and please comment

The Hair, the Makeup, the Shoes

There she was—right where I knew she would be—my best friend, advisor, therapist. Sister. She was sitting, reading, in one of the comfy sofas (in the library of course) and there just so happened to be an empty spot right next to her. I stood at the bookshelf across from her and watched her for a moment before I went over to sit next to her. She looked confused. She sighed lightly as she pulled her gray cardigan tighter—it was, after all the first Saturday in December. She was thinking about something, and hard.

“Hey,” I said, sitting down next to her. She started, but just barely.

“Oh, hey Gin,” she replied, only momentarily looking up from her book.

“Whatcha reading?”

“Huh?”

I pointed to her book. She must really be thinking hard about whatever was occupying her mind because she sure wasn’t reading that in-depth.

“Oh, um, it’s A Countess Below Stairs by Eva Ibbotson. Muggle book. It’s pretty good, really. This is like the third time I’ve read it, I think,” she commented, smiling. She looked up at me and shut the book after carefully placing a bookmark. “Gin, why’d you come up here?”

“Just wanted to talk to you, ‘Mione,” I said immediately, smiling.

“Alright, what do you need to talk about?” She asked, placing the book on the table next to her.

“It’s not important,” I paused. “Spill. What’s got you so confused? I can see it in your face.” She sighed.

“Well, you know how the Yule Ball is at the end of this month?”

“Yeah . . .”

“Well, I got asked,” she said with a small smile.

“Yay! By who? It can’t be Ron . . . otherwise you wouldn’t be able to stop smiling.” She wouldn’t answer.

“Hermione, I don’t care who it is. I want to know. I’m your friend. Tell me,” I said, poking at her.

“Promise you won’t tell?” I nodded.

“Viktor Krum,” she said bashfully.

My mind went blank. Did she really just say Viktor Krum? As in the Viktor Krum?! Whoa. I barely contained a squeal.

“Really?! Wow, Hermione. Then what are you so confused about?” I asked, concern showing on my face.

“I don’t know, Gin. I just don’t know. I mean he’s a great guy. Sweet. Quiet. Nice,” she sighed. “I just . . . he’s not . . .”

“Not Ron," I finished. She nodded slowly.

“Well, I’m just going to give you the same advice you gave me this summer,” I took a deep breath. “Be yourself, go out with other guys and enjoy your time with them, have fun, and he’ll come around,” I said holding her hand in mine and looking straight at her. She smiled—a real, genuine smile.

“Thanks, Gin. I needed that. I guess I needed permission to move on and wait it out.”

“Hey, that’s what I’m here for . . . to be your advisor. Just as you are to me.” I paused then gave her a hug.

“Let’s get out of here,” Hermione smiled as she picked up her book and slipped her arm in mine while we stood.

“Now . . . what are we going to do with your hair? And your makeup? What about the shoes? Oh, and let’s not forget your dress.”

Hello and welcome! You sure you just want to leave this at a one shot and not expand on the relationship between Ginny and Hermione!? It is an interesting perspective and I think it could be a lot of fun for you to write

OK, Rachel, this MUST expand to more chapters. It's brilliant! Your writing's really smooth and well-paced, and just fun to read I'd love to see more about Ginny and Hermione's friendship, since it's obvious in the books but not really explored. Pretty please?

To the both of you..... maybe.... doubt it but maybe. If so, it'll probly be a bunch of ficlets each with a different title ranging from the trio's 2nd year to whenever.... I just might do that. But idk. I still have to finish The Wedding. So maybe.
But thank you both
Lady Mouldywart-- thank you! That means a lot to have people say that
Harita-- thank you as well! Idk, maybe

Hey Rachel, way to go with a great little piece. I love it that there are friends like Hermione and Ginny. Friends that know each other so well that one knows when the other needs them without saying. The way technology is these days, it doesn't seem like friends chum around as much as they used to. They can do or say whatever they want and just talk or text on cell phones when they want to share something with a friend. At any rate, your one shot is very dear and sweet.

I think that it would be good to read more scenes between friends, and I can see it being great as ficlets like you mentioned. You have my vote for ficlets. Let us know what you decide.

I'll be defying gravity April 29th!!!

Hi y'all! I gave in and am making this a bunch of ficlets (hopefully). And I'm expanding to include relationships between a bunch of the characters.
This one takes place shortly after the battle in DH. Explores the friendship between Hermione and Ginny as well as between Harry and Ginny.
So here goes another one. (edited version is four posts down )

Broken Walls and Mending Hearts

I walked into my bedroom and slumped against my bed, drawing my knees up to my chest as I slid onto the floor. I had gone in there for a few minutes of solitude, still trapped in my nice but simple black dress and heels that were—unfortunately—still to be worn a few more times. As soon as I hit the ground, the tears started flowing while I slipped my heels off and tossed them towards my closet where they landed with a soft thump and I drew my knees up closer to my chin as I let out a strangled sob. What was I going to do without him? Someone knocked on my door.

“Come in,” I said shakily, quickly wiping my tears in case it was one of my brothers or Harry.

“Hey, Gin,” Hermione said softly, entering and closing the door behind her in her similar black dress and tearstained face. I turned towards my best friend and sister as she sat next to me and I gave a small, sad smile and a constricted “Hey yourself.” She quickly wrapped her arms around me and the waterworks began again—this time from the both of us.

“What am I going to do without him, ‘Mione?” I asked in between sobs a few minutes later. I felt her shrug in response.

“We’ll figure it out together,” she answered after the sobs died down, pulling away and facing me, grasping my hands, tears still streaming down her face. “I promise you that.” I nodded, knowing she was right but also knowing that it would take time.

We turned away from facing each other so we sat side-by-side, legs stretched out in front of us, our fingers still locked together. I laid my head on her shoulder as the tears flowed down both of our cheeks silently. We were each others’ comfort. I needed her just as much as she needed me, and we both knew that. The past days had been a blur but the coming weeks would be a challenge without my brother. We sat like that for close to ten minutes while the tears ran and slowly lessened to sniffles and then only a few tears here and there, never speaking.

A knock sounded on my door “Gin? Hermione? You both alright?” I heard my brother’s broken voice say. “Yeah, fine,” Hermione replied convincingly. There was no response except for footsteps going up the stairs.

“Go on. You should go up with him. I’m fine, Hermione. Really,” I said, squeezing her hand, though I didn’t want her to go.

“No, Gin. I need you right now more than I need Ron, and you need me more than he does.” I nodded in agreement. “Besides, he has Harry.”

I snorted softly. “Yeah, he has the company of the boy who doesn’t speak. Hermione, Harry’s barely spoken a word since . . . since . . .” I trailed off and sighed. “Hermione, I already lost Fred; I don’t want to lose Harry too, and I feel like I am,” I continued quietly, tears swelling in my eyes once more. “I miss him, Hermione.”

“I know, Gin; I miss him too. He’s my best friend,” she said, squeezing my hand.

“When will he come back to us?” I asked, my tears finally spilling over. Hermione reached her thumb up and wiped a tear away as we leaned our foreheads together.

“I don’t know, Gin. I don’t know,” she replied. We stayed like that for a few minutes. “I think I’ll go get some tea for the two of us. It’ll help,” she said, wiping a couple of more tears away on both of our faces. As she got up and moved towards my door, I told her I’d be down in another minute or so—I needed to get out of my room. She nodded and left, and I took a deep breath, shed a last tear, and followed her out a minute later. I walked down the stairs and caught a snippet of Hermione talking to someone and stopped to figure out whom.

“She’ll be alright; it’ll just take some time.” Hermione paused. “For all of us.” She paused again but the mystery person didn’t speak. “Can’t you tell that she needs you? That she needs you to come back to her—to us all?” She asked, exasperated. Another break—shorter this time.

“That’s just it, Hermione. I don’t know how,” the mystery person finally said quietly. It was Harry. Though I couldn’t see them, I could imagine Hermione giving him a small hug before her reply.

“Well, we’re all here for you. Though I think you know that. I’m making tea; Ginny should be down any minute. Come join me?” There was no response, but I heard two pairs of footsteps walk towards the kitchen. I gave it a few moments and then followed after them. I walked into the silent kitchen in the silent house as Hermione set the kettle of tea on the stove and Harry leaned up against the opposite counter. Harry kept his eyes on the ground, never making eye contact with me, and Hermione smiled slightly as she raised her eyebrows at me, silently asking if I was alright. I nodded because I knew I would be. The tea kettle whistled its familiar high-pitched tune as I grabbed each of our favorite mugs—Harry’s with a flying snitch, Hermione’s with a stack of books, and mine with a bouncing quaffle—from the cupboard.

We made our tea as we liked it and sat at one end of the long table, Hermione and Harry on one side and I on the other. We sat, sipping our hot tea in silence; it wasn’t uncomfortable, but our absent chatter was as obvious as a missing family member. We were aroused and startled from this quietness when the sound of an object hitting a door reverberated from the upper corners of the house. The three of us looked up simultaneously but I quickly averted my eyes and chose, instead, to look at Hermione. She had a concerned look on her face as she brought her eyes to mine while Harry continued staring at the ceiling. The concerned look stayed as she held my gaze and inclined her head slightly towards the staircase.

“Go on. He needs you more than I do,” I replied to her unasked question to go help Ron. She nodded, placed her hand on Harry’s shoulder, and left. The silence was reinstated, Harry’s eyes still staring at the ceiling while mine watched him.

“She can handle it you know. She’s got it covered.” To my dismay, all he did was nod. “Are you even going to talk to me, Harry?” No response. I huffed. “Your best friend just threw something at his door and you don’t even say a word?! Harry, what’s going on?” I asked aggravated—but not yet yelling. “Why won’t you talk? You’ve barely said a word for nearly a week,” I sighed. He shrugged. “Well if you won’t speak, at least look at me.”

It took a moment but he finally trained his eyes on a spot just above my right ear—I guess that would have to do for now. I raised my mug to my lips, taking a sip of the comforting tea, and brought it back down, keeping my hands wrapped protectively around my warm mug. I watched Harry and I could see his eyes trace my moves, even though he pretended not to.

“So what’s going on, Harry? Why aren’t you talking?” I asked after another minute of silence.

“I’m fine, Gin.” Harry said, diverting his eyes to his own mug as he took a sip.

“No you’re not, Harry! You’ve barely spoken a word in over a week and, to be honest, I’m sick of it!” I said, getting mad. “Talk, Harry. Talk to anyone. Talk to me!” I yelled. He still wouldn’t look at me and I took a deep, calming breath.

“I don’t get it, Harry. You haven’t been yourself since . . . since,” I paused, leaving the sentence hang, knowing he could fill in the blank. “It’s been nine days, Harry, and I all I ever hear out of you is a darn ‘thank you’ and that’s it,” I stated, my temper rising again. “You need to come back to us. I know you told Hermione that you didn’t know how,” he looked up briefly. “That’s alright. None of us know how to alone. So let. Me. Help you!” I said exasperated and infuriated with him.

“I’m fine, Gin. Just drop it,” He said quietly as he got up and started to walk over to the sink.

“No, Harry, you’re not! Quit denying it!” I yelled, quickly getting up out of my chair and grabbing Harry’s arm to turn him back towards me, but he still looked off just beyond me. “I know you’re not going to be your old self again. Heck, none of us will be. We lived through a war. Everything’s changed. But that doesn’t mean we can turn into recluses. We need to try to battle our own selves. You need to try,” I said fiercely.

“I know you, Harry. You’ll just continue retreating into yourself. I’ve watched you do it before . . . Am I wrong?” He didn’t affirm it, nor deny it. “Harry, we’re losing you. I’m losing you. And I can’t stand it!” My throat, unwillingly, began to close with that choking feeling that accompanies crying. “I’ve already lost people I love dearly,” my eyes began to fill with tears. “I buried my brother today, Harry! For goodness’ sake! I’ve lost people I love; I can’t—you hear me? Can’t!—lose you too!” I shouted.

I broke, finally allowing the tears to flow in front of him. He actually looked at me: looked me in the eyes, cared. That just made me break down more. He had looked me in the eyes only a couple of times in the last nine days and had held my gaze only once when we were in the Great Hall. Other than that, he had never continued to hold my gaze for more than a second or two.

My shoulders hunched as my tears ran faster; I didn’t even bother to wipe them away. Before I knew it, Harry had gathered me in his arms. Both of his arms were wrapped protectively around my waist and upper back, his right hand curling up and gripping my left shoulder. It was the first time he had even touched me since the battle. Instinctively, my arms wrapped around his waist as I buried my face in his shoulder and cried. I relaxed into him and we stayed molded together like that for a few minutes before I broke the silence.

“I need you, Harry. I need you to stay with me,” I cried.

He held me tighter and drew me closer. I felt tears along my neck as Harry himself cried into my shoulder and neck. A wall had been broken.

Hey Rachel, great story! I like how you gave the image of grief and what your characters were going through during this time frame. This sentence was exceptional giving point to this time frame without dwelling on details:
Quote:
I had gone in there for a few minutes of solitude, still trapped in my nice but simple black dress and heels that were—unfortunately—still to be worn a few more times.
This tiny line was really well thought out as well.
Quote:
I walked down the stairs and caught a snippet of Hermione talking to someone and stopped to figure out whom.
I could imagine her standing there not even breathing probably wondering right away if it could be Harry she was talking to. And then catching her breath even more when she heard Harry speak softly.
Your ending was sweet and a big relief that Harry finally did let the wall down.
Quote:
He held me tighter and drew me closer. I felt tears along my neck as Harry himself cried into my shoulder and neck. A wall had been broken.
Very nice Rachel, I'll be watching for your next one shot or short story.

Here's the edited version of Broken Walls and Mending Hearts. Enjoy! And please comment

Broken Walls and Mending Hearts

I walked into my bedroom and slumped against my bed, drawing my knees up to my chest as I slid onto the floor. I had come in here for a few minutes of solitude, still trapped in my nice but simple black dress and pumps that were still to be worn more times than I cared to count. As soon as I hit the ground the tears started flowing. I slipped my heels off and threw them at my closet where they landed with a soft thump, and I drew my knees up closer to my chin as I let out a strangled sob. What was I going to do without him? Someone knocked on my door.

“Come in,” I said shakily, quickly wiping my tears in case it was one of my brothers.

“Hey, Gin,” Hermione said softly, entering and closing the door behind her in her similar black dress and tearstained face. Even though we weren’t related, at the moment we could be twins with our puffy faces and red eyes. I turned towards my best friend and surrogate sister as she sat next to me and I gave a small, sad smile and a constricted “Hey yourself.” She quickly wrapped her arms around me and the waterworks began again. This time from the both of us.

“What am I going to do without him, ‘Mione?” I asked in between sobs a few minutes later. I felt her shrug in response.

“We’ll figure it out together. All of us,” she answered after the cries died down, pulling away and facing me, grasping my hands, tears still streaming down her face. “I promise you that.” I nodded, knowing she was right but also knowing that it would take time.

We turned away from facing each other so we sat side-by-side, legs stretched out in front of us, our hands still locked together. I laid my head on her shoulder as the tears flowed down both of our cheeks silently. We were each other’s comfort.

“Hermione, I already lost Fred; I don’t want to lose Harry too, and I feel like I am,” I continued quietly, tears welling in my eyes once more. “I miss him, Hermione.”

“I know, Gin; I miss him, too.

We stayed like that for a few seconds. “I think I’ll go get some tea for the two of us. It’ll help,” she said, wiping a couple of more tears away on both of our faces. As she got up and moved towards my door, I told her I’d be down in another minute or so. I desperately needed to get out of my room now that she was leaving.

That she needs you to come back to her — to us all?” She asked, exasperated. Another break, shorter this time.

“That’s just it, Hermione. I don’t know how,” the mystery person finally said quietly. It was Harry. That was the most words I’d heard him string together in over a week. Though I couldn’t see them, I could imagine Hermione giving him a small hug before her reply.

“Well, we’re all here for you. Though I think you know that. I’m making tea and Ginny should be down any minute. Eventually. The tea kettle whistled its familiar high-pitched tune as I grabbed each of our favorite mugs — Harry’s with a flying snitch, zooming around the cup; Hermione’s with a stationary stack of books, that said “I’m simply a book drunkard;” and mine with a bouncing quaffle, jumping along the base of the mug— from the cupboard.

We each made our tea as we liked it and sat at one end of the long table, Hermione and Harry on one side and me facing them. We sat, sipping our hot tea in silence; it wasn’t uncomfortable, but our absent chatter was as obvious as a missing family member. We were aroused and startled from this quietness when the sound of an object hitting a door reverberated from the upper corners of the house. The three of us looked up simultaneously, knowing where it came from, but I quickly averted my eyes and chose, instead, to look at Hermione. She had a concerned look on her face as she brought her eyes to mine while Harry continued staring at the ceiling. The worried look stayed as she held my gaze and inclined her head slightly towards the staircase.

“Go. He needs you more than I do,” I replied to her unasked question to go to Ron. She nodded, placed her hand on Harry’s shoulder, and left, leaving her cup half-finished on the table. The silence was reinstated, Harry’s eyes still staring at the ceiling while mine watched him.

“She can handle it you know. She’s got it covered.” To my dismay all he did was nod, his eyes now fixed on his tea. “Are you even going to talk to me, Harry?” I tried searching out his eyes, attempting to meet them now that they weren’t glued to Ron’s room floors above the kitchen.

No response.

I huffed. “Your best friend just pelted something at his door and you don’t even say a word? Harry, what’s going on?” I asked aggravated, but not yet yelling. “Why won’t you talk? You’ve barely said a word since everything happened,” I sighed. He shrugged. “Well if you won’t speak, at least look at me.”

It took a moment but he finally trained his eyes on a spot just above my right ear — I guess that would have to do for now. I raised my mug to my lips, taking a sip of the comforting tea, and brought it back down, keeping my hands wrapped protectively around my warm mug. I watched Harry and I could see his eyes trace my moves, even though he pretended not to. I felt a warmth spread across my face and a small smirk alighted on my lips as a butterfly twirled around my midsection. Though I didn’t want to admit it, it pleased me that he still watched me and how I moved like he did when we first got together. I had seen him do the same thing many times over the last week and a half.

Even if everything else had changed, at least that hadn’t.

“So what’s going on, Harry? Why aren’t you talking?” I asked after another minute of silence. I wanted to reach out and take his hand in my own. The physical reassurance that he was still there, alive, would be nice but I knew that if I did that he’d bolt, and I wouldn’t see him for another hour or more. Anytime we had made any sort of physical contact, purposefully or accidentally, since the day after the Battle resulted in him running away from me. I knew he was going through a lot – I could read that much in his face every time I saw him – but wasn’t I going through stuff, too? I needed my boyfriend, if that’s what he still wanted, but I didn’t know how to get him
back.

He didn’t need me to yell at him; he was doing that enough internally.

“I don’t get it, Harry. You haven’t been yourself since . . . since,” I paused, leaving the sentence hang, knowing he could fill in the blank. “It’s been nine days, Harry, and all I ever hear out of you is a darn ‘thank you’ and that’s it,” I stated, my temper rising again. “You need to come back to us. I know you told Hermione that you didn’t know how,” he looked up briefly. “That’s alright. None of us know how to alone. So let. Me. Help you!” I said exasperated and infuriated with him. I wanted him back. I needed him back. And, at the moment, all I could feel was him slipping further and further away.

He didn’t struggle out of my grasp though. “I know you’re not going to be your old self again. Heck, none of us will be. We lived through a war. Everything’s changed. But that doesn’t mean we can turn into recluses. We need to try to battle our own selves. You need to try,” I said fiercely. I lowered the hand that was attached to his arm and laced my fingers through his, feeling the familiar warmth flood through me and a jolt of electricity ran up my arm from not holding his hand in nearly a year. He didn’t pull away and, after a few seconds, curled his lax fingers up, returning the hold I had on him. It was a start.

“I know you, Harry. You’ll just continue retreating into yourself. I’ve watched you do it before . . . Am I wrong?” He didn’t affirm it, nor deny it. “Harry, we’re losing you. I’m losing you. And I can’t stand it!” My throat, most unwillingly, began to close with that choking feeling that accompanies crying. “I’ve already lost people I love dearly,” my eyes began to fill with tears. “I buried my brother today, Harry! For goodness’ sake! I’ve lost people I love and I can’t — you hear me? Can’t! — lose you too!” I shouted.

I broke, finally allowing the tears to flow in front of him. He actually looked at me then, looked me in the eyes. And cared. That just made me cry more, overwhelming relief adding to the pain and the stress. He had looked me in the eyes only a few times in the last nine days and had locked eyes with me only once when we were in the Great Hall. Other than that, he had not continued to hold my gaze for more than a second or two.

My shoulders hunched as my tears ran faster; I didn’t even bother to wipe them away. Before I knew it, Harry had gathered me in his arms. Both of his arms wrapped protectively around my waist and upper back, his right hand curling up and gripping my left shoulder, sending sparks cascading through me. It was the first time he had initiated any sort of touch since the Battle. Instinctively, my arms wrapped around his waist as I buried my face in his shoulder and cried. I relaxed into him and we stayed molded together like that for a few minutes before I broke the silence.

“I need you, Harry. I need you to stay with me.”

He held me tighter and drew me impossibly closer. Harry hunched over, his hot breath fanning the nape of my neck and, seconds later, I felt tears run along my neck and shoulder as Harry himself cried. A wall had been broken.

I'll be defying gravity April 29th!!!

Hey all! Here's another for the series. Also, just a warning, this is not entirely accurate time-wise according to when JK Rowling wrote the novels. It's as if they were young adults now in 2016 instead of the 1990's. Enjoy!

Interrupted Sleep

There was a ringing in her dream. She ignored it, and the ringing stopped. Then it started again. It was fine, it was a normal part of life; it made sense in her dream. And then her subconscious kicked in, realizing that the ringing was not coming from her dream, and slowly brought the young woman back into consciousness.

“Mmmmm,” she groaned, rolling over to blindly grope for the cell phone that was making the intolerable noise. The screen blinded her as she looked at the name of the caller. “What.” It wasn’t a question, it was a deadpanned statement. She had no love for the man calling her at the moment. Her boyfriend responded to her statement on the other end, not seeming to notice the annoyance in his girlfriend’s voice. As soon as his question finished, she hung up on him, not bothering to respond; groaned; and got up, literally rolling out of bed and onto the floor.

The redhead shuffled over to her dresser and grabbed the sweatshirt she had thrown off a few hours before. She hastily pulled it over her head and stuck her wand in her pocket before she walked out to her apartment’s living room, turning the lights on with a flick of her wand. She blinked rapidly as the lights flickered to life, clearing the sleep from her eyes. Her brain, though, was not thrilled to be awake. She unhooked the chain from the door and unlocked the deadbolt quickly and quietly since her roommate was still asleep in the second bedroom. She yanked the door open and came face to face with her boyfriend.

“Harry, it’s two in the morning. Why in Merlin’s name are you here? And with Ron, too?” She asked noticing her brother a few feet away, purple smudges on his forehead and arms. She was beyond unimpressed with their sheepish grins and bright, wide eyes and unslept-in pajamas. All Ginny wanted to do was go back to sleep but, if those purple marks were any indication, it was going to be a while before that happened.

“Could we stay here tonight?”

Ginny raised her eyebrows in surprise and glared at Harry suspiciously. “Harry James Potter you wake me up at this ungodly hour to ask if you can sleep on my couch when you have a home of your own.”

“Weeeeeelllll, that home currently smells really bad—”

“And is full of purple smoke,” Ron chimed in. So that’s where the smudges came from — it must be some new product of George’s. Ginny turned her glare on her brother before closing her eyes in exasperation.

“What’s going on?” A sleep-deprived Hermione asked from across the room.

Their conversation must have woken her. She walked across the living room, rubbing her eyes and tying her robe around her, as she realized who was at the door. “Ron? Harry?” They both semi-waved.

“Hi, Hermione.”

“Hey, babe.”

“Why are you here? And in the middle of the night?”

Ginny quickly explained what was going on before either man could say a word.

“Again?” Was Hermione’s only response. Both Harry and Ron smiled innocently. It wasn’t the first time something like this had happened and it certainly wasn’t going to be the last.

“So can we stay or not?” Harry asked hopefully.

Ginny sighed and looked over at Hermione who merely shrugged. Ginny opened the door further and extended her arm, welcoming them into the apartment. Harry stepped forward mumbling a ‘thank you’ as he placed a hand on Ginny’s waist and kissed her on the forehead. Ron squeezed in behind Harry, not caring to watch his best friend and sister, and headed straight toward Hermione, engulfing her in a hug which caused her to giggle despite her not-fully-awake state. Harry pulled Ginny inside and shut the door behind them while Ginny reached around his midsection, her hand braced against his back to keep her balance, and locked it once more.

“You’re lucky I love you,” Ginny said grudgingly to her boyfriend, “otherwise I’d be even more unhappy.” Harry laughed lightly before pulling Ginny into his arms and kissing her again on the forehead and then on the lips.

“I love you, too.”

Over the next fifteen minutes the four of them pulled out the couch bed for Harry to sleep on and moved the chairs to provide enough room for Ron to sleep on an air mattress on the floor. With a few swishes of their wands, Hermione and Ginny quickly blew up the air mattress they kept in their coat closet while Ron and Harry dug around Ginny’s closet for two sleeping bags. Finally, all was set up and the boys settled in for the night. They all passed around goodnights and the two couples exchanged kisses and “I love you’s” before Ginny and Hermione walked into their rooms and closed their doors behind them. Ginny stripped her sweatshirt off once more and walked over to her bed, eager to crawl back into it. Before she could, however, she thought of something and pulled her door open again, sticking her head out to speak to Ron and Harry.

“By the way, you two are making pancakes in the morning.”
