Hello and welcome to KasTan. I’m Maxie for those of you who don’t know me, the author of a previous one-shot on SS called Love Takes Two && another [finished] fic called Ecstasy: A Marauder Time Romance – Sa13+

For readers of my old fic, be warned. KasTan is an absolutely different FF from Ecstasy, based more on reality than on some romantic fairytale. It’s all about life’s rigour: Frustration, anger, hesitation . . . and heartbreak. In short, it will be way different from Ecstasy. I’ve always written very slow romance, but this might actually be just boring, boring, boring, one-sided romance.

The name of one of the main characters [Tanzeel] is actually based on a guy I know, but this story has nothing, I repeat nothing, to do with people form real life. And now, on to some boring but very necessary things:


Plot Summary:

Faztel Academy of Enchantments is a magical, day school located in the heart of an area inhabited almost entirely by muggles. Its aim is to give muggle-born wizards and witches who face trouble in attending magical schools like Hogwarts, a chance to receive magical education.

Main Character:

Kashan Aleen is the only child of two extremely conservative, superstitious and suspicious parents – The kind of parents who consider flirting a vice, and falling in love an even bigger one.

Having seen more than most, Kashan has not remained unaffected; what she has seen at home has made her violent (though only when it comes to loggerheads, and she doesn’t do that without a reason), confident and fearless. And yet she is also an absolute prankster and joker, always quick to laugh – someone with a smile that is always there at the right time.

One drawback one will find in Kashan, though, is actually caused by her extreme daring: She never turns down a challenge. When it comes to proving her fearlessness, Kashan Aleen is always and forever ready.


And, just in case any of you are wondering what the top banner says:

Banner # 1: How many tears have flown unknown, speaking of storms and distances when barren is land. We always have to do what we would rather not.



Having studied at Faztel for the past three years, with this as her fourth year, Kashan had grown more attached to Faztel than anyone knew.

The only thing that she did not like about it was the way their classes were arranged: Royal-Blue and Goldam had a different timetable, and Red-Den and Greensoph a different one. The four houses never did have classes together.

Kashan wasn’t exactly pleased about that.

And there was a very simple reason behind that, too – Her best friend was a Royal-Blue while Kashan was a Greensoph. Perhaps the only good thing in this whole affair was that Lily was a muggle, too: Unlike many others who had to skip lessons to meet, the two could to resort to telephone calls.


“Been a long, boring day, eh?” she said to Lily as she slung her deep, red and sable schoolbag over her shoulder and made her way out into the grounds too, once all the classes had emptied. The ponytail her super curly hair had been tied into was extremely loose by this time of the day; it always was.

Lily nodded; tall and extremely fair, she had few matches in beauty in their year. Kashan, though shorter by an inch or two, had a different sort of beauty; one that only trained eyes could see. She was fair, yes, but that was not all one could see in her. Her tied, brown hair fell across her shoulders with a natural elegance, the curliest in the whole school.

But it was her eyes and smile that held the real beauty: fathomless, brown eyes that seemed to have endless secrets stored in them; that expressed the pain she had suffered for so long – fights between her parents that she always became entangled in, constant bickering, a superstitious family - and a smile that, despite it all, was always full of humour and goodwill, flashed at every little joke and every little comment; a smile that was always quick and ready - A smile that pleased.

“Anything interesting happen today?” Kashan asked as they began to walk towards the school gate. Lily tutted in reply.

“Does anything ever happen in Royal-Gold that’s worth mentioning?” she asked, pretending to sigh as she glanced at the royal blue badge she wore.

“Well, seeing how you have the ten most studious students of our year in your class – I’d say no,” Kashan replied, laughing.

Lily laughed, too. “Well, our class isn’t that boring, you know,” she said, in a more serious voice. “We’ve got the biggest pranksters ever, too.”

Kashan nodded. “I’ve defo heard of your class’s reputation for trouble-making,” she replied thoughtfully. “But, personally, I really don’t know any of them that much.”

Lily’s face fell slightly at Kashan’s last statement. “You don’t want to know what they go around doing,” she said with a shake of her head. “They drive all the Professors crazy.” Shrugging, she popped an Oreo she had just unwrapped from a bag of biscuits in her mouth.

“And d’ya know Tanzeel? That guy's too full of himself for his own good. According to him, no one, no one at all, can make him mad. Ever.” She winked at her best friend, emphasizing as much as possible on the phrase “no one at all.”

Kashan arched an eyebrow upwards. “He’s mental,” she said dispassionately. “I bet I could drive him up the wall in hours.”

Lily hid back a smile. “I bet you can’t, Kash,” she said in a mock disbelieving tone. Kashan flared up at once. “Could too,” she insisted, arms folded.

Lily had been waiting for this moment. “Prove it,” she said at once. For a single millisecond, Kashan looked taken aback. Then a look of supreme unconcern passed over her face.

“Lily Asaif, you’re an idiot,” she said coolly. “I’ve already proved I can do just about anything a million times before. Besides, this Tanzeel guy? I don’t even know him properly, for heaven’s sake.”

Lily snorted. “Are you telling me you’re too scared to go up and talk to a guy?” she asked evenly.

No, Kashan thought to herself. Only, my mother would kill me if she knew I was talking to a boy I don’t even know anything about. When she made no audible response, Lily raised an eyebrow.

“Well, here’s your newest challenge then, Miss Aleen,” she said cheekily. “Prove Tanzeel wrong – if you have the guts, that is.”

For a moment, Kashan was dumfounded. She knew she loved to let big-headed people know that they were too full of themselves. But Tanzeel? – she didn’t even know him. Then again, this was a challenge, and challenges weren’t there to be turned down.

“Deal,” she said firmly, turning around to face Lily.

Tanzeel, she thought to herself as she climbed into the bus that would take her home. Now, what have I heard about him? He was Prefect, and he was a Goldam. That was all she really knew about him.

Ooooooo I love it!
It starts very strongly, the characters personalities are just like you described them above, and I honestly can't see what you're going to do with these characters Maxie!

It is very different from ''Ecstacy'' but that's a good thing because it proves that you're a diverse writter, you can write other stuff besides romance, which is brilliant! And you've been able to come up with you're own characters, plot, setting,... just about EVERYTHING! Love your creativity! <3

You know, what I love the most about your writting style besides it being completly brilliant, is that you're very descriptive, so anyone who reads your stories can imagine everyting perfectly!

I really did like it, and I hope you get loads of readers because you really are an amzing writter!

oooh i love it, it is sooooooooooooooooooo well written. you should be an author if you're not already. i don't know how you can think that this story is going to be boring. it seems interesting to me. PAMS!!!

I just returned from a school trip, so I'm dead tired. I'm not sure if I plan to update right now.

“Mom, dad, please,” Kashan cried. “Get a grip.”

Throwing her schoolbag on her bed, she stormed out of the room, leaving her parents alone to bicker over why the storeroom ceiling was leaking. She took a deep breath to calm herself down as the wintry breeze in the balcony hit her face. Telephone cradle in hand, she punched in Lily’s telephone number.

Somehow, talking to Lily always made her feel better, despite the fact that Lily only knew the vague outlines of what her life at home was like. Behind her, Kashan could still hear Mr. and Mrs. Aleen fighting.

“You’re the failure here, Emma,” Simon Aleen shouted at his wife.

“And what do you think you are?” Mrs. Aleen shouted back. “Any better than –”

Then the line was connected and Lily was on the other end, saying a bright hi. Leaning forward, Kashan slammed the glass door of the windy balcony shut and greeted her best friend.

The voices of her parents seemed to disappear forever, and the chilly wind whistling outside was the only noisy element in her surroundings.

– And that pretty smile was back in place again.

Perhaps what really made it pretty, after all: That smile never left her – at least, it had never left her, inwardly; she had never really cried about anything – It took a lot to make Kashan cry.

It was going to be a titan’s task for anyone to wipe that smile off her face.

LOL this is something you'd never hear in the typical HP Fanfic

Yes, I found it. Well actually I just followed the link you posted at Ecstasy, but still.

I love this story as much as I love Ecstasy, believe me. It's a beautiful piece of work and it shows that you can write a lot more than just mind-blowing romance. Each and every bit is delicious to read, and I'm hooked. The characters too, are really strong ones and they leave their mark on one's mind. Though WAY different from Ecstasy, this FF is still amazing to say the least.

Exactly - This isn't the typical HP FF. I've tried to write down something that is absolutely, absolutely, absolutely different from the usual romance FF's on SS.

I have a bit of re-writing to do, and then I'll update.

Maybe today, or maybe tomorrow.

“Lil,” Kashan said quietly, sneaking up behind her best friend during Lunch. “I’ve seen Tanzeel before, I think. But, still - Who exactly is he?”

Lily snorted in response. "That one in the distance,” she replied with a shrug. ashan turned around at the speed of light, but the boy Lily had been pointing to had already passed out of sight.

“Well, I’m going to do some shadowing, I think,” she told Lily cheekily. Without waiting for a response, she quickly but quietly made her way out of the hall. Reachinge part of the building that encompassed all the fourth year classes, Kashan paused.

She could see a boy in the class opposite, trying to transfigure a wooden box with ancient carvings, very much like the ones all the fourth year classes had been handed yesterday to transfigure (hey, wasn’t that supposed to be yesterday’s class work?) and then turned her attention back to where the Royal-Gold class was.

Excellent.

She knew Tanzeel well enough to tell that he was the boy who had just entered the classroom. He was bent over his chair, rummaging in his bag. Kashan never did get a good look at him; he was tall, really tall – That was all she could see. A lot taller than her, anyway. Next second, she had stridden into the classroom.

“Excuse me,” she asked in an extremely polite voice. The boy turned around; Kashan did not even try to get a good look at his face, giving off the false impression that she was too reserved and too courteous.

“Yeah?” the boy asked politely.

“Can you please tell me your name?” she asked, clasping her hands and looking up at him through brown eyes widened on purpose, in an extremely endearing manner.

The boy raised an eyebrow. “Tanzeel,” he said shortly, closing his bag shut. And I thought I was a big hit around this place, Kashan thought to herself. For Heaven's sake, he didn’t even pay me any attention!

Well, she was determined to get it now, more than ever before. As Tanzeel began to stride out of the classroom, he suddenly tripped over something invisible and sprawled, headfirst, on to the ground in front of him.

Quietly pocketing her wand, Kashan disappeared from the classroom, leaving an already annoyed Tanzeel behind of her. For some reason, she just had to smile slightly.

It was a good thing Lily Asaif didn't notice that smile; a really, really good thing.

[edit] my "frens" are reallly starting to bug me.. i was reading your post half way, and she invites me on msn and says all kinds of singlish(it has no meaning, it's just that they REALLY like to use them, and i SERIOUSLY hate singapore!) and now, my blood is boiling, and i guess that if she calls me, im really going to scream some really really mean thigns to her and in school, i have to face her again cae she's my partner, and she doesnt realize she herself is patheic and she calls me patheic.. i mean, only i can call me patheic!... anyway, lets get back tohere... maxie maxie u always cease to amaze me this story is REALLY great! ilovveit~

Whoa, it sure is a long, long time since I last updated. If truth be told, I had the whole story written, but my computer deleted it. All of it. I don't even have one, teensy weensy post left now. =( Gaaaaah.

I have to write it all over again, now. Oh well, I guess I will. 'Cause I'm not going to let this get deleted; no way.

As the bell for the last period rang, an immediate upsurge of noise in the corridor was but natural. Lily Asaif scanned the grounds for her best friend, but was surprised to see that, for the first time since they had become best friends, Kashan was not there. This, little piece of information did not fail to stun her for a moment; then she shrugged.

Where the heck is that girl? She thought quietly to herself. An eyebrow raised, she let the crowd of students push her along, her eyes never resting for a moment.

Lily Asaif had a very, very bad felling about this, indeed.

Kashan was not being overly dramatic; really. She was just looking for a bit of fun. Leaning against the wall which not many students passed by at this time of the day – right after school ended – she crossed her arms against her chest. Rahwer, that hot Indian guy from fifth year, walked past. And then . . .

Kashan stood up straighter. Tanzeel. For the first time, she was at her leisure to inspect what he really looked like. His shock of deep, black hair fell into two, fathomless, brown eyes that, at that very moment, did not look too pleased at the prospect of walking home in the sweltering weather. In fact, he was scowling. She could tell that David, his best friend, was bravely trying to divert his attention to something brighter, but the guy did not look too interested.

It surprised her how much handsomer her looked than when she had first seen him. Or, wait, was it just her? The thought crossed her mind for the first time, but she immediately pushed it to the back of her mind. No way, she told herself. I can’t be falling for that big-headed git.

Brats could be handsome, right?

And she was not. She was sure of it. But, it was only after she had watched his figure disappear in the distance that Kashan suddenly realized that she had not carried out what she had been standing here for the past quarter of an hour for – She had planned to trip him, and then rush up to ask him if he had hurt himself. She had been planning to annoy him.

And seeing him had driven that clean out of her mind.
