Hello to the new readers!! Thanks for posting! New chapter...enjoy!!!

-------------------------------------------------
Chapter 14

The school year ended and soon Raven was on her way home to her uncle's house for the summer holiday. The train ride home was fun and also a little sad. She sat in a compartment with George, Fred and Lee Jordan wishing that her first year at Hogwarts didn't end. The whole year seemed to go by so quickly. Raven came into her first year skeptical and lonely, and left full of enthusiasm and with new friends.

The boys were discussing ideas for their joke shop and Raven was chiming in and out with and idea or two, but she mainly kept to herself. She couldn't stop thinking about how long and boring her summer was going to be with her uncle.

"Father thinks he has tickets to the Quidditch World Cup at the end of the summer," said George. "Think Snape will let you go?"

"Possibly," she said shrugging. "I'll have to be nice. It's going to be hard."

"Try real hard," he said smiling. "I'll see if he can get an extra ticket."

"Okay," she said smiling back. "Tell him I'll go ahead and pay for mine. I know at some point the tickets will be hard to come by. They'll get more expensive as time goes by."

"Don't worry about it," he said grabbing her hand. "My dad will get it. He works at the Ministry; it will be no problem for him."

Raven gave George a faint smile and turned away to look out the window. She wasn't in her typical mood. She also knew that everyone around her sensed it.

"What's wrong, Rave?" George asked in a small whisper.

"Oh, nothing," she said with a heavy sigh. "I just had so much fun this year; I don't want it to end. Having to spend the summer with my uncle; not exactly the end I was going for."

"You know you can come to the Burrow anytime," he said. "It's not much but we can find something to do."

Raven smiled and put her head on George's shoulder. George kissed the top of her head and then she closed her eyes and decided to take a nap.

It seemed like she barely closed her eyes when all of a sudden she was running through what appeared to be a maze. At the same time, she noticed she was barely running at all. Her steps were painful and she struggled with every step she took. As she got farther through the maze, she heard a voice shouting at her. The words were muffled and she couldn’t understand what they were saying, but the voice was frightening. Every time she heard that voice, a pain shot from her hand to every part in her body. She looked down but only saw a blur where her hand would be. Raven was getting weaker to the point she couldn't stand, she started to stagger, hanging on to the sides of the maze to try to stay standing. Soon she rounded a corner, when she saw a bright light. Filling with a little energy, she ran towards it as fast as she could. There were two figures with their hands outstretched about to touch whatever it was that was causing the light.

"NO!" she screamed.

"Raven!" said George shaking her. "Rave! Wake up!"

"Huh?" she said still half asleep.

"Wake up! We're here."

"Oh...right. Okay," she said getting up like nothing happened.

"Are you okay? It looked like you were having a nightmare.

"I'm fine," she said grabbing her bag. "I just had one of those odd dreams, I can't explain."

"It sounded pretty intense," he said as they both walked out of the compartment.

"Wouldn't you think it was weird if you saw unicorns on a beach sipping rum while pixies fanned them with leaves?" she asked smiling. Unable to explain the real dream she had, she decided to come up with something different, as to not worry George.

"Yeah, I guess that would be...weird," he said giving her a look that made her feel like she was crazy, which made them both laugh.

The two spotted their trunks after getting off the train and began loading a cart to carry their things along more smoothly. The hustle and bustle of the train station made it hard for George to find his mother. Raven on the other hand, was just following along not in a hurry to get anywhere.

"GEORGE! FRED!" shouted a voice from across the platform.

The twins walked in fast steps to their mother, while Raven took normal strides behind them. She wanted to meet Mrs. Weasley, but felt it a little awkward to meet her boyfriend's mother.

As she walked up to them, Mrs. Weasley was hugging and kissing on her boys as if she thought she was never going to see them again.

"You must be the girl George mentioned in his letters. Aren't you a pretty young lady," she said wrapping her arms around Raven as if she were her own. "Now, don't let that uncle of yours keep you hostage over the holidays. I insist that you spend a few days with us. Understand?"

"Okay," she said with an embarrassing smile, starting to feel a little suffocated by George's mothers hug. "Thanks you, Mrs. Weasley."

"No, thank you, dear," said Mrs. Weasley. "You have made my boy very happy."

"Mum, please," said George pulling at his mother to let Raven go. "She's not a stuffed doll. Raven needs to breathe."

"Is your uncle meeting you here, dear?" Mrs. Weasley asked finally letting Raven go.

"Not for a couple of days, ma'am," Raven said. "He has to wrap things up at school and he's meeting me at the Leaky Cauldron when he's done."

"We are going to be heading off to Diagon Alley to take the Floo Network home. So you can go with us. Will you be okay at the Leaky Cauldron by yourself?" George asked.

"I'll be fine," she said still embarrassed. Raven was wondering if her mother would have been anything like Mrs. Weasley. She thought George's mother was everything she pictured a mother to be.

"Arthur! Arthur!" Mrs. Weasley shouted. A tall, older man walked over with Ginny. Raven assumed that he had to be George's father, with his signature red hair. "Arthur, this is the young lady that George mentioned in his letters, Raven Snape. Raven, dear, this is Arthur Weasley, George's father," she said as she kindly shoved Raven into Mr. Weasley.

"Nice to finally meet you," he said. "What’s a pretty young thing like you doing with a rascal of a son like mine?"

His comment made both of them laugh while Mrs. Weasley, overhearing his comment, backhanded her husband on his upper arm.

"Alright, dears. Are we ready to head off?" asked Mrs. Weasley. Everyone nodded. "Okay grab your trunks, and let's go."

Everyone except for Harry, who met up with his aunt and uncle, and Hermione, who met up with her parents, left for Diagon Alley. When they got to Diagon Alley, Raven dropped her stuff off at the Leaky Cauldron and followed the Weasley's to the fireplace that would take them home.

All of the other Weasley's left, except for George who seemed still a little apprehensive about leaving Raven by herself for a couple of days.

"I'll be fine George, how much trouble can I get into by myself?" she asked with her usual confident smile. "My uncle will be along as soon as his business at Hogwarts is over. He may be back sooner."

"If you're sure then," he said stepping up to the fireplace. As he approached the fireplace, though, he stopped and turned back towards Raven. He stepped towards her and took one of his fingers a caressed her cheek. "I love you, Rave."

"I love you, too," she said taking hold of his hand. After a moment of staring deep into each other's eyes, they shared a small, yet loving kiss. Both knew it would be some time before they would see each other, much less have a moment like this for a while. To savor this moment is more than they could ever ask.

"Bye, Rave," George said, his face beaming.

"Bye, cutie," she said.

George stepped into the fireplace, grabbed a handful of Floo powder. "The Burrow," he said. A beautiful green fire consumed him and like that...he was gone. Raven stared at the fireplace hoping for a moment he would come back and make her go with him. But he didn't and she was alone. Now she needed to find something to do to occupy her time.

Raven went back to the Leaky Cauldron where she got some money together to do a little shopping before she was to be stuck for the next two months stranded with her uncle. After walking around Diagon Alley, she decided to stock up on some quills, ink and parchment so she could write to George and her friends over the summer.

The next day, she found herself bored and about to lose her mind. She changed some of her money over to muggle money and decided to do some shopping in muggle London. One thing she took pride in was the fact that she never dressed like a normal witch. To keep up with that, she needed to update her wardrobe. She even took the time to change out some of the colors in her hair. Her long black hair now had streaks of hot pink and purple.

After several hours of shopping, she decided to head back to the Leaky Cauldron to get something to eat. When she got there, Tom, the barkeep, handed her a letter that arrived shortly before she got back. The letter was from her uncle. His business didn't take as long as he thought it would and he wanted her to be there and ready the moment he arrived.

"Hey, Tom," Raven shouted from across the pub. The place was deserted so she wasn't bothering anyone. "What does a young witch like me do around here for fun?"

"Been to the Alley?" he asked.

"Yeah, it was boring," she said slouching back in her chair.

"You could help me close up for the night," he said jokingly.

"Why not? I've got nothing else to do," she said getting up and heading toward the bar. Tom was clearly not expecting her to help, but before he could say anything, Raven had an apron on and a towel in her hand, and started wiping down tables and stacking up chairs.

When they finished, Tom thanked her and went off to bed. Raven pulled down one of the chairs and started a fire. Then she began reading the book that she bought the day before. She was extremely relaxed and comfortable when the door of the Leaky Cauldron opened.

"Tom says we're closed. Come back tomorrow," she said. Her back was turned to the door so she didn't see who opened it. When she heard the door shut, but heard footsteps, she became alert. Raven sensed a cold, dark person walking towards her. "Did you not hear me? We're...," she stopped and turned to see who it was.

"I have not come to this establishment to buy a drink. I have come to settle some unfinished business with a guest," it was Lucius Malfoy, Draco's father. He looked as evil as she remembered. His long blond hair and his cold grey eyes gave the room a malevolent feeling. It gave Raven chills but also filled her with anger.

"There is no one here interested in your business, Lucius, now leave," she said furiously. Raven got up to head for the stairs, but Lucius blocked her path with his cane.

“My dear, is that any way to greet me, after all these years?” he said getting real close to Raven, making her back off quite a bit.

“I nearly killed your son, not once, but twice…and you people still won’t leave me alone,” she said throwing down her book on the steps. “Are you that stupid? When will you understand that I am not going to fulfill my end of the contract?”

"Why, my dear, are you denying your destiny?" he asked as if sounding concerned.

"I’m not the one doing the denying. You and your pathetic excuse for a son are denying me by forcing me to do something that I want no part of," she said now prepared for a fight. “It’s disgusting and beyond wrong.”

"Now why the nasty words?" he asked relaxing his cane from Raven's path. "We are practically family. Shouldn't we try to get along?"

"Technically, yes, we are family which is the reason this whole thing is enough to make me vomit," she said stepping up on a couple of the steps to be eye level with him. “And no, Lucius, we are not going to try to get along. I can’t like you,“ she said turning around. “Now get out!"

Lucius followed her up a few steps and grabbed her arm. Raven wondered to herself if her arm has "grab me" written on it somewhere, because people do that a lot these days. She turned to see Lucius, who looked as though he was going to break her arm in half. Not only did she see anger in his eyes, but she also saw how much he wanted to kill her right now. Flashbacks of her first encounter with Draco, at Hogwarts, popped into her mind.

“You know,” she said lightening her tone, “the last person who grabbed my arm like this nearly died. Three guesses who.”

"Yes, well, tonight there isn't a Weasley here to stop you, is there?" he said getting extremely close to her face.

"No, but Snape is," she said looking over Lucius' shoulder.

Snape was standing at the doorway of the Leaky Cauldron, outstretching his wand towards Lucius. Malfoy all of a sudden looked frightened.

"I would suggest you remove your hand off of her and back away, NOW!" Snape shouted.

"Why, Severus," Lucius said nervously, "it's been a while, old friend. I was just catching up on old times with your niece."

"I know what you are doing," Snape said walking toward Lucius, his wand never lowering an inch. "Now once again, remove your hand and back away!"

"You know, Severus, that fighting me on this won‘t work," Lucius said smugly, removing his hand from Raven's arm. "As a matter of fact, you both have just sealed the agreement with your very poor attitude."

"I do not believe our attitude was part of the agreement," Snape said putting his wand up to Malfoy's neck. "The way I see it, our attitude is perfectly acceptable, under the circumstances and present company."

Lucius took a moment to glare at Raven and Snape then swung around and left the bar.

There was an awkward silence between Raven and Snape. Snape walked over to the nearest chair and slumped into it. Raven picked up her book and walked over to her chair. Raven decided that to say anything, at this point, would not be beneficial and thought it would be best to go upstairs to get her stuff. Halfway up the stairs she turned around and looked at her uncle who was still angry with his hands over his eyes.

“By the way…what on earth did you do to your hair?” Snape grumbled.

“I did it just for you. I knew you would like it,” she said smiling.

“Sure…” he said shaking his head. “Now hurry up, I want to leave.”

And with that, Raven made it up to her room where she threw her trunk together and got ready to leave. She finally made it downstairs and Snape was already at the door ready to go. There wasn’t much said on the way home. When they arrived, they both went their separate ways. When Raven got to her room, she began to unpack but suddenly realized how tired she was. Before long she was in her pajamas and getting ready for bed. It was going to be a long summer. As she lay in bed, she smelled something funny. It was a dirty, musky smell. She knew the first thing she was going to do was make her room livable by cleaning it, maybe getting some fresh flowers to make it smell better. Hopefully, she could convince Snape to let her clean the rest of the house.

Whatever she did over the holiday was going to be boring, but interesting. She was so shocked that Snape stood up for her tonight. Maybe over the summer, one thing that she could fix, or somehow mend, was her relationship with Snape. Her thoughts were stopped by a knock at her door.

“Come in,” she said.

“Are you comfortable? Do you need anything?” Snape asked through the partially opened door.

“Um…no thanks. I’m fine.”

“Good night, then.”

“Night.”

Snape shut the door and before long, the hall light was out and she heard the shut of another door. The beginning of her summer began. It didn’t begin when she left Hogwarts. It didn’t begin when she got off the train. It didn’t even begin when she settled in at the Leaky Cauldron. It began the moment she walked into Snape’s house. Her new house. Now her relationship will be tested with Snape, George, and her friends. Raven would be tested, as well. Before long her eyes were getting heavier, and heavier. Soon she couldn’t keep them open. She was forced to end this day, and rest for the new one.

Sarah - she just changed out some of the colors in her hair. She decided to go with some hot pink and purple highlights in her hair.

Chapter 15

The long and dreary summer couldn’t be over quick enough. Raven Snape had spent most of the summer cleaning her uncle Severus’ house and it still smelled like mold and damp books. She couldn’t understand how there could be so much dust in one household. Spiders were everywhere and she was always taking down an old web or stomping around trying to rid the house of pests.

“I don’t understand how you can possibly live this way,” she said to her uncle who was seated comfortably in his chair reading a book.

“I don’t understand why you can’t try,” he said, never taking his eyes off his book.

“Because, dear uncle of mine, if I am going to live here, I am not going to wonder what is going to crawl on me next,” she said, beating another spider with her broom. “A person could get diseases from the smells that are in this house.”

Snape just rolled his eyes and Raven continued to work. She wanted so desperately to use magic, but it was forbidden to use it outside of school. That was another thing. She wondered why there couldn’t be some kind of summer school. She would much rather go to school all year than clean all summer.

“So are you making dinner or are you going to bestow that honor upon me? I know that leaving your chair has been so difficult for you today. I want to ask before I go to bed hungry,” she said wiping her forehead and then drinking a glass of water.

“I will,” he said still never taking his eyes off the book.

“Well don’t hurt yourself,” she said getting more sarcastic as the conversation went on. “I don’t want you to hurt your page-turning finger in a cooking accident.”

“I’m up!” he said slamming his book closed and stomping toward the kitchen.

She felt good about herself. This was the first day in a couple of weeks she showed attitude towards him. She was hesitant though because he hasn’t given her an answer to the question of whether or not she could go to the Quidditch World Cup with George and his family. She had received many owls from George and each response has been the same: “He hasn’t said yes…yet.”

“I’m sorry for interrupting your reading,” she said sitting down at the kitchen table.

“You’re forgiven,” he said quietly looking at her out of the corner of his eye.

“Have you thought anymore about the Quidditch Cup in a couple of weeks?” she asked hoping he would have an answer.

“Yes, I have thought about it,” he said plopping down a plate of something in front of her. “I wish to speak to Molly Weasley first. Only then will I make a decision.”

Raven let out a bit of a scream and jumped up from the table. “I am going to write George right away!”

“SIT!” he said annoyed. Raven quickly turned around and looked almost shocked. “I’m sure Mr. Weasley’s owl can wait until after you eat.”

Raven quickly sat down and stared at her food for a moment. It looked like oatmeal with corn in it. She picked up her spoon and thought for a moment that what she was about to eat was a practical joke.

“Uncle, may I ask what this is?” she said worried about his answer.

“It’s all I could find that was quick and easy,” he said, eating as though his concoction was not very tasty.

“What did you do? Grab two things blindly and dump them in a pot? There is plenty in there, I just stocked up the other day,” she said. It suddenly hit her that she had been doing all of the cooking over the summer. Could it be that her uncle did not know how to cook? A bit of frustration overwhelmed her. She got up and grabbed her plate, then proceeded to grab her uncle’s plate and dump them both in the sink.

“Go! I will make dinner,” she said pulling Snape up and pushing him into the sitting area. “I’ll call you when I’m done.”

She slaved over dinner and when it was all done she called her uncle into the kitchen. She had prepared roasted chicken with a side of potatoes and beans. She was going to prepare a dessert but didn’t feel like it. Snape seemed relieved at the sight of his plate.

After dinner, Snape suggested that he would clean the kitchen for Raven. He then thanked her for the good meal in his usual tone that made Raven wonder how hard it must be for him to say a nice thing. She then proceeded to tell her uncle good night and ran upstairs to write George a letter.

Dear George,
Good news! My uncle wants to meet with your mother about the Quidditch
World Cup. I know it’s kind of weird, but I’m sure this is just one step away from
saying yes. Write back as soon as you can to let me know when they can meet.
in the meantime, I’ll be thinking of you and hoping he’ll say yes. I have to
run. I love you.
Raven

She folded the letter and used her uncle’s owl to send it. She laid in her bed thinking about the meeting with Snape and Mrs. Weasley. She wondered what he would say. Is it going to be somewhat friendly or is Snape’s typical attitude going to emerge? She missed George, but Ron and Ginny, and of course Fred. To have some kind of contact with the outside world without the use of letters seemed nice.

The next morning she woke up to her uncle knocking on her door. She thought it was kind of odd considering he never woke her up in the mornings but always let her sleep. She put on her robe and opened the door.

“This had better be important,” she said rubbing her eyes.

“I received an owl from Mrs. Weasley this morning,” he said. “We will be going there for lunch.”

“Today?” she said, shocked and still half-asleep.

“Yes. Get ready. We need to be there in an hour,” he said walking away.

“An hour? Thanks for the warning!” she said slamming her door.

She finished her bath and got her clothes together, when she noticed Pig, the Weasley’s owl, at her window. She ran over, grabbed the letter and gave Pig a snack. The owl flew away and left Raven alone to read her letter.

Dear Rave
Mom is very excited about meeting with Snape for some reason,
and went ahead and sent him an owl inviting you both to lunch. I
hope her owl doesn’t beat Pig. Usually hers is slow, so maybe there is a
chance. Anyway, can’t wait to see you. Ask if you can stay for dinner.
Love you
George

Raven laughed at the fact that his mother’s owl was quicker than Pig. But there was no time to laugh too hard because she had to finish getting ready. She had to think quickly about what to wear. It had been a while since she went anywhere and wanted to look her best. So she picked out a black shirt with the logo of the muggle band The Grateful Dead, which she thought was pretty funny considering no wizard or witch knew who they were. She then picked out some khaki cargo pants and her black boots. Raven put her hair up into a ponytail which highlighted the red hair that she now had underneath her jet black hair and really brought out the deep blue of her eyes. As she looked at herself in the mirror she thought she looked quite nice. She thought that her selection of clothes was possibly going to raise questions, but didn’t care so much. She was different and was proud to be so.

She walked down the stairs and saw her uncle who was waiting to go. She was hoping they were not going by Floo Network. It would be dirty and it would get dust all over the nearly clean house and herself.

“How are we going?” she asked hesitantly.

We are apparating," he said.

“Yeah? And how do you suppose I apparate with you? I don't have my license. But you know that already."

"Are you ready? And what are you wearing?” he asked. “What is Grateful Dead?”

“It’s a muggle band,” she said with a grin.

“Why do you do that? Why do you wear muggle things? Why do you insist on looking like a…freak?” he asked.

“Have you looked at what people in the wizarding world wear?” she asked a little annoyed. “If you think muggles dress like freaks, you should hear what they say about wizards when they walk down the street. I’d rather look like a muggle than look like us.”

“Unbelievable,” he said walking into an open field a block away from his house.

“Besides, I am following the family tradition and keeping with black. Its not like I am wearing pink,” she said sarcastically. “So I’m wearing a muggle shirt, muggle-born witches and wizards wear muggle clothes all the time.”

"Fine, are you ready?" he asked. "If so, take my arm."

Raven’s stomach did a flip. After weeks and weeks of just writing George she will now be able to see him.

Raven grabbed her uncle’s arm and took a deep breath as he counted to three. It was a quick count because soon she felt as though her body was being squeezed through a tiny hole. Apparation was the worst feeling she had ever had and hoped that she would never have to do that for a while. Once she saw daylight again, she turned around and saw what she thought was the cutest house she had ever seen. It was the Burrow. George’s descriptions of his home were nothing compared to what it actually was.

When she came to, she noticed that Snape was already heading toward the house, walking very fast. She tried to keep up but realized that maybe the boots that she picked out were not the best, because she didn‘t realize she was going to have to do that much walking.

As they approached the door, Mrs. Weasley opened it and thanked Snape and Raven for coming on such short notice. Snape didn’t say a word, but walked right in and stood there, hoping to be in and out quickly.

“Hi Mrs. Weasley,” Raven said. “Thanks for inviting us.”

“Thank you for coming, dear,” Mrs. Weasley said looking at Raven’s clothes. “Don’t you look lovely! I had a muggle friend who was my neighbor growing up. Her parents listened to the Grateful Dead. She did as well. I didn’t quite understand the music myself, but she seemed to love it.”

“I’m glad someone has at least heard of them,” Raven said, shooting a look to her uncle, who rolled his eyes.

“Severus would you like a cup of tea?” she asked the clearly uncomfortable house guest.

“Thank you, Molly,” he said as she handed him the cup. Raven was glad that he was actually trying to be civilized.

Soon there was a rush down the steps. It was all the Weasley children: first Ron, then Ginny, then Fred. George calmly walked down the steps almost trying to keep his cool with the exception of the smile on his face at the sight of Raven. Snape, at the sight of all of them, gulped down all of his tea. He had to have felt extremely awkward being in his students’ house about to have lunch with them and their mother.

“Arthur could not join us today. He is busy with Ministry business,” Mrs. Weasley said, pouring Snape another cup of tea.

Soon Mrs. Weasley and Snape were in full discussion mode about ministry business. While they were talking, Mrs. Weasley was setting the table for lunch and all of the Weasley children and Raven were sitting at the table just staring at each other.

For Snape, lunch could not be ready quick enough. He was not a man of many words today; which was odd for him, but understandable. Raven on the other hand was ready for the purpose of this visit to be fulfilled.

“I would like to talk to you about the Quidditch World Cup,” he said out of the blue.

“Yes I was hoping to talk to you about that,” Mrs. Weasley said. “You have nothing to worry about. We will take good care of your niece.”

“I understand that, but she will not be going with you,” he said. Everyone at the table stopped eating and Raven dropped her fork on her plate, which made a loud clank noise. “I mean, I have already made arrangements for her to go and meet you all there.”

“What?” a confused Raven asked.

“After you asked me about the Quidditch finals, I asked around and was able to get you a ticket in the minister’s box, where the Weasley’s would be sitting. I then made tent and port key arrangements. So everything is settled and you will be able to go. However, Molly, I need your strict promise that she will be safe in the hands of your husband and yourself.”

“Of course, Severus, you have nothing to worry about,” she said.

“That being said, I do have one more concern,” he said. This had to be the part that Raven had to be dreading the most. “Although, I have full faith in you, Molly, I have to say that I am uneasy sending her off with your son.”

“Excuse me?” said Mrs. Weasley having to catch her breath so not to choke on her food.

“Sorry,” he said, knowing that what he just said had to spark some kind of curiosity among the people at the table. “It is an overnight trip, and I just don’t want…”

“Severus, I understand your concerns,” said Molly, attempting to get over her pre-emptive shock. “You have absolutely nothing to worry about. Arthur will check on the children periodically to make sure they are in bed or where they need to be. Nothing will happen to Raven while she is in our care.”

Snape’s nerves seemed to be settled. And the tension at the table seemed to be relieved.

“So I’m going?” asked Raven.

“Yes, but you mind Mr. Weasley and do whatever he says,” he said sternly.

“Um…sure,” she said in a questioning way as though wondering why she would have to be told to mind someone.

“I mean it Raven! You disrespect me all the time, but you will not disrespect the Weasley’s,” he said angrily. The tension in the house was obviously getting to him.

“Yes! Thank you for that! Um…can I talk to you privately for a moment?” Raven said a little embarrassed at his sudden outburst.

The two excused themselves and stepped outside for a moment.

“Is there any reason you had to embarrass me like that? I have been nice you all day, all summer in fact. What makes you think that I would disrespect kind people like the Weasley’s especially when I am their son’s girlfriend? I disrespect you because I‘m a kid. Once again, that‘s my job!” she said furiously.

“I’m sorry for my sudden outburst,” he said solemnly. “You don’t know how hard it is for me to be here.”

“I know it is. But it’s almost over,” she said. “I was wondering though…”

“Am I going to regret this?” he said irritated.

“You shouldn’t. Can I stay for dinner? You can leave and I will be back at a decent hour,” she said with a hint of pleading in her voice. “Think of it as a night home by yourself and a chance for you to trust me.”

The idea of spending a night home without Raven’s constant griping about the house seemed to appeal to Snape because he said yes.

“You won’t regret your decisions, I promise,” she said smiling.

“I hope not,” he said walking back into the house. He apologized to Mrs. Weasley about his sudden outburst. He then walked over to George and stopped.

“I just want you to know that just because you are seeing my niece does not mean I will be any less hard on you during the school year. However, I will trust you not to let anything happen to her and you will keep her safe,” he said to George, who had a priceless look of fear on his face, Raven couldn’t help but smile.

“I will, sir,” he said changing from a look of fear to one of confidence. “And I just want you to know, sir, that just because I am seeing your niece does not mean I will be any less of a pain during the school year.”

Snape rolled his eyes and left. Mrs. Weasley berated George for his comments and told the lot to get out of the kitchen so she could clean it and prepare for dinner. George and Raven went with Fred and Ron to take a tour of the house. Then, Ron was called to do a couple of chores so it was just the three. Fred and George took Raven up to their room where they talked about some of their ideas for joke shop products. After a while George asked Raven if they wanted to take a walk. The two strolled around the Burrow and caught up on latest events, even though there wasn’t much to catch up on.

“You look beautiful today,” he said.

“Thank you,” she said smiling. “You don’t think my uncle made me look bad in front of your mother, do you?”

“You’re fine. My mother knows Snape and knows how he can be. She loves you,” he said trying to reassure her.

“She barely knows me.”

“She knows more than you know. I try to keep her up to date,” he said.

“Thanks…I think,” she said not sure if that is what she wanted to hear.

“Don’t worry, she thinks you’re interesting and sweet,” he said.

Raven felt somewhat at ease. As they walked, though, her uneasiness started to swell again when she realized that they were pretty far from the Burrow, but far enough away to see it.

“What are we doing so far out here?” she asked.

“Well, I anticipated you staying for dinner so I took the liberty of arranging a sunset viewing right before dinner,” he said pointing to a blanket, already on the ground.

She smiled and realized how lucky she was to have George. They both sat down and faced the Burrow. The sun was close to setting behind the trees of the house. It was one of the most beautiful things she had ever seen. The sun was golden and the trees were lined with a matching hue. There was a moment when she felt like they were the only people in the world. The sun was almost gone and fading into a burnt pink when George grabbed her hand and gazed deep into Raven’s deep blue eyes. She returned by staring into his. As the sun disappeared from view they shared a long anticipated kiss. They were locked for what seemed like the longest moment of their lives. It was the most romantic moment they had ever felt since the moment they got together. Raven felt like the luckiest girl to be with George Weasley. As bad as it sounded, she felt as though if her father had not died she never would have found him. She never would have felt about anyone as she did for this person at this moment.

“I love you,” he said as they pulled away.

“And I love you,” she said with a smile on her face.

“GEORGE! RAVEN!” they heard Mrs. Weasley shout from the house. “DINNER!”

“We better go before she reports to my uncle that she couldn’t find us,” she said, not wanting this moment to end.

“She won’t, but okay,” he said getting up and grabbing the blanket.

The two made it back to the house and ate dinner with the family. Mr. Weasley and Percy were there and the whole experience for Raven was incredible. She never knew what a family was like. She only lived with either her father or uncle. Family was a new idea to her.

After dinner, Raven asked Mrs. Weasley if she needed help with the clean up. Mrs. Weasley was happy to have the help. After she finished it was about time for Raven to leave.

“Raven, dear,” said Mrs. Weasley, “I know that living with your uncle is hard and you never knew your mother. If you ever need a woman to talk to, you are more than welcome to come to me anytime.”

“Thank you, Mrs. Weasley,” Raven said smiling. She felt like she was part of a family now. Everyone here was so willing to take care of her and she was happy to be taken care of.

Before long, Raven had to go. She said her goodbyes to Fred, Ginny, Percy, Mr. Weasley and his wife. And then the dreaded time came when she had to say goodbye to George. She knew it would only be for a little while but the thought of another goodbye this summer was hard.

“It’s not for long,” he said giving her a hug, talking about their goodbye.

“I know, I’ll just miss you until then,” she said.

“Yeah, me too,” he said. “But think, we’ll see each other in a couple of weeks and all will be good.”

“I love you,” she said.

“Love you,” he said tenderly.

The two shared a quick peck of a kiss on the cheek and then Raven stepped into the fireplace.

“Bye all,” she said smiling. “Thank you for a great day and I’ll see you in a few weeks.”

She grabbed some Floo Powder from the bucket and spoke the words "Spinner's End." Soon she was back at Snape’s house and Snape was seated comfortably in his usual chair reading the same book.

“I’m home…obviously,” she said. “Thanks for letting me stay.”

“You’re welcome,” he said. “It’s late; you should go to bed now.”

She agreed and went off too bed. It was easy to go to sleep tonight. Her mind seemed rested and it didn’t take long before she was sound asleep. However her blissful sleep was interrupted by the same odd dream that she had on the way home from Hogwarts. She was running through the same maze and she was overcome with weakness and pain. Her hand was throbbing every time she heard the same muffled voice. She ran up to the same light and screamed when she saw the same two figures touch the light. She screamed again and then quickly woke up in a sweat. Her body felt weak and limp. What was it that she was seeing? If it is only a dream, what does it mean? She was still so tired that going back to sleep was no problem. But her sleep was restless; the idea of falling into a deep sleep scared her. She didn’t want to dream that again.

I think Snape has a great understanding of teenagers I love the fact that he can't cook, no wonder he always looks so unhealthy!

This fic just gets better and better! I painted my nails a very 'Raven' colour today (a sort of metallic peacock green, it looks great) and when I turned on the PC, there was the new chapter!

Oatmeal and corn? HAHA! I cringed at that. Typical middle-aged guys... not knowing how to cook... sheesh

Great update! Can't wait for more of the sarcastic Raven. "I don’t want you to hurt your page-turning finger in a cooking accident."

I want to take the time out of working on my next chapter to thank all of my readers for the nominations and votes for my story in the Golden Goblins. I'm not going to deny that I wasn't completely giddy when I found out. At the same time, I was shocked that people were actually reading this. Just to be nominated is an honor and I'm really happy that Snitch Seeker is taking the time to recognize all of the great writers that they have.

Once again, thanks to everyone who nominated me and is voting. Thanks to my readers! I love you all! And congrats to everyone who has been nominated. And to those that didn't get a nom, keep writing...you'll get your shot!

*updated self on the story* I'd kinda been going through a period of not wanting to read FFs. But now I remember why I liked it.

I have to say, this dream intrigues me. And I definitely want to see what's next.

Great job!

New chapter...yay. Okay, let me give you all a warning. The canon might be slightly off on this one. But only a few things. Remember the title of this story too. It's what you haven't heard. I like to say it's what JK left out...haha. Kidding. Thanks for reading!!!

---------------------------------------------------
Chapter 16

The day before the Quidditch game was a tense one for Raven as well as Snape. She was preparing to be gone for a couple of days and wanted to make sure that her uncle was taken care of, for some reason. She prepared different meals so all he would have to do is heat them up and made sure that he had plenty of clean clothes to wear for a couple of days. She had heard that Quiddtch games of this magnitude could last several days, so she wanted to be prepared in case this one did.

“You don’t have to do this,” Snape grumbled as Raven handed him a stack of clothes, “I can take care of myself.”

“Right, eating corn mush and wearing smelly clothes is a great sign that you can take care of yourself,” she said sarcastically.

Snape gave her a strange look, and then sniffed the clothes he was wearing to try to figure out what she was talking about. He must have realized, quickly, what she was saying because he grimaced at his, before unknown, aroma. He mumbled some words under his breath then plopped into his reading chair.

She finished with the last bit of clothes and headed to her room to pack. Soon, Snape knocked at the door and came in. He made himself comfortable in her desk chair and had his typical angry look on his face.

“I wanted to tell you that your portkey leaves at five tomorrow evening. That should leave you plenty of time to get to your tent, get settled and find the Weasleys,” he said, getting up and heading towards the door. Raven looked at him confused. She wondered why he came in, sat down, made his little speech and left. As he opened the door, she stopped him.

“Thanks again…for letting me go,” she said still baffled by his behavior. He mumbled something, that seemed to resemble a “your welcome,” under his breath and continued on his way out. “Is everything okay? You haven’t said much to me since we left the Weasley’s weeks ago.”

“I have a very bad feeling about this.” Snape never looked at her. He continued staring down the hall. It was like he knew that by looking at her, she would see right through him.

Raven didn’t know what to say which, for Raven, is rare. “It’s only for a night or two, maybe. What can happen?”

“Just,” Snape finally looked at her; his face still visibly distraught, “just take care not to upset anyone or get into any trouble. If you see a Malfoy, walk in the other direction.”

“Remember, Uncle! They seek me out. Trust me, if I could ever run the other direction I would.”

It had been a long time since Raven had any kind of contact with any one of the Malfoy family; not since the incident at the Leaky Cauldron, at the beginning of the holiday. Lucius was tormenting her about the marriage contract between Draco and herself. There were so many reasons why she didn’t want to marry Draco, one being that his family was evil, but another being that Draco was a distant cousin of hers. In the wizarding world it is not uncommon for witches and wizards to marry within the family to keep the bloodline pure. However, that was no excuse for Raven. She hated Draco and nearly killed him the previous school year. If it wasn’t for George and Professor Lupin, she probably would have done it and would be living in Azkaban.

Her thoughts were interrupted by a ticking on the window. It was Pig. By then, Snape had left the room. She raced over to the window and let the owl in. Normally she would give him a snack and send him on his way but today she made him wait for her reply.

Dear Rave,
I wanted to know what time you were going to get there tomorrow.
My father has already made arrangements for us to get there early in the
morning. Hopefully, you can just send Pig back with your reply. Can't wait
to see you.
I love you,
George

Raven sent him a reply giving her the details that her uncle just gave her and then sent it along with Pig. She was so excited to be going to this match. She didn’t know a whole lot about Quidditch, only from watching George. George was also excited. He and Fred planned on trying to sell some of their new inventions to people attending the match as a way of gaining funds to push their dreams of a joke shop along. They just hoped that their mother wouldn’t find their creations.

That night, Raven had no problem going to sleep. She was packed for school, because Snape went ahead and arranged for her to stay with the Weasley’s until the start of term because he would have to report to Hogwarts before she got back. She was glad she did her school shopping early, because she only found this out at dinner. The next morning she woke up around 11 am, which is quite early for her, and began getting ready to leave.

“I have already sent your school trunk to the Weasley’s,” Snape said.

“Great,” she said trucking along behind her uncle, as they walked to the portkey. His stride was always so much bigger than hers so it took a lot of energy for her to catch up with him. “Can you slow down? My legs are going to break before we get there.”

Snape didn’t say a word and kept walking as fast as he could. When they arrived, there was another wizard there using the same portkey.

“Are you the other one?” said the grumpy looking wizard who had the funniest muggle clothes on she had ever seen. He was wearing blue trousers with a faint yellow pinstripe and a loud flowered shirt that looked like he just got back from the beach of a tropical island.

Raven looked at her uncle. Under her breath she mumbled to Snape, “and you think I always look ridiculous?” Snape lightly pushed her toward the gentleman and said “have fun” in such a sarcastic way, that Raven gave him a nasty look as she approached the key. Snape walked away and soon the Raven and grumpy, bad dressing wizard touched the key and they were off. As she let go, she landed on a hill that overlooked a sea of tents. It was amazing.

She checked in and found out where her tent was. People were already rushing to the stadium for the match; she knew she had to hurry. George was waiting for her at her tent. She told him to go ahead and she would meet him there, so she could put her stuff away. Her tent was huge, although it looked pretty small on the outside. She had a small kitchen and sitting area, along with a small bedroom. It was cute, but there was no time to look around. She had to hurry to get to the game.

Raven ran out of her tent and made a mad dash to the stadium. She was too busy looking ahead and not looking in front of her face and abruptly slammed into someone.

“Oh! I am so sorry. I wasn’t watching-” she began. She didn’t look at the person she bumped into.

“Raven? Raven Snape?” asked the person.

The voice sounded familiar. She slowly looked up and saw fellow Gryffindor, Oliver Wood. Well, a former one at that. Raven remembered the stories that George and Fred would tell of Oliver and his dedication to Quidditch. She didn’t remember him looking so fit, though. She never thought of him as cute. He was burley and he was an over devoted captain of the Quidditch team. But now, it seemed the little while he was out of Hogwarts had been good to him. He was actually quite handsome now. “Oliver? Wow! How are you?“

A broad smile came to Oliver’s face. “I’m great! You remembered me. I didn’t think you knew who I was. How are you?“

“I’m good! And of course I know who you are. George talked about you a lot. So what are you up to now that the long journey at Hogwarts has met its merry end?”

“I’m on the Puddlemere United Reserve Team. I love being out and traveling with the team. Had to come to this, though. Missing this would be a catastrophe.”

Raven smiled. “It seems to be the big event of the year.”

“You should be a sixth year this year, right? It’s a shame they don’t move you up.“

“It is a shame.”

The two of them started to walk towards the stadium. Oliver seemed to be very nice. Raven never had any kind of lengthy conversation with him. There were occasional hellos and goodbyes in the halls of Hogwarts but nothing else. The two made it close to the stadium and realized that this is where they were to part.

“Well, I’m this way. You said you were in the top box? I don’t know where that is.” Oliver said looking around.

“Me either. I guess I could just ask arou-” Raven was interrupted by a very large, seemingly already inebriated, Bulgarian, bumping into her very hard. The push knocked her into Oliver. When Raven noticed she was in Oliver’s arms, she slowly looked up at him and, for a brief moment, the two gazed at each other. When she realized she was staring at him, she jumped back and felt completely embarrassed.

“I’m so sorry, Oliver. I really shouldn’t have done that.”

A big smile came to Oliver’s face. “It’s not your fault. That guy bumped into you.”

“Yeah, but-”

“I know what you are going to say. You’re with George and the lingering stare was inappropriate.”

Raven looked surprised. “It was. I hope that I didn’t give you the wrong idea.”

Oliver’s face looked like he was trying to hide his disappointment. “It was an accident. We’ll just forget that it ever happened.”

Raven breathed a heavy sigh of relief. “Well, I guess we should be going. I think the game will start soon.”

“It was nice seeing you, Raven. Maybe we’ll see each other again.”

“Sure. I would like that.” Raven realized what she said and needed a quick retraction. “Maybe George and I can get together with you in between Quidditch seasons. We can have lunch or something.”

“That would be great. Tell George I said hi and I’ll see you soon.”

The two finished their goodbyes and went off to find their seats. As she entered the stadium, she really had no clue where to go. She asked many people where the top box was but they were ignoring her. She was about to give up until the people thinned out a little, but just then there was a cold voice that came over her shoulder.

“My, dear…You look lost,” it was Lucius Malfoy in all his wickedness. Raven turned to him but never said a word. Also next to him was Draco and Narcissa, Draco’s mother. “How long it has been since we have spoken? You remember my wife, Narcissa?”

“Sure” she said trying to turn around and leave. This was Raven’s attempts at being nice.

Lucius was prepared for her to walk away because he grabbed her arm and pulled her close. “Now there is no need for rudeness. I’m only here to talk.”

Raven pulled her arm away and just stood there.

“Draco, where are your manners…say hello”, he said.

Draco looked quite confident today. Well, no more confident than usual, but today he looked like he had just won the biggest battle of his life.

“Hello.” He grabbed her hand. She tried to pull back but he had a firm grip. He gently kissed her hand and Raven noticed something peculiar about him. It seemed he was up to something. Though, she couldn't figure out what. “You look beautiful today.”

Raven was at a loss for words. She was wondering to herself what just happened. There was something in Draco’s mind that she was having a hard time deciphering. And to top it off, she felt like something had drained from her. Now she knew that he and Lucius were up to something.

“No witty retort today,” Lucius said in a tone that rubbed Raven the wrong way. “Well, I shall take this moment to agree with my son…” he also grabbed her hand and gently kissed it. “…you do look especially lovely today.”

Raven was in a state of shock. The feeling of being drained came over her again. She saw something in Lucius that made her stomach sink. He was extremely sure of himself and, like his son, seemed to have an air of victory about him. She was positive that they had come up with a plan to get her to marry Draco. She was feeling the food in her stomach come up. Last time she felt this sick was hours before the death of her father. She remembered looking into her father’s eyes before he took a nap and knowing that it was going to be the last moment she would spend with him. The thought made her ill for several days even after his death.

“Well, I can see that you have somewhere you want to be, I do too,” he said putting his hand on his wife’s back and pushing her along. “Have a good day, Miss Snape.”

He walked away with his family and all Raven could do is just stare at the floor. The feeling in her stomach was getting worse. She ran as fast as she could to the nearest restroom. A cold feverish sweat ran through her body. It was like everything she had eaten in the last few days was coming up. She was in there for quite a while and every time she would go to the sink to wipe her face, she would get sick again. Finally she felt a little better, then wiped her face and rinsed her mouth out with the water. She stared at herself in the mirror and wondered what in the world she was going to do. Her face was pale. Her eyes were drooped. She couldn’t stop shaking. After a bit of staring at herself and the sink she realized she needed to find George and attempt to watch the last of the Quidditch match.

She finally made her way to the minister's box and noticed right away that the match was over. Ireland won, but the Seeker from Bulgaria, Viktor Krum, caught the Snitch. As she looked around the Minister’s box, Fred and George must have placed a bet with Ludo Bagman because they were collecting on it. When George noticed her, he ran over to her and told her the good news.

“Where were you?” he asked concerned.

“I wasn’t feeling well and I couldn’t find where I was supposed to go,” she said with a smile on her face but clearly upset.

“Are you okay?” he asked, rubbing her arms. He knew that something was upsetting her; she just didn’t have the heart to tell him now. She was about to tell him that she was okay for now until she noticed Lucius and his family saying goodbye to the Minister and then looking over at her and George. Lucius gave her a mischievous smile and looked back at the Minister and some other officials that were there.

“I’m going to be sick, again,” she said to George, covering up her mouth to try and hold it in.

“Okay…well let’s go.”

They were about to walk away when Lucius stopped them and put his finger under Raven’s chin.

“My dear, you look quite ill,” he said to her with a worried tone but with an odd grin on his face.

“She’ll be fine,” said George, trying to be polite but obviously seemed quite perturbed that Lucius even acted like he cared.

“See that you take care of her. We need her alive and well, don’t we?” he said. George just glared at him while Raven just stared at the ground. “Good day, Mr. Weasley. Raven.”

Raven was clearly getting sick again and ran past the Malfoys to find the closest bathroom. When she left the bathroom she saw the Weasleys, Harry and Hermione waiting for her. They all seemed concerned with her health. She just told them it was probably something she ate earlier in the day and left it at that. When they got back to the tent area, Mr. Weasley suggested to George that he go ahead and walk her to her tent and see that she lay down for a while.

“Sure you’ll be okay?” asked George, who did not want to leave her side.

“Yeah, thanks,” she said quietly.

He gave her a hug and kissed her on the forehead. She wanted so bad to tell him about the contract, but there was no clear way to do it.

“George, you know I love you right?” she asked him, not wanting to alarm him, but knew it was going to.

“Of course! I love you too,” he said, obviously wanting to know why she would ask something like that.

“I just want you to know that I do and always will. No matter what happens, I need to know that you love me and I need you to know that I love you,” she said, her voice starting to crack under the pressure. She desperately didn’t want George to see her cry.

“You're scaring me, Rave. Are you sure everything’s okay?” Raven could tell that George was anxious and clearly wanting to know why she was saying these things.

“It’s complicated. Everything will be revealed to you soon, I promise,” she said looking at her tent. She knew that the news of her marriage contract would hurt him, but the only reason she never told him was that she was sure that it would be absolved before any major steps would be taken on the part of Lucius. “In the meantime, promise me you will enjoy the celebrations while I rest.”

“Sure…if you think that’s best,” he said with hesitation in his voice.

He kissed her on the cheek and Raven walked into her tent. She stood at the entrance and peeked her head back out to see George.

He stopped for a moment, as if wanting to go back on his decision. But instead turned back to walk to his tent. Raven sat on a chair and thought for a moment. She had to get back to her uncle. But she needed to talk to someone else. She couldn’t tell Hermione or Ginny, they would tell her that she would have to talk to George right away. The only person she could think of to talk to was Mrs. Weasley. She remembered that Mrs. Weasley told Raven she could talk to her whenever she wanted, but how would she react when she tells her about the contract. She realized that Mrs. Weasley was a good person and may have an idea on what to do to get out of the contract before Lucius makes a move. She had to leave the grounds, and she had to do it now.
