Fifth-Floor Corridor

https://i.postimg.cc/8zR3mBgF/corridor-banner7.jpg
To some the fifth-floor corridor is arguably home to the more interesting corridors at Hogwarts. While it too is decorated with long carpets and various portraits, the statues are just as memorable as the unique nooks and crannies that can be found here. Each of the doors look identical and are evenly spaced out, which can make finding certain rooms difficult. Hopefully that doesn't make you late to Ancient Runes. You know that won't go over well.

In the event that you have some spare time on your hands, do allow yourself to freely wander about -- just don't get lost like Boris the Bewildered. Roaming around, you will see that this particular corridor goes around The Quad and that there is a balcony overlooking the inside of the Clock Tower. Deeper into the fifth floor a casual reading lounge, a storeroom, and an upper hall can be found in addition to Classroom 5B, fondly known for being the headquarters for the Wizard Card Collectors' Club. With a keen eye, who knows what you will find on this floor of the castle!

Frog Choir rehearsals

The Frog Choir often did their rehearsals down in the Great Hall. Not only were the acoustics excellent, but it only made sense to rehearse where the choir tended to do performances. Club clashes, however, were also a thing, and necessitated a little compromise and sharing of the common areas from time to time. For that reason, Friday afternoon rehearsals often took place up on the fifth floor.

Kamran was in a reasonably good mood today, despite the fact it was the first Friday in October - hurtful month - and ran through today's song choice in his head as he strolled to 5C, a wheeled tank full of school toads and a mobile gramophone magically trailing behind him. He refrained from actually singing to himself; though it was no longer a hidden talent per se, he was not exactly prone to warbling in the streets. Corridors. Both.

At the door of the arranged meeting place, having arrived a good ten minutes early to set up, Kamran made to push his way into the classroom and almost caused himself a minor injury when he collided with the locked door, subsequently rebounding off it.

"Wake up, Kamran," he muttered to himself, drawing his wand to cast a quick Alohomora. He turned the handle and pushed on the wood again, but the door seemed determined to stay wedged in its frame.

FearlessLeader19 01-12-2022 01:22 AM

“Hello, hello, Headmaster,’’ Jude said by way of greeting. There was the usual friendly smile on his face, by the way. A quick look around the corridor told him that he was among the group that arrived early. And of course he was. It was only natural as he was a member of the choir. Jude, not able to help himself, grinned fondly at the sight of the toads. Already he was in anticipation of this fine Friday’s practice.

Then his gaze was back on the Head. “Er… do you need some help there?” Something caused a hold up that they couldn’t get into the room?

BanaBatGirl 01-12-2022 01:22 AM

couldn't resist the opp to antagonize

...what was this? What utter nonsense was this?

Edric stopped and stared, full-on gaped, at the sight of the Headmaster bouncing off a door. Heh. He chuckled, muttering under his breath,

"And I thought I was bad at magic." Not as rubbish as this guy, though. Who had promoted him, honestly?

He shook his blonde hair and kept walking, although more slowly this time, so he could lurk awkwardly and also stare at the other childe present.

Charely Potter 01-12-2022 03:12 AM

Freddie was all but ready for the rehearsal when he arrived seeing the Headmaster and Jude. There seemed to be trouble with the door though, just as he passed the blonde Slytherin... wait who was he? Freddie thought he knew enough Slytherins, "Maybe his magic was too good if he locked it this strongly," Freddie smiled at everyone before walking up to the toads. They were so fresh and coaky. He wanted to hold one already but he had to be patient.

"Hello Headmaster, would we have to practice elsewhere if we can't get in, sir?" Freddie asked his eyes still on the toads and other items.

Watson 01-12-2022 03:34 AM

Lisa had decided to join Frog Choir this year. It was a last minute, impulsive decision to get her refocused on fun things and not drama. “Hello!” she greeted the group, noting Jude was there. She hadn’t really spoken to him since the past summer. She’d have to catch up after the rehearsal.

Her eyebrows raised when she overheard some of her fellow students’ comments to Headmaster Kamzi not being able to get the door to open. Huh? How come that was it? Did someone pull a prank? She stood near the third and fourth year Slytherins. Listening to Freddie’s point, she built on it. “Could the door be stuck on something?” she offered. Maybe something even stronger was preventing it to open.

Freddie did have a good suggestion about finding a new place to go practice but hopefully nothing wide in the open. She didn’t wish for her friends to find out she signed up...

Eventually they were going to find out.

Chelliephone 01-12-2022 03:39 AM

Evan had a basic knowledge of which clubs practiced where and when, in part due to his overextending himself club wise in the terms previous, though that's not what he had been thinking of as he meandered through the fifth floor corridor. He'd actually just been heading down towards lower floors but paused noticing the group stuck outside the classroom.

He paused in his gait near the group, spotting a door that should have been opening... Not doing so. Perhaps someone or something had blocked it on the other side? If anyone had known this was when frog choir was supposed to be practicing, it would have been a good time to pull a practical joke. Though risky with a Headmaster's extra curricular if you asked him.

The Ravenclaw didn't have much to contribute regarding the door, and instead looked curiously at the school toads. Why did they call it frog choir instead of toad choir?

ArianaBlack 01-12-2022 04:08 AM

Frog choir practice? No, no - Jasper was on his way up to the Ravenclaw tower and just so happened to know a fantastic shortcut that went past this corridor. To be quite frank, he didn't even know they had a choir for frogs here. Super weird. Also weird? Seeing all his friends gathering around an unopened classroom for no apparent reason. "Yo, Ed," he called out (much louder than he needed to). And "Leeeees! No way, I was just heading up to-"

....

What was the headmaster doing here? If this was early exam prep, Jasper needed to know so he could avoid this corridor in the future.

"Happy Friday, sir." Turning back to Lisa, Jas gave her a funny look. "What's going on?" At least he had the decency to lower his voice this time.

Deezerz 01-12-2022 08:45 PM

Percy was exciiiiiiited! He's never handled a toad in his life, which is why he decided to join the choir things. Only for those precious toads. Last Friday he couldn't make it because he'd gotten a stomach ache from eating expired jelly beans. They'd been in his favorite backpack since...you know what, he wasn't going to try and do the math.

Reaching the place at the time indicated, Percy found the peoples...

Waiting.

"Maybe tickle the doorknob," he suggested to the Headmaster and demonstrated by wiggling his fingers.

kayquilz 01-12-2022 09:02 PM

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP.

LALALALA LA LAAAA “LA LA LA LAAAAAAAA!!!!” Arden was practicing on her way up and suddenly stopped where a small pool of students had stopped, her voice abruptly breaking to accommodate the sudden change of plans. Why were people not singing? Was she in the right spot? Was she late? Was she early????

Arden nudged Percy, a fellow first year. “You’re in choir? I’ve never noticed you before,” she said. Then again, even if she had noticed, she probably forgot. There was a lot Arden either didn’t notice or that she didn’t remember. There were a million things always happening at once in her head. It was a lot.

Felixir 01-13-2022 12:27 AM

"Hello, Mr Anders," Kamran replied, after a quick glance up to make absolutely sure he was speaking to that particular student. "No thank you, I... hm." He paused, now noticing - because he was specifically looking - what seemed to be a little damage in the stonework around the door.

"I'm sorry to hear that, Mr Cambridge," he said politely to the boy who passed by, ostensibly glossing over the intended barb, almost as though he'd missed his meaning entirely. "I can always add some extra lessons to your timetable if you're that concerned." Meaning, enough that he raised it here in the corridor, poor little lad. And then came McLeod, who earned the tiniest quirk of a smile. "Afternoon, Mr McLeod. I think perhaps we shall, just for today."

Because of that damage he'd spotted, a slight cracking in the stone. Nothing alarming, though perhaps enough to cause a shift in the wall and wedge the door in place? Kamran could not say, as buildings and architecture were not remotely in his wheelhouse. Perhaps someone had pranked the room in such a way that it was necessary to force the door. Or both, a little joke ending in property damage.

Instead of forcing it, he began setting up the gramophone right there, directly outside the classroom door, while addressing Miss Nam's suggestion. "The door might have warped, or someone is playing silly beggars with the classroom. In the interests of time, we'll rehearse out here, and I'll see to it later." No need to disrupt the schedule and risk over-running, and also no need to give a potential prank the audience its perpetrator would be looking for. Kamran opened the gramophone case, and the entire machine bloomed up and out like some kind of hideous daffodil with no petals.

"Hello there, Mr Nam," Kamran eyed the Ravenclaw as he happened by. Quiet this year, wasn't he? Some attendance issues too, but that was not a matter for here and now, or even for Kamran to handle at this juncture. "Mr Botros." Another who was not a usual member of the Frog Choir. Not to be unreasonably suspicious or anything, but it made a guy wonder if someone just happened to pass by today in order to view the results of their handiwork. Kamran didn't say as much, didn't remotely let on, but he did privately take note of those who were here but were not expected, or did not usually stop by.

These two first years? Not in that category. "Mr Baltazar, Miss Toros." Kamran nodded to each in greeting as they arrived (the latter he'd heard well before sighting) before opening up the tank. "We'll give it another five minutes. In the meantime, come get acquainted, or re-acquainted, with the toads."

And he would... tickle the doorknob, as Baltazar had suggested, even if it was for the sole reason of making sure these younger kids knew they were being listened to. Kamran was by now set on the rehearsal taking place out here where they still had ample room and good acoustics. "Doorknob isn't very ticklish, it seems." Still a no-go, but no matter.

Watson 01-13-2022 12:38 AM

Lisa nodded to the Headmaster’s response. Practicing out here would be fine… like who possibly came to the Fifth Floor Corridor at this tiiiiime.

And her attention was so focused on the Headmaster and the door that she did not notice Jasper Botros, perhaps the last person that she wanted to see her HERE, arrive on the scene. She froze when he called out to her. Like super still, statue like except for the millions of butterflies that frantically flapped about in her stomach. “Jas! Uh… fancy seeing you.. um… here? I didn’t know you came here often!” she called out to him, plastering a smile on her lips to hide the panicked look she had worn a millisecond ago. “To do what?

And then she wrapped her arm into his and decided to make him an official member. “Come with me, yeah? You’re our newest member of Frog Choir.” With that, she smirked wickedly at him. She was totally messing with him but she just kind of felt maniacal. “We’re going to get acquainted with the toads…” she smiled.

FearlessLeader19 01-13-2022 12:59 AM

Jude nodded. He was quite fine with the Headmaster having things under control. There was utmost confidence in that particular man. He drew his gaze around as others joined the party. The boy smiled brightly at Lisa, who was still the sweetest {well, second sweetest after Keigh} he had ever met. Was she into Jasper? Was Jasper the person she had been referring to in their conversations over the summer? And then there was Evan. The questioning gaze he gave the Ravenclaw was only one that wondered if he was doing alright in that moment. Jude hoped their talks about certain stuff were helpful.

The Hufflepuff was beginning to get impatient {how un-Hufflepuff like!} and his gaze shifted back to the Headmaster. “We should just camp out here then,’’ he suggested brightly to Kazmi, not at all really worried about where they had practice. It was all about the SINGING after all. Jude shuffled over to the now opened tank. “Hello, guys and girls!” Was it still weird talking to the toads? Uh huh.

Deezerz 01-13-2022 03:29 AM

There was Arden the Rainbow Girl at his side. When did she get here? Percy had no idea, but he grinned at her. "Nah, I don't sing. I'm here for the toads." The MVPs of the choir. He's heard they're massive and Percy wanted in on it.

"I didn't know you sing," he said to Arden, and quickly got distracted when the Headmaster proceeded and--"HE TICKLED THE DOORKNOB!" he whispered in awe. Percy appreciated that the Headmaster attempted the tickle. He shot him a grin and a thumbs up. "It's okay! At least you tried." That was the most important thing, really.

It was time to adopt a toad, though. "Arden, wanna help me choose a toad?" He wanted the biggest one of all.

ArianaBlack 01-13-2022 03:46 AM

He had noticed the frogs (...? ... toads? .... frogs? ... they were the same thing, really), but hadn't thought much of them. Weird things happened at Hogwarts every day. Weirder things have happened, actually. Like the way Lisa was acting. That was weird. Was she okay?

Come here often? "... The corridor?" He gave her a funny sort of smile. "To find you - I have some new songs for our playlist!"

... But uh, on the topic of music-- Frog Choir? Everyone here was part of the frog choir? The funny look reappeared on his face as he let Lisa weave her arm through his. "Uh, cool, I guess?!" He was ... down to go with the flow. Join the club full-time though? He'd have to circle back on that. Couldn't have that messing with his quidditch schedule.

While Headmaster Kazmi was occupied with the door, he turned back to Lisa again. "Dare you to kiss one." Or did that only work with frogs?

New songs??” she beamed widely. Okay she was so so excited by this. “What kind of songs?” She wanted to know everything about the updated playlist.

She glanced over to him as he just agreed to go with the flow and her cheeks turned bright pink at that. He was so… nice. So easy going. Down with the flow of life.

Dare me to what? Did he say the K word??? He wanted her to kiss her. “Thats an easy dare,” she smirked back at him but feeling her stomach flip flop incessantly. “I.. a kiss… in front of everyone?

Shy she was.

oh You said KISS ONE! I’m yeah challenge accepted. What if he turns into my Prince? You wont be jelly yeah?

"Good ones, I'll show you later," and he was a man of his word.

But for now, frogs? ... Toads? ... Frogs? Maybe they could sing TDK. It was a wonder that frogs (... toads?) could sing at all. All news to Mr. Botros, who had apparently become an unofficial member of the choir today. Hey, since when was Lisa in frog choir anyway? He couldn't remember her ever mentioning it - and he would remember something like that.

Weird. But anyway.

He smiled as she accepted the challenge, unaware of the mental gymnastics it took her to get there. "I'll try my best not to be," he laughed, nudging her gently with his elbow. You know what? Yolo. "I'll do it if you do it." Headmaster Kazmi did say to get acquainted...

She pouted. “After this yeah?” She was touched that he had added more to it.

Lisa raised her eyebrows, nudging him with her elbow. “You would seriously be jealous of me.. so say I kissed Daniel. You’d be jealous?” she whispered curiously. She needed to know some guard rails for everything.

She picked up a toad happily greeting it. “Alright… what’s my prize out of aaaall of this?

MadMadamMalfoy 01-13-2022 05:15 AM

Desiree skipped down the hall on her way to frog choir, humming A Whole New World as she went. She wasn’t sure what to make of Frog Choir yet. She loved to sing, but frogs? Why did they need frogs? They were slimy and gross! Why couldn’t they sing with something cute and cuddly instead, like a kitty or a pygmy puff?

She came to a halt as she saw the crowd gathered. Having arrived a few moments too late to see the headmaster struggling with the door, she was confused as to why everyone was hanging out in the corridor. Seemed a weird place for choir rehearsal! “Hiiiii, everybody!” she greeted, waving a gloved hand - and not just any old gloves. She had elbow-length opera gloves like Cinderella’s. Not only did they look pretty, but they would hopefully keep any frog slime off her hands!

Wait, they were doing what now? Desiree took a small cautious step closer to the tank. She didn’t want to touch a toad yet (or probably ever!), but she supposed there was no harm in saying hello. Maybe the toads were good inside like The Beast? “Erm… hello, Mr. or Mrs. Toad,” she said to the one nearest to her. Her bright blue eyes darted apprehensively toward Headmaster Kazmi. “Headmaster, are the toads really slimy?” she asked.

kayquilz 01-13-2022 07:10 PM

THE TOADS? Arden just thought that was very funny of Percy, and it made her belly-laugh. "Toads are really cool, I agree. We had a toad at home once, but one of my snakes ate it," she made a sad face as she remembered. "But that was a wee lass of a toad, not one of these chonkers," she explained. And the circle of life and all that. When animals died, she was always a little sad, but Arden, under her mother's guidance and constant advice, knew this was just how it was when working with animals. It made her wonder what would happen if one of their toads they chose for the choir ever got hurt or died. Also, who cared for the toads when they weren't in the choir? "Headmaster, do you think the toads like being in the choir?" she asked curiously before turning back to Percy.

If she had known he thought she was "Arden the Rainbow Girl" in his head, she probably would have loved it, but alas. "I don't sing amazingly, but I ENJOY singing, and I think that's half the battle with most things. If you enjoy it and believe you can do it, you're 75% decent at it, whatever it is," she shrugged before giggling a little at the doorknob tickling. It MIGHT have worked, and Kazmi would never had known had he not tried it. "Okay! Let's pick!" she said excitedly.

...and were those two other students really going to kiss the toads? She had opinions, but she'd keep them to herself. Like, did they think toads and frogs were the same? wasn't it a FROG that princess had kissed?

But as Desiree's question, Arden quickly turned to her. "Actually, no. They're very dry. They only LOOK oily because their skin secretes stuff that makes it look like that. They're not slimy at all," she informed her with a big smile because HEY LOOK. She HELPED!!!! And Desiree was a fellow first year, and she loved helping her fellow first years!!!!!!

MadAlice 01-13-2022 08:42 PM

Violet was not at all sure she belonged here, but she had wound up making a promise to Miss Howard before they parted this summer that she would get involved with at least one extracurricular activity. And Violet was no good at sports and games as a rule, so she thought she might as well try this. She firmly hoped she would not embarrass herself by her singing, and, well, at least the toads would be interesting.

But when she arrived in the corridor, she saw there was a large snarl of students milling around the door. Moving closer to the back of the crowd, she deduced from some comments that the door was locked, or stuck, or...something else. It was always 'something else' around this place, wasn't it? "Maybe we could jimmy it open manually?" she offered helpfully. She might have such an implement in one of her pockets, taken from her father back in her second year. Or perhaps her plastic Muggle library card might work.

"YO, JAS," Edric fired back reflexively, without even thinking. He tilted his head at the lad Freddie, who did have a fair point. "Maaaaaaaaaaaybe." Didn't they have a caretaker here though? Wasn't that the caretaker's job, to take care of things, like doorknobs and squeaky hinges and cobwebs and dusty floors?

He got distracted looking where the other lad was looking, at the toads, though he had no desire to touch one and just the thought of picking one up and feeling its icky, sticky skin had him feeling icky and sticky as well. Unless it wasn't sticky. What if it was bumpy? What if it was actually textured like a bumpy bump thing, like a wart? What if it GAVE YOU WARTS? Wasn't that how warts worked? One with warts (the toad, in this instance) touched one without warts (himself, currently), and the virus transferred, and possibly mutated, and then you had warts, and if you had warts on your hand, and decided to touch your warty hand to yo---

You have to teach AND headmaster? Yeah, I can squeeze those in, as long as Jas-Bot comes with. He's big into quidditch." He wasn't sure if he should be taking extra lessons of any kind, but maybe he needed them, and he did like hanging upside down, but also, he really didn't understand if the Headmaster in this instance was being a jerk or not, and needed his much more socially adept friend to confirm.

Do we do extra classes, yay or naaaaaaaaaay? Did Cambridges take private lessons? Y/N? Probably a Y?

This was Devin’s first time attending a frog choir rehearsal so he wasn’t quite sure what to expect. All he knew was that the choir had toads so he had brought his toad with him from his dorm. Carrying his toad in a small travel size terrarium, Devin approached the group that was gathered outside the classroom where he had heard they would be rehearsing. Most of the faces in the corridor were unfamiliar, but this could be a good opportunity to make some new friends. Hey, check out all the other toads! His toad could make friends too! “Hello everyone, Headmaster Kazmi. I haven’t been in the choir before but I thought my toad might enjoy it, if I’m allowed to audition with my own toad.” It sounded a bit silly really, getting involved in something for the sake of his toad, but there was another reason he wanted to join. Lukas was, like, really good at music stuff. Maybe he could sing with Lukas sometimes and Lukas could come see him perform if he was in the choir. Practicing with the choir would hopefully make him a better singer. Devin didn’t really like the pressure of a bunch of people staring at him for solo performances, but with a group no one would be focusing on him individually so it wouldn’t be as scary.

Chelliephone 01-14-2022 03:21 AM

Hearing his name from the Headmaster, Evan turned his attention from the Toads to the man and offered a small incline of his head. "Hello, Headmaster. I hope you're well." Was it weird for the boy to miss the classes with the previous flying instructor? He'd never been much at the subject, but he'd been getting better under the man's instructions and he'd always been encouraging.

As more and more people showed, Evan took a step back from the toads and observed. There was... a surprising turn out for the frog choir. Had it always been so big? Certainly seemed there'd been a large turnout for practice. Or perhaps some of these individuals were just wanderers, like himself. Turning to observe the group, he did a double take noticing his youngest sister. Had she always been apart of this or was he non-observant? And was his non-observant self eavesdropping hearing her and the Hufflepuff talking about kissing? The Ravenclaw couldn't help but frown, as he made his way to stand closer to his sister in a protective manner. "What are we plotting over here?" He'd be direct.

All the faster to make sure there was no one trying to kiss his little sister.

Another glance around the group, and Evan noticed Jude's eyes on him as he gave a small nod of his head and a half smile. He was fine at present, better than other days. Though he certainly appreciated the concern. He couldn't remember him mentioning being apart of this elective previously, but frankly it did not surprise him that his musically inclined friend was. What did surprise him was the amount of rather exuberant first years. They always managed to lift his spirits slightly, just by their sheer excitement.

Evan noticed Devin's approach to the group as well, giving him a nod of his head in hello. He briefly wondered if anyone else was here as a mere observer, considering the Ravenclaw had yet to move on. Perhaps he'd need to do that once he'd established his sister was fine.

ArianaBlack 01-14-2022 04:12 AM

"You bet," he smiled widely - their playlist had become one of his favorites. He had used it as hype music before matches over the summer. Jasper Amir Botros was invested! Hopefully this singing frog stuff wouldn't take too long, but he wouldn't complain. He'd be patient. Down to clown, and all that.

But the rest of the conversation was for sure going over his head. "... Daniel?" He pulled a face. Why did Lisa want to kiss Daniel!? It was true, Daniel and Jasper had come a long way since their first year, but Jas was no more than indifferent to his dormmate and as far as he was aware, Daniel felt the same. They existed together. That ought to count for something at least. And while he knew that Daniel and Lees were super tight, it hadn't ever bothered him before. But why would she want to kiss him? Like, Daniel? Really?

So when Lisa asked about prizes, it took a few seconds for Jasper to pull himself back, but by then, Evan had come over.

...

What were they plotting? He shot a look over to Lees. Her call. He didn't want to get her into trouble with her big bro, so he'd let her decide whether or not they let him in on their secret (FUN) plans.

And while she decided, Jasper heard his name. "TRUE THAT!" The being big into quidditch thing. Was he being loud again? Ed never minded.
