Hufflepuff Table

For those who belong in Hufflepuff House, in the middle of the Great Hall is where your table awaits. Gold banners containing an embroidered black badger float above the polished table in honour of the loyal Helga Hufflepuff. Already placed on the tables are silver plates with accompanying cutlery and goblets. All that is missing right now are the mountains of food and pitchers containing your favourite beverages.

Though your stomach might be growling as you take a seat on one of the long benches next to the table, it is important to not get hangry -- gnawing your arm away or jabbing your fork repeatedly on the surface of the table will do no good whatsoever. Give everyone some time to get settled in and wait for Headmaster Kazmi to deliver his speech. Keep yourself preoccupied by catching up with your fellow housemates or those who are visiting from the other tables until it is time to sink your teeth into the hearty and delicious meal prepared by the house-elves.

The end of his fifth year!

This meant there was time to relax before those OWL results got delivered. Then again, Jude was not worried or nervous because he had done his best and he'd had the best sort of help for his studies which had come in the form of his dorm buddies - especially Dafydd - Bella, Evan and his sisters. Yes, this Hufflepuff was confident. And rather happy it seemed, for he flopped down at his House table, beaming at those gathered there already.

He wished things would hurry along for he was rather ravenous.

Daffyd was more than ready for the end of the school year. After countless hours of studying this term and enduring all of those OWL examinations, he wanted nothing more than to turn his brain off for a while and relax. Summer was calling to him, and he was going to welcome it with open arms.

At least until his results came in.

No, no, no. He wasn't going to think about those right now. Instead he was going to free himself of anything OWL-related so he could enjoy a well-deserved end-of-term feast and the break ahead.

With a little pep in his step, he walked alongside the Hufflepuff table and plopped himself at a spot beside Jude. "We did it, mate! We survived OWL year!"

How?!

That was this evenings big question. How was it the end of term feast already? Her third year was over. When she returned next year she was going to be a fourth year, no longer one of the younger years but also not really the older ones either. She would be smack in the middle. Which she really didn't care about, the middle wasn't all that bad. Plus she had the entire summer ahead of her and she already had plans!

On her way to her house table, a quick search of the great hall was made for her family and friends a bright smile given to each as they were spotted. Making a beeline directly towards her brother Jude, the blonde sat herself down on his other side. "Hey Jude," she sang softly as she always, lightly nudging him with her elbow. "Hi Daffyd." Cue her head falling onto Jude's shoulder as she sometimes did to her.

Speaking of Dafydd…

Jude grinned happily as he watched one of his closest friends approach the Table. Jude was definitely not the only one who was feeling the weight of exams going poof, as he deciphered from Dafydd’s steps. “We did! And we don’t have to worry about major exams until about two years from now!” That meant that they would be graduating from Hogwarts but that was a long way off. “Muggle Studies went awfully well, I should think. Bound to get an O in that one.” It was his favourite subject. “Transfiguration… I’ll be thankful if I even get an A, honestly. My snuffbox still had fur by the time I was done.” He gave his friend an amused look. At the time Jude was completing the practical exam, he had been quite worried and aghast at his snuffbox. But now? It all seemed funny. At least his least favourite subject was giving him something to smile about.

Hearing the greeting being sang out, the fifth year turned his smile to his younger sister as she flopped down beside him. “Hi, Keigh!” He nudged her right back. When her head dropped to his shoulder, he bumped it with his. “Not tired already, are you?’’ he teased, despite there being concern for her. Girls were weird like that, he knew. One minute they were bursting with energy, the next they were tired.

Desiree practically skipped her way to the Hufflepuff table. With her second year all but officially behind her, this princess Puff was looking forward to the break. Between dance classes, shopping in Diagon Alley, and the annual family trip to France ahead, it was shaping up to be a fun summer! But first, tonight’s feast. She daintily sat at the table, adjusting the yellow daisy she wore in her hair for the occasion. So what if Hufflepuff hadn’t won the house cup? At least they weren’t in last place!

“Hi, everybody!” She greeted Jude, Daffyd, and Keighley, giving each person a princessy wave. “Ready for summer?”

From the gently returned nudge to his head bumping against hers, Jude always knew how to make her smile even when she already was. He was great at making sure she was always happy, which she typically was so no worries there for anyone. Tired though, her? During a feast? Absolutely not. "No way, you just make a nice pillow," Keighley laughed playfully. "If it's going to take ages before we can eat, I may as well be comfortable while I wait." This time she spoke with more of a joking tone but there was always a little hint of truth behind it as well.

Keighely smiled warmly at Desiree when she joined them at their house table. She liked the slightly younger girl, who reminded her a bit of herself with the cheerfulness that radiated off of her. "Hi, Desiree! I know I am, do you have any big plans for the summer yet?" As much as she loved talking about what she was going to be getting up to this break, she wanted to also hear whatever else would be doing as well.

Ooh, look the speech was happening! Turning her head to listen to what the Headmaster had to say, all she really heard was that the sphinx was going to be remaining at Hogwarts. Well wasn't that nice! Keigh really hoped that she liked staying in the Forbidden Forest and that she would be safe in there. Her attention shifted onto the table before her that held all types of food, drink and desserts which she began to put onto her plate as soon as she could.

"Thank Merlin for that!" Daffyd responded, having no complaints at all about not having to take such intense exams for a while. "And next term we'll have less classes to worry about," he added as an afterthought, already knowing which classes he'd not be continuing with.

It was no surprise to him that Jude was confident with the likelihood of receiving an O in Muggle Studies. He personally wasn't quite that confident with the subject; after all, he had only taken on the class because Jude was. "I'm sure I got an E, thanks to you and those many study sessions. And I didn't do too shabby with Transfiguration. Astronomy and History of Magic were a nightmare though." Nothing was certain, however, so all they could do was wait in anticipation and wait for the results to be delivered.

OWL talk was set aside when fellow badgers joined them at the table. "Hey, Keighley, Desiree." As for Desiree's question, he replied, "Mentally drained from exams, so I'm very much so ready for summer. Will have a few days to recharge before starting my summer job." As for her summer, he didn't ask about it, but he was going to listen in since Keighley had already asked.

When the headmaster started his speech, Daffyd actively listened. Nothing out of the ordinary besides an update about the sphinx and Slytherin winning the House Cup. He was excited to see more of the sphinx next term, and, when it came to the cup, he was at least glad that Hufflepuff wasn't in last place for a change.

"Well, time to dig in!" he said to them all, digging into the meal that the house-elves had cooked up for them once it had appeared.
