Graphics by Roselyn Just like River herself, her office is warm and inviting though pale and gentle in colour. The Scottish woman has influenced the room slightly with blues and greens that remind her of the Atlantic, but in general the decor is crisp and modern.
Her desk is to the right of the door as you enter, with two single pictures sitting side by side. The first, holds her husband, her daughter and herself in Paris this previous Christmas and the second, holds a much larger group; her siblings and their families. It is obvious that as well as a love of creatures, due to the large bookcase full of non-fiction tomes and lexicons, that she is also a lover of her family and friends. After all, you need to believe there is something to fight for if you want to extend those rights to others.
To the left hand side, stands the aforementioned bookcase and a circular table with five chairs for meetings with other Department Head's and her staff. Similarly, she was sure the extra space would come in handy when she needed somewhere to compare notes and data. OOC: Hi everyone! Please feel free to stop in past and talk to us. Okay so....Ember hadn't gotten much of a chance to talk to the new boss yet other than over work stuff and whatnot, but she had official business! It was now safe to tell people that she was indeed pregnant, and with this, she thought she'd get her maternity leave all settled.
She wasn't showing yet; not at all, actually. She wondered when the heck THAT was going to happen! The bubbly pest controller was IMPATIENT FOR IT. She WAS patient with waiting for River to answer the door once she knocked, though.
"Can I come in, ma'am?"

Signing off on yet another set of meeting notes and confirming that she agreed with the notes that had been taken, the Scot rubbed her hand as a knock sounded through the wood of her door. Thinking for a second, she tried to place the voice.

Nope. Sigh. She had thought she was getting better at recognising her staff by their voices rather than their faces. Obviously, she still needed to work on that.
”Of course, come on in.” She smiled as the door opened, and silently berated herself for not recognising the voice of Mrs Konstantinova. ”Ah, good morning Ember.” River stood from her seat, glad to stretch her legs over so slightly to welcome the bright and colourful woman into her office.
”What can I help you with?” She motioned to one of the padded chairs opposite her desk and waited for her to sit before doing so herself.

Ember smiled pleasantly at her boss and nodded at her politely as she took a seat. The office was so...white. Which made the few colors stand out a LOT...and it looked cool to Ember even if it wasn't her style. "Nice office, ma'am. Very clean looking, too. Sophisticated..." she gestured with her hands. She felt smiley, though, at the news she was about to share.
"Well...I came here to discuss something important. I...uh...well.." she giggled softly and looked at her lap as she blushed. "My husband and I--he works for IMC--we're...." Oh GOSH she got to say it ALOUD! "We're expecting our first child," she couldn't STOP smiling. "And...I'm due in October...October 10th to be exact." Cue excited wiggling in her chair, all smiles for her boss.
COULD OCTOBER BE HERE ALREADY?
"And...I'll need to set up a...maternity leave..."

The work week started off good with the fact that Mordred has been left undisturbed from his work inside the Dragonology laboratory. That condition however, did not last long when the junior dragonologist saw the memo from his department head on his desk. Mordred immediately picked up the parchment, and read the content, his knapsack still hanging from his shoulders.
Frown. Now what could this woman possibly want from him? What did he do this time that caught the woman’s attention? Shaking his head, he allowed himself to settle in first and arranged all of his paper work in one neat file while the others were dumped on his out tray. It was his usual Friday routine, given that Fridays were exceptionally quiet in his department. He’d been observing of course.
At 9:59 a.m., Mordred was already standing outside River’s office, still wondering what this is all about. Feeling the small pocket journal in his pocket one last time, the dragonologist breathed out slowly, and knocked on the department head’s door. 10:00 a.m? Good. She should be inside now, yes?
Knock, knockety-knock knock. Knock-knock.

The first few months (okay, YEAR, really) had been quite tough on Olly. Not because people had treated her badly or because she didn't like her job. No, the opposite had been the case. But she had still been anxious every single day she'd gone to work. Mostly because she'd expected someone to realize that she wasn't in fact qualified enough for this job.
Now, though, now she'd been here long enough to know that she wouldn't just be fired for no good reason.
Which didn't stop her from feeling just a tiiiiny bit anxious when she'd found the memo telling her to come to their department head's office. It couldn't be anything bad, though, right? No, she'd done her work meticulously as always. Of course, lately Olly had been a liiiiiiittle bit distracted for reasons but that didn't mean that she'd not done her job right. So, what was she doing here then?
Still holding a cup of tea - it both warmed her hands and kept her from fidgeting - Olly moved one hand away from her cup to knock on the office door. | |
