Mini Golf Course

http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/...t/minigolf.jpg

Grab a club and try your hand at some mini golf! With eighteen holes in all, each hole is decorated, dramatically, with vibrant colored obstacles, both magical and mundane. Will there be a windmill blocking your path to a hole in one—or maybe some hopping, charmed toy frogs will gobble your ball up! How long will it take YOU to get all eighteen done? Go with a group or go alone—regardless, have fun and try not to break anything (or anyone) along the way!

Amelia was excited and nervous but mostly excited! This was her first orientation since the news and well seeing as she had been on the road with the Gobstones circuit she hadn’t exactly told many of the people at work the news! Had she even told Emmy or or or well anyone at work about things? She wasn’t sure. She was just standing by the minigolf course with her club in her hand.

“okay…we can do this you used to play quidditch” she muttered to herself and grinned around at everyone. Okay so really this was going to be soooo much fun wasn’t it? Orientation? Again.

A bunch of new possible friends!? New friends she could invite to her eventual wedding…gosh she needed to get a handle on the blushing she probably looked like a joke with her hair the color of the flamingo pink ball on the ground near her.

Was Lucas nervous? Yeah. Heck, yeah. But not for the reason you would think... this being his first official day since being hired by the Ministry of Magic. Nah, he was nervous because he had left his four year old nephew with a sitter. He was even more nervous about this than he had been the first time he dropped Brody to Primary Wizarding School and the first time he stood in front of students to teach them flying at Castelobruxo Wizarding school. COMBINED.

"He's going to be fine, Lucas. He's going to be fine.'' He kept repeating that in his head as though it were a mantra. Lucas didn't even realise he was staring at a woman on the gulf course until the light breeze carried one word to him- 'Quidditch'. What did she say about that sport he loved so much?

"Uhh, hi? Ex- excuse me?'' What a nice way to make a first impression, Lucas. The young man cleared his throat. "Hi.'' Ahh, much better. A steadier voice. "Did I hear you say something about Quidditch? Did you used to play?''

Autumn wandered around the Orientation, looking at everything going on. She was both excited and nervous at the same time. It was like her first day at Hogwarts all over again. Today, however, she was more nervous. Firstly, she was an adult and an employee, so she had to act all mature and professional. Secondly, she did not know anybody here, so she wanted to make a good first impression. Ughhh.

The eighteen-year-old walked into the next area and almost squealed with delight. It was a Golf Course! It was no Quidditch or Gobstones, but she liked the activity nevertheless. Grabbing a club, she was considering her options when she spotted a pink-haired woman and another guy - and they were talking about her favorite Wizarding sport! Autumn casually made her way to the pair. "Hello, are we talking about Quidditch?" she smiled.

itsjustjesse 02-13-2016 07:52 AM

EEEP someone had heard her talking to herself…wait…it wasn’t like this was the first time that had happened now was it? The twenty-two year old blonde grinned over to the guy who was now talking to her. “Yes? Oh…yeah you did” she flushed somewhat.

“I played on the Ravenclaw team actually…I was actually a reserve Chaser mainly” she admitted with a grin. “I’m - yeah we are” she grinned at the girl who was walking over toward them.

“I was…well honestly talking to myself trying to give my self a good old pep talk” she laughed, “and well…mentioned that I used to play – I was more a commentator than anything” she admitted with a grin. “I’m Amelia Johanson by the way – I…well, I’m from Games and Sports actually?” She grinned, “I’m work with Gobstones though” she admitted still grinning. Not her favorite sport, but it was still fun.

Why yes, golf! Well, not the full golf course he was expecting, but Ryden was pleased about the place nonetheless. Thinking that he should practice his game in the field, he skipped the buffet table and all the socializing, for now, and headed towards where the putters were, got himself one and headed towards where the first hole was.

He got the golf ball out of his pocket, placed it on the grass and calculated his swing. He realized eventually that he didn’t need to be so serious with his game. In the event that he gets to socialize with diplomats and ambassadors, he’d have to let them win even if they’re so bad at it.

Golf! Claudette had lost track of Luc in the crowd and had somehow made her way onto what she identified as the golf course part of orientation. Considering her choice of shoes, high black heels to go with her beige dress and petite stature she felt totally lost and out of her comfort zone.

Why had she come out here? Unsure, what to do the blond, 20 year old, made her way back, doing her best to not trip towards a man swinging around a golf club. Putting on her sweetest and most charming smile as she approached the older man, greeting him before he hit the ball. "Hello, is it mandatory to be able to play golf at the ministry?" If it was then she was doomed.

If only Luc had told her more about ministry things.

Plok.

Ryden had hit the ball with his putter, watched the ball roll towards a little bit to the left of the hole, slowed down...and fell inside the depression with a dull thud. Ryden-1, Mini Golf Course - 0. Somehow, him attending to delegates and VIP personnel during their downtime made him interested in the sport. Never did he imagine to like golf, since it is such a laid-back recreational activity, but he guessed the interest came with age. A few years more and he'll be in his 50s. He really ought to like sports that involved silence and concentration.

With a grin, he took a few steps to retrieve his golf ball, and was about to go to the second course when somebody took notice of him.

Turning, Ryden smiled at the young woman...and had to applaud her for her braveness to be out there wearing killer shoes. "Oh hello." he said approaching the woman, "Oh no, I don't think so. Not everyone is into this sport I must say." he added. "That question however, leads me to the conclusion that you are new in the Ministry." he said smiling at her warmly. He did remember his younger years when he was new to the ICW. It was such a huge organization that they didn't have the time at all to arrange such welcome parties. His first day involved of a very short and boring orientation.

For Gabby/Whit

Archer walked into the Ministry of Magic in Britain for the first time as an employee.

And he had a beautiful woman next to him.

Not only were they currently in holiday in Brazil, they were fortunate enough to work together. Not in the same department, of course, but they could arrive and leave together. Archer had told her that he had been offered the job within the Experimental Breeders section, but he was yet to tell her that he had been offered the position of head botanist.

Walking through, he saw a mini golf course. He let out a laugh and turned to Gabby. "Want to play a game with me?" he asked with a grin. "I wanted to tell you some good news." He had been having too much fun on their holiday to bring up something like that. He didn't want all of that attention. He wanted to put his own attention on Gabby. She was so beautiful.

London always seemed extra boorish when compared to somewhere exotic like Brazil. Gabby couldn't wait to get back to vacationing with Archer, but there was lots of time for that and there was this little thing called being a good employee.

She just needed to be patient was all.

At least she had her guy with her - that made her really happy even if he was steering them towards the mini golf? How was she supposed to respond to this?

"I've never played before," she admitted. Nothing to be ashamed about; she'd never seen the point of something like golf since it didn't make sense to her, but Archer seemed to want to play so she was game for it. What was she supposed to do? All Gabby could see was that there were brightly coloured obstacles. "What did you want to tell me? Is it about work?" They hadn't really talked about work on their vacation, because they were too focused on each other.

The older man seemed to know what he was doing Claudette resolved even if she was by no means an expert. As the man got closer, he made an observation that made her tilt her head slightly to side as she asked curiously. "If golf isn't for everyone then why are they offering it as an exercise at orientation, and why do you play it?" It didn't make sense. Was it to get people to bond over the holes?

Pushing the thoughts out of her head Claudette nodded excitedly. "Yes I'm new to the ministry and to the department of International Magical Cooperation. It's my first day actually. How about yourself? Are you new too?" Or was he a seasoned ministry veteran?

FearlessLeader19 02-13-2016 04:46 PM

Amelia & Autumn ^_^

The blushing on the woman's part did not go unnoticed and Lucas thought that maybe she was shy about being caught talking to herself. "I'm sorry. I uh, didn't mean to overhear you. The breeze just uh, carried your voice.'' Okay, Lucas. Go ahead. Be an awkward mess again. He was somewhat relieved that she went on talking. "That's really nice. I've played for Hufflepuff a few times.'' Was this why the woman seemed vaguely familiar? Had he known her from Hogwarts?

"Hi.'' Nice. His voice wasn't a mess this time around to the newcommer. "Yes, we are.'' Lucas offered her a small smile. Ah, introductions. "I'm Lucas Hawthorne, Quidditch Public Relations Officer, officially joining the Ministry today. Amelia Johanson... I recall your name. I think we may have been at Hogwarts at the same time.'' He was even more sure of this now.

"If either of you don't mind, I'd like to join in.'' He just needed to get himself a club.

This young lady has so many questions, and Ryden is a fan of it. He enjoys people’s curiosity, giving him a glimpse of how their brain works. The 42 year old smiled, and leaned on his putter as he considered her question. “I suppose it is to help people around the ministry to loosen up and break the ice. If it wasn’t for casual orientations such as this, the day could be daunting to those who are new to the work force. New, meaning young bloods just like yourself.” Ryden nodded and offered her a warm smile. “Also, the sport is a great way to release some tension and nerves.” Was she excited to be in the Ministry though? “You look very young, so I suppose you’re a fresh university graduate? Is this your first job?” Ryden bounced back a few questions her way to get to know her more, and, well, to make her feel at home.

Who knows, maybe she’ll be in the same—

Wait, what? “Oh brilliant! We are in the same department actually.” The man said, nodding enthusiastically. “I am new too, but this is definitely not my first job.” Ryden chuckled, and shook his head. “Where did my manners go? I’m Ryden Reed, Foreign Relations Officer.” He said, “You are Miss...?” he added, tilting his head to the side.

Autumn grinned at the two. So they were Quidditch players at Hogwarts! She thought it was cool, but decided to stay quiet. After all, she was the only one who did not play on her House team. You couldn't blame her either, because the sport was cancelled throughout most of her school years.

Okay, introductions time. "I am Autumn Carey, also in the Department of Magical Games and Sports. And the Gobstones Division." They were all in the same department! She was lucky to meet two of her new co-workers at the same time, in the same place. "I am new too!" She added to Lucas. So if he was nervous ... he should know that she was too. Possibly even more.

"I don't mind." Autumn smiled and glanced at the golf course. Was that a toy frog guarding one of the holes?

Lynley took any sport she decided to partake in VERY seriously. So, as she walked towards the mini golf, that determined glint in her eye was enough to scare off ANY CHALLENGERS, okay? She grabbed a club and...noticed Gabby. One of her adored employees. The one she had just given a raise mind you.

"Gabby. How lovely it is to see you," she said with a raise of her eyebrow at the man. She totally thought Gabby was married. And didn't know the husband worked at the Ministry. Well. She supposed you learned something NEW every day. "If you don't mind, I'd like to play some mini golf--" she eyed the first hole. "Unless you two want to go first." She didn't want to cut them. Oh no, that would be terrible manners. "Go go--take your shots--" she said, gesturing at the hole.

Heh.

"And who are you?" she asked the man with Gabby, giving him the coldest stare she could muster.

Steelsheen 02-13-2016 06:17 PM

mentions Lynley and this is for everyone ^_^

There seems to be an extraordinary amount of people this orientation cycle Vickers noticed. New blood is always a good thing in his book. But there was something else that’s new that caught Vickers' eye.

Putt-putt!

He smiled to himself and strode towards the greens quickly. Was he excited? Well as excited as the normally taciturn former Ravenclaw can be. This was a game that played his strengths. That sentence alone was pretty darn rare to even think about.

And just as he was collecting his golf club and the balls, he saw his boss. Still Ms Lynley and not another new face that makes his tummy flip flop in anxiety. Awkward friendly wave hello to you bosslady.

And now he gotta get his game on.

Saz Hale 02-13-2016 06:21 PM

Deliah was wandering past the mini golf and smiled she hadn't played for a while and she looked about to see if anybody wanted to play with her

lemon 02-13-2016 10:08 PM

Sherman was sure most folks in wheelchairs didn't attempt to play mini golf, but he was an anomaly. It was most definitely an appealing part of the lovely orientation planned for the new year, and he wasn't keen on refraining from participating just because of a minor conflict such as that one.

Seemingly, plenty of others had the same opinion as him, because the course was certainly not short of people. Grabbing a golf club and some balls, the Minister grinned at everyone before him as he took a spot in line for the first hole. Some friendly competition, eh?

He could do this!

Archer grinned at her. "That's okay, I can show you how to play." He gave her a wink, learning them both towards the golf clubs. He hadn't played this game in ages, but he would enjoy teaching Gabby. Not that he was entirely convinced she would enjoy it.

He nodded and looked at her, pausing for a few seconds. "I got offered the position of Head Botanist," he said. He had been ecstatic when he was offered. He felt... ready to settle down. Ready to settle into a permanent job, rather than freelance. Ready to give up his bachelor days. But he was not, of course, ready to settle into a house. Unless that house was his tent.

At that moment, they seemed to be approached by a woman who knew Gabby. Archer gave Gabby some space to greet her friend, whilst he fetched some balls. Upon returning he was greeted with a nice cold stare that made Archer want to wink at her. But no, he saved his winking for Gabby. "Archer. And you?" he asked, simply, but friendly. He had no time to play into cold stares.

"Can I have a look at what you've got or did you want me to show you?" he asked Gabby. He wouldn't mind helping her out.

WhittyBitty 02-13-2016 10:57 PM

Of course Archer could show her how to play. Gabby smirked. She knew that he would enjoy it even if she wasn't sure how she'd feel about the game herself. At least she'd get to stand close to him and that was enough to sell her on the idea. "I definitely need you to show me." Wink.

"You got offered HEAD Botanist?" Her eyes widened, not out of shock that he had managed to land the position, but because he was giving up freelance. "That is absolutely amazing! I am so happy about that. You're really giving up freelance?" She knew how much Archer disliked staying in the same place; he was a traveler just like her.

As Lynley approached them, Gabby saw Archer walk off for a second to get their stuff. "Hello," she said with a small smile, though the expression faltered when she saw the look on her boss' face. "Archer, this is my boss and friend, Lynley," she said in introduction while wondering what that cold look had been about.

Apparently...the man's name was Archer. Hmm. Lynley softened her gaze and clapped Gabby on the shoulder. "Well, yes, we're friends--" she smiled. "And Archer, it is nice to meet you--" her whole demeanor seemed to have changed as she held out her hand for the man to shake. "I'm Lynley Purcell--Transportation Department Head--boss of Gabby, I suppose but--" she grinned. "Apparently we have a lot to catch up on, Gabby..."

AHEM.

And then, well, she was bloody curious. Was this Gabby's husband? Was this just a FRIEND? He was a very cute 'just a friend.' "It's a nice day for mini-golf. I'm actually quite good at golf...regular golf. Not so sure about the MINI here," she eyed the different holes and all the challenges each hole seemed to present to her. "You two don't mind if I join you?"

He could do this!

Okay, this was actually cute, even as bummed as Tala was, she could seriously appreciate this. Who didn't like mini golf? Souls people, obviously, and Tala definitely had one of those. The blonde glanced around curiously, did they have different colored balls? Tala peered at the set-up, looking for a spot of blue, pink, green or even black balls, but alas, they seemed to only have plain old white. So whack. Having teared this slight disappointment, Tala resigned herself and took up a club and boring white ball and headed to the first hole, only to find the lovely sight of Minister her work boyfriend Sherman awaiting her.

"Hey Minister," Tala said, smiling his way. "Are you here to make us all look terrible in comparison?" Seriously, the man had style.

Awesome People <3

He gave Gabby a sheepish grin as she reacted to his news. She made him happy. "It is amazing, isn't it? I'm really happy." He thought about how to answer her question without being THAT guy who needed to settle down. Because he wasn't that guy. He was just... ready for this. "I am, giving up freelancing to be back in the lab. I can still research specimens around the world when we're on our travels though." He wasn't THAT ready to settle down. Merlin, no. Not when he could take his beautiful Gabby around the world with him.

Archer gave Lynley, who both ladies introduced as Gabby's friend and boss, a smile. He extended his hand to shake hers. "It's nice to meet you Lynley."

Ahh and... they were already planning some girl talk? He tried not to chuckle, although he'd already told his brother about Gabby.

So Lynley was good at regular golf, apparently? "Well it's... pretty similar," he supposed. "Just don't swing quite so hard." Or the ball was likely to fly through the room and smash into someone's head. He gave a shrug. "No, I don't mind. We can go first Gabby," he said with a raise of his eyebrow. He gave her the club and set a ball at her feet, then stoof behind her. He wrapped his arms around her, resting them on either of her hands, his mouth right near her ear. "Now, just a little tap, and try to get it into the hole there," he whispered into her ear, guiding her hands, and the club, out a little way, before gently swinging it back to tap the ball.

SPOILER!!: Amelia and Lucas!

Amelia grinned “oh please don’t worry I just…remembered all the times I was caught muttering to myself back at Hogwarts” she grinned over to him. “Wait Hufflepuff? Did you know a guy named Kaiden Yarborough?” She asked beaming “he’s actually my well” she glanced down at her hand and grinned somewhat goofily, “well…I guess not technically he’s my fiancée?” She beamed a bit at the thought of it. “I used to do the commentating at Hogwarts – I have to say Alice Fischer’s nickname biter was a fitting one” she grinned.

“Nice to meet you Lucas,” she grinned over to him. “I believe we did too though honestly I was mainly referred to as Mika back then?” She admitted with a grin. “I’m all for a game? Especially with new coworkers – games and sports is definitely going to be a lively place this term” she grinned.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you Autumn,” she grinned over to her. “I’m glad to meet one of my new coworkers so quickly, honestly if either of you need anything don’t hesitate to ask.” She grinned “I’ve been here a few years now? So lets give this a whack then? I should warn you its been ages since ive played anything remotely like golf” she grinned as she got ready and smacked the little ball a short distance down the range. “I told you, I’m awful” she beamed.

He could do this!

Club in hand and balls in the other, Vickers walked to where the first hole should be. But his gaze fell on someone with a wheelchair. Side peek?...

Asfdasdfasdfas it’s the Minister.

He looked around wondering if he was allowed to come near him or he would be tackled by invisible trolls aka the Minister's body guards.

They wouldn’t actually hit a guy with glasses would they? Ok so they're reading glasses and not currently on his face right now but yeah, that’s his defense.

"Hello Minister Clarke..." the gangly Transportation geek greeted the elderly fellow "My Uncle, Corin Vanderbilt, said you two used to work together in the Department of Mysteries several years back. He's been wanting to give you his congratulations for being elected Minister."
