Arrivals and Departures (Floo Network and Phone Booth)

Stretching towards the golden gates is a wide corridor lined with multiple gilded black marble fireplaces. Here is the main floo network and phone booth used by Ministry workers and visitors alike for arrivals and departures. The luster of marble has over time acquired an illusionary, shifting emerald green from their numerous uses; the marble stretching out to touch the dark wood floors that run down the corridor's center.

To the left are the floos for the arrivals of employees, and those located to the right are for departures. Visitors arrive through the red phone booth centered at the opposite end of the hallway. While many of the employees are busy rushing in and out of the floos, you may catch a few standing around awaiting the arrival of another before heading on there way. You may do the same, and even hold a conversation before heading for the gates or exit. Though it won't be much of one with the close quarters and carrying voices.

For Dmitry! :D

The usual desk job will definitely bore him out of his wits, therefore, Paxton vowed to be a hands-on Department Head to reach two goals: get the job done faster, and not doze off inside his office. One of the many tasks of his department is to regularly check the status of the floo network. They do have magical means to keep track of it, but Paxton, born as a muggle would rather inspect it with his eyes, hands, and wand.

So there he was, checking each and every fireplace to make sure that the supply of floo powder is abundant, as well making sure that the general area was clean. There will be no accidents on the first day of work. Not when he’s patrolling the floo himself.

Paxton heard an almost inaudible rumbling sound. Oh yes, that gentle rumbling sound could only mean that someone was going to arrive. Only…he’s still got his face stuck inside that particular fireplace…

Ehh…woops?

Dmitry hated floo. Like really, really hated it. Why did he have to sleep in today so that the floo would be the only way for him to get to work on time? Obviously he'd done something wrong and was being punished for it. Although he couldn't work out what exactly he'd done to endure this torture. Surely though he was reaching the end of it. His grate must be coming up soon. He hoped.

And look there, it was at an end. He was about to touch down on blessed solid ground. He'd kiss it if not for the fact that would be extremely unhygienic. Only he also wasn't touching down on solid ground. But on another person...

Stumbling on the landing Dmitry tripped slightly on the guy who had his head stuck in the floo, only just managing not to fall to the ground outside it. "Are you alright?" Dmitry asked as soon as he'd gotten his footing. He really hoped he hadn't hurt the other man, but then again if he had it wouldn't really be his fault. Who stuck their heads in fireplaces when they knew the floo was active?

Well...yes, definitely the fireplace was active. What Paxton didn't know was his head was currently inside the active fireplace where a person was sure to arrive any time. It took him moments to realize this, and was about to get himself out of it when bam!

Paxton backed away immediately, tripping on himself and coughing the residue of the floo powder out of his lungs. "So much for having a good first day..." he muttered to himself as he got up and dusted himself.

The Department Head, whose hair was now full of soot looked at the young man before him. Boy, are all Ministry workers in here that young? There was Kyleigh, Patrick, Vincent, Enzo, and all of them were in his department. "Oh don't worry about me, young man. I'm fine." he said as he grinned at the boy. He lost count as to how many times he fell on his motorbike, and thank Merlin he is still intact. "I'm sorry about that, mister. I thought you were coming in from the next fireplace..." Huh. Maybe he should do something about that...

"Welcome to the Ministry." Errr, yeah. Awkward? Kinda.

Dusting himself off, another thing he hated about using the floo network, Dmitry looked carefully at the other man. Was he sure he was alright? Because he had fallen over. At least he wasn't bleeding or anything...

Young man? That was kind of flattering. Although he certainly didn't think he classified as young anymore Dmitry was not going to correct him. He could call him young all he wanted. "It's fine," Dmitry said, waving off the apology. "Are you sure you're alright though? I didn't actually step on you did I?" because that could be dangerous and this guy might just be saying he was fine. In which case Dmitry would have to feel guilty. "You know, I didn't think they actually manually checked the fireplaces while the floo was active," not that he'd really know but it didn't seem like that bright of an idea. Especially if they apparently couldn't tell where a person was coming from. This guy was probably lucky that it wasn't a busier time of a day.

"Oh. Um. Thank you." So smooth Dmitry. So smooth. And he was meant to be a liaison and trained in Diplomacy. That was totally coming through with this stranger.

Well, he did step on his face, but that is entirely his fault. No need to worry this guy now, "Oh, yes, yes. I'm absolutely fine. I've had grander accidents before," Like, falling off his motorbike while in full speed? Yes, well he can thank his magical blood for that because if it wasn't for it, he'd be dead right now. "Not a scratch see? I'm good." Nod nod. And yep, he really shouldn't do that again, and most probably warn his employees about sticking one's head while the fireplace is active.

But then again, what if it's the only way to check if the floo is working? "Oh, I may have to check with my employees then. These networks should run perfectly smoothly everyday."

"Again, I'm terribly sorry about the incident." Paxton wiped his hand on his trousers and offered it to the young man. "I'm Robert Paxton, Department Head for Magical Transportation." Well, double the awkward because this bossman just made a fool of himself. Meep.

"I suppose I'll take your word for it..." Dmitry said, still slightly uncertain about whether the guy was actually telling the truth. Even if he wasn't though there wasn't much Dmitry could do about it. Wasn't like he could manhandle the man to the Specialty Area to see a Healer or anything if he didn't want to go. He was at least telling the truth about there not being a scratch on him which did allay Dmitry's worries somewhat.

"I'm pretty sure they do. Well apart from when no one could get into the Ministry..." Because they definitely hadn't been working then. Luckily for Dmitry though he hadn't been one of the people who'd tested if the Floos worked. "It's good though to see that transportation is so dedicated to their jobs though." Even when the mode of transport really was more like a torture device.

He was talking to the Department Head? Now this was slightly embarrassing. Interesting story though for this guy if he ever wanted to tell it. Not that he likely would. It wouldn't look good on his behalf. Dusting his own hand off Dmitry took the other mans hand in a firm grip, shaking twice before letting go. "Dmitry Konstantinov. IMC Liaison and Security Council Member," if they were giving out positions he might as well give his full job. "Nice to meet you."

Stefan 10-30-2014 09:09 AM

Paxton was impressed with this young man. He has the poise, and was delighted to know that he worked for the International Cooperation. At least he'd met with somebody from that Level, because hello, international broom manufacturers? Paxton wondered if he can be a spy for their department. "It's my pleasure to meet you, Mr. Konstantinov." Russian, then? Good. Paxton returned the handshake with a firm one, then stuffed his hands back in his pockets.

"Ah yes...the...Chizpurfle Infestation, if I'm not mistaken?" Robert read the DP years ago about it, and he wondered if somebody from within the Ministry was trying to sabotage the government institution. He'd leave that to the Creatures Department though. "I hope the Creatures Dep were able to contain the last Chizpurfle." What would he do though, if that wasn't the case?

Then there was the compliment. His department is doing a good job? Well, that could only mean that their former boss did a good job, and he, in return was inspired to continue the 'tradition'. "Dmitry Konstantinov..." Paxton tried out the young fellow's name once more, "You have an unusual name for a Brit. I suppose your family came from Russia?" He was able to venture that place some years ago during his solo travels. During that time too, he was able to accidentally uncover some funny broom business in one of its wizarding districts, and he wondered if the young man could help. Hopefully those who are selling illegal and unapproved brooms won't reach their border...

Saiai 10-31-2014 07:49 AM

Dmitry kept his smile polite as Paxton shook his hand. It was a firm grip, which said a lot about the man's confidence.

Dmitry clasped his hands behind his back, keeping his posture perfect as he prepared to have an actual conversation. He was talking to a Department Head and he didn't have any appointments so it was unlikely that Gidyun would mind if he was slightly late. "That's right. It was awful, everything was a mess. Creatures has got it all under control, or at least that's what a friend in Pest Control tells me," Mitya informed the man, giving a slight shrug. He didn't really care too much about what had happened to the Chizpurfles as long as the ministry didn't have another infestation. He actually had personal effects in the office now.

Dmitry's grin was a little less polite, but a bit friendlier as Paxton said his name was strange for a Brit. "I suppose it would be strange if I was a Brit," Dmitry agreed. "My fathers side is Russian, my mothers French. I grew up in both those countries, only moved to England a few years ago." So Paxton was actually mostly correct, just not entirely. "Have you ever been?" It seemed that quite a few of the people he met had spent at least a little bit of time in Russia.

Stefan 10-31-2014 11:16 PM

The Creatures Department must have been a huge mess the last time then. "And was it true that you had to continue Ministry operations in...abandoned muggle places?" Now that was really, really interesting. Maybe it wasn't convenient at all, having to keep everything a secret from the muggles, but Paxton thought it was a grand adventure of some sort.

Oh.

Oh, so he's not British. Those people from the young man's department must be a huge mixing pot of nationalities. Now that is one interesting group! Paxton did the same, and tucked his hands behind him as he listened to Dmitry talk. "Oh I know about moving. I was actually born and raised in Dortmund, Germany. Moved to Leeds just in time to start my education in Hogwarts." But he's not German...er...biologically. "My parents are Brits, so technically that makes me an Englishman biologically though born as a German citizen." Confusing stuff really. It was a good thing he didn't have any kind of identity crisis during that time.

Paxton nodded at Dmitry's question. "Yes, I was able to cross Russian borders during my solo travel and passed by the city of Moscow," Paxton recalled as he stroked his chin. "I was also able to, well accidentally, discovered a black market for racing brooms. I'd have to consult my journal for the name..." The department head shook his head at his memory and stuffed his hands in his pockets. "I am not sure if they have a contact here in England though. I'd have to keep an eye on that one...and I might be needing your help if something comes up." Paxton made a mental note to meet up with Mr. Konstantinov's Department Head soon.

Saiai 11-01-2014 02:29 AM

Ahh, so the man did know about that debacle. "That's right. The building IMC was in wasn't too bad, although some of the other Departments got stuck in some strange places. It was actually my first year here so I got to work in an abandoned building before the Ministry," which hadn't been too bad really. At least his laptop worked there and doing things electronically was so much simpler. "Of course the worst part was that we had an interfering Muggle Secretary so we really had to watch what we said. It wasn't too bad when talking about liaising with other governments but keeping Product Testing away from her prying eyes was a bit more difficult."

Dortmund? If Dmitry wasn't wrong Sevastyan had spent some time there a few years ago. He didn't really know much about the area though so he simply nodded politely. "Did you like Hogwarts? From what I've read it doesn't seem like the safest of schools to attend..." which was a slight understatement since he still remembered that her first year there Stasya had aged dramatically. Luckily the healers had fixed his cousin before she got old enough to die. He sort of didn't understand why everyone who went there was so fond of the place though.

A black market racing broom ring? Dmitry frowned slightly, head tilted to the side as he considered what Paxton was saying. "I think I know the one you're talking about, I used to be Head of Prosecution in Russia," Dmitry explained."At least I do if it was around in '82. The MLE were investigating it, putting a case together. I think we were nearly ready to prosecute when I transferred here. I don't recall anything about contacts in the UK being in the file, but that could have just been because they hadn't discovered the connection yet," he mused, casting his mind back to the case. Of course it could be a totally different ring in which case the information he had would be completely incorrect.

Ah. He wanted Dmitry's help. "Of course if there is a connection I'd be happy to help. I'm still on good terms with quite a few of the MLE over there. You might want to officially bring it up with Gidyun though." For all he knew his boss might already know about the problem if there were contacts in the UK, and if he didn't it might be something that needed looking into. The MLE should probably be alerted too.

Finding yet another good place to get her face seen, Victoria picked an empty spot. Yes this would look good though would it be hidden? She backed up a bit before checking in all directions.

hmmm.. hmmmm

Would you be able to see it if you came from this side? She moved to check, yes it seemed like you would. So Victoria pulled another poster out and opened it. Would this one be right for here though. She wasn't so sure. So she grabbed a different one and looked at it.

"Much better"

For this spot that poster was perfect.

Indeed, Lynley thought she would never enter the ministry in that way again. She felt disoriented and..majorly woozy. Just fabulous, really. Merlin.

She rubbed the bridge of her nose a couple of times and stepped out of her toilet slowly because tripping over herself was NOT on her list of things to do in front of employees. NOPE. Once she was OUT of the toilet, she glanced around....waiting for her fellows. Everything seemed okay so far? So far so good???

She hoped?

sweetpinkpixie 12-02-2015 07:29 AM

...and that was about as pleasant as was to be expected, but at least he was dry so he knew THAT worked at least.

Pinching the bridge of his nose as he took a few steps away from the fireplace, Aron felt a little dizzy. Perhaps a little too dizzy for how short a trip down it had been, but when one was not used to flushing yourself in on a daily basis it was a predictable outcome.

"See you're all in one piece," he noted, gesturing vaguely towards Lynley. Two for two thus far.

TeafortheSoul 12-02-2015 09:26 AM

Rusty thought about bacon sandwiches the entire flush down, and he stepped out with a slightly distracted expression.

Oh yeah. He was here safe. And he'd have to let Aron know about the muggle too.

Roselyn 12-02-2015 07:10 PM

There was possibly some stumbling. Maybe.

Playing it off as she leaned coolly against the side of the fireplace, she waited for the area to, y'know, stop moving in circles before even thinking about doing anything. Though she did give a shaky salute in the general direction of her boss.

All good, sir.

Nordic Witch 12-03-2015 08:15 AM

Logan suddenly came to an abrupt halt feeling quite dizzy. He stretched out a hand to steady himself with the use of the fireplace wall. When the world finally stopped spinning he was relieved find out that he wasn't wet.

Lifting his arm to sniff his shirt Logan was pleased to find that it didn't smell like sewage water. Stepping out of the fireplace he saluted Aron to show that he was there in one piece. Then walked over to his sister-in-law asking "Are you okay, Mary?"

Symphora 12-03-2015 10:08 AM

Charles wasn't cut out for this. No, his head was spinning terribly. He felt sick in his stomach. Urgh...rubbing his forehead with his fingertips, he stumbled a little out of the fireplace. He checked himself for any damage. Good, he didn't splinched himself which means that the trip was a success. He dusted the soot off his clothes and glanced back at the others. It seemed like almost everyone made it through.

As for his toilet carrying 'buddy', Logan, he noticed that he was checking on Mary.Hmm...what was his relation to the woman, he wondered. He re-adjusted his glasses before crossing his arms. So...now what? Were they finally let off by the bossman?

Jessiqua 12-03-2015 10:44 AM

... And out she came in the arrivals area. Zhenya looked around to make sure she was with everyone else. Yes, there they were, she gave a smile to her boss, the transport lady boss, and some of her colleagues. Now they just had to wait for the others to get there, she assumed?

WhittyBitty 12-03-2015 03:42 PM

And that was never happening again if she could help it.

Feeling slightly disoriented, Gabby waited for a moment before stepping out of the toilet. She wasn't going to stumble out like some fool; she had grace, so she did it flawlessly like she did everything else.

Moving over to her Department Head, she contemplated asking for a raise but then decided to wait until this was dealt with. She was seriously the ONLY person from Transportation who had come and even though she regretted the decision, part of her figured it was a good thing to support her boss and get praise for it.

VRSCIKA 12-03-2015 04:13 PM

Kai had never done this before and it threw her for a loop. She came out.....but she came out dizzy. She twirled and tumbled and rolled flat out onto her butt and that was about the least graceful landing that you could have had. After blinking a moment and realizing that she was there.....and had her bottom on the ground she looked around and laughed.

"That was like getting stuffed in a barrel, holy moly is it always like that?" She said to no one in particular , grinning even though she knew that she had been the opposite spectrum of graceful. That was worse than her first time surfing and getting taken down by a wave though. If it was always like that.....who would want to continuously come into work that way?............Okay maybe she'd do it again.....

FearlessLeader19 12-03-2015 05:20 PM

Was it over?

Megan opened her eyes which she had squeezed shut when she had flushed herself. She smiled in relief when she saw she had indeed arrived at the fireplaces. There were her colleagues and everyone seemed to have arrived safely.

The blond stepped out of the fireplace to make her way over to Kai. "I don't know. It's the first time I've used them but it wasn't that bad.'' At least not to her. She was dry and had made it in one piece. The toilets were working.

Jessiqua 12-03-2015 09:08 PM

After standing there for a few minutes. Or... was it longer than a few minutes? Zhenya felt her cheek twitch. Once. Then twice. Merlin, that was odd. Was she supposed to smile? Perhaps that was it. Perhaps those boss people needed the workers to show a cheerful disposition whilst standing in the arrivals area. So, Zhenya smiled, a small smile, but the twitching was still there. So, she smiled a little bigger. With the twitching still there, she slowly lifted her hand and gave her cheek a slap.

"Oww," she said, looking at her hand. Who did this hand belong to? She looked up, and around, eyeing everyone off. Then she looked down at it, up the arm, and saw it was attached to HER! Merlin... Her eyebrows shot up in surprise. And then a grin spread across her face and she started giggling. How did she think it had belonged to someone else? hehehe. After quite a few giggles, she let out a snort, which was absolutely funny.

Wait, though. There was work to do. She looked around for her big boss man and once she had spotted him, she walked over to him. "Mister..." what was his name again? "Ashthorne-Hawberry what are we to do now? I can do anything, sir, anything you need." Big grin.

kayquilz 12-03-2015 09:15 PM

Lynley nodded at Aron. "Thank Merlin--that company is good for SOMETHING at least--" she smiled and....watched as more of their people began to arrive in their grates. Oh look, there was her employee...

Uh...

What was her name again? Lynley shook her head a little...WHAT? How had she forgotten the name--but--oh. Oh...Gabby. Yes, Gabby. GABBY was her name. How silly of Lynley to forget. "Well--I guess we're waiting on a few more--lovely--everyone feel okay?" she asked. "After all that hard work, I feel you're all not feeling too........." a smirk crept back onto her face. "POOPED--"

hahahaahahHAHAHAHAHA Lynley was so funny! POOPED! GET IT? Toilets? LOL.

Why was that person giggling? HMM? Lynley's joke was funny. "I know--I know--I should become a COMEDIAN--" she smirked smugly at Zhenya.

Pooped.

POOPED!

Zhenya's lips twitched as she tried to hold in her giggles, but there was no use. LOLOLOLOL, giggle giggle, snort, giggle giggle, "Haaaahaaaahaahaaaaaaaa," Zhenya just couldn't stop laughing. Her legs buckled and she found herself on the floor. "Owwwwww," she said, through giggles, clutching at her stomach. She was going to have a 12 pack after all of this laughing. The tears dripped from her eyes and down her cheeks, but she just couldn't stop GIGGLING!
