| | Eeylops Shelves On either side of the rows of caged owls, adorning the walls are shelves. These shelves hold all of the things under the sun that you could ever what for your owl: food pellets, insect jars, and even little cuddly toys. These shelves look quite old, but there is no need to worry as they are held up with quite strong charms so nothing'll fall on your little heads.
Lining the first set of shelves are many jars of weird looking insects, ranging from stick insects to your plain ordinary green fly. The owls will eat any of these insects, so take your pick and buy as many as you want. Be careful though so you don't pull down all the jars with you, because all those insects on the floor won't make the shopkeeper very happy. Above the insect jars are an assortmert of boxes all holding different sized packets of owl pellets. These are fun-sized little bits of food that are perfect for an owl.
Dotted along either side of the shop, alongside the shelves are big boxes, contain an assortment of little cuddly toys and other little trinkets that will allow you to care for your owls every need. Stuck onto the top of these boxes is a sign that reads "All items in this box 1 galleon." |

"I climb trees all the time in the orchard," he retorted as he reeeeeaaaaaaaached for the cage and felt his fingers brush against the metal. "...AND we have a big cedar tree out back that I climb to the top of ALL the time." So she could go take her insults and stick them up her nose since she seemed to like sticking THAT in other people's business.
And yes, he was totally ignoring the wand comment...because mature like that.
"I'm gonna need you to catch this for me," he announced as his fingers pushed the cage closer towards the edge and blatantly ignoring any reluctance in her voice. He was lacking in stature sooooooo still not reaching it enough to just be able to grab it off the shelf. "On the count of three...one..two...THREE!"
Dooooooooooown went the cage towards the floor.
Emmeline frowned up at the boy's back. She couldn't see the faces he was making, of course, but she recognized the sort of mocking tone that her big brother and his friends liked to use with girls. She shoved the jar of nasty insects she was still holding onto a nearby shelf, and folded her arms across her chest. She looked down at the floor and noted boxes spilling open all over it, as well as plenty of broken glass from smashed jars. Okay, maybe it wasn't REALLY half the shop, but he'd done quite enough damage in her opinion. Remembering that most of those jars had contained nasty insects, she quickly looked back up at the boy as he started talking about climbing trees.
She wasn't listening about the trees, but she had noticed more clearly for the first time that, dumb enough to climb shelves for no reason or not, he might not be younger than her. Which meant he might go to Hogwarts! That was a disturbing thought, because she'd kind of just insulted him and the last thing she wanted was some stupid BOY saying bad things about her to other kids at school. She was slightly comforted by the fact that surely they would be in different Houses, but still... She'd try to be nicer.
So when he very RUDELY threw down the cage with no real warning, she didn't verbally complain when it hit the top of her head going down. Couldn't he at least look before he threw things?! Rubbing her head with one hand where she'd been hit, she took hold of the cage with the other hand and waited for him to come down. Hopefully he could manage that without freeing more bugs. "Got it!", she called up at the boy as she moved out of his range. She doubted he would look before he climbed down any more than he had when he'd thrown the cage, and she'd been standing fairly close in case he'd fallen. Trying not to step on anything that had fallen on the floor (and not to notice any loose bugs), she moved over along the shelves by a few feet and decided -- finally -- to think about her own owl. Not being half as picky as the boy, she selected a cage that was MUCH closer to the floor. Unfortunately, she was pretty small for her age so she still had to stand on her tiptoes to get at it. Setting the boy's cage down on the floor beside her, she streeetched up as far as she could go, but she still needed just a bit more height... |

Once he was finally finished and satisfied with the condition of his floor he heard a voice. He walked over to it while keeping his eyes wandering around the shop for anything he considered a threat to the peace of his shop.
He peeked down another aisle and saw the source of the Hello.
Looked lost of Nolan. "How may I help you kid"
Arms crossed and staring.

"Hello," she said, walking toward him. "I need some -" and just then she noticed the big mess the man had been cleaning up. She put the owl cage on the floor gently, then began rolling up her sleeves. "What a mess! Let me help you get this cleaned up."

You need some......
what. What did you need? Huh. He turned around. Did he leave some of his mess there? Guess he was forgetting in his old age. "Don't worry about it. I'll clean it up once we are done"
He did not want kids cleaning up at his shop. He could just get an assistant. But he did not want one. Since he did not trust anyone else to keep this shop at one hundred percent. "Just tell me what you need?"

"Just tell me what you need?" "O-kay," Aurora said hesitantly, backing away from the mess. "But really, I make much bigger messes than that at home when I experiment. Potions, and herbal remedies, and just, whatever strikes me. And I always have to clean it up myself."
Going back to her owl, Aurora held it up for the man to see. "I'm Aurora, and this is Persephone, I think. She won't tell me what her name is, so I have to guess until I get it right. Anyway, I want to buy her and I need owl food and treats, for whenever she can't go out hunting. And a nest, I think. Do owls live in nests? Or maybe just a small blanket to keep her warm? Do you sell owl coats? I don't think a scarf would do because her neck is the same size as the rest of her body and it would fall down. Unless they do wear scarves. Do they wear scarves? I want to be able to take good care of her. I'm Aurora," she told him finally. "Are you Mr. Eeylops?"
She looked up, waiting for answers from the shopkeeper.

She looked up, waiting for answers from the shopkeeper. Well good for her. Her parents must be proud of her for cleaning up. Still he did not want her cleaning up in his shop. Nolan thought it would look bad having a kid clean up a mess. Plus she was a customer. "Okay but you still dont have to clean up here"
He thought that was going to be it and he would bring her to the counter to ring up and get back to cleaning. But NOPE. HOLY MERLIN that was a ton of questions. Could she slow down. "I am not Mr. Eeylops and could you repeat that slowly this time"
All he got was that and her name was Aurora.

As she walked around looking at all the big eyed faces she couldn't even truly see anything that jumped out at her.
Except...
Yes, she knew that face. "Hello, getting an owl as well." What was his name again? She remembered seeing him when she had her baby niffler in her bag. She smiled at the man as she tried to remember his name It was something pretty interesting, but why couldn't she remember. Javi thought at first that the shopkeeper had come to help him - he HATED when they did that. Just leave him ALONE. UGH. But instead, he was greeted by...Zookeeper Lady! Whose name Javi could NOT remember for the life of him. After having to save her niffler, he wouldn't be forgetting her any time soon. But he definitely recognized her face. He grinned and chuckled, sighing heavily and then turning back to the owl display. "Yup. My parents owl has decided to retire so...I'm in the market for a new one," he told her. "I'm sorry...I'm completely blanking on your name..." he admitted. He certainly couldn't call her Zookeeper Lady to her face...

All he got was that and her name was Aurora. Aurora took a deep breath and blew it out slowly. That was what Grandmother had always told her to do when she was asking too many questions. Then she condensed her questions down to two; another tip, this time from Aunt Athena.
She addressed Mr. Not-Eeylops, "I need something to feed her, please. And something to keep her warm. Please," she remembered to add at the last second. Manners were good. We must always say please and thank you.

Those things he could do. "We have food for the Owl's and if you want a new cage we can do that also. Want me to walk you to where the food is?"
They could go over how to keep the owl warm once they got to the counter.

Be nice, be nice, be nice. That was obviously going to have to be Emmeline's mantra whenever she was around this boy. He made it VERY easy to forget all of her determination to make friends -- or at least not enemies, she wasn't sure she'd ever be friends with troll-boy -- by being nice, especially to people who didn't deserve it. That was what Nanny had taught her; stupid people can't help being stupid. But troll-boy was PUSHING it...
Rubbing the top of her head and wincing where an owl cage had been pushed onto it FOR THE SECOND TIME, Emmeline forced a smile onto her face. But that was okay, because troll-boy would have to know her really well to tell it was fake.
Then he made his superman pose and Emmeline smiled a little for real. He reminded her of her two-year-old cousin, and wasn't that the most fitting thing ever? "Do you want to go look at the owls?" Because she did, VERY much. Apart from wanting to escape troll-boy, some of her excitement at getting her very own owl was quickly returning. "What's your name, anyway?" That was important, because she felt that knowing his name would somehow help her avoid him at Hogwarts.

Unless she wanted to just follow him to the food aisle and back to the cages. It was up to her. But he felt this way was faster.

Okay....a lot.
"Would be stupid to have a cage with no owl to put in it," he nodded. Just, you know, being helpful and pointing out the obvious. He was going to get a BIG owl because he had a BIG cage. "James," he grinned. "James Summers." He started walking towards the owls before taking a bit of a stutter step and pivoting back towards her on the spot. "And you are?"

Smiling back at him, she replied simply, "Emmeline Sparkes." Then she gladly followed him towards the owls, the cage he'd "rescued" for her tucked under one arm. Maybe he wasn't always so bad after all...

She smiled towards him as she felt he recognized her and then looked at the owls. "Oh retiring, well that's nice. They'll be taking care of him still though I hope." She always felt bad when people just go rid of pets when they became older. Her pets were family so she was a bit weird about that. "Have you found one you like?" Maybe she could help if he wanted. She did enjoy helping others. "Oh it's Khara." She hadn't expected him to really remember her name. She usually knew people just called her niffler lady or zookeeper. "How is your little one?" She remembered he had said about bringing a child to the zoo at some point. Wondering if he actually had but she maybe just hadn't seen him. "I'm looking for a new owl myself. My passed away recently and it's just not the same without one." She enjoyed having them though she didn't really need them for much. Her parents being muggle she just had a phone to communicate with them.

Her parents being muggle she just had a phone to communicate with them. "Oh, of course," Javi added with a quick nod. The owl spent most of her day sleeping to be honest, but yeah, she'd have food and everything provided for her until...you know. The time came. He glanced back at the owls and sighed. Was there supposed to be a difference between the different species?? Was one particularly faster than another? He was totally helpless.
OH HEY but there was someone where who WASN'T helpless when it came to that stuff! Or so he hoped.
Javi turned to Khara and smiled. "So you're in the market for one too, eh? Well which one would you pick? Is there a difference? Or should I just...go with whichever one is the color I like?" he asked with a small chuckle before looking back at them again. That brown barn owl was pretty...but the white one was too.
She'd remembered he had a daughter? Well that was...nice. Right? He smiled again. "She's doing good. Just turned two a few weeks ago," he told her. Nothing really more to say than that, really. Soon she'd be talking, though, and he was sort of dreading that. If she took after her grandmother, she'd be talking NON-STOP. And if she took after her mother, well...she'd also be talking non-stop.
For once, he hoped she was like him.

For once, he hoped she was like him. That was good, she was very glad to hear that because if he wasn't she could always suggest some retirement owl homes that would be perfect for his bird. She always tried to help them when she could and it was so rewarding for the older owls to get to be pampered.
Khara couldn't help but chuckle though when he asked questions she heard often at the zoo. "Well there are different types of owls. You have your barn owl, screech owl, snowy owl, you have your owls that go long distances, you have your owls that are better for short, you have owls that can carry heavier things, and ones that would need help. What type of things do you use the owl for? How far does it travel?" Those were things she needed to know if he was going to find what he was looking for.
Herself though, she just needed an owl for close by. No need to find a long distance owl. She didn't know that many people and she knew no one that lived too far away. Her eyes glanced at the owls looking back at her. She saw a pretty brown barn owl. Maybe he would do for her? She just wasn't fully sure yet. "Aw two, I bet she is lovely." She loved children and always loved when they came to the zoo. Doing the educational tours was one of her favorite things. "Well if you introduce her to the owl, which ever one you get have her have some treats and show her how to open her hand correctly. That is the best way to introduce a new pet to a young child. They will become fast friends."

"Well I need something that can travel to...Russia," he said flatly. He assumed it was Russia at least, if Karina still lived there..."But for the most part, I guess it'll be hanging out around the house because I don't send a WHOLE lot of posts. But good to have on hand," he added. He stopped and blushed, realizing that he was rambling AND he had started talking about Karina again which was his LEAST favorite thing in the world. "I have to introduce them?" he asked, eyes widening slightly. There was so much that he had to do that he hadn't even thought of! "That's good to know, before I just let her try and pet a taloned, predatory bird," he grumbled with a small smile. He was joking but also sort of serious. "So um, what brings you here?" he asked. Did he ask that already? He felt flustered at his lack of knowledge about owls...and all animals in general...

Did he ask that already? He felt flustered at his lack of knowledge about owls...and all animals in general... Maybe she shouldn't have raddled off so much information,
but she was a creature person, so it was just something she was pretty good at. "Oh Russia" That was an interesting, but she didn't say anything else and just looked around. "Really most of these would be a good fit. They are all good birds I would say." She wasn't the shopkeeper of course, but she hadn't noticed any red flags jumping out at her.
She wondered if he was aware that when he blushed he was quite cute,
though thinking that she averted her eyes back to the owls so she wouldn't blush herself and give her thoughts away. "Any animal you bring home with kids in the house you want to introduce them to positive ways.
Children are going to be curious and they will find a way near the animal even if you try to keep them apart. It is best to include all family members in the process. It also helps teach children how to care for the creature and helps them start to learn responsibility even if it is how to not poke it in the eye with your finger." Laughing a bit as she realized she said these words lots of times at the zoo with the nifflers.
She gave him an odd look, because she had already said the reason,
but no matter he was busy and probably had just forgotten quickly.
"My owl passed away and I'm in need of a new one. I use him both for personal and work, so it is important I get a new one." She hated the thought of replacing a pet, but there was no way around it. She couldn't get niffler treats through muggle mail.

Much better than I thought she'd be, to be honest. She never grabs him or holds on to him too tight - in fact, I think HE is more rough with her, he likes to rub his face on her, and almost knocks her over he gets so in to it. She thinks it's hysterical," he chuckled. Whoops, there he went again. Being a proud dad and all. "Cats do that when they like something right? I read that in this book I bought when Pepper first decided he was going to live with us," he told her. Yup, the cat had wandered in decided it liked the living arrangement there, and he had been a house cat ever since. "Oh, sorry to hear that," he said with a frown. Replacing pets was never easy - although he really didn't have too much experience in it. His mum had gotten him a gold fish when he had been younger, and replaced it religiously every time it died until he was about eight and it was obvious he just did NOT care. "So, how is your niffler?" he asked with a soft smile. Hopefully not traumatized from nearly dying that one time.

He was so cute when he spoke of his daughter, "Oh Pepper is that your wife?" She couldn't remember if he had one of those or not. She had a memory of him saying something about his daughter's mother, but she didn't think that was his wife. Curiosity got the best of her and she had to ask. "It seems she is a natural with creatures and will do just fine with a new owl." It was a beautiful thing to think that a young child was going to grow to love creatures and take care of them even if they are just a pet. "Well thank you for your sympathy. It isn't ever easy to lose a loved one pet or human." She had been quite attached to her owl, so it was a hard process. "We can think of it as an opening for a new owl to get out of this stuffy shop and out of a cage. Owls need to spread their wings not be stuck in cages." She hated the shop process and feel. It wasn't natural for the owls and it hurt her heart to see. "The niffler is doing wonderful. He made a full recovery and is now with the rest of the nifflers in the habitat. He loves it there though I do miss his adventures at my apartment." It got quite lonely there when she didn't have a searching niffler going through her things.
