Divination Lesson One: Insect Invasion

It was a cool October morning and the grass was still wet, not found of her morning class slot, Professor Euka was making the best of it by doing some lessons that went better in the morning. The fall chill made her wear her teal cloak and bring a larger coffee.

As students began to come for the lesson they will find yoga mats scattered in a semi circle waiting for someone to sit on them and even maybe meditate waiting for the lesson to begin. The morning sun did look beautiful over the lake and students could just take in the peacefulness that these types of settings bring.

Lesson Progress:
Good morning
What did you hear
Find the bugs
Predict the insects
What do insects mean

Claudine picked her way over the wet grass, trying to avoid patches that looked particularly damp. It was just a way to ensure that her cloak's hem didn't get too damp. Early morning lessons were ones she thrived in even that lesson happened to be Divination. There was something peaceful about the newness of the day. Until people turned up and started ruining it. Ugh.

"Good morning, Professor,'' the Snakette said politely, her dark gaze already taking in the yoga mats. Opting for a maroon coloured mat at the back of the semi circle, she placed her bag on it then sat cross legged. She breathed in deeply.

Ah, yes.

So peaceful. She'd better enjoy it before the others showed up.

October was perhaps one of her favourite months. At the end of the month, it promised Halloween which meant dressing up and acting aaaaand LOADS of CANDY! But it was not the end of the month yet. She still had that to look forward too.

This morning Lisa still felt like she was asleep when she walked down the stairs from her common room. It was only when she walked outside that she woke up. WOAH! Who turned up the AC?!? It was CHILLY outside. Lisa shivered initially as she walked towards the agreed meeting location before deciding to slip on her mittens to keep warm. Ahh her fingers thanked her.

Hello Professor!” she greeted as she cast her eyes around the set up. Yoga mats? She didn’t know HOW to do yoga. “Will there be a beginner’s section for the yoga class, Professor?” If so, she’d need it. She didn’t even know how to start. She knew yoga involved deep breathing buuuuuut the poses…. That required balance.

Lisa then quietly made her way over to an apricot coloured mat near Claudine. She’d need to ask her friend for help, she figured. Claudine looked like she was in the middle of something so she whispered a quiet. “Hi!!

She didn’t want to disturb her.

Valentina disliked early morning lessons. It's not fair that she had to sleep late the previous night finishing homework and wake up early for a class! It was COLD, she was sleepy and there wasn't any time to have breakfast so hungry as well - what a wonderful start to the day. NOT.

But the blonde wasn't one to show her grumpiness so she managed a little smile, "Morning, professor." She opted for a yellow coloured mat and sat down, her stomach grumbling a little. Ugh. UGH. This was so embarrassing!!

Having Divination class just after breakfast was a little odd but not unheard of. Bella quickly picked her way over the wet grass, hoping that speed would keep the hem of her cloak from getting too wet. Coming into the 'classroom' she waved to Lisa and Claudine before she chose a yoga mat to sit down on. Looking up and over at their professor Bella greeted with a tired smile. "Good morning Professor Euka, will we be scrying today?"

The start of October meant that Evan was now, as a rule, adding his scarf to his uniform each day. His Professor's seemed to enjoy doing outdoor classes, even in the frigid air, so a pair of gloves were also tucked into his bag in case they'd be needed. He made his way down to the meeting spot, looking at his feet as he did so in order to avoid particularly deep mud holes. Upon arrival, he finally looked up, offering a quick, "Good morning, Professor Euka."

Pleasantries almost out of the way, he turned to see Claudine, Lisa and Val already all there and seated, and he gave them each a small smile and nod of the head. He opted to head towards a blue mat laid out on the ground, taking a seat and noticing it was next to Bella from the Mirror Maze. "Morning."

Should he take his notes out for this class?

Deezerz 09-11-2021 06:00 PM

The only thing Serena liked about today's lesson is that it was outside by the lake on a chilly day. That was it. She shot the yoga mats a mean look as if they'd had offended her grandmother. Were they going to meditate? Meditation made her moody.

You know what didn't make her moody? Sitting next to Lisa. So went and claimed the other spot beside her since Claudine was on the other. "Hi," she greeted both. There was also Evan--she met his this past summer-- and sent him a polite wave.

Oh right.

"Morning, Professor." All the greetings.

Quinn trudged up to the class, their feet falling heavily on the morning dew. They hadn't gotten much sleep last night—the due date for a long History of Magic essay they hadn't done was looming awfully close, and they didn't feel like stressing about it later... so they did the whole thing last night. They didn't even have to do it all last night, but they didn't have anything better to do, and once they started they didn't want to break the momentum and come back to it later, so they just pushed through and suddenly it was 5 AM and they realized they had class in the morning. Quinn ended up only getting two hours of sleep so that they could get ready and eat breakfast before class, but they were too tired to even properly get ready... they had their unbrushed hair in a bun so it wouldn't look as ratty, and they had heavy bags under their eyes. They ended up falling asleep at the Ravenclaw table right in their baked beans and had to go clean themself up in the bathroom.

All in all, not the funnest morning.

And they had to come outside for Divination today. It was chilly, so under their school robe Quinn wore a thick cardigan (that was for some reason softer and cozier than usual this morning) along with their purple and blue bracelets. They waved to the Professor with a yawn and walked over to a yoga mat, scanning the students as they did. There were a couple they knew personally, like Lisa and Claudine, but most they only knew to see. They at least knew Evan by name since he was in their House and all. Maybe they should get to know more people..?

Not this morning, though. They went over and kneeled on one of the yoga mats without many people around and relaxed with a sigh. Their eyelids opened and shut heavily until they finally closed, and Quinn's head rested on their chest. Just a little mid-morning nap.

siriusblackliveson 09-11-2021 11:47 PM

Ah Divination, one of her favorites. She would take any whacky time she had to in order to enjoy Divination. She'd also always stay up late to take Astronomy. That was just how much she loved both of the subjects. Walking closer to the lake she smiled wider, lake side classes were so enjoyable. She couldn't wait to see what they were going to be doing for the class.

Smiling at Professor Euka, she sat down on a yoga mat slightly ignoring everyone. Instead of greeting anyone she just waved at the people she was close to and sat beside what looked like Quinn because there was a very rambunctious younger student by Claudine and that was a hard no for Charlie when she just wanted to meditate.

MadMadamMalfoy 09-12-2021 04:52 AM

Heath made his way to divination, paying little mind to the wet grass. His cloak only just skimmed the ground, being a couple of inches too short for him, so he didn’t have to bother holding it up. One of the advantages of being tall, he supposed. As he approached, his thoughts turned to the last outdoor divination lesson he’d had, the one with snakes… and people being possessed by ghosts. Merlin, he hoped nothing that weird happened this time around! He did wonder what happened to Baby Yoda, the little snake he’d worked with that lesson, though.

“Hello, Professor Euka,” he greeted the woman politely. As his dark eyes scanned the area, he spotted a dark blue mat near Claudine, Lisa, and Serena. That was the place for him! He beelined in that direction, sitting on the mat with his legs crossed. “Hi,” he whispered, nodding to each girl in turn.

sweetpinkpixie 09-12-2021 09:17 AM

Guess who hadn't even started that History of Magic essay, Quinn? That's right. This Gryffindor who had just come shuffling through the door and found themselves a bit bummed that their best friend already had a very pretty older girl someone sitting beside them. But the good thing about this set up was that the OTHER side was still unoccupied and therefore he made a bee line for the yoga mat while offering the professor a spirited little wave.

Dropping his bag at the back of it, Atlas slipped off his shoes (because who wore shoes on yoga mats?!) and proceeded to lay down on their stomach. Mum was a yoga enthusiast but Atlas always saw it more as a nap time - something that was MUCH appreciated right now because it was too early to be awake. Atlas was not the best Divination student but he did apply himself a fair bit if for no other reason than it was fun to write home and tell dad about what he had learned and practiced and then receive return letters where the man was trying SO HARD to be encouraging but one could tell between the lines that he suffered so that his own son was showing an interest in the subject. All in good fun, of course.

"Hey," he greeted Quinn with a pat pat pat on their yoga mat. But then his arms were folding one over the other and his cheek soon lay atop the backs of his hands. "If anyone asks...I'm meditating in reverse Savasana."

Bazinga 09-13-2021 02:30 AM

Meda took a seat on her own mat and sat quietly as the students started to come. "Feel free to meditate until we get started. You can sit in lotus pose just as I am or stretch out your legs and get the blood moving around." She closed her eyes a moment to center her own self before focusing on each student that came towards the mats.

SPOILER!!: replies

"Good morning. You don't have to worry about any yoga courses today. We are mostly using them for chairs, but you will see their true purpose here shortly. For now just sit and relax taking the beauty of the day in."

Seeing the wave she gave one back.

Shutting her eyes again she took a few long breaths before opening them. "Good morning. I hope you all slept well and are ready for whatever the day has instore for us all." Glancing over at the lake she took in the sun getting just a bit higher. "The beauty around us is always such a wonderful sight." Taking another deep breath she pulled her legs closer, "I brought out the yoga mats so we could have clear minds this morning, but a nice place to sit as well. We will be working on the ground for part of the lesson and these will be the perfect place to kneel, lay, or sit while you work." They were comfy enough at least for this.

[b] "Nature is one of my favorite parts of Divination. Nature can tell you so many things if you can just sit still long enough to listen. If you have a clear mind and a quiet body nature will sound louder than you have ever heard it, from the grass moving to birds chirping. "What I'd like you to do is take a few deep breaths, close your eyes, and just listen for a moment. See what you can hear."

Closing her eyes again she took a few deep breaths to show an example of what she was meaning. Though her breath was steady and her eyes were shut her hand was next to her with her wand, giving a small wave little boxes that were hidden near a tree opened and many harmless insects started to crawl around and on the yoga mats.

Chelliephone 09-13-2021 02:48 AM

Yoga mats was a thoughtful idea for seating, especially given the ground was kind of damp this morning already. Sitting on the ground in them and ruining the robes certainly wouldn't have been ideal. Sure, something could have been used to clean them before the next class but.. he still preferred to just not have to. Evan was definitely feeling a twinge of gratitude for Professor Euka having thought of the mats.

But then class started and they were being instructed to close their eyes and... breath??? He certainly hoped this wasn't more dream study, not that that hadn't been kind of fun but... he didn't love his dreams and he'd rather not have to make such conscious efforts to remember them or have to write them down to keep them forever. He eyed the Professor skeptically for a moment before doing as instructed, taking a deep breath and putting his hands on his knees and letting his eyes flutter closed.

Well this wasn't so bad. Though who knew if he still would have felt the same had his eyes been opened for the insect invasion.

Lady of Light 09-13-2021 04:00 AM

Close their eyes and listen?? See what they can hear?

Valentina closed her eyes, wishing she could just lay back down and go to sleep. So tired. Instead, she tried to LISTEN to her surroundings but wasn't able to focus. All she could think about was sleep and food. She opened her eyes a second later... and O____O

The blonde stared at the insects that were crawling about. So many of them!! Val wanted to yell but they were supposed to be keeping their eyes closed, she definitely didn't want to get in trouble. Ugh. UGH. This was so gross!!

FearlessLeader19 09-13-2021 11:47 AM

The girl nodded in agreement with Euka. “It is. Mornings like this are the best.” Now seated, Claudine needed to read no tea leaves or do some scrying to figure that Lisa would soon be sitting next to her. Not that she minded the Ravenclaw’s presence. “Hi, Lisa,” The seventh year appreciated the whispering. Yes, she did. “You any good at Divination?” Catching the movement out of the corner of her eyes, she looked up to see Bella waving. She waved back. Evan’s smile was also returned. Claudine could not help but marvel at the number of friends she had made over the last three years. It was far more than she had anticipated. “Hi, Serena,’’ came the return greeting for her fellow Snakette. Quinn’s bracelets caught her eyes. Wow. Those are pretty,’’ she thought. She needed to remember to tell Quinn that at some point. And of course there was the boyfriend. If he hadn’t taken up a seat somewhere close to her, then something was wrong. “Hi, you.” And there went her quiet moments with the arrival of many students. They had been appreciated while they lasted.

Now that they began, and Euka mentioned the surroundings, the seventh year could not help but take another quick look around. Indeed it was all very pretty. It was mornings like these which helped her to recharge her batteries. Maybe it was the sereness of the present time but Claudine felt as though she definitely was ready to delve into this lesson.

She did as was instructed: a few deep breaths, closed eyes and the listening. What did she hear? The rustling of leaves… birds calling… ugh! What was that? Claudine’s eyes snapped open as she felt something crawl over her right knee. A ladybug! And why was there a beetle scuttling next to her yoga mat? Had it been so insect-y here a minute ago? She was now distracted as she watched the ladybug explore her knee.

Daydreamer11 09-13-2021 07:42 PM

Been here the whole time

Jordyn was not sorry that Divination class was being held outside. She loved the outdoors and the fresh air would help her be nice and awake during the morning class. Then, class began and the Hufflepuff was all in for enjoying nature. It was a relaxing way to start the class. In the back of her mind, she wondered what they would be learning today.

Sitting on the yoga mat, Jordyn did as she was told. She got comfortable, closed her eyes and began to take slow, deep, cleansing breaths. She let the breeze wash over her and allowed herself to take in her surroundings. She could hear the birds, the wind, her deep breaths. This was wonderful. Everything was so calm and peaceful and then……..Jordyn’s eyes flew open. She felt something crawling on her. Bugs! Now the fourth year was not afraid of insects, but she-did-not-like-them. Brushing the critter away, her calm, meditative state was broken.

MadAlice 09-13-2021 09:07 PM

Divination, like Flying, was one of Violet's worst subjects, and therefore they were her least favorites. Being scheduled for early in the morning did not help, either, though at least it was outdoors. Violet couldn't hold back a smile when she saw the professor with a large coffee--at last, a kindred spirit who understood that people weren't meant to be up and about early in the day without stimulants.

And yoga mats. What in the world were they doing this time? Though Violet didn't mind the meditating part. A year or so ago she would have scoffed at such a thing, but Miss Howard had actually shown her how to meditate after the disastrous Neo-Alliance year, and she had to admit, it did clear your mind. Which Violet desparately needed to do this year--she felt like she hadn't been able to think quite clearly since last year and the Healer Poppy fiasco.

Sitting cross-legged on the mat, Violet closed her eyes and tried to just "be" in the present as the sounds and smells of the world drifted in and out around her.

ArianaBlack 09-13-2021 09:31 PM

Kinsay didn't sleep well though. Even though she went to bed early (as per usual). It was hard to sleep well when she had All the Thoughts. This, coincidentally, was also making it very hard to follow instructions.

It was kind of funny though - see what you can hear.

Gave Kins all the GIGGLES, which she was trying very hard to contain. But it was hard. She wasn't doing the best job at keeping the giggles quiet. And when she felt something tickle its way up her leg? Even MORE giggles.

EHEHEHEheh. HEhehee. HEhehe.

HEeheheheHEHE - that tickles!

Hopefully Professor Euka wouldn't notice if she peeked through her lashes a little bit, just to see.

Kolyander 09-13-2021 11:39 PM

Been here all along <3

Dahlia wasn't the best nor was she the worst at Divintation. Any lesson that was held outside on the grounds and didn't require her to fall asleep and dream, she was there for. Sitting cross-legged on a yoga mat was not only easy but rather relaxing too.

All the professor was asking them to do was sit there, close their eyes and listen to the quietness around them? Done deal! Lia rested her hands on her lap, closing her eyes slowly. It took a couple of moments before her breathing become a nice and calm. In through her nose and out through her mouth. Repeat. Very simple. There was nothing to it.

Even an active mind like hers needed some calm soothing downtime once in awhile. Breath in. Breath out. Over and over again.

That's when she felt it. A strange little tickle-y feeling on her arm that made her want to giggle and wipe her hand at it. Peeking a blue eye open to see what was tickling her, she felt itty-bitty teensy legs. What was that?!

Her eyes snapped open and she was now staring at the cutest little bug crawling across her arm. Aawwww! Well hello, there! Lia beamed at it, trying to keep her breathing relaxed still while letting the bug do its own thing.

siriusblackliveson 09-14-2021 01:04 AM

Charlie smiled because she loved the meditating at the beginning of the class because it allowed her to set her mind right. Only, right as she closed her eyes someone was giggling. What in all good things was happening. She tried to take a deep breath and begin to focus again on her breathing but the giggles began again. Cracking one eye open she noticed that Kinsay was the one responsible for the uncontrollable giggles.

Taking a deep breath she tried to get her mind in line with what she needed to do. Deep breath in. Deep breath out. It couldn't possibly be that hard right? A light breeze kissed hr skin as she heard a bit of a giggle. Ugh this was not as easy as it should be. Deep breath to center herself deep breath out.

MadMadamMalfoy 09-14-2021 02:11 AM

From his place on the mat, Heath returned Professor Euka’s greeting with a polite nod. Claudine’s greeting also got a nod and a slight smile in reply, but there wasn’t time to say much else before the lesson began. He turned his attention to the professor. Yes, he had slept well… or well-ish. He’d lost track of time studying last night and got to bed about three hours later than he’d planned, but he’d live. Wait, they were supposed to be meditating? He didn’t know what that had to do with divination, but he’d give it a go. At least he’d try, but he’d probably fail miserably. HIs thoughts were too loud and chaotic to be quieted by meditation. Must be the Ravenclaw in him…

He tried to block out those thoughts as he emulated Professor Euka’s lotus pose. Taking several deep breaths, he closed his eyes and focused on the sounds around him,,, birds chirping, grass swaying, wind rustling through the trees. It was so peaceful! As he listened, he felt something tickling his hand. At first he thought he’d just imagined it, but the feeling became stronger until he had to stifle a giggle. Opening his eyes, he looked down and saw a stick insect crawling along his hand. Oh, hello there, he thought, not at all bothered by its presence. As he watched it move, he noticed other insects crawling around him. There was a katydid, a cricket, and a grasshopper. Where had they all come from?

Serena smiled at Heath. She didn't smile often, and if she did, she smiled internally. But Heath...as she noticed, was sort of pretty. Hmm.

Her attention was drawn towards the blonde woman in charge. Of course they were going to meditate and listen to see. Serena let out a deep, annoyed sigh, but did what was instructed. Crossing her legs, she straightened her back and placed her hands on her lap. Maybe she should have brought a pillow with her so she could meditate with her eyes closed and zzzzz.

Quinn hadn't noticed Atlas until he started tapping on their yoga mat, waking them out of their light slumber. Their eyes blinked open slowly. "Mmnh...? Reverse Sava...huh..?" They yawned a bit and rubbed their eyes, then looked down at their friend lying beside them. "Oh... morning, Atlas..." they smiled sleepily.

Oh, class was starting? Taking a few deep breaths... closing their eyes... this was all stuff they'd already been doing, so it wasn't a problem for Quinn. But Atlas's position seemed much comfier... they lied down on their stomach similarly and folded their arms under their head, facing Atlas. They closed their eyes.... took some deep breaths.... and suddenly they were napping again. Not much to hear when you're napping.

Too tired to repeat himself, it was not long before Atlas had passed out. It didn't help that the professor had a pretty soothing voice either as her gentle tones and airy disposition lulled him into an even deeper state of napping. Which was a huge bummer because as fan of the creepy crawlies, his own perception of 'harmless' was a bit more inclusive than the majority of his peers (he did have a pet tarantula, after all) he would have been going NUTS over all the insect companions that had come to join them.

In fact, some insect or another had decided to take a little rest on his nose (a meadow grasshopper, for those who were curious) ...which tickled a bit but it was not anything to stir the Gryffindor. This lion was sleeping tonig----er....this morning.

Thankfully he was not much of a snorer.

She watched as the students closed their eyes and listened. Noticing some swaying a bit and fully knowing they had most likely drifted off to sleep (Quinn, Atlas, Serena) she left them be assuming gravity would take over and they would fall and wake themselves up. Meda was curiously watching as her little guests for today made their way around the grounds. Some moving further from the group while others joined students on the yoga mats and even directly on them. A smile crossed her lips as she didn't hear any students scream or try to smash the harmless insects. Though she didn't hear screams she did hear giggles and this actually made Meda chuckle quietly to herself, "Kinsay, please try to calm your laughter. We need to try to focus."

As a few bees buzzed passed her ear she quietly started to speak. [b] "Very good class, very good. Now if you could open your eyes and look around you. We have some guest today. Many are very tiny so please watch where you place yourselves the rest of the lesson would be very much appreciated." Letting a caterpillar climb over her hand she lifted it to show the class. "They are actually here to help us with our lesson today. Nature is one of the best ways to learn Divination before we begin with our actual readings today, I'd like you to tell me what all you heard while we sat quietly and how you think that sound can help you become a better diviner."

Setting down the caterpillar back in the grass she wordlessly sent a few many ants to crawl up the legs of the three sleeping beauties.

So sorry this didn't get posted last night, hope you are all well! Thank you for coming and I promise no more delays.
