Default Welcome to the Daily Prophet!

Welcome To The Daily Prophet!

Since the early 1880's The Daily Prophet has been the primary source of news for British witches and wizards alike. With some of the greatest journalistic minds at their disposal, and strong ties to the British Ministry of Magic, the Prophet is always first to report prime news articles. The Daily Prophet is also known for their editorials and human interest pieces. Here is where you get subscribed for a daily dose of the Prophet, or maybe just a tour to see how this distinguished paper is run.

The links below will help you navigate through the DP.

Reception and Entrance
The entrance to the Prophet's Headquarters is sleek and professional without seeming presumptuous. The building's name overhead the desk assures you that, yes, you are in the right place. Separating the Conference room into its own place are glass walls. Past that and down the corridor are the offices, writer's working space and other rooms.

As you approach the front desk, you see your own reflection on the dark shiny surface of it. It's sleek form fits in well with the Head quarter's entrance. The warm smile of the Prophet's secretary though, washes away whatever sense of intimidation the place could give. If you need anything, don't hesitate to let the receptionist know. And if you find yourself having to wait, the chairs in the waiting area are comfortable and there's even a small little table. Hopefully, you won't be kept waiting too long as there's neither food nor nourishment at your disposal.

Conference Room
Trapped by glass walls, the conference room has more than enough light--even if it's of the neon possibly flashing kind. New tables are fitted into the expanded conference room to fit the equally expanded staff of the Daily Prophet. The chairs have received a rather moderate upgrade. Although cushioned, it isn't made for prolonged meetings so it is best to get out what you need to say and move on to working otherwise you'd be sporting a numb posterior very soon.

In the corner of the conference room, a water cooler and paper cones have been added for the eternally parched. It's also useful for those who did a bit of too much jabbering and find their throats temporarily dry.

Editor-in-Chief’s Office
Editor-in-Chief, Basil Skeeter, prefers to keep his office a little more private and has thus removed the opaque glass walls and traded them for solid cream colored ones. Basil is usually sitting behind his desk with paperwork stacked to his left and a single pineapple placed on the edge of his desk to the right. Why a pineapple? You can try to get an answer out of him if you wish, but don't expect one. Basil is very private about certain things.

On the shelf behind Basil's desk, among all the library of books and under a clock, is a unique looking fish tank that has pygmy plimpies swiming about in it like adorable aquatic hamsters. To the left of this, over in the corner by one of the large windows that looks out onto the streets of Diagon Alley, is a sink that Basil uses whenever he enters and exits his office - and whenever one of his staffers hands in an assignment. You won't find any pygmy plimpies in here, however. Instead you will find a colorful assortment of mundane fish purchased in Muggle London.

Basil keeps his door locked at all times, so you must knock if you wish an audience with him. Have no fear, he is usually of a good disposition as long as he has a nice steaming cup of coffee in his mug.

Writer and Editor Desks
The sleek, professional, and possibly slight presumptuous appearance of the Daily Prophet fades as you enter the spacious work area of the Editors and Writers of the Prophet. Not even the hustle and bustle of the staff can take away from the airiness of the large work area. The windows aren't real, though instead of being charmed to have pleasant views, they are charmed to show different locations of the wizarding world in real time, should anything news worthy happen unexpectedly.

Clusters of desks are scattered about the place in an organized fashion, grouped by sections of the prophet, and easily distinguished by the stacks of paper work atop the large desks. The editors have their own cluster of desks off near a large table that's used as extra workspace, or for when an impromptu gathering that doesn't require the conference room is needed.

Amongst a few framed articles, and moving pictures of photos from past assignments, is a large bulletin board for all important, and trivial, announcements. An eclectic clutter of old and new, scraps of paper, post it notes, and index cards push-pinned in, you can find anything from notices to the Prophet staff, birthdays, promotions, absences, story tips, employee of the month, and even silly notes and doodles. Of course there's coffee in the corner as well, though not as good as the stuff in the break room, it's there to keep you trucking through the long hours.

Lounge and Break Room
Although the coffee inside the metal tins on top of the counter isn't as premium blend as the stuff in the work room, it's still good enough to go for a second cup. Right next to the black metal tins of coffee are silver metal tins full of decent tea. It's quality isn't very good, as coffee, somehow, seems to be the preferred drink for the journalists of the Daily Prophet.

A small fridge is in place opposite of the counter and sink. Amongst the items inside are bottles of exploding lemonade, most likely belonging to the journalist always too eager to take on dangerous assignments. He never notices when one goes missing. There are also small lunch bags possibly from those who are low on cash or simply have a taste for homemade food. Occasionally, the small round table is graced with a box of donuts or pastries.

The pair of dingy yellow couches look worn and old, but they're actually a great deal more comfortable than the chair at your desk and good for gathering with fellows for gossip. Too much time shouldn't be spent gossiping in here though, there's work to be done after all.

Bathrooms
The bathrooms, down the hall and separated by sex, aren't too impressive. There's a pair of decent sized stalls, cramped together on one side of the room. Only one sink and matching mirror; a mirror that talks back. On its better days it would compliment your lack of dark circles but don't expect any superfluous praise from it. It usually prefers to critique outdated haircuts and hairstyles and ramble on about how unflattering your shirt with horizontal lines is.

Only Vexia knows which bathroom is a nicer than the other, and if the women really do have a slightly worn leather saddle bench. And for those that don't know who Vexia... well, you'll find out soon enough.

Also, keep in mind that you DO NOT have to be an official Daily Prophet staff member to write for the paper! Got something to say? Some sort of juicy news that everyone should be in the know about? Be sure check THIS out!

Since he was a young child, Kenrick has always been considered a quiet, private sort of person. Most of the time, he is a man of very few words, unless he needs to speak to someone to get information or a statement for an article. Those who see a lot of Kenrick might describe him as stern, or even downright grumpy; this has been the case for almost his entire life.

While at Hogwarts, Kenrick witnessed and was affected by a whole lot of crazy and dangerous occurrences, all of which contributed to his negative feelings directed towards the school. Kenrick's father did not allow him to transfer out of Hogwarts, and so instead he remained at the school, journaling about his experiences and occasionally writing articles about Hogwarts which he sent anonymously to various wizarding newspapers and magazines in the hopes of getting them published (with varying degrees of success). Kenrick continued to write, mostly in the journals that he never allowed anyone else to see, up until he graduated Hogwarts, at which point he took a place on a Journalism/Literatures studies at Wizarding University.

While at university, Kenrick wrote for several student publications and took a job as a freelance manuscript proofreader for a few publishing companies, and by the time he graduated WU had also made a name for himself as a freelance journalist for various wizarding publications. After a short while travelling with his then on-off girlfriend, Pandora (who would later become his fiancée, and shortly thereafter became his ex-fiancée), Kenrick returned to London to settle down and look for steady work. He had continued as a freelance writer since leaving university, but eventually applied to be a full-time writer at the Daily Prophet. He began working there in Summer 2081.

REPORTER ▸▸ JORGE DE LA GARZA

Patronus ▷▷ cheetah
Wand ▷▷ 11 inches, Blackthorn wood, Dragon heartstring

Looks like Erique Iglesias
▶▶ related history
Jorge is a pretty laid back person, not much bothers him. He doesn't have any temper and won't jump at someone to quickly. His confidence of himself and his work bounces off of him. His charming good looks can come in handy with his journalism needs, so he says. He is a very easy person to talk to and get to know.

Jorge is the second oldest in a family of four children. He had a very loving and happy childhood with his parents and two sisters until his very much younger brother came to be. As a student he met a girl the same age when he was sixteen and fell fast and hard in love for her. They dated through out school and once graduation was upon them decided to go to Uni together. He was torn between law enforcement and writing. On the day they were to leave for Uni Jorge walked in on Nita kissing another guy which ended the relationship an broke Jorge's heart. He found comfort in writing and followed that comfort into a career as a journalist which he found with his looks an creativity he was very good at. He liked to find facts about harder to write things, things that would push buttons and find truth, hence his cutting edge stories against popular places. He never had a serious relationship again. After an article that he wrote about one of the darkest wizards in Ronda brought trouble to the paper as well as himself he decided a new path was needed and moved to London.

Certain family members have remarked that Tori bears a striking resemblance in behavior to her cousin Anastasia. Interestingly enough, Victoria has only met Annie on a handful of occasions. That being said, Tori still aspires to be the next big Bunz, although the twenty year-old is still her own person. She will always have a piece of Drooble’s Best Blowing Gum either in her mouth or in her bag at all times; she hates chocolate; her favorite color is pink; her favorite lip gloss flavor is strawberry; and she is an exceptional reader and writer, but hates people knowing her smart side.

Loud, spoiled, adventurous, cocky, and snarky are the best words to describe her.

Born and raised in Beverly Hills, California, USA, Victoria – or Princess Tori as she prefers – was raised absolutely spoiled in a giant mansion with her twin brother Aleksander for the first twelve years of her life. After Tori's father married a “Super British” trophy wife on her thirteenth birthday, Tori elected to leave her mother's bohemian abode and to move in with him in the English countryside. She attended Hogwarts for one year, in which she made many friends and an older boyfriend, until her father decided she needed to be as far away from the boys as possible. He sent her off to France to attend Beauxbatons, a scheme Tori was convinced her stepmother came up with, and Tori eventually graduated from there as a prefect of her year.

She spent some time traveling and drifting around after graduation, and having had her heart broken by Paulie 'the ex' Foster, Tori had little desire to join the adult world. Eventually, her friends and her family pushed her to apply for a local job in Diagon Alley, and she wound up joining the staff of the world-class Daily Prophet. Tori thinks it's 'alright' and 'pays for her shoes' but she's actually more interested than she lets on. Just don't cross this ginger or spill your coffee on her OOTD (outfit of the day) and you'll get along with her just fine.

Scout graduated from Hogwarts and immediately went on to University where she studied journalism and political science. Editor of her university paper her senior year, Scout went on to work at a number of small publications as she built her portfolio. Her big break came when she went undercover to report on the smuggling of dragon parts out of Eastern Europe.

Over the course of her career, Scout has worked for a number of different papers and magazines, always with great success. She has moved back to London and taken the job at the Prophet to be closer to her grandchildren.
