Tired of the reactions he was getting about stunning the kitten, he sighed and looked at those who seemed shocked, disappointed, or otherwise upset. "If it were up to me to take care of a feline, the feline would be better off stunned, alright? If there were someone else about who could do something about it, then they would get to play with the nice kitty and I wouldn't have to stun it. Is that settled?" Just keep the little buggers away from me. Really, his wife's kneazle was bad enough.

VRSCIKA 05-19-2010 09:24 PM

Rin had watched everyone answer Chad and discuss things ,calmly sipping her coffee. She almost burst out laughing when Drago suggested that he would stun the cat. He seemed to avoid cats and kneazles and she had supposed that he didn't like them much. They weren't Rin's favorite creatures though she didn't avoid them. Really she found his answer pretty funny ,it would have been funny to her if he had suggested it about almost any creature though. If the cat or kneazle was being mean ,some liked to bite and scratch people they didn't know, she might stun it herself. Though more often then not she picked them up by the scruff of their neck if they weren't behaving. Poor Drago, they were all looking at him like he was mad. "Well if the creature was causing too much trouble or danger to the rescuer, gently stunning it could assist in being effective. Regardless of the creature in question. With Mico ,of course, it would be unnecessary." She said still calmly sipping her coffee. She added the part about Mico because he was very sweet....and she didn't want Chad moving his kitty away from her. She was waiting until it was time for her to speak, but he had his own point and she didn't think that he should be crucified for it. She returned to her coffee and patiently waited for the main point of the meeting to begin.

... Uh-huuhh.. yeahh... Sarah had no clue what the man was mouthing to her. She wasn't very good at reading lips but she assumed that everyone else around her was. This seemed to be the case at that particular moment. Smiling, she just nodded her head and pretended to know what he was saying. Whatever. It probably wasn't THAAATT important.

Looking down at the coat that was still held out at her, she figured that it'd be rude of her to refuse. Riiigghht? Plus. She was still a leeeettle bit chilly. Smiling, Sarah took it and slipped it on. Ooooohhhhh... so warm. THAT definitely did the trick. She mouthed a thanks to the man and looked back over at Chad as he continued with the introduction of the conference.

... Kitty.

When was the kitty there? So confused. How did she not know there was a kitty there right next to her boss? And such a cuuuuuteee one too!

And then the unthinkable. This - this - this man. Wha-what was he SAYING? Was he thinking clearly? Was he hit in the head? Did he take the wrong pills this morning? He would stun a cuuuuuttteee kitty like... whatshisface? M-Mico? He would stun Mico? Look at that face! The cutest kitty face on the planet.

Ah. Someone sensible. Use the Homorphous Charm. And there went Carracio. Such an aggressive man towards such a delicate and CUUUTE creatures as Mico. But he was cautious. Sarah had to give him that. And cautious was GOOD.

Sarah continued to observe the employees and their answers, sipping her coffee cheerfully. Well this was fun.

Nikos gazed into his empty coffee mug, swirling the last drop around in the cup as his coworkers spoke. "There are other ways to go about controling a creature." He mused. "You can always immobilize or conjure ropes for said creature. Or a cage. I prefer to look at my options before going straight to stunning if it's possible." He gave an easy shrug and a smile to match as he reach over to Misty's thermos and poured himself some coffee.

Zellanna 05-20-2010 01:08 AM

"A light stun has harmed no one. It's just enough to have them unconscious. Really, how much are you going to panic or overwhelm an animal by binding it or immobilizing it?" He mentally thanked Rin for not thinking he'd lost it. "Think of an animal like a young child. Now, I wouldn't want to go stunning a young child, of course, unless for whatever reason it is completely necessary. However, if you were to simply immobilize it, without it knowing what is going on, it will panic. They don't know what is happening, and suddenly they can't move. You terrify them. Same with tying one up. How would you like someone to suddenly cage you or throw a rope around you? None of us like being stunned, of course, but an animal will run on fear and instinct. And it would be better to wake gradually to a situation, such as being in a room with food and water, than it would to be carried around immobilized or struggling against conjured ropes. If you'd treated a young child like that, they would scream and cry, even if just mentally. The same goes for your typical instinct-based animal."

PatInTheHat 05-20-2010 01:55 AM

"Never would I subdue any creature, with or without magic, without first carefully assessing the situation. To do so would only, as you stated, terrify the creature and could bring harm to those in the surrounding area. And I don't like thinking of creatures as children... " Various personal reasons, he wouldn't go into them now. Nikos took a sip of his coffee. "I never said that a light stun would would harm anyone, just stating that if simply tying the creatures or caging them were an option, that's the path I would take. Like if there was more than one creature to subdue."

"For example, a while back Misty and I," He motioned to the woman sitting beside him. "Had to a remove a room full of doxies from the Education Department. Instead of simply stunnng the pesty creatures, we first assesed the situation, sprayed them with doxycide, caged them and brought them back to the holding room. Simply stunning the creatures wouldn't have worked." Not to mention it would've been hell carrying them back to the fourth floor without a cage. "Your choice of action depends on the creature at hand."

VRSCIKA 05-20-2010 02:01 AM

She sipped her coffee and continued to listen as the "The method used to subdue a creature varies greatly upon circumstances. Thank you Mr. Carracio ,excellent point. Also immobilization and caging is ineffective on some creatures and unless you are dealing with livestock , tying a creature is often ineffective and as well as traumatic and leaves a chance for them to injure themselves. As long as you are careful stunning is an effective method for most species. Yes you are absolutely correct Mr.... Fakiris?" She hoped that she had said that correctly. "There are those like doxies that it is ineffective against and for most creatures of that variety caging is usually the best method." They pretty much summed up what she would have said more or less ,she wasn't the only who had worked in the field. "Even domestic creatures can pose a threat if you aren't careful. Also it is very painful to have a feline attached to your flesh and you don't always have time to ponder options when your mother-in-law's crazed kneazle is aiming for your jugular...." Okay so not too many people have had that problem ,but it happens and stunning works well with no real side effects. Hmm, they may think she was strange after this but oh well. Well, at least she was warmed up when it was time for further discussion. She finished her coffee off and refilled her own then looked to Sarah and refilled the cup she had given her ,with a pleasant smile.

Zellanna 05-20-2010 02:44 AM

"Or your wife's..." he muttered. He wanted coffee. Now.

Davvy_Wavvy 05-20-2010 02:45 AM

Davina was so thrilled that the meeting was finally underway. She scribbled points that she felt were necessary or applicable down on her clipboard and continued to listen. There was nothing better than a rousing round of debate. Ah yes...Creatures division. She grinned but was careful to put her mug to her lips to hide her smile. She couldn't have her co workers thinking that she was crazy now, could she?

Personally she liked animals with her and never once had she had a run in that was in the least bit dramatic with any creature, even though she really hadn't been in the field that much. Still, creatures and her got along fine, so she still preferred coaxing the thing out to see if it is friendly or not before stunning or anything else.
"Good point there Niko," she commented.

PatInTheHat 05-20-2010 03:04 AM

Nikos listened to the woman speak as he sipped his coffee, it was getting warm so he tried to savor every sip there was. He nodded to the woman when she said his name to let her know that yes, she had it correct. Grinning at Her and Carracio's comment about the kneazles, apparently they didn't have much luck with the creatures. Nikos stopped sipping his coffee long enough to smile warmly at the woman who complemented him.

momentai 05-20-2010 04:21 AM

Chad was SOOOOOOOOOOOO close to bouncing in excitement. They were TALKING! It was almost like Christmas had come early. Perhaps he should tell Reagan not to get him anything this year...

"Excellent points. All excellent!" He let Mico go again, directing him in a direction that was away from Drago. Okay, so he did a little BOUNCE. He was happy, okay??

"Sitting up here with me today is Violet Silvermoon of the Beasts division, Sarah Lee of the Beings division, and Rinatta Cross of the Spirits division." He pointed to each one. "Today, they will each be speaking of a rather simple creature or thing that people in that division will or may encounter while out on the job."

"Who would like to start...?" He looked between the three of them.

Paint.the.Limelight 05-20-2010 11:33 PM

Violet smiled as the conversation heated up. this was the point of getting everyone together, getting them to debate like this. Animatedly but not violently. Violet, who loved cats, held out her hand to Mico as the kitten ambled down the table. She petted his fuzzy head. So cute.

Violet looked up, smiled, and waved as Chad said her name. Should she go first? She looked at the other two women, then decided as she hadn't been contributing much, she should volunteer.

"That would be moi, I think." She sat up a little straighter. "Uh...hi, guys. I'm Violet. A lot of you know me, but for those of you who do not, I am the head of the Beast Division. Now, as Chad told you earlier, the main focus of today's meeting is for you to learn a bit more about magical creatures by listening to the other heads and I drone on about them for a bit, and then once you're all bored, we go out into the field to test out what you've learned." She took a small pause, stroking Mico's soft fur and gathering her breath.

"Okay. Now, we'll start small. What do you guys know about puffskeins?" She had one to show them, but she figured that she would wait until Mico got bored of her and decided to move on before taking it out. A brutal murder on the point of interest by the Department Head's cat might ruin the meeting a little.

Davvy_Wavvy 05-21-2010 05:11 AM

Well now finally the meeting was really under way. Rhea recognized this lady, being in the Liaison division she worked with a lot of creatures, not just were-wolfs and house-elves. This lady was barking up the right tree.

She plaved the clip board down on the table and interlocked her fingers before speaking.
"Puffskeins are perhaps the most docile of wizarding creatures. They are spherical and almost all of them are covered in soft mustard coloured fur.I dare-say almost all house-holds have them." It was true, Puffskeins were incredibly common and most girls wanted to have them, because they were so cute.
"Most wizards have them because they can feed them just about anything. Apparently they find nose buggers are real treats too, so snotty nose kids be warned."
She relaxed back into her chair. had she missed anything? What else was there to know about Puffskeins?

Violet nodded at Rhea. "Yes, very good. I don't know if they are the most docile, but everything else was spot on." She paused.

"Does anyone else have something to add?"

momentai 05-23-2010 05:26 AM

Chad raised an eyebrow. Had everyone suddenly gone shy?

Roselyn 05-23-2010 06:04 AM

Puffiekeins? Well, since the other person pretty much described the little creature, Lilah decided to put her own thoughts in on it. After all, the woman forgot just one tiny detail...

"They are soooooo cute!" Lilah just couldn't hold it in. She thought ALL animals were cute! "The way they hum when they're happy... it's just adorable! And their long tongues...and they're just so cuddly!"

It was just too much. Cute little furry animals were her favorite after all. Apart from dragons that is. But cute and tiny could fit in her house. Like the little kitten here! Mico was just...so adorable.

VRSCIKA 05-23-2010 06:11 AM

Rin gave Drago a knowing nod when he mentioned 'or your wife's'. Alright, so she wasn't the only one with such an experience. Though she normally had no trouble with the creatures, that particular one seemed to have an issue.

She smiled as she watched Davina...having the feeling that her friend was smiling about the debate going on. She agreed with Mr. Fakiris..but then...really the only other person who seemed to believe in the 'If you aren't sure about it stun it' theory was Mr. Carracio. Though Rin loved creatures of all shapes and sizes, she believed in exercising caution after much experience. She smiled at Nikos when he nodded to confirm that she had it right.

When Chad asked who would like to go first Mrs. Silvermoon volunteered. She started her part of the meeting and began with Puffskeins, Rin happened to like the little fluffballs. They could eat nearly anything as part of a healthy diet, were one of the most docile creatures you could get, and were all in all extremely low maintenance. She listened to Davina state what she knew about the little fluffys and after she was done Violet asked if anyone else had anything to add. Rin waited patiently but no one else was speaking. Chad raised his eyebrow and she herself had wondered why the room had gone dead. Okay so you can be accused of being stun-happy amongst this group, just not discuss Puffskiens? Well if no one else was going to speak she would. " I do." She gave Violet a polite nod and began to speak." Puffskiens also make ideal pets for the young as they are quite hardy and can handle being tossed around a bit and be no worse for wear. They can consume nearly anything as part of a healthy diet and if one forgets to feed them, they will feed themselves." Of course she had never and never would forget to feed a pet in her life ,there was a reason she was in this department." There is also a miniature variety of Puffskein called a Pygmy Puff. Both breeds make a very pleasant and calming hum when they are content and happy. I have found that the sound is very helpful in getting children and even adults to calm down and can aid in helping one to sleep if they cuddle a content Puffskien. Their 'talking voices' are of a high-pitched nature. ....Also they are known for having a bad habit of drinking from toilets......" Okay so maybe she didn't need to add the last part ,but it was a fact.

Daffy.Potter 05-23-2010 03:46 PM

Hehe.

Sarah couldn't help but giggle slightly at a young woman's addition. She was right. Puffskeins were indeed cute and cuddly. She would hate to think of placing the woman in a situation against a Puffskein that had be enchanted of some sort. She wouldn't be able to stun it at all. But Puffskeins were so cuuuuuuuuuuuuutttteee.. Who could stun them? Maybe Carracio. Ahem.

Eeeesssshh.. These people knew a looootttt. There was simply nothing left for poor Sarah to add! ... they drank from toilets? Huhhh..

"Similar to what many of you have stated, Puffskeins aren't picky eaters. Leftover spiders, bugs, toilet water and children boogeys.." she said, nodding her head over at Rin and Davina with a small smile. "Though that might just be for the fun of it. These creatures have fur of a custard color and can be found just about anywhere. No need to go to some deserted island or another country, they're found all over the world. Simply quite harmless and playful creatures and popular with wizarding families and children."

Violet exchanged glances with Chad. She was pretty sure they had the same thought. Everyone had been so talkative beofre, but now...almost nothing. Odd. Also, Violet was sure that some of the employees still were absent.

Violet returned the nod and gave Rin a small smile. Rin seemed to have a lot of knowledge about the household aspect of the puffskeins. "Yes, that's right, Rin. Did everybody hear what Rin said?" asked Violet. "This is important if you ever want to keep one for a pet. It's best to feed, them, but they will eat almost anything and can usually feed themselves if you forget." Well, it was good that more people were chiming in...thought Violet wasn't sure Division Heads really counted.

"Quite true. Though I daresay they will eat adult bogies as well," said Violet. "All right, you're all correct. Very good. Now, I'm going to wait a moment if anyone else would like to add anything that's been forgotten?" There wasn't a whole lot to say on the matter, but even if someone wanted to repeat what someone else had previously said, just to get involved in the meeting, that would be fine...

Davvy_Wavvy 05-25-2010 08:12 PM

Davina shifted in her seat and looked from employee to employee. Ok so they established what puffskeins were. What was next? She looked at her watch again. This meeting was certainly going nowhere fast. She cleared her throat and proceeded to speak.
"Well it seems we're all well informed on puffskeins, I trust this meeting is about more than those creatures, despite their unquestionable cuteness.." Her tone was conversational rather than rude. She would never be rude to anyone but they most certainly needed to move on.

momentai 05-25-2010 08:37 PM

The other eyebrow went up. Hmm, he was starting to wonder about how much a reform this department was going to need.

"I'm sorry, but are you the one running this meeting," Chad asked, pulling his kitten back towards him. "No, I think not. Please, Miss Silvermoon. DO continue about the puffskeins. Do you have one to show? Perhaps any information on how to efficiently capture one on the chance they escape?"

Davvy_Wavvy 05-25-2010 10:04 PM

Davina sat back in her chair. NO she was not the one running the meeting that seemed to be dragging on for forever. She did not reply to her boss though instead she sat back and listened.

Sigh

Paint.the.Limelight 05-25-2010 10:25 PM

Violet's eyebrows lifted. Wow. Someone was impatient, wasn't she? It was important to make sure everyone was up to speed before plunging into a subject.

"Of course, Chad," she said. "I have a puffskein here with me, but I was a little worried about Mico playing with it and shaking it around..." She stood up. "Just a moment." Violet walked to the back of the room, where a large cage held two balls of fluff that bounced around excitedly at her approach. Violet knelt down to the floor and opened the latch and stuck her hand into the cage. The puffskeins climbed onto her hand and started bouncing up her arm. Violet swiftly stood up and closed the cage door with her foot. Upon return to the table, Violet cupped her hands around the puffskeins.

"All right, everyone. What we have here is obviously two puffskeins. This yellow one is a regular puffskein, and this purple one is a Pygmy Puff, more often used as a pet. There are two just so that it is easier to see. As you can all see for yourselves, they really are very friendly." Violet petted one with a finger. It bounced up and down happily and a long pink tongue emerged from the fluff, winding itself around Violet's finger. She gently disengaged herself from the puffskein.

"Yes, I am going to teach some basics about how to care for and capture a puffskein. Are there any questions so far?"

Zellanna 05-25-2010 10:37 PM

Saying anything about stunning the puffskeins would probably only get him in trouble and ostracize him, so he kept silent. Though he would have only been joking about it this time. He had nothing against puffskeins... Well, aside from, "They're like hyper pastel tribbles without the breeding issues..." Some part of him hoped no one questioned what a tribble was. Some part of him hoped no one knew what a tribble was. And part of him would have been vaguely impressed if they knew what one was. But it was an obvious connection with muggles that he could do without. And how was it that he managed to keep on having theses things come out of his mouth? He really should have learned to keep it shut by now.

PatInTheHat 05-25-2010 11:10 PM

Again, no questions came to the young Greek man's mind. Unlike his female coworker, he was enjoying himself at this seminar. Even if the creatures were mundane ones, it was nice to get together with everyone in the department. Leaning forward in his chair, he took a closer look at the creatures. Though he wasn't one for pygmy puffs, he did have a puffskein when he was a boy. Turning his head slightly to face Carracio, his expression confused. "What's a...tribble?" He had never heard of such a creature, which was strange because he knew just about every magical creature there was. So why was this one not poping up in his mind.
