Etta anxiously tapped her foot and fiddled with her cardigan as more students filled the room. Closely observing classmates walking in, a familiar face lit up her large doe eyes! It was her dorm mate Sloane. Etta released a sigh of pure relief when Sloane took a spot next to her and returned her dorm mate’s nod.

THANK MERLIN.

Good. Good. Good!

The foot tapping stopped but the fiddling continued. Her anxiety was quite prevalent but being around someone she deems safe eased her mind. Then another dorm mate, Florence, took a seat next to them at their table and the youngling felt even more relieved. Etta gave her a nod as well. This was turning out to be a good day, so far.

Breathe. Breathe. Breathe.

Etta took a deep breath just as her professor advised her. ”Yes.” Etta sheepishly smiled at Professor Liu and nodded in understanding.

Go. Go. Go.

Henrietta bravely pushed herself off her seat and nervously made her way to desserts. When she got there she took another deep breath and packed a few cookies in a napkin to bring to her table, for her and her dorm mates to enjoy as well. She also tucked a Latin book under her arm for today’s lesson.

Good job, Etta.

Her chest tightened, not from anxiety (well slightly) but from how proud she was feeling about herself at this moment. Thank you, Professor Liu.

Henrietta helped herself to a cookie whilst she listened to Professor Liu’s lesson and instructions. Now, Latin was not something the youngling was too familiar with. However, she did understand what the language meant in regards to how spells and charms are created.

Opening the book she took a paper and pencil to first plan out the theme of the root she was aiming for, then write down the charm and spells that go with it. Followed by creating a few of her own. As she read through a few Latin root words, phonetically they sounded true to the spell or charm derived from them and their abilities. Etta used her love for nature as her theme and wrote down the word: Herb.

Pretty self explanatory, she then wrote down: Herbivicus. Why? Well this was her foster grandmother’s charm of choice as it made the plants in her garden grow faster. Now she had her theme and her root with a charm. But she wanted to go a step further and create a charm of her own. Studying the book closely she had a clear vision of what the charm was intended to do: heal, so she looked up the root for cure: cūra. Etta tapped her chin:

Etta wrote down the name: herbicurio. It might sound silly but it was hers and her charm would heal the body.

Her thoughts took a curious turn and she found the Latin word for poison: vena...mentally creating the name: herbivenum. It would be the opposite of herbicurio. Obviously. Not wanting to draw any sort of attention to herself (or an investigation), Etta kept that charm locked in the chamber of her mind.

A small smirk formed on her lips.

Now for the tree. Etta began sketching a cherry blossom tree. Her favorite (besides bonsai trees). The word herb beautifully intertwined in the roots of the tree and the branches filled with the blossoms, respectively intertwined with Herbivicus and Herbicurio. Brainstorming continued as she drew more branches and blossoms.

With uneven footfalls, Roulan moved about the room after her instructions had been given - carefully observing to see if students were confused or needed additional direction or anything of the like. Young Mr. Atreyu-Rehman seemed like he quickly had a grasp on the instructions, and he was already leading the discussion of the group around him. A sight which caused the corners of her mouth to turn up the slightest bit more in a smile. Ms. Paton did seem to have some confusion, but her peers around her seemed to have it well under hand and like they would also do an excellent job explaining to her as well - so she chose to just observe the group and only step in if it seemed she was actually needed. Mr. Gellar and Ms. Vance were hard at work and joining into the discussion as well. As she had paused by their table, it did occur to her she had not answered either of the young girl’s questions in response to her own - so she did so now, even if they had perhaps forgotten. “The corner pieces for me. I like a little bit of crunch to my sweets.” She replied regarding brownies, before also turning her polite smile to Ms. Vance. “And I’m settling wonderfully, thank you. I’m glad you are as well - and that you are making such excellent friends in the process!” The entire table got a grin from her at that, before she moved on again.

Noticing young Ms. Ackerly, Roulan gave a friendly nod of her head in greeting as she approached the girl, noticing the perplexed look on her face. Roulan wasn’t sure if it was her instructions had been what caused some confusion for some of the students, or perhaps she just had not heard it in it’s entirety. Either way - she was happy to explain again if the girl needed. “Good day, Ms. Ackerly! I hope you’re having a pleasant one? If you need any help, just let me know. Or if you’d like to join your other classmates, it seems others are slowly grouping up to get share in the process together. Ms. Marchand seems well underway and currently alone? Perhaps she’d like a partner?” Although Aurora was of course welcome to work on her own - but she struck Roulan as the social sort of student. And speaking of Ms. Marchand, her feet took her towards the Hufflepuff to peer curiously over her shoulder as she could see she’d already been hard at work. The tree outline was not what Rue had expected, but she loved the creativity behind it. “I like the direction you’re taking, Ms. Marchand! I think your sweet tree will be just what the room needs.” And then noticing she was looking through the book for her words, the woman idled away again - quiet so as not to disturb her concentration more than she already had.

Young Mr. Sohlberg’s question had drawn a soft chuckle from the Professor, having not even considered the kids might not be up to date on very out of date fashion. “As nice as it would be to have a bovine friend join us, I do not have a cow present. A moomoo is a style of dress. It’s free flowing and quite comfortable, though perhaps not the height of fashion.” But comfort won out for her every day of the week. She smiled at the boy as he then set to work, and she paused to observe quietly for just a moment before moving on once more.

Mr. Fuller-Thompson was the next to grab her attention, with what she felt was high praise from a student. Anything that made them excited for even subtle learning was what she hoped to see in them. She grinned at the young man, giving a nod of gratitude. “Thank you. I’m glad you think so! I look forward to seeing what you and Ms. Rhodes create.” She replied, her smile turning to the fourth year that had joined him at the table.

Hearing her name called, Roulan turned to find Ms. Knott looking over at her. Changing the direction of her feet, she made her way to the table where the young girl sat with her dorm mates. At the questions, she couldn’t help the pleased smile that crept on her face. She loved when students questioned things - as questions were the true fuel of knowledge. “Excellent observation, Ms. Knott! You are correct, Alohomora is one of those spells that does not quite follow the rules of dissection like some of the others your classmates are working on. While Latin is genuinely used as the basis for spells, there are some that you will find that are rooted in other languages as well. For example, you are correct Aloha means hello or goodbye. But that particular phrase is actually derived from Polynesian roots. If you look at Alohomora all together, researchers have found what they believe to be a tie to a West African dialect - which translated would mean ‘friendly to thieves’.” Which when you looked at that definition, the use of the spell certainly made a lot more sense. “Your question is an excellent one though - because looking at the words and different ways things can be defined, it gives you some room to play around with the idea of the spell. So while that is an established spell that we know unlocks things, if you were going to make it do something similar to the meanings you found and play around with the languages some - what would you want it to do instead?” It was not a question in which she expected an answer, she just wanted to get Sloane further thinking - hopefully have some more fun with it! While she was stopped at their table as well, Rue gave a cursory glance over at Ms. Han's paper and the work she was doing. A quick pleased nod, though she wasn’t sure if the girl would see it or not, at her progress and then the Professor was turning to survey the room once again.

Though she could easily be called back if Sloane had any follow ups.

Brown eyes wandered over towards the seat where the two sixth year Ravenclaws had taken residence, though she was surprised to see Ms. Rasting not there. Another scan and she noticed the girl was already preparing a portion of the wall to begin painting on. No matter, that would be perfect and gave her an easy segue to get everyone else thinking about beginning their other preparations. “For anyone already finishing up your sketches, you’re welcome to move to the wall and claim an area and begin prepping it for painting! There are some buckets with warm water and towels in them if you’d like to give a quick wipe down on where you’ll be working.” Not entirely necessary, but it did make the finished peace look cleaner.

Desiree was so engrossed in her work that she completely blocked out everything going on around her. At the mention of her name, she jumped slightly and looked up from her paper. What? Oh, someone needed a partner. Well, she would be happy to assist! Spotting Aurora by herself, she smiled and motioned the younger girl over. “Sure, you can work with me if you like,” she said. “I’m going to do a candy tree, like the one in Wreck-it Ralph.” She seemed to recall that the other girl, like herself, had an affinity for Disney. “What do you think?” she asked, showing the sketch she had so far.

Speaking of which, she was mildly surprised by the praise her tree got. Her cheeks flushed pink as she beamed. “Thank you, Professor!”

But there wasn’t time to dwell on her success. She still had to find a Latin root word for her tree, which one would think would be easy for her. Not only was she the daughter of a former charms professor, but she spoke French- a language which had evolved from Latin! Why was this harder than she thought? Skimming through the pages, she found something that looked promising. “Here’s a good one! “Re-” - it means “back” or “again”,” she mused out loud. “There’s lots to do with that one.” She was already thinking of spells and magical objects. Rennervate, Reparifors, and Remembrall, for example.

Bryony smiled warmly up at Professor Lui when she walked by their table. The corner pieces were good but the middle brownie pieces would always be the very best, that was her opinion anyway. She had lots of opinions about many things. Including Charms. Which meant she really had to get her head in the game and help out her group right now.

So her attention shifted onto the three others at her table. But there was so much talking going on. Most of which made sense and a little that didn't. Bry choose to cling onto the bits and pieces that we're making sense to her and mold all of it into something bigger inside of her head. Between Aryan, Roman and Emmie each giving their own explanation this activity was becoming clearer and clearer in her head. Sort of.

"You all have some great idea. I think if we all work together that could be really fun and we would make a great team. I also really like the idea of adding creatures onto our tree somewhere since we'll be using Expecto Patronus." They could use their favorite creatures or what they think their patronus might be someday!

"And ummm.. umm.. there's also the fire extinguishing charm. It pretty much does exactly what it's meant to do and it puts out fires."

What a day to come in late! Hope had been hoping to just slip into the activity and maybe get a snack, but when she reached the Charms Pavilion, she found that they were already at the Latin books and people had already formed up in groups.

Hope was not in the mood to struggle with Latin today, but she was there, so she figured she'd better try to do something. The only unattached people she saw were Mitsuki and Mercer, who tended to form a closed circuit when together, and some seemingly endless group of first year Slytherins that had entered Hogwarts this year. Drat, that meant she'd have to come up with something on her own, then. And, despite the emphasis on a classical education that prevailed in her village at home, Latin was not one of Hope's strong points.

After a good deal of thought (and exasperation), Hope came up with Re-, which meant 'again' (or something like that). So on her hastily sketched-out tree, she'd written Re at the root, and then added Reparo, Rennervate, and Repello Inimicum and Repello Muggletum among the branches, the last two together on a forked branch. Okay, so far, so good.

Taking the sketch, she joined the other students over in the painting area, slipping into an empty spot between two groups. And then she stopped. She knew what these spells meant, but was at a loss as to what to paint or draw that would tie them all together. Wishing she had gone to the table of treats first, she took a step back and sighed, gazing at the blank canvas. She looked at the groups nearby--candy, plants...they all had really good ideas. Hope felt rather outclassed, as she often did. She still could not believe the Sorting Hat had put her in Ravenclaw, she was neither brainy nor creative as far as she could tell.

Had Aurora actually been on this planet, she might have noticed the ~look~ that Mitsuki had given her was not entirely friendly. Instead all she saw was that it was sent in her direction and so with the enthusiasm of an excited puppy she waved her hand across the classroom at her.

It was nothing to do with the instructions Professor, it was merely due to Aurora’s late arrival and lack of listening skills for she had been entirely distracted by the snack table in the corner full of sweets. It wasn’t until Professor Liu was directly speaking to her that she drew her attention away from the food and up at the smiling lady. “OH! Sorry Professor I was thinking about..” The fact that she had just arrived late to the activity because she had missed breakfast and had instead raided the kitchen and yet she didn't need to because there was a whole assortment of things to munch on. “..things” she beamed. On the suggestion of working with Desiree she glanced over at the older Hufflepuff who thankfully agreed to the partner work.

Over she bounced, plopping herself in the seat next to Desiree and studied the plan that she had already concocted. “Oooooooh! I love that idea. Maybe we can use sweet wrappers to decorate?” No she wasn’t aware that the artwork was probably the least important part of the task but it was certainly the most exciting. As for spells beginning with Re? “Repello?” she asked. Recollection of spells weren’t exactly her forte.

Her fellow dormie arrived late too and was looking about as lost as Aurora was. “Hope!” She beckoned her over. “Why don’t you come join us? That’s okay right Desiree?” She wasn’t really asking permission but it was the polite thing to ask, right?

Despite her focus being, for the most part, on the lesson, Sloane also kept a close, shrewd eye on Etta. Not one to really consider many people around her ‘friends’, mainly due to her not really being close to anyone outside her family, Sloane was still testing the waters when it came to those around her. What constituted a friendship? How much did one have to talk to someone? Does one need to water a friendship like a plant? She had so many questions and no one to really ask. Well, except maybe Mika but he’d never really mentioned friends so how useful would he really be? With this in mind, she watched Etta closely from the corner of her eye. She’d caught the sigh of relief when she’d sat down as well as the look of relief when Florence sat down and nodded a little. She was good at reading people so she could also tell that Etta struggled with confidence. She just…didn’t know how to make her feel better. Waiting until Etta had done a little of the activity, Sloane leaned over to see her work and then, slightly awkwardly, patted her on the shoulder. “Good job Etta. I..uhh..think that’s a really cool spell to invent!”. She quickly turned away back to the Professor, not wanting to seem rude and also….awkward!

As for her work…She listened to the professor intently, only giving the smallest of nods at the praise she received for her observation, choosing instead to listen to her input on the spell itself. Her question did somewhat catch Sloane off guard. Not the most creative of people, she wasn’t actually sure what she wanted her spell to actually do if she used the root Alohamora as the base for it. “I’m not really sure Professor. I guess, open and close and all of that ‘friendly to criminals’ stuff is kind of limiting.” She wasn’t sure if she was being clear or not but she couldn’t explain it in any other way. After pausing for a second however, she started to flick through one of the latin books until she came to the world ‘inimicus’ which translated to ‘enemy’. “I know there are spells to reveal people Professor I guess it’s a bit pointless but, could I use the word ‘inimicus’ along with the word ‘Mora’? It could be some kind of spell to remove an enemy….somehow…” She wasn’t sure if that made sense but it was the best that she was getting from this Slytherin.

Was Professor Liu smiling at him? He smiled right back.

“One huge tree it is,’’ he said happily, quite enjoying the way they were planning. He was also quite enjoying the activity overall. Who knew that Charms could have been this fun and interesting? Would one of them want to start drawing with the papers and the coloured pencils or did he have to do everything himself? “Expecto Patronum is a good one but does it tie into our theme? ‘Ex’ means out, which ties in Expelliaramus and Expulso. Disarming someone could refer to dislodging their wand out of their hand. Expulso means expelling something.” Ary was all ears if anyone from the group could convince him about the Patronus Charm. Those books the Professor was willing to lend them should help with the research.

“What’s the incantation for that again?” the firstie asked Bry, since he literally could not remember it. And if the incantation had the roots they were looking for, it would be on the list.

Also, all this talking was making Ary quite tired.

All righty they were doing the big tree since everyone seemed to be onboard with that idea. "I can start on the tree drawing if you three want to keep figuring out the spells we're incorporating into the picture as well as other elements like creatures, and so on? Or does everyone want to draw a piece of the tree? Like one person does the lower part of the trunk, one does leaves, one does branches and one does the tree's body?" Emmie suggested to Roman, Ary and Bry as she got the papers, and a muggle drawing pencil to start on a outline for how the tree was going to look.

They'd need a big tree that spanned over at least four parchments or it'd just look weird she thought to herself as she began with drawing the big tree trunk. Should they go for a traditional looking tree or could it look like one of those she had read about in her school textbooks?

Bryony smiled brightly at Aryan and Emmie, her blonde her falling all into her face as she nodded her head quickly in agreement to all of the things being said. "I'm not the best at drawing so I don't mind not doing that.. unless it's something easy. Otherwise we're going to end up with stick line drawings," the first year snakette giggled. She had no issues with helping out though if it was needed.

Erm.. Bry tilted her head ever-so-slightly, nibbling at her bottom lip for moment. "I uhh-.. well I don't actually remember it off the top of my head but I can try to look it up for us." And if looking up the incantation did no good, she would do the very next best thing and ask the Professor what it was. With that being said though, she pulled out her charms textbook and began to look through it even as she continued to speak.

Yessss! Expecto patronum fits in perfectly, Ary! Was he ready? Expecto patronum is casting a guardian form to protect us. Mama told me that it means I expect a guardian or I'm awaiting a guardian. HOWEVER.." this is where she paused and smiled sweetly at Ary, Emmie and Roman. "That guardian you're waiting for is being sent out by you, the caster. So 'ex' means 'out' and we're sending 'OUT' a guardian by using the charm then it counts." It counts. No one was going to change her mind about that. They were all very very welcome.

And if Ary needed a little pick me up, he was welcome to have another nibble of her brownie.

Roman was quite proud of his group right now. They were discussing politely, having good thoughts, and actually thinking things through. Aryan was wrong about Expecto Patronum, though, and Roman was about to say so when Bryony spoke up, and Roman nodded. "Right, and -patri is also a root, too. So if anyone has that root, they could connect it to ours," he said with a nod. "We should go start painting." Roman wasn't an artist, but his handwriting was impeccably neat, something he prided himself on. He thought it would be the same with painting spells, no? Someone else could draw the trees. Out of Aryan, Bryony, and Emmeline, one of them had to be able to draw a tree and branches, right?

"I agree with Bryony, for the record," he muttered to them all. "I can't remember. Does the root go on the trunk, or does the root contain the spell, and the branches are all the roots that all connect the trunks together, which are the spells?" he asked his group, but he spoke loudly enough for the Professor Liu to hear, too, in case she wanted to chime in.

"And I also want to draw the letters." That was that. No argument. Roman had said it firmly enough.

Ary was only all too happy to keep going with the brainstorming. He appreciated Emmie including everyone in the drawing of the tree but he shook his head. “I’m fine with brainstorming,” he replied with a smile. He prodded Bry in the shoulder just for the fun of it since she couldn’t remember the charm. “Neither can I. No worries though.” They had more than enough material to work with so far. He listened to the explanation, nodding his head at intervals. Yes, Ary could get behind that simple and clear explanation. And Roman chipped in too, which sealed the deal. “Thanks, Bry. Thanks, Roman. Expecto Patronum goes on the list.”

The quietest member of the group watched as Emmie and Roman sorted things out for the drawing. He really did like the civilised manner in which they were getting things done; Aryan absolutely hated conflicts and confrontation. “The root word goes where the roots of the tree should be. The trunk remains a regular ole trunk and the leaves are our spells and whatever else.” At least that’s how he remembered it from Professor Liu’s demonstration.

“You know, there’s also Excolo - the metal polishing charm. ‘Ex’ could refer to bringing out the shine in an object.” What did the rest of the group think?

Desiree glanced at Aurora, wondering how the younger girl might react to her candy tree idea. For one fleeting moment, she worried she’d have to scrap it and start all over! But that didn’t happen. “Thanks!” she replied, beaming at Aurora’s praise. A minute later, it was her turn to offer praise for the younger girl’s candy wrapper idea. “Ooh, great idea! That would look so nice and colorful! Do you have any sweets wrappers left?” She scooted her own small pile of discarded wrappers toward the middle of the table for later use.

As the subject turned to spells, Desiree nodded at Aurora’s suggestion. ”Yes,” she said, “and if Repello goes on the tree, variations of that spell can go on the tree too, like Repello Muggletum and Repello Inmicum. Would you like to draw branches on the tree for those spells?”

Before she could add her own spells to the tree, Aurora was inviting Hope to join their group. She blinked, slightly caught off guard, but she wasn’t bothered by it. She wouldn’t turn away anyone who needed a partner! “Sure, the more the merrier,” she replied. She just hoped she wouldn’t have to redo her candy tree! Her attention turned to Hope with a smile and a wave. “Hi,” she said. “Do you already have a sketch? Maybe we could combine the two if you do.”

Desiree, Aurora and the newest arrival of Ms. Archard all got a warm smile - Roulan particularly being pleased not only had the oldest being happily willing to partner with someone else, but then the young Ravenclaw also drew in her dorm mate with her so she could be in a group as well - if desired. It was always heartwarming to see the students encouraging and supporting each other. "Thank you for coming, Ms. Archard. We're glad to have you." the words were sincere, not a hint of sarcasm in sight. Tardiness wasn't legitimate for an optional activity. Eying the girls for a moment to ensure she was not needed, she gave another approving nod and moved on to the next group.

Aryan, Bryony, Emmie and Roman seemed to be doing well. They all had ideas flying and seemed not at all short on options for their tree, which could very well have ended up the largest. Seemed fitting for what seemed to be the largest collaboration. Hearing Roman's question, she went to answer but Aryan beat her to it. So she just gave a nod of approval. "That was it exactly, Mr. Atreyu-Rehman. The roots are a bit of a play on words, you see." Root of a tree, root of a word.

Roulan hoped she had not made Ms. Knott feel pressured to have a response - her question had been more if the girl already had something in mind, or even just to spur further critical thinking. Though it did not seem Sloane needed much nudging in that department. But she was certainly pleased as pie when the Slytherin did offer an idea. Considering it, Rue gave a nod. "That's a possibility! Excellent thinking, Ms. Knott! Though of course experimentation with charms dealing with enemies is always risky business, since the definition of enemy is up to the caster and you'll never know what could happen to perhaps just a friend you had a spat with that morning." She did feel it her responsibility to mention that lest any of the students have any ideas they decided to try.

Another glance around the room told her the students seemed far enough along she could pop the paint tins. With a flourish of her wand, Roulan did just that - also summoning plenty of brushes and rollers and different items that could be used for textures. "Alright, class. The wall is your canvas, do with it what you will! Please just be respectful of the groups around you and try to not paint over anything someone just did." Unless they had permission of course. "This is your space so I shall stand back and let you all take creative control. Just let me know if you have any questions or need assistance with anything."

OOC- Hi friends!! Sorry for the wait! Thank you for sticking with us so far! At this point, your kids now have creative freedom to get paint on the walls and showcase their designs! Just grab whatever supplies you'd like and have fun! You'll have until Tuesday morning, September 19th (PST) to RP the rest of the creation process and then I'll be closing this thread!

Oh, thank goodness! Hope really didn't have any artistic ideas for what she'd already done and was willing enough to fall in with what the other girls were doing (besides, a candy tree sounded fun!) Hope nodded back at Professor Liu as she moved over to join the other girls.

Hope blushed a little as she looked down at her sketch. "Well, it's more of a draft, really...but I already have those two spells you were talking about--Repello Inimicum and Repello Muggletum. See, I put them on one forked branch together, because they're related. I was doing the prefix re-, you see." Hope trailed off as she held up her (inadequate, as she thought it) sketch.

What a silly question! Did the girl with the major sweet tooth have any spare wrappers? Of course she did. She dug into her pocket where she had collected an assortment of multicoloured wrappers that had been neatly removed and therefore were still in perfect condition. “Ta da!” It might not have been enough but they could always pillage some off of the other students OR Aurora could just sacrifice her sleep by consuming even more and find herself bouncing off the walls later.

Well that was oddly convenient, Hope was doing the same prefix as they were doing. “So are we!” she giggled excitedly. “Actually Desiree came up with the idea and I just tagged along because I don’t know much about Latin.” Because obviously she was far more intelligent than Aurora could ever be but what she lacked in booksmarts she made up for in pep and enthusiasm.

She had started to draw a branch off of the tree Desiree had started when Professor Liu had made the suggestion they start with the big display on the wall. She was more than happy to decorate with the sweet wrappers but the technical side of it was a little beyond her capabilities right now. “Is that enough spells?” And can she just do all the colouring in and decorating part of it?

So she wasn't the only one that couldn't remember the charm? Well at least now she didn't have to feel silly. Like she would've anyhow. It wasn't often that anything made her feel silly. So she did the very next best thing, giggle. "That's what we're all here for. To learn, so it's okay that none of us remember that incantation." Their group had come up with other charms so there shouldn't be any trouble. To say that Bryony's smile was bright when the boys agreed with her that the Patronus charm was going to make it on the list was an understatement. She always got her way, even if it was something as simple as whether or not to use a charm in their project. "I'm glad you agree." Aryan knew what happened when anyone didn't agree with her.

Nod nod. "What he said," Bry laughed, grinning at Ary and Roman. Obviously he knew what he was talking about. He pretty much always did, just like her. "That's another really good one. Add it to the list." See, she could be a team player. No disagreeing here. Yet.

As for moving along and drawing the tree on the wall.. well.. Bry looked at the group. "I can help with the leaves if you want Emmie." That was about the extent of her drawing skills if they wanted the tree to look like a tree.

Oh, thank goodness! Hope really didn't have any artistic ideas for what she'd already done and was willing enough to fall in with what the other girls were doing (besides, a candy tree sounded fun!) Hope nodded back at Professor Liu as she moved over to join the other girls.



Hope blushed a little as she looked down at her sketch. "Well, it's more of a draft, really...but I already have those two spells you were talking about--Repello Inimicum and Repello Muggletum. See, I put them on one forked branch together, because they're related. I was doing the prefix re-, you see." Hope trailed off as she held up her (inadequate, as she thought it) sketch.

Well that was oddly convenient, Hope was doing the same prefix as they were doing. “So are we!” she giggled excitedly. “Actually Desiree came up with the idea and I just tagged along because I don’t know much about Latin.” Because obviously she was far more intelligent than Aurora could ever be but what she lacked in booksmarts she made up for in pep and enthusiasm.

She had started to draw a branch off of the tree Desiree had started when Professor Liu had made the suggestion they start with the big display on the wall. She was more than happy to decorate with the sweet wrappers but the technical side of it was a little beyond her capabilities right now. “Is that enough spells?” And can she just do all the colouring in and decorating part of it?

Desiree giggled softly as Aurora produced an array of colorful candy wrappers. She might’ve guessed that the younger girl would have them covered! “Wonderful!” she said, eyeing the collection of wrappers produced between the two of them. “These bright colors will look nice on our tree.” If there was enough time, maybe they could even fold them into leaf shapes!

So Hope had already thought of the two spells Desiree had mentioned? The older girl was impressed! “Sounds like you’re ahead of the game then,” she said with a smile. Tilting her head to one side, she examined Hope’s sketch - er, draft - to give her ideas how to incorporate it into the candy tree design. For the record, she didn’t think it was inadequate at all! “That’s a great idea, Hope!” she said. “We can put those spells on a forked branch for our tree.”

Speaking of spells, she considered whether or not they had enough. True, there was so much more they could do with the “Re” root word, but the more time they spent brainstorming meant the less time they had for painting. “I think that’s a good start,” she replied, nodding. “We can always add more spells if we have time - and maybe some magical objects too, like the Resurrection Stone and the Remembrall.”

She led the way to the wall, picking up a paintbrush and paint to work on part ot the tree’s outline.

Experimenting with spells was the whole point of this class, wasn’t it? They were going to try these spells they were making, right? Feeling as though she shouldn’t, more so because she felt like she wouldn’t like the answer, Sloane nodded and smiled innocently as she continued to add to her tree…diagram…thing. “Thank you Professor. I’ll keep that in mind,” knowing full well that she’d most likely end up trying it on a friend if she did end up trying the spell out. After all, no one really knows what a new spell does until they try it on someone.

Listening to the instructions, Sloane took her paper up to an empty space alone the wall and found some spare paint and a brush. Not really feeling the rollers for texture, Sloane briefly put up her hand to ask the Professor a quick question as she began adding her design. “Can I have a palette knife?” They were much better for building up texture and because no one else had asked for one yet. Even if she couldn’t have one now, she’d come back and use one herself when no one else was looking. The art room must surely have one.

Roulan wandered the room again, merely watching the students as they continued. She was pleased to see none of them hesltate and simply begin their displays, no matter the how developed or not their initial sketches had been. She watched them all quietly, only speaking again when Sloane addressed her. "Absolutely, Ms. Knott. You can use whatever you'd like." She levitated one towards the girl.

It was only after she'd done so that she realized the time, and how quickly they were approaching on dinner. Not wanting to be the cause for any of the students missing a meal, Roulan rapped her cane against the floor. "It seems I was too ambitious for the time we had allotted for the afternoon. It's time to get to the Great Hall for dinner. I shall keep all these supplies in my office. If anyone would like to add anything to their pieces, please feel free to stop by and pick some things up and you can come into this space anytime. Thank you all for coming and sharing your creativity." She grinned at them all before waving towards the door. "Now off you go to feed your bellies with real sustenance!"

And not just sugar like she had provided.
