Shared Employee Break Room

{Employee Break Room}

If you're a Level Four employee and in search for decent coffee or the latest office gossip, the break room is the place to be. Located just past and directly connected to the conference room, the break room provides you with...whatever you put into the fridge and cabinets there. It is essential for you to bring your own dishes - mugs, plates, water glasses, eggcups, whatever your heart desires - as the Ministry does not have the means to provide them. And there are no disposable plastic cups or the like.

To encourage interdepartmental cooperation, employees from the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, and Department of Environmental Regulation and Protection share this break room. If you have a problem with that...your Department Heads suggest you sort out your priorities. This room is for Level Four employees only so if you would rather spend your breaks with people from other departments, why don't you head on over to the new Pets 'n Plants Café?

OOC: This thread is for Level Four employees only - unless you want your character to get into trouble with the department heads.

Anyone

Lunch time, not one of his favorite times of day, but one that he found himself in the break room. Being someone that wasn't very social the break room was a bit stressful for Griffin. He liked keeping to himself with his plants and coming in here he wasn't sure who he'd end up needing to make small talk with.

Wheeling in he might have given a sigh of relief not seeing anyone in there yet. He knew because of the time of day more would be coming soon. Maybe if he hurried up and got his food out of the fridge he could eat before the others came in.

Eureka entered the room huffing and puffing inwardly. It was the general atmosphere that bothered her in the ministry nowadays, although their department was much better than others she bet. They had little political influence and involvement to face what other departments would. That was a blessing.

She used her wand quickly to fetch her stored sandwich and heat it a little before sitting down to have a quick lunch break.

Natalie had spent a lot of time training and learning about her new job, but she still had a constant thought in the back of her mind eeeeever since the Orientation. Eureka. She was the girl that had been cozied up to Cox at the Orientation party thingy, and she was just DYING to know who she was and how long they'd been a ~thing~. And then the girl ended up being in the same department as her? How could she NOT follow her into the break room when she finally got the chance???

Entering the room nonchalantly, Natalie headed for her own lunch stash - also a sandwich, since she wasn't too great at cooking.

"Oh, hi," she said to Eureka, giving her a smile as she grabbed her lunch. "Eureka, right?" Obviously, Natalie KNEW that was her name, but she didn't want to come across as... creepy. Was she being creepy? Possibly.

Possibly one of the busiest employees on Level Four, Carson was surprised to find himself with nothing to do in the middle of the day. Errands were run, drinks were served and owls were answered. He had plenty of other duties to carry out later in the day, but it looked like he could take a break for now.

Entering the employee break room, he headed straight for a table and sat down, not finding the need to open the fridge or cabinet. He never brought food to work, since his family often did not have enough to eat at home. More so now that his younger sister was back from Hogwarts - he was very glad to see her safe and sound again, and wanted to buy her new school supplies with the income from his fancy new job. Flipping through his planner to review Aurora's schedule, he slowly felt his eyelids droop. He was ... a bit sleepy. Could he lay his head on the table, just for a little while? He wouldn't fall asleep, promise! He would never ... fall asleep ... at work ... zzz.

Natalie was not being creepy yet. Not in Eureka's eyes which have not caught her follow her into the break room until Nat actually walked in. "Hey," Eureka had her legs crossed as she sat on her chair, the half-wrapped sandwich now between her fingers. "Yes, Natalie." She also knew the girl's name from meetings and such. Although they had never talked together or hung out. In fact, aside from the head of department and Sachin, Eureka had a non-existing social network within the ministry. Was this good or bad? Or was this the side effect of having your nose buried in research all the time at work..?

"Please feel free to join me," on this side of the table. Eureka shifted in her seat to allow more space for Nat. "Want a pickle?" She grinned gesturing at her Tupperware by the fridge.

With the last owl answered, for the time being and with no meeting for another 30 minutes or so Aurora decided to take a much needed break. She yearned to stretch her legs, get out of her office and talk to someone about something other than the zouwou case of a headache that she’d been dealing with for the better part of the day.

Entering the breakroom, Aurora was about to head straight for the cabinets to get a banana to snack on, when her eyes landed on her assistant. Her eyes grew wide with surprise as she realized that Carson was in fact sleeping at work with his head on the table. Had she been working him so hard? "Carson!" Aurora called out loudly. "Carson, wake up!" she called out again with emphasis on each syllable in Carson’s name. It wouldn’t do for him to be sleeping in the breakroom, in the middle of the day when he should be working. It wasn’t right.

Oh, she knew her name. That was nice. Natalie liked to be known. She smiled at Eureka again when she offered to have her sit with her for lunch. "Well thank you," she said genuinely, bringing her lunch container over to the table.

She sat down across from the girl as she offered her a pickle. She didn't know why, but it surprised her. No one had ever offered her a pickle before. "Sure," she said, after considering the question for a moment. Then she retrieved a pickle to eat with her lunch.

This was off to a great start.

She crunched into a bite of pickle, crossing her legs under the table as well. "How long have you worked here?" she asked. It was Natalie's first year at the Ministry, so she had no idea how long any of her coworkers had been there.

Eureka bit into her sandwich, her smiling hidden behind the big piece of messy bread- messy because it had cucumber, lettuce, tomato and onions poking from every side. Her pickles were the best, they were homemade and homegrown. Most of her vegetables and food were homegrown, actually. It was something therapeutic she picked up in the past few years.

"Hmm, I've worked here for quite a while now. It was broken into two phases, though. I first worked here for two years as a ranger then moved to Oslo for a higher education, stayed there for four years, and now I'm back as a researcher." She narrated, playing with her veggies and trying to stuff them inside the two loaves of bread. "I've been here as a researcher for, I guess, three years."

Taking another bite, a small one, she reflected. "What about you?" Most likely Natalie was a newbie, Eureka hadn't seen her much before. Although this wasn't a fair judgement since Eurie keeps to her desk a lot.

He was not sleeping too deeply, but had a vague nightmare - afternoon mare? - about a zouwu. Specifically, the zouwu that had been giving the department some trouble lately. Mumbling something under his breath, presumably in an attempt to calm the creature down in his dream, Carson heard a familiar voice call his name from a distance. Was that Aurora, to save him from the terrifying magical beast? Oh no, wait ...

Jolting awake, the young employee immediately realised that he was caught sleeping at work, by none other than Ms Aurora Bagnold herself. He stood up at breakneck speed to face his boss, no longer feeling sleepy. "Ms Bagnold! I'm sorry, I hadn't intended to take a nap here ... I have no excuse." He hung his head in shame.

Why was Carson sleeping in the breakroom? There were countless possibilities where Aurora didn't want to imagine some of them, but still it needed answered. Why was her personal assistant sleeping in the middle of the day? And not to mention talking in his sleep too, which sounded to Aurora's ears like he was trying sooth down an unindentifed angry magical creature. Had this european tour to retrieve dragons from other countries put a strain on Carson's sleeping habits?

When Carson jolted awake Aurora quickly took a few steps backwards and to the side to not accidentally get knocked into. It was better to be safe than sorry. Crossing her arms, she just looked at him as Carson apologized for his action. Waving the apology away with a dismissive hand Aurora asked. "I'm more interested in why you needed to take nap? Are you not sleeping well at home?" Was she exhausting him with all the extra tasks off late, perhaps?

No, the dragons retrieval operation was not why Carson was exhausted. He only helped with making travel arrangements across Europe, running errands, and other small support duties. It was Aurora who should feel tired from working non-stop to retrieve the dragons. Honestly, she deserved to be on a chocolate frog card for leading the operation so well. Any extra work she assigned him was not unreasonable.

When she asked why he needed to take a nap in the break room, he took a moment to consider how to reply, still looking down at his feet. It was probably best to tell her the truth. He felt that she would not be judgemental, and perhaps even give him some advice. "Um, the thing is, I'm doing some extra Apparition practice outside of work. I'd like to get a side job as an Uber Apparator when I turn nineteen." Which was in less than a month's time. "I have not been getting enough sleep because of that. But I should not have let that affect my work here ... sorry."

Aurora was going to be glad when all the dragons were back where theybelonged. Focusing her full attention on Carson, she waited patiently for an honest answer from him. If the dragon mission was responsible for his lack of sleep then she needed to be made aware. What she didn't know, she couldn't do anything about, was Aurora's thinking.

She was about to start making a task list in her head of things still left to do when Carson finally spoke up and baffled her. He wanted to be a what? Furrowing her browns in slight confusion Aurora asked "I get that you want to get your apparition license all younglings do, but Uber Apparator what's that? You run errands for people on your days off from work?" Or had she misunderstood?
